Nichole looked down the dirt path that was before her. It cut a winding path through the forest, and was dotted by the occasional piece of trash or stray weed. It had only been about ten minutes since she had left the Lab, but in that time fortune had shined on her in quite an unexpected way.
Nichole walked away from the lab, the girafarig's pokeball in one hand and her Pokedex in the other. She knew where the entrance to Route One was, but she was checking the map, just to make sure. Just then, an elderly man approached her, followed by a doduo.
"Young lady", he said to her. "I see that you're a new trainer. My name's Walter, and this here is Cunaetha." He gave Nichole a kind smile, which Cunaetha mirrored.
"Hello, Walter. Cunaetha.", she replied, a little curious about why they were talking to her. Cunaetha must have noticed this, because she gave the man a quick nudge with her wing.
<Tell the girl why we're here.>, she prompted, and Walter nodded.
"You see, I'm an old man. I might not have a whole lot of years left, and I don't have any family to take care of Cuna here after I'm gone. So, I was wondering if you'd take her. She's a really good bird, so you don't have to worry about that. She'll watch out for ya, too. The best partner a trainer could ask for, I reckon.", he explained, looking at the doduo with gentle, loving eyes. Nichole felt rather uncomfortable about the situation. There was something about taking an old man's only companion that didn't sit quietly with her. Then again, this was what he wanted.
Despite her prompting, Cunaetha seemed regretful about the situation as well. She probably had quite a bit of affection for her owner, and it couldn't be easy for her, this necessary switching of ownership. Nichole took a deep breath, then nodded slowly.
"If that's really what you want, then of course I'll take her.", she said, and Walter smiled again.
"Wonderful! Here's her pokeball, then, and be sure to take good care of her!"
Nichole had long since stowed her Pokedex back in her backpack, but she was still holding both pokeballs. Would Novus (that what what she had decided to call the girafarig, though she had yet to ask him how he liked the name) like to travel out of his pokeball? Or would he be too nervous in the outside world?
With a small sigh, the girl decided to keep both her partners in their pokeballs for how. The silence was calming, and she didn't want it broken just yet. Placing both devices inside her backpack, she started to walk down the trail.

Good day good day. Yes yes it was. The weather was nice as well. The stick looking like Pokemon walked-ran through the route. What was on her list to do today? Well there was get some info on that Poochyena. Oh oh and find out who's this new Trainer. OH, and how could she forget. She had to get the news on the newest couple in town. She stumbled on the ground as she walked. How could something this skinny actually walk was beyond the laws of nature. Then again, what laws were there?
As she came on the route again she looked. Oh goodie, a new Trainer was coming her way. Clearing anything blocking her voice she stepped in front of the girl and began to speak. Fast. <Good day girl! I'm here to interview you for this group of Pokemon I'm with. Now see first I need to know your name, your Pokemon's names, what kinda Pokemon they are. Next I need to know if you're seeing anyone, and if you are are they cute? And and then I need to know how many badges they have, how many you have and what you plan to do. And I need to know where you're heading. You could be a star!> Just listening to her could give you a headache.

Well, it seemed like the silence was determined to be broken, whether Nichole's pokemon were out of their pokeballs or not. It wasn't just broken though, oh no. It was shattered into a million pieces, stomped on, and then thrown into a fire.
Nichole eyed the pokemon (it was a bellsprout, if memory served) with equal parts wariness and shock. She hadn't thought it possible for anyone to say that much at one time. Wait, was it asking her questions? Crud, there was no way that she was going to remember all of those. Why on earth did the plant want to know all of this, anyway? Once the pokemon had finally stopped her tidal wave of an interrogation, she opened her mouth to reply.
"Uh, well, my name's Nichole. My pokemon are Novus and Cunaetha. They're a girafarig and a doduo...", she trailed off. Why was she giving that chatterbox of a pokemon this information, anyway? "Is there any particular reason you need to know all of this?"

The Bellspout took a dazed step backwards. As if she was hit with a rock. A loud gasp escaped her mouth and she placed a route on her chest. <Why must I....why must I know these things?> She said, still shocked she would ask such a question. <Why, I must know everything about everyone!> She cried. <I must know every Pokemon, their name, their move set, their live style! I must know everyone that comes and goes on this route for the sake of my fans! On my blog, bellspoutlady.tumblr.com. For my fans! Or I won't be loved! I must know, I just have to know! Don't question me and answer the dang questions!> She huffed.
You could be out of breath after hearing her. The Bellsprout spoke fast and didn't take a break to even breathe. And she was not very happy about this at all. No one refused her questions, no one! And if this would be the first then she was gonna fight for her answers. That's what a reporter did, fight for their answers. And that's what she was gonna do if things got ugly.

Nichole raised a single eyebrow as the bellsprout acted utterly taken aback. Okay, she was starting to get really annoyed. The trainer had never liked gossips, having been on the receiving end of quite a few rumors, and wasn't about to be played with by this one. In fact, she had a special hatred reserved for gossipy people. She narrowed her eyes at the pokemon.
"Well, you're just going to have to find someone else to question, because I have better things to do.", she said in an uncharacteristically harsh voice, and began to walk away. Hopefully, the plant didn't follow her. It was too nice of a day to be dealing with someone like that.
Maybe it would have been better if one of her parters was out with her. That way she could have intimidated the bellsprout into leaving her alone. Oh well.
(OOC: XD D'awww. I wanted to read her blog.)

Out of nowhere, a loud cry echoed throughout the trees. As it got louder, a Taillow appeared, holding onto a terrified Sewaddle by as she flew around. <Please...Please let me go....> the Sewaddle cried out meekly to the bird pokemon. She HATED heights, but the Taillow didn't seem to care. It was especially embarrassing, as someone else is seeing her in a somewhat weak state as she's tougher than that. <Isn't it fun though?> the bird pokemon responded, totally oblivious to the Sewaddle's request to be let go. She thought the bug pokemon was way too uptight, and needed to find ways to loosen up. After all, what's not more relaxing than having the wind in your face while flying? ::Sewaddle:: Gender: Female Level: 5 Ability: Swarm/Chlorophyll Attacks: Tackle, String Shot Personality: Serious, Business-like. Nichole was thankful when the bellsprout didn't follow her. That was easier than expected, actually. With a small smile she continued on her way.
The air smelled fresh and earthy, a scent that she had grown to enjoy during her journey to Cheyenne. It always managed to calm her down, and soon she had almost forgotten about her earlier anger.
It was about 10:30, from what she could tell. An early lunch and an hour or two of writing sounded really inviting. That would give her a good opportunity to talk with her new partners, too. She wanted to get to know them a little better, before their journey progressed much further. Nichole decided to continue walking for a few minutes, then find a nice clearing to settle down in.
It was only a minute or two after that decision when a commotion above her caught the trainer's eye. A taillow was carrying what looked to be...a sewaddle? She had read very little about that species of pokemon, since it had only been discovered recently. Anyway, that didn't matter at the moment. What did was the fact that the bug didn't look happy. In fact, it seemed to be begging to be let down. Her eyes widened in realization. That taillow was going to eat it! How terrible!
"Hey, you! Would you mind dropping that sewaddle?", she shouted. Maybe there was a way to end this peacefully.

The Taillow was gliding through the sky, the air hitting her in the face. It was a beautiful day out, and she had a green worm thing in her talons below her. Yes, this day was perfect. She was teaching a very uptight pokemon how to loosen up. >Just spread your arms! It'll feel like flying!< She chirped happily, taking a nice big dip, barreling towards the ground at a quick pace, before quickly heading right back up. >Relax ~<
The Sewaddle was anything but relaxed. She didn't want to stretch out her arms to feel the wind - let alone that dropping feeling that in her stomach that made her screech when the Taillow dipped low. >P-P-Put me down! Please!< She yelped out as the Taillow then went up, and farther into the sky. Her fear of heights was escalating almost as fast as the two of them were. And when the human below mentioned dropping her. . . >NO! DON'T DROP ME!< She was on the point of panicking.
>Drop her? Why would I do that?< The Taillow asked, her curiosity peaking for a moment. Even though she was flying around with the worm pokemon in her talons, it didn't mean that she was planning on doing anything bad to the other. >Plus, wouldn't that hurt?<

Nichole felt pretty idiotic right then. The taillow apparently had no intention of eating her...um, friend? Still, the sewaddle seemed to be panicking. Why on earth would that be? If she was safe, what was all that fuss about?
"No, of course don't drop her. That was stupid of me to suggest. But I still think that your friend there doesn't seem like she's having fun.", she said, relieved that no one was in danger.
Perhaps a second (and third) brain would help in this situation. Plus, she had been talking much more that she usually did, and her voice was starting to get a little hoarse. It always seemed to do that whenever she had more that two or three conversations in a day. Reaching into her backpack, Nichole withdrew Cunaetha's pokeball, and released the bird.
<What's goin' on?>, she asked, one head looking at her trainer while the other stared at the two wild pokemon. When she noticed the sewaddle's distress, the doduo went into instant protective mother mode.
<WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU DOING!? Set that poor dear down, ya hear? Better do it fast, or you're going to find a beak in your eye!>, Cunaetha shouted, enraged at the bug's treatment.
Nichole's eyes widened in surprise. Maybe that hadn't been such a good idea.

The Taillow was only trying to show this pokemon some fun! She didn't ask to get yelled at like this, did she? Did anyone think that she deserved this 'treatment' just for trying to teach this green. . . Thing to lighten up? No. She deserved a golden medal for her good deed. >. . . I'm only trying to get her to loosen up a bit!< It was then that she halted in her flying, and hovered in the air for a moment. It was getting hard to carry this little guy around.
>Pleasepleaseplease put me down. . .< The Sewaddle whimpered, but the Taillow would have none of this. She had good intentions, sure, but the bird pokemon just couldn't take a hint - no matter how obvious the hint was. Knocking some sense into her could work, though.

If you thought that Cunaetha was angry before, then now she was downright livid. That taillow had to be dumber than a rock to think that she was actually doing the bug a favor!
<A'right, you asked for it, missy!>, Cuna said. With an angry, squawk-ish growl, the doduo crouched, and sprung into the air, hurtling towards the bird. Hopefully, the sewaddle would be injured as well.
Nichole gave a short shout of surprise when Cunaetha attacked the taillow. Couldn't this be solved without a battle? What on earth was the doduo thinking?
"Hey! H-hey Cunaetha! This is no way to settle a disagreement!", she called. Her words, of course, went unheeded.

Taillow shrugged off the growl, but the Quick Attack really hit in, forcing her to drop the Sewaddle from a decent height. <AHHHHHHHHHHHHH> she screamed, as she landed on the ground, completely shaken. She was too terrified to even move. <G-G-G-G-Guh.> she stammered, shaking horrifically. Taillow recovered her flight, and sighed. <HEY. I was just taking her for a flight. Not going to eat her.> she cried out, trying to tell her story. <I'm not gonna eat my friend!> she added, pecking at the Doduo in defense. Nichole rushed over to the terrified sewaddle, spewing apologies the entire time. This was not good. This was definitely not good! Cunaetha looked positively enraged, and there seemed to be no calming her. There was nothing she could do about the battle, but at least she could comfort the shaken bug. "I'm really sorry about this. Are you hurt? Do you need to be healed? I have some potions here if you need them.", she said concernedly. What a way to start her journey. Was it always this chaotic? Meanwhile, Cunaetha struggled to stay in the air with her tiny wings, a bump forming on her left head where the smaller bird had pecked her. She growled again, seething. <I don't care that you weren't gonna to eat her! SHE WAS TERRIFIED! Didn't you realize that?>, she demanded, and punctuated her speech with a Peck. In a state of shock
The Sewaddle opened and closed her mouth multiple of times. She tried getting the words out but they came out in deep gasps instead. She was still stunned after her flight with the Taillow she couldn't speak. The scene replayed in her mind over and over again, she couldn't stop thinking about how close to death she was. Staring blankly at nothing the Sewaddle couldn't form words.
The Taillow cringed at the Growl. Gosh darn it, when would that thing shut up! The Taillow was just as angry as the two headed bird. She waved her wing like what the bird had said was a lie. <Please! She was enjoying it, you could clearly see that.> She said, not listening to the Pokemon really. However, when the Peck hit again, she was super angry. Being attacked for no good reason, the Taillow wouldn't accept this! Her anger made her begin to focus on all of her attacks. Focusing everything she had into her power. She then lashed out at the Doduo with her beck. She wouldn't stand for these lies any longer!

Nichole felt incredibly helpless at that point. The sewaddle was practically comatose, staring at nothing with her mouth moving soundlessly. The two birds were fighting above, with no hope of being calmed down. She pulled at her hair in distress, then sat down on the ground.
"Calm down, Nichole. It's okay. Just wait for them to finish, then deal with the aftermath.", she told herself, trying to get her racing heart to slow down. After a few seconds, she stopped feeling like she was on the verge of a panic attack, and focused back on the bug. Gingerly, she picked up the poor pokemon and placed her in her lap. Hopefully the feeling of safety would be enough to calm her down. With that done, she looked back up at the arguing flying types.
Cunaetha grimaced as the Peck hit her other head. At least it was weakened from the two Growls, but it still hurt like no-one's business. She'd probably have a double headache when this was all over.
<You know, I can't stand oblivious pokemon. It's hard to live in a world where people are this stupid.>, she told her opponent resentfully, then flew forward in a Quick Attack.

The Sewaddle continued to breathe in and out, still trying to loosen her mind. She was on the ground, that was a start. She wasn’t in the air and that was what she wanted. Oh, how terrifying that sky was, why was she up there? Oh that’s right, her friend was being stubborn. She would have to give her an ear full after this! But her tiny little nubs for feet were still too weak to support her at all. They shook too badly for her to even roll or crawl at all. Well what could he do? He still felt like he was in flight. Literally! Poor guy.
The Tailow on the other hand, was still resisting to listen to the Doduo. Sewaddle was her friend, not that flightless pokemon. How could she boss her around and tell her that she didn’t know her own friend!? How shameless, this pokemon would need to be shown her place! <Let’s see how you like this, you! Don’t you go saying I’m stupid!> The Tailow lifted off the ground, flapping her wings furiously as she did. Before swooping at her opponent, she let out a cute growl in an attempt to lower the targets attack just like what happened to herself. Next up was another peck attack. If only she knew more moves, though. Tailow swooped down at the Doduo with her beak out and ready.

Nichole felt a hint of relief when the sewaddle appeared to become more aware of her surroundings. The poor thing must be scared of heights, or something, because nothing else could explain that mindless terror.
"Hi, there. You're safe now. Do you have a name?", she asked in an attempt to get the bug to focus on something besides her fear. Nichole herself wanted something to distract her from the battle above. She hadn't expected pokemon fighting to be this...violent.
Gosh, even in her head that thought sounded stupid. Of course pokemon battles were violent, what had she been expecting? The girl sighed, and brought her focus back to the sewaddle. Now was not the time for thoughts on ethics. That would have to wait until later.
Cunaetha looked down at her trainer for a second, then returned her eyes to the taillow. Now that her anger had dwindled somewhat, she could really focus on the battle. Seeing her opponent prepare for another Peck attack, she braced herself, and managed to move out of the way.
<Well, maybe if you used your brain a little more, I wouldn't have to call you stupid!>, Cunaetha spat, then rushed forward with Quick Attack.

Sewaddle was beginning to overcome her traumatic experience. She was able to steady her breathing and it seemed like she was more composed than she was before. But she didn't look up, she let her eyes drift to the safe, lovely, ground and she didn't let them leave. "Just Sewaddle." She answered, and then took a deep relaxing breath. There wasn't any need to draw out the drama. She waved off the trainer's concern like it was nothing.
Taillow tucked his wings in and performed a barrel roll. "Poor birdie can't fly and take to the skies!" He cooed and dove upwards into the air, but was hit on the way up by the quick moving poke'mon. He was knocked around and spiraled to the side. A moment was taken in order for him to build up his focus again. His body seemed to glimmer and glow as he improved his focus. Eyes locked onto Doduo and his blinking slowed down.

Nichole smiled at the sewaddle as she finally composed herself enough to speak. The fact that she didn't have a name was expected, but it was always polite to ask.
The sound of the two battling pokemon made the girl cringe. The way that it broke the natural peacefulness of the forest gave the whole situation an unnatural feel. Battles had always interested her, with their tactics and strategies, but this was completely different from what she had expected. The experience seemed much more controlled and systematic on paper than in reality.
"Are you sure you're okay? Is there anything I can do?", Nichole asked, desperate for something to take her mind off of the fighting.
Cunaetha landed back on the ground, using her small wings to slow her decent. Flying was hard work with only those things to keep her up. Taking a moment to shake out her muscles as the other bird focused herself, she then growled at the taillow. After that, she launched herself once more into a Quick Attack. She had never been one for strategy. As far as Cunaetha was concerned, the best way to battle was to beat your opponent into submission with brute strength and determination.

The sewaddle gave a small smile when the trainer asked if she needed any help. Even though she was petrified of what happened to her, she was starting to calm down now. "No im fine now, I just need to take a couple of breaths and I'll be fine." she said, with her eyes closed. When she opened them, she saw that the taillow was still around. "I think you're the one that needs help. Would you require any assistance at all?" the sewaddle asked. Meanwhile, the taillow was all pumped up from the focus energy, but when she heard the growl, she shrank back a little bit before focusing on the task ahead. However, the growl had distracted her a tiny bit, but that was enough for her to be hit by the peck attack. "Your going to pay for that." She growled at the flightless bird as she got up from the ground. Hopefully the growl would do the same to the other bird, before she swooped in for a peck attack. No one tricked her like that. A lesson was to be learned the taillow thought.
