{desc=FINISHED.} The girl moved with the grace of a splashing magikarp; flopping around in search of her next destination, and causing quite a few heads to turn. Maybe this was because of her odd clothing, or maybe it was because of her thick and unruly hair - maybe, it was because of those ears she tried so hard to hide. All of these tiny things seemed to compound in to quite an eyesore for the strange people of the town, and little Freddie just wanted to get out of the street. She hustled and bustled with arms flailing, sleeves flopping around with each movement (or sliding up her long arms, bunching up at her wrists). When it was clear her movements were drawing even more attention, the little girl tried to stand stock-straight and walk like she was made of stone. A few strangers chuckled under their breath at her, which made her ears twitch, and they quickly shut up - why the hell were her ears moving like that, many would think. Freddie could feel her cheeks begin to get pink with embarrassment, so she ducked in to the first building that she could see - the lab, apparently, although she had no knowledge of how fortuitous this intrusion may be.

Professor Winter ! Winter was peacefully reading the paper at his table, sipping at a cup of hot cocoa to scare the cold away. It was rather chilly, even for an Autumn morning, and Winter was taking all the free time he could get to relax between his normal duties and helping new trainers find pokemon to start off on journeys.
But he only had about ten minutes of peace before suddenly another visitor bashed her way in through the door. Winter lowered his newspaper and peered over the top of it, adjusting his glasses with confusion when he realized that the intruder resembled more of a huge cloth, as a result of her robe that reminded him somewhat of something an eskimo would wear in winter. She looked like she was suffocating under all those clothes, and - wow was she short. Perhaps she was a young kid that got lost?
"Well well, who've we got here?" He asked with a grin, putting his mug down on his desk and standing up, straightening his coat a bit as he walked in front of her, making eye contact. "Did you want something?" He asked in a friendly way, expecting the girl to get scared and run away or something.

As the door shut behind her, Winnifred took to the window - staring out at all the people who were passing by. A few of the strangers had lingering gazes upon the door, and she watched as a few turned to one another and began making comments. Their quiet nattering was about her, and she knew this without having to hear them. It was like they had never seen a little girl before, and their attention towards her - even after her departure in to the building - made her cheeks turn a deeper shade of red. The girl was so keen on watching the strangers, she did not realize that she had just invaded a building. She did not know there was another person inside said building, until he spoke; the man's voice rising up from behind her and making her jump within her skin. Freddie turned quickly and felt her back slide up against the door, like some sort of caged animal. However, when she calmed down after her initial fright, she took a step towards him. The man looked her in the eye and said, "Did you want something?" And that left Winnifred to shrug. As her shoulders went up, the sleeves of her cloak lost their position and they fell towards the floor - almost touching it, as they were quite long.
He seemed nice enough, but Winnifred was rather skeptical, regardless. Her nervous behavior accumulated in to an initial silent treatment, where all she did was stare at him. Gradually, the morph relaxed and began observing the room she was in - it had his desk, stacks of paper, doors to other rooms, nothing out of the ordinary. Yet she found herself wondering, what is the purpose of this place? And as she thought this, the little girl began to wander. She quietly moved herself over to the man's desk (apparently forgetting her manners, and even the question he had asked), and began to skim his paperwork. None of it made sense to her, so she gave up without much care, and then turned towards him. "What is this place?" Her voice finally squeaked, sharp and concise with every syllable.

Professor Winter Winter was a bit of a nerd for this kind of things so he was super excited when the pokemon morph asked him what the lab was. It had been some years since he took over for his aunt but the excitement had never left him. He was still as ecstatic today as he was that day when Sakura decided that she wanted to retire and gave him the gig. "This place? This?" He asked, elated and trying to suppress the urge to jump up and down. "This is the laboratory! You get your first pokemon here. I am your helpful professor!" He said excitedly. "The name is Winter." He said, he was impressed she didn't run away yet. "So again. Do you want something?"

The man all but exploded with enthusiasm as soon as she asked her question; flailing about like some kind of crazy person. He moved about the room with such energy that Freddie felt compelled to back away, so she did. Moving quite slowly (because well, who knew just how crazy this man was, and what kind of crazy inhabited his brain). It was only now that she began to doubt entering the building - it had been reckless, and would have been circumvented had she payed more attention to her Grandmother's paranoia. This thought made Freddie become distracted by thoughts of her dear parental figure, and her look became cold and hard, like the ice of her home. The man would not scare her - he couldn't, not when she had to get home in one piece. So, while he explained what this place was, she listened without much interest. It wasn't until he questioned her again, when she felt like it was her turn to speak; even then, it was done with a calculated manner that was usually reserved for ancient, cranky women. "What could I ever want from you?" As she spoke, she looked around the room - careful to keep the man in her sights as well, in case he really was some kind of escaped mental patient. She looked at things that had previously escaped her attention - specifically, the door behind her. It wasn't the door she entered, and it had an "employees only" sign nearby; what was behind it? Her curiosity was piqued, but Freddie knew she should be leaving. "What's behind the door?" She asked, her voice still quite meek and nervous. For all she knew, this man was waiting for people like her to stumble upon this place, and then stash them in the back for... future use.
Shudder.
Except then she really picked up on what he said - Pokemon? He was giving away Pokemon here? Grandmother always said it was dangerous to leave the village without one, but.. They had told her to go traveling regardless, and that fact always remained rather strange to her. Why would the other people of the town need protection, while she did not? It was rare enough for Winnifred to encounter other people, and Pokemon tended to avoid her; she had never really thought about it before, but now found these questions rising in to the forefront of her mind. Okay, so this man was probably telling the truth - and her Grandmother's paranoia was useless here. The little girl tried to open the door, but found it locked; perhaps he had the key? She looked to him expectantly, as if her eyes could explain what she was up to. Freddie didn't ask for permission, which was probably another strike against her. "Wait so, you probably keep Pokemon back here? How. It looks," She tried to look in the door's pane of glass, to try and see in to the room. Despite not being able to see very far in, she could see that the room was tiny. Perhaps a storage space. "It looks so small in there. You can't fit Pokemon in there, they're huge!"

Professor Winter ! Winter was quite a bit shocked at the coldness of the little girl, feeling like she should've been as excited as he was over his own office and job. Why, everything about it was just so fabulous! Her sharp retort zipped through the air towards him like an arrow, but he didn't let it faze him. Children could be cruel, he knew. Suddenly she asked about the door. "Oh, nothing of importance. Just my stuff, and - hey, what're you doing?" He'd found himself distracted by the sound of his own voice and hadn't realized that the bundled up girl was trying to pull the door open.
He stepped closer, wondering if he would have to pry her fingers away from the locked knob, but before he could take another step she had turned and pinned her eyes on him in a curious, child-like stare. He merely stared as she began asking him the question, wondering what the heck was up with this situation. The girl was being a bit of a bother, although it didn't seem like she was doing it on purpose. "It's not, because that's the storage." He backed up towards another door, leading into a hall that housed Pokémon on either side. He liked keeping them close to the main lobby they were standing in so that he could hear if they were having some sort of trouble, hungry... or laying eggs. Yup, that made a sound. "This one leads to the pokemon." He gestured to it with an outstretched palm.
"Are you... interested in having a Pokémon? Or were you just prying?" Winter inquired, adjusting his glasses as he examined the girl. Seriously, it was seeming more and more like a prank. Those robes might as well be a costume and her hair a wig for all he knew.

The professor seemed to want her away from the door, but even as he approached, she was quick to wander off. Adults were so protective of the strangest things; doors, couches, books, closets... It was really quite peculiar. However, his attempt to ward her away was evidence enough of his protective desires. He was more interested in the door than in her, and that was good. It meant that little Freddie was safe here, and she did not have to worry so much. The man ushered her away from the storage cupboard and flailed in the direction of another door, one that she had mistaken for just a window. His mumblings about Pokemon made her all the more curious, so she adjusted her route to accommodate this newly-discovered doorway. She ducked under his flailing arms and made a bee-line for it, but her short self could not make it to the window; she could only strain to look, and still Freddie saw nothing. "I don't believe you." She squeaked, raising to her tippy-toes in an effort to prove his claims.
"Are you... interested in having a Pokémon? Or were you just prying?"
He questioned, and she plopped down to a more comfortable, proper, standing position. Her arms crossed over her chest and she looked at him with a sudden indignation, as if his words had offended her deeply. "What do I do with it?" She responded coldly, her voice exasperated in a way that only children could dramatize. "And why do you have them, aren't they wild animals? Are you hurting them?" As her mind went to this dark thought, Winnifred became even more hostile - she let her arms drop and she even approached the man, hands balled in to fists (although her sleeves quickly hid them). "Are you a bad man, or a good man? Tell me!" Adults were horrible creatures; she would never become one of them, no no no, never ever. [/blockquote]

Winter was confused. This chick was crazy. Why had she come in here demanding to see Pokémon when she didn't even want one? Did she even KNOW what a trainer was? He slid a hand to his face, shaking his head with a sigh. "Dear, this is the Lab. I research Pokémon here, and people come here to receive their start Pokémon in order to begin their journeys. These creatures are not being harmed or kept in any way. They are free to come and go as they please. In fact, they stay because they WANT to go on adventures with humans..." How annoying. Winter was about to leave, but as he turned around a squeaking noise caught him off guard.
Out of the door that he'd gestured to earlier, a small squeak could be heard. Winter turned to the sound and saw a small Horsea hopping out to say hello to the newcomer she'd heard. "Well well well, looks like you've got a fan, miss." The Horsea chirped before swimming off and away, which sure caught the Professor's interest considering there wasn't any water anywhere. One of those big mysteries.
"Some Pokemon aren't very well suited for being in the wild; I'm here to help them." He also explained with a faint smile, taking out a small Pokeball from one of the cabinets and opening it up. Upon being opened, a small Togepi appeared with a giant smile on its face, hopping and dancing around the Professor's feet.

Winnifred did not know if she could trust the man's words, especially while he took on quite an exasperated appearance. What she was asking wasn't the most difficult thing to answer; plus she saw no harm in it, but she was a child. The implications the girl forced upon the Professor could have gotten her kicked out of the building, but that seemed like a far-fetched concern. She was more interested in the well-being of the Pokemon he spoke about, than her own situation. He was flustered, and for Freddie, that only pointed towards more guilt - but she was unaccustomed to extreme emotion in people. The most that the girl had ever experienced, was the quiet and calm sadness when death took one of the elderly - a rare occurrence in her village, but still poignant. Winter's instant flurry of defensive words only further cemented Winnifred's view of him - until he turned to leave, and Freddie was tempted to block his way. As her nimble self began to chase after him, she was caught off guard - perhaps just as surprised as the adult - when a Pokemon floated out of the door.
The creature was unlike any of the beasts native to her area of Sinnoh; it was blue, and it could float, which mystified her. The little thing only stuck around for a short time, before it reversed it's course and headed back through the door - and Winnifred was eager to follow it, having forgotten all about the crazy man behind her. Just as she was moving in the direction of the Horsea, she heard a click - and then there was a flash of light. The light itself was harmless, but Freddie flinched anyways. She raised her hands to her eyes to shield them, and in the next moment, the light was gone. It had been replaced by quite an odd little creature who... Danced. It danced? That wasn't as interesting as floating but it still took her by surprise. "What is that?!" She questioned, her voice boisterous and inflating within the confined space. The Pokemon stuck to the area around Winter's feet, and Winnifred followed it; she crouched to get a better view (not that she needed to become any smaller), and sat there on the floor, eye-to-eye with the enthusiastic egg.. Thing. "It looks.. Happy." She stated a moment later, with a bit of frustration in her voice. She had just been proven very wrong - and by an adult, hrmmph! So he wasn't keeping them against their will, but he still had them, and that was suspicious, wasn't it?

Professor Winter, in da lab!
Hm? The girl seemed frustrated about something, specifically when the Togepi seemed happy and started dancing. It looked at her curiously, tilting its head with cute eyes blinking at her as it wondered what was wrong. Did it do something bad? Did it mess up? It thought it was only making people happy, how could it mess up already? It stopped dancing to walk up to her, trying to tug on her clothing with a frown, trying to make her realize how adorable it was.
"You're not the usual trainer, are you?" He finally decided, wondering what she was here for. Was she a reporter for the school's newspaper to look into the ethics of the lab? "If you want, you can leave. I'm not forcing you to stay." He offered, pointing towards the door with a motion of his hand.
If this person only came around to mess with him, he wouldn't mind escorting her out to the ranger station. Besides, he had a new stock of Pokemon in already, and this Togepi was the last of his old shipment.

"Trainer?" The girl looked away from the little egg monster, and up to the man. There was a clear look of confusion on her face, which took over from her sudden and short frustration. Just like that, the anger she had been so foolishly portraying, was gone. It wasn't that surprising, considering she was so young - and children tended to be very strange indeed. Winnifred mumbled that single word, but was quickly distracted by his sudden movement towards the door. He pointed at it, mentioning that she should leave - and that was when Winnifred felt terrible. She had accused this man of doing evil things with these Pokemon, letting her poorly socialized self turn a positive situation in to a meaningless one. He was no doubt, offended by her. To think that a simple boat ride away from Sinnoh could make her forget her manners! Winnifred fell in to herself at this point, recoiling from the man and his monster, coiling her flopping arms around herself. The excess fabric fell to her sides, and from the front, it looked like the girl wore a straight jacket. A moment passed, and all she did was look at the Pokemon in it's egg pants; when she looked up to the man, it was like all color had drained from her face. "I'm sorry." She enunciated, her tiny voice sounding rather crisp, but sad. "I didn't mean to be so rude, mister." Winnifred looked rather resigned as she turned to leave, not wishing to bother the man any further - but she paused at the door, lingering, with her arms still folded upon her chest. When she turned to look back at the little Pokemon, her ears flicked oddly; as if they wanted to flatten against her head, similarly to the way a Growlithe or other dog-type Pokemon would react to stress. "I won't bother you anymore. I'm.. I'm sorry." She muttered, and then reached for the door's handle.

Professor Winter, in da lab!
There we go, some sense was being knocked into the girl as she seemed to finally understand what was going on around here. He sighed and held his hand to his forehead, rubbing his temples to try and restrain the upcoming headache that threatened to pound on and off. What was with this girl anyways, making his day so unusual compared to the other guests that came into the lab. She admitted she was being rude and apologized, causing some relief to wash its way through his conscious. Maybe now he could get somewhere, maybe even moving on with his life.
She looked so sad though, so reluctant as she wandered towards the door. She had her hand on the handle, but she didn't leave. It was as if she was stuck in time, or having last second thoughts. Perhaps she wanted him to stop her somehow, which made her sigh. The Togepi felt bad about the entire situation, not understanding it fully, but getting that the girl had made a mistake. It was just a mistake! The Togepi hurriedly ran right up to her with a tiny squeak, asking her to stop as it tried to grab onto her shoe, not daring to let go. The Professor took notice of this and had a faint smile at the sight. So was this how it was gonna be?
"They say that Togepi are a species that bless trainers with happiness. I think it likes you." He started, encouraging her to take the Togepi if she chose. Though if the Togepi was able to like her, then maybe she'd be worthy of the other lab Pokemon he had in his possession as well. Maybe. He really didn't know, it wasn't as if he did a background check on everyone that came in.

Winnifred was taken by surprise - the added (tiny) weight of the Pokemon was enough to make her look down, seeing the creature in it's shell, so eager to make amends. It hadn't even done anything wrong! All of this was because of her, and yet the little Pokemon tried to fix the situation. The girl released the handle and crouched down, turning around as her body lowered so that she could look upon the Pokemon from (almost) it's own eye level. It sure was strange looking. "They say that Togepi are a species that bless trainers with happiness."
The man passed on quite a lot of information; things she listened to, despite showing more attention to the egg thing. Togepi, she would have to remember that. Freddie reached out to the creature and grasped one of it's hands within her finger-tips; even if they were both very small things, Freddie still managed to be bigger than it - interesting indeed. Usually everything was bigger than her. "I think it likes you." The professor finished, and Winnifred could hear the warmth in his voice. "Hello, Togepi." The little girl muttered, softly addressing the Pokemon; she even shook it's bulbous little hand, before releasing the soft grip of her finger-tips from it's skin. "My name is Winnifred. It's nice to meet you." She introduced herself, and even though she expected to feel silly for talking to a monster like this, somehow it was easier than talking to the man. Togepi made her feel more relaxed than any human that had ever graced her company - and that was saying a lot, considering her love of her Grandmother and all the elderly folk from Celestic Town. It was the first time Winnifred felt comfortable enough to let down her guard; a small smile broke through the once-stern facade upon her face. "You're.. Kinda cute."[/blockquote]

you know i can make your PROF WINTER ! Winters stood behind the little Togepi, watching as yet another fantastic partnership was born. He never felt like this job ever got old, as newer faces kept waltzing in and newer adventures would always happen. "Do you want to take the Togepi as your new poke'mon?" he asked seriously, looking at the list he had recently updated on who they were giving away. The Togepi looked up, soaking in all the words the human said. >Cuuuute?< She tested out the new word on her tongue, taking a note on how it felt saying such a foreign word. >Winnifred!< her hands went up in the air as she jumped up and down a few times. When the professor finally spoke, his deeper voice made Freddie stand up - almost like she was at attention, except for those floppy arms of her's remaining at her sides. He said something about taking the Togepi with her - more surprises, but this suggestion was met with a burst of enthusiasm. "Oh, really?! I can do that? That's.. That's what trainers do, right?" There was so much mirth in her voice as she rambled, and Winnifred could not contain her excitement; however, she tried her best, which amounted to a rather comical expression crossing her face; it was obvious she was trying to calm herself down, but it was proving to be rather difficult. While her face turned serious, Freddie's energy was too vivacious - she hopped back and forth on her toes, her mop of hair bobbing back and forth. It almost looked like she needed to pee really badly. "I, I don't know what to say!" She blurted, before looking to the Togepi.
It seemed as if things were falling in to place, although Winnifred was unaware of just how monumental her life was about to become. The Pokemon reacted by trying to speak, and when it managed to drawl out an attempt at mimicry, Winnifred's hands rose to her face in surprise. Pokemon could talk? The girl was still reeling from this realization when the Togepi burst with yet another word: her name, which again shocked her. This little egg thing was making quite an impression on the little girl, and that was probably a good thing. "Do you want to come with me?" She asked of the little creature, hoping that the answer would be yes. Although she wasn't sure where they'd be headed - having company was always nice, and she could show the Pokemon to her Grandmother later! If she... Ever made it back to Sinnoh.

you know i can make your PROF WINTER ! He still couldn't get over with how the Togepi and the girl seemed to compliment each other perfectly. He really did adore the miracle that this whole event brought. Did he mention on how he never grew tired of this? There was one reason entirely on why he got this job, and it was simply the fact to see this take place. There was nothing like the glint in a new trainer's eye; nothing like the little dance they always gave when first meeting their partner. It inspired him, motivated him, and so he had given a thanks to them. "It is exactly what trainers do." the hint of amusement was in his tone as the professor walked over to a desk, motioning for the girl to come as well. But, he payed no mind to it. "There is no need to thank me." He mumbled, fishing around in the desk, pulling out an empty poke'ball along with a bag of things. "Take these. The poke'ball belongs to the Togepi, the bag has everything you'll need to get started on your journey. Just down the street here is a little sign saying ROUTE ONE on it, I suggest you start there." With his little speech done, the professor kindly awaited for the girl to take her leave. As Winnie looked down on the Togepi, the little egg-like poke'mon couldn't help but gleefully let out a >Togepi!< at her, a wave of the little stumpy hand in the blue haired girl's general direction. When she asked if she wanted to tag along, the little poke'mon gave a little hop before nodding as quickly as she could. Of course she wanted to go with the blue haired girl on an adventure! Winnifred was overwhelmed by everything that was happening, but she was also... Strangely happy. The Pokemon seemed just as enthused by the idea of an adventure, and that only added to the girl's growing good mood. She let a faint smile sit upon her face, but it quickly grew out of control - and she was beaming at both the Togepi, and the professor. The man in question was talking, ushering her towards a desk, but she barely paid attention. That is, until he wanted to give her things. He handed her a ball, which looked peculiar, but she accepted it; he said something about the ball belonging to Togepi, so maybe it was a toy? They could play with it later. He also provided a bag for her, and it was filled with all sorts of things. Maybe when they were on this Route One, she could investigate the contents further. As she took the bag, Winnie was surprised by the weight, but she adjusted her posture quickly and threw the object on to her back. With a bit of struggle, she managed to get the sleeve of her robes through the arm strap, and they were ready to go. "I... I guess I'll be going then!" Her voice bubbled, filled with a new exuberance. While there was an underlying nervousness to the way she looked around the room, there was a new spark in her eyes; things were going to change! She wasn't going to be all alone in this strange place anymore, and Grandmother would love to meet her new Pokemon. Freddie turned to the professor and leaped upon him, launching herself at his legs in a great (and awkward) hug. "Thank you mister! I'm sorry I was being such a... Such a butt. I'll take good care of Togi." One final squeeze, and she was off again - turning for the door, bursting through it, and then waiting for the Pokemon to follow.
