Walking slowly with his Ponyta beside him, Joseph thought about his actions. Team Death had attacked the Cresselia Cup, and he’d almost lost Spirit. He should have been there. He should have been with her to comfort her and to keep her safe, but what now? Spirit had changed. She refused to let him on her back like they used to, and whenever he tried to stroke her and assure her, the flames on her back would flare up and eat away at his skin. He’d lost her trust. Of course he understood why. He hated himself for it. Her hooves crushed the earth beneath her as she walked, her haunches rocking from side to side, her ears flat. Usually she would be playful and caring, but right now she was shaken and nervous, almost dejected. Normally he would be about the Gym in Electric City. They’d already crossed through Route One, but right now, Spirit needed time to relax and to clear her mind. He didn’t want to push her right now, because he cared about Spirit, and he wasn’t going to hurt her. Ponyta’s keen, curved, pointed ears were flat; her eyes almost blank pools of ink as she weaved around a tree and back onto the path beside Mawely. How could Mawely just leave her like that? He said he’d come back for her, but he hadn’t been there when she’d needed him. Did he even care about her? Why hadn’t he come back? She’d been so scared, almost in frenzy when it had all happened. She shook her head and snorted, the flames atop her head dimming down as they reached a spot where branches hung down on the gravel path. Unwilling to go any more, she simply bent her forelegs and let herself fall easy onto a soft carpet of leaves. Just behind her, Mawely paused and sat down a short distance away, not daring to question her. Did that mean that he was giving her the space and respect that she deserved, or did that mean he didn’t care? In the corner of her eye, she could see the man pull out a Pokéball and almost stare at it, as if it were somehow out of the ordinary – as if it were strangely intensely interesting. Spirit never went in a Pokéball. She hated it, and she always had. “You abandoned me,” Spirit murmured to herself, referring to Joseph. She knew that he couldn’t understand Pokéspeech, but it filled the void of silence that, at that point in time, she couldn’t bear to listen to. “I don’t understand why you weren’t there...” Her words came out as soft, depressed, quiet whinnies that sounded more like miserable sighs. “I trusted you...”Clearly the Ponyta was hurt. Not physically, but emotionally, and it would take time for her to understand. At the moment, she didn’t want to hear excuses. “You’ll need time,” Joseph said softly. Spirit glanced up at him, but he didn’t meet her gaze. Did he hate her that much that he didn’t want to even look at her? Wait; was that shame in his eyes...? “Take as much time as you want. I’ll wait.” Sudden anger surged up in Spirit and she snorted loudly, hoisting herself from the ground and racing off into the forest, away from him. Watching her go, he summoned Minerva from her Pokéball and ordered her to go after the Ponyta and make sure she was alright. Spirit | 15 | Female Minerva | 10 | Female

What was the point in being careful while walking down the calm forest path when everything you did turned out great? The small Rattata was wondering that exact thing as she strolled on through, not caring where she placed her paws or how fast she decided to walk. Maybe that wasn't the best idea, but it was a smart decision in her mind. She had no clue that there was a trainer only a few meters away and that the Rattata would stroll right in front of said trainer if she kept up her pace. That usually meant capture. Would it happen against the lucky Rattata too? Or would she resist the claws of capture and have another chance to run off from the trainer? Rattata didn't even think about it because...well, she didn't even know the trainer was there.
She also didn't know that the trainer's Ponyta ran off, running right by the Rattata and knocking her over with strong legs. "Ouch! Was that really necessary?" Then she heard the voice of the trainer, ordering another Pokemon of his to follow after. The Rattata quickly ran to the site, hoping to avoid another set of feet that could trample her. Instead, she headed out to the edge of the forest to confront the trainer, keeping her eyes narrowed and glaring at the boy. "Watch where you send your Pokemon, eh?" She cursed, beginning to walk towards the bushes on the other side. And once she reached them, she turned back to the boy. "Come at me, bro." She muttered, remembering that her brother had said that to her as a taunt not too long ago. And hey, even if it insulted the trainer, she'd probably benefit from it. That's what bad asses do.the summary RATTATA APPEARED female | level 3 tackle ; tail whip a complete bad ass. everything seems to go her way. but she's cocky and often takes advantage of this luck and bad assery to benefit her.

Casting a worried glance over to where Spirit had sped away, he returned to fiddling with a Pokéball and nibbled on the inside of his lip with discontent. How long would it take before Spirit trusted him again? How long before he would be forgiven? It wasn’t exactly his fault, because he’d been busy at the time of the attack gathering intelligence about the Cheyenne Region. When he’d heard of the problem, a long time too late, he’d rushed back to the Daycare. But by that time, it had been too late. She’d been curled up in a corner, shivering as though something bad had happened, her mane blazing uncontrollably. He’d tried to get close to her, but she’d only pushed him away, looking at him as though everything was his fault. In a way, he understood – he’d left her there with the promise he’d be back soon. It had been a very long time, and she obviously felt betrayed and hurt by his actions. Before he could think of any ways to apologise to her, a Rattata stalked over, looking quite unhappy, from the direction of where Spirit had gone. Had the Ponyta done something to upset the creature, he wondered, but thought against it. Spirit wouldn’t do anything to hurt anyone – not intentionally, at least. The Rattata must’ve just had a bad day or something, or was particularly feisty and looking for a fight. But the Rattata took up a fighting position a short distance away, dropping into a stance that he recognised as one thing only: battle. It wanted to battle him? Standing up and pulling the bag over his shoulder, he clicked the middle button of the Pokéball and released a Buizel onto the field, who looked at the Rattata curiously before tipping the front of his Stetson hat down in a gesture of greeting. “Right, seems like you need cooling down,” he noted with a warm smile. “Since you’ve been so patient, I think it’d only be polite if I let you have the first move.” ::Buizel:: Jack Jessee | 7.5 | Male Sent to battle Rattata. Sure she got what she wanted when a pokemon was released to battle her, but the pokemon wasn't taunted and allowed her for the first move. It wasn't bad ass to go first, it was always bad ass to win from a handicap or defensive position, not the aggressive one.
>I'll have to refuse. You move first!< She said again in her battle position. She then began to wag her tail in front of the Buizel, trying to tease it a bit so it would angrily go after her and do something stupid that she could easily counter and use to her advantage. The only issue was, although she didn't intend it she actually made the first move as the tail wag was an attack sent to the Buizel. One that would lower it's defenses if it connected...

The Rattata declined his offer to move first, and Buizel tipped his hat back to get a better view of his surroundings. A few trees and bushes, he noticed, and the footpath was made of stone, sand and grit. Nothing to slip on, unfortunately, save a few flat rocks that flanked the footpath. His nose twitched and he dropped onto all four paws, his two tails streaming out for balance behind him. The Rattata began to wag her tail, but unfortunately the Buizel wasn’t focused on the hypnotising motion it provided. Normally, Tail Whip lowered a Pokémon’s defence, and while she seemed to be trying to provoke him, the Buizel was a very patient Pokémon. He was staring straight ahead, above the Rattata, at a tree. That was a good position to attack from, he noted, and smirked at the Rattata almost in a friendly way. He didn’t want to hurt the Pokémon too badly, but some Pokémon could be stubborn and refuse to back down. For some reason, whether it was true or not, he seemed to get the sense that his opponent was one of those Pokémon. Keeping his surroundings in mind, Buizel closed his eyes and let his maw fall open slightly. A trail of water hovered around him, almost as if it were being controlled mentally, and slowly it formed a blue ring that occasionally brushed against his fur. If he could keep his health up using Aqua Ring, he shouldn’t have too much of a problem fighting the Rattata, even if it did look a bit weaker than him. “Your turn,” he observed, his tail tips twitching back and forth with anticipation. What would the Rattata do now? Jack Jessee | 7.5 | Male Wasn't paying attention to Tail Whip! Used Aqua Ring! Spirit | 15 | Female Minerva | 10 | Female

She was still left to make the first move and this upset her greatly as she really hoped that the Buizel would do it instead so she could come back as an underdog and show her badass ways.
But badassness had to take a seat here as it was her move to strike. She was going to play the aggressor and be the most badass aggressor she can be. Jumping up in the air, she began to wag her tail violently at the Buizel in hopes of lowering his defenses this time as he could not avoid it twice in a row. She also chose to stomp her tail hard onto the Buizel while she was done wagging. It wouldn't hurt as much as a regular pokemon attack but it hopefully would throw the Buizel off guard and give her an early and badass advantage in the battle.
>Now it's your move!< She taunted.

Since the Rattata seemed weaker than him, Jack allowed it to strike him once just for the satisfaction she might get. He felt a tail slap against his cheek, but he held his stance, barely moving from the impact. It seemed as though that move wasn’t intended to cause as much damage as usual, but he still felt as though he should go easy on it. Relaxing his shoulders and lowering his defence ever so slightly, he dropped into a crouch and prowled forwards. A soft, calm growl rumbled in his throat as he stalked over the earth, and he lifted his tails in preparation. It made him look as though he were going to use Sonic Boom – a move that some believed to be a Buizel’s signature attack. But without batting an eyelid, his chest puffed out and he spat a stream of water at the Normal type. Mawely watched on curiously and he wondered how he was going to get back to Electric City. His thoughts were halted when he heard a barely suppressed whimper from behind him, and turned to find a pink Shellos watching the battle from within a bush. “Are you alright?” He approached the Pokémon carefully and knelt down, parting the bushes with a hand. The Shellos was injured, he realised straight away, and it shrunk away from him timidly. “It’s okay,” he purred, reaching forward slowly with one hand and picking it up gently. The Shellos shrunk down in his hand and trembled. The injuries had been inflicted by humans, so to be held by one again was almost making her anxious. “I won’t hurt you,” the man’s voice purred above her, and she looked up to see a warm smile gracing his dark skin. She had to admit that the man didn’t look like he would hurt her... Tears started to slide down her cheeks and she snuggled into the palm of his hand as the battle continued a short distance away. A glint on her shell, and the way she seemed to stiffen, told the Trainer that the Pokémon had used Harden. Probably to protect herself, which meant she was probably scared. He wrapped her up in his vest and held her close. If he hadn’t sent Minerva after Spirit, he’d have asked her to tend to the little Shellos, but it seemed as though she’d have to wait. Either that or he’d have to go searching for the two prematurely. Jack Jessee | 7.5 | Male Hit by the Spinny Tail move thing. -1 Def. (-1 attack) Hit by Growl and water gun Used Tackle on buizel "Ahhhh! What the hell is this?" The rattata shouted as he was first distracted by the growl, before she was hit by the water coming from the buizel. She had a shocked look on her face when the water gun stopped, and she was horrified at what had happened to her coat. "You've ruined my coat! I spent Ages making it look perfect." the rattata moaned, using her tail and legs to smooth her coat back down, trying to make it look a bit more presentable. However, no matter what happened, the coat was not the same as it was before. Getting up, the rattata had a fiery look in her eyes now. " You're going to pay for that!" she screamed, before charging at the buizel with all the power she could muster. The water type would pay for what had happened to her precious coat. Oh it would pay all right.

Buizel did feel a bit guilty when the Rattata complained about her coat being messed up, but in actual fact it didn’t look too bad. It would only have become dirty again anyway – well they were in a forest, right? “Nonsense,” he purred silkily, “You look beautiful. Honestly.” But the Rattata was already charging towards him. Behind him, he could see Mawely holding something pink, and he turned his head just so, so he could get a better glimpse of what it was he was holding. ‘A Shellos?’ Buizel blinked in surprise. He didn’t think that Shellos lived this far from the river – or even on Route One, for that matter. He knew Shellos were resilient Pokemon, but that they preferred beaches to forests. The Rattata was making a beeline for him. Lowering his chest to touch the ground, he leapt into the air and out of the way just as the Rattata converged on where he had been a moment ago. Without hesitation, he flipped forward and swung his two tails down, unleashing a single beam of energy that screeched down at the rat. It sounded like the squeal of a firework as it flew down, and he put enough energy into it to make sure it exploded once it struck something solid. Hopefully it wouldn’t do too much damage to the Rattata. He didn’t want to harm her too severely if he could help it. Unfortunately he wasn’t in a position to do anything else, so it was back to the Normal Type’s turn. As the shockwave hurtled down towards the rat, Jack flipped forward again and rolled in mid-air, using his two tails for balance. Though he was no cat, he could still land on his feet, so when his soft paws impacted with a tree, he kicked himself off and flipped back onto the floor on all four paws, his tails streaming out coolly behind him. ‘I hope the Rattata doesn’t think I’m showing off,’ Jack took the time to lick his forepaw free of dust and draw it over his face to smoothen down the fur. Pokemon encounter ! Even though the rodent was badass, she was definitely not good enough to fight against a pokemon 4 levels above her. And yet her superior luck came through for her this time, allowing her to smoothly dodge the incoming Sonicboom like a pro. <Thanks for noticing.> The rat replied to the Buizel's compliment, giving him a haughty look.
Grinning devilishly, the rat then dug her claws into the ground and sprang forward, intending to knock the Buizel off his toes. Her Tackle attack was simple, but effective in subduing her opponents. ::rattata:: -1 ATK female | level 3 tackle ; tail whip a complete bad ass. everything seems to go her way. but she's cocky and often takes advantage of this luck and bad assery to benefit her. Jack Jessee felt a twinge of discontent when he saw his Sonic Boom had missed, but decided not to dwell on it. He did notice that the Rattata looked quite proud of her appearance, though the Buizel felt as though the Rattata was somewhat arrogant. Though she did have manners, which was always a good thing, he wondered what exactly she hoped to gain from the battle. Jessee had realised from the first Tackle that had hit that she didn’t seem to be as strong as he was, and there were sure to be a few level differences there. He didn’t think he’d gain anything from the battle, and wondered if he should call it off, just in case he did hurt the normal type. But he knew that if the Rattata was proud of her fur, she’d also be proud of her battling skills. ‘The last thing I want to do is insult her ability to fight,’ he realised, ‘I guess I’ll just have to wait out this battle and hope for the best.’ His thoughts distracted him, and the Rattata was already upon him. There was no time to dodge, so instead he rolled forward and lifted a paw to block. A bit of pain lanced through him as the attack connected. While the Rattata was at a lower level, she wasn’t altogether a Pokémon that couldn’t cause some damage. Still, it didn’t feel as though he had any damage that would cause impairment or further injury, so he tightened his paw to protect it and growled, spitting out another jet of water at the Rattata. Meanwhile, at a different part of the forest, Spirit was gazing down at the forest floor, her ears flat and head hung low. “You can’t hide from him,” Minerva said softly, stroking the mare’s broad shoulder, “He does care about you, Spirit. He just didn’t know that you were in danger.” Spirit sighed, not really sure what to think, and tilted her head up towards the sky. “Come now, my dear, has he done anything to harm you in the years you’ve known him?”Spirit shook her head. “No,” she replied dismally, her forelock lapping hungrily at the shadows around her. “But he’s ignoring me,” she challenged, her eyes darkening. Minerva didn’t seem disturbed. “He’s giving you space, my dear,” she corrected gently, her voice soft and warm. “You know him better than I do. What does he do when he upsets someone?” Spirit blinked, and sighed, her ears flicking away some dust. Minerva was right. He must be giving her space, and respecting her as he would a human. Even so, she’d still need time to recover. She’d been so frightened... The sound of a distant explosion rocked her ears and she shivered. “Sounds like a battle,” Minerva said worriedly, her purple paws falling to rest on her stomach. Her eyes glittered with concern. “I hope everyone’s alright...”“Let’s go,” Spirit whinnied, nudging Minerva to sit on her back like a rider. She trusted Minerva - the shiny Audino was so kind and soft-spoken that it was hard for any Pokemon not to like her. The mare's eyes slanted down in anger. “They might need help...” Jack Jessee | 7.5 | Male -1 Def. Blocked Tackle, but still took the damage. Used Growl and Water Gun!

Shellos seemed to be quite a timid creature. As it wriggled in his grasp, Mawely turned back to the battle and watched as Jack side-stepped and crouched down to meet the Tackle head-on. The relaxed Pokémon seemed to be staying calm, and Mawely admired that about the Buizel. Casual, smooth movements met the seemingly agitated ones of the Rattata, and the Shellos stared out as the water otter spun on his forepaws, away from the coming attack. Shellos eyed the magnificent display with awe and lowered her head, her heart tightening in her chest. Such sleek, orange fur and cool demeanour... As the sun’s rays struck the Water type’s back, his fur shone like fire. A blush spread out over her cheeks and she wondered if the otter would dare to notice her, and she felt fire warm her belly. Puffing out her chest, she made herself look as brave as she could, and her effort was rewarded when his Stetson hat tipped up over his eyes to reveal his compassionate deep brown irises gazing briefly at her curiously. Shyly, she shivered and looked away, resting her chin against her collar bone – if she had one, that is. ‘H- He noticed me!’ She thought excitedly, ‘Wow... I wonder if he’ll talk to me when he’s finished the battle... Oh no!’“Look out!” She shouted, and Jack’s muzzle wrinkled slightly as the Rattata surged down toward him like a tide. As he turned, his tails started to glisten with white specks, and then pulsed with energy as he slapped his tails out against the purple rat’s face. He might have avoided a tackle, he wasn’t sure, but he was feeling as though he’d barely lost any strength. Spirit galloped through the trees just as the tails loomed towards the Rattata’s cheek and she edged back towards Mawely, attention split between her and the battle. What would happen next...? Awesome, the move had connected! But still, Jack, having heard the Rattata’s squeal, felt that he should have put a little less power into it. Had he gotten caught up in the battle? No, perhaps it was the instinct to protect himself that kicked in at that moment. The move had been a legit one, at least to him it seemed, so all was fair, though maybe he should have given the Rattata more of an opportunity to dodge if she wanted to. From the forest came Ponyta, who raced over to Mawely with the Shellos in his arms and head-butted him angrily, her nose flared in an angry snort. Why was she angry? Perhaps he’d been reckless; perhaps she was angry with him for not chasing after her or for getting into a battle. Or maybe she was angry with herself for having left at such a time, but she still couldn’t understand why. Why did she still care? Her eyes softened as she saw the Shellos in his arms, and she nosed the timid creature gently in greeting. Perhaps he had been helping this Pokémon? She felt a paw on her shoulder and flicked her ear back to sense that Jack had politely hitched a ride on her for a moment, and was eyeing the Shellos with interest. The Shellos blushed as it saw the otter and averted her eyes, causing Jack to purr in amusement. Well, he had to admit that she was cool, and she had to admit that he was cute, but not to each other, obviously. Mawely chuckled as Jack wriggled his way to sit on his arms and smiled at the Shellos, fixing the Stetson hat atop his head. “Did you like what you saw?” The Shellos blushed furiously and then hesitantly nodded, causing Jack to pat her on the head gently in comfort. “Ain’t a problem at all. Maybe you’d like to battle alongside me sometime? But first, look at you. You’re injured,” Buizel took a deep breath in and rehydrated the slug’s drying skin, which in turn lent her strength for the moment. “There we go.”“Sorry, Spirit,” Mawely, who was carrying both of the Pokémon in his strong arms, turned towards the angry mare. “I didn’t mean to upset you. Are you alright?” Spirit stomped her hoof and butted his head, softer this time, with her head and shoved him up the path, indicating that they should get going before he got himself into further trouble. Minerva observed with gently amused eyes, her lips curled up into a smile. Her ears twitched and she gasped, jumping from Spirit’s back and charging out into the forest urgently. The group, surprised, pursued her until they reached a clearing, where they all stared on in shock. There was a small group of Pokémon, Pokeballs included, unconscious on the ground, as if they’d been beaten pretty badly. Three were barely conscious; a Houndour, Croagunk and a Dratini, who tried to move, but ended up cringing in pain as a consequence. Minerva raced over to the Houndour and knelt down, her eyes urgent. “What happened?”The Houndour growled, but replied, “We were beaten.” Suddenly the Croagunk snickered, as if enjoying the whole ordeal, his shadowy aura repressed. “Shut up, Kai!”“Eh, that was fun,” he grinned cheekily, “But this isn’t... Where’d Merrick go anyway, Raika?”“Whatever it was chased him off into the forest. I should have protected him!” Raika snarled, disgusted with herself. Mawely crouched down beside the Dratini. He was hurt badly, but not too bad. He gathered up their Pokeballs and recalled them all and transferred them to his PC. They’d have to search for the Trainer. Spirit whinnied urgently and stood beside him, and Mawely hesitated before mounting the Ponyta, recalling Jack and darting out with his Pokémon into the forest... <LIFE IS A LIE.> A loud screech from a cardboard box resting in the middle of a clearing scared off a bunch of nearby Pokemon. As they ran terrified into the shrubbery, a Patrat emerged and started thrashing about as if she was in pain. As she cried and screamed, her tail twitched constantly as a warning to those that got near her.
She started to claw furiously at her neck, trying to end the pain that she had suffered. Not exactly suicidal, but she enjoyed her own pain. It made her feel as if she was redeeming herself by owning up to her sins. The Patrat seemed very hostile if you got near her, but would you be able to leave her pained cries alone if you walked away?

If there was one thing that Joseph hadn’t been expecting, it was a self-mutilating Patrat screeching at the top of its lungs. Spirit skidded to a halt and reared back as the Patrat burst from the bushes, clawing at her throat. Without thinking, he tugged at Spirit’s fiery neck to back her up and reached for a Pokéball. His first priority was to stop the Patrat from harming herself without causing further injury, and he had the perfect Pokémon to assist in that task. The ball enlarged and cast a crimson beam out a few fox-lengths away from the crazy Pokémon, and Fabrioc appeared from within.
Fabrioc was a Lileep – a Fossil Pokémon that he’d recently traded for. They were very rare, and this one had a brilliant personality that he’d quickly become fond of. “Fabrioc, constrict!” The Lileep stared, somewhat surprised, at the Patrat before digging his roots into the earth. From the depths, vines shot out around the Patrat and attempted to drag it down against the earth. Fabrioc wouldn’t attempt to harm it, of course, and the move wasn’t intended to crush the Patrat – just to subdue her.
“What is the problem, Patrat?” Fabrioc inquired civilly, “You’re acting awfully strangely.”

::patrat:: Level 5|Female Run Away|Keen Eye Tackle|Leer Personality: Gentle at night. Psychotic by day. Irritated in the evening. Clawing at the vines. If the patrat did even hear the trainer speaking to her; she must of ignored him completely as she carried on trying to claw herself, before she eventually began to draw some blood to the skin. That was when she was grabbed by the Lileep's vines before being pinged onto the ground completely. She twisted and turned, trying to free her arms in order to attack herself; she had to, it was the only was to clear herself of her sins! "Get off me fool! I must cleanse myself completely before its too late!" she screeched at the Lilleep, before she began biting at the gnawing on the vines trying to free herself.

Even when pinned beneath a layer of vines the Patrat continued to claw at itself desperately. Confused, Fabrioc observed the situation, his feet clamped down in the earth to hold the vines in place. Cleanse herself? What was the Patrat thinking? Well, they couldn’t just leave it there. Mawely didn’t like the idea of knocking the Patrat out, but it didn’t seem as though much else could be done. Of course, they could let her go, but then it would harm itself. It seemed like a no win situation at the moment, and Minerva anxiously gripped Spirit’s shoulder, longing to assist the Patrat.
Her feelings were so confused and angry. Minerva could sense it from where she was, and she hopped from the mare’s back and approached Fabrioc, her blue eyes glittering with worry. Maybe she could talk to the Pokémon. Oh well, she thought, it couldn’t hurt to try. While she wasn’t sure what was going on exactly, perhaps she could win over the Patrat.
“But darling,” she said softly, her purple fur shimmering beautifully, “You are already cleansed. Why do you continue to harm yourself?”

::patrat:: Level 5|Female Run Away|Keen Eye Tackle|Leer Personality: Gentle at night. Psychotic by day. Irritated in the evening. Still Attempts to claw at itself, although has taken what has been said. "NO, I'M NOT CLEAN!" She screeched before she raked at her body again, even though she was struggling to do so because of the vines that were covering her body and keeping her pinged down. However, the purple pokemon had made a valid point; why was she harming herself? She had no reason to, apart from getting rid of her sins that were in her body. Maybe she should stop attacking herself....before she remembered that that if she stopped, then the sins would override her body. "I don't know, but I have to get rid of the sins that are in my body!" she shouted, before attempting to claw at her body again. Gosh she must be mentally ill; maybe something physical had to be done now to stop her?
