Sunset blushed, her once rosy cheeks turning a soft indigo. As the golden orb sank down over the horizon the clouds blinked open slowly, jaws outstretched wide in a yawn. The moon quickly rose, timorous in nature, exhaling thin, misty tendrils of nightlight to chase away the day. Emerald grass trembled against the chill, hiding against the cafe.
It was fairly old in structure, but still ripe with life. It towered over him; the size of a small house, perhaps, if the room had one or two rooms. The Dragonair morph sighed heavily, staring absently into the coffee that he had purchased. It swirled slowly as he tilted the small white mug, like snow upon trees in regards to the colour contrast. The cup, porcelain like his skin, was heated as the simple, dark oak-hued liquid snuggled lazily inside. Scott lay over the table, eyes staring tiredly out into the night as he watched the moon. Virgil rested a hand on the vixen's back affectionately.
Why did things have to be so awkward? Why did he have to be so introvert? He longed to tell his travelling partner how he thought - how he felt. Every time the opportunity arose, something happened. Ruined the chance. Crashed his hopes. Made him wonder whether there really was any point in trying. So with a frustrated clench of his jaw, the overly patient Dragonair Pokemorph took a small sip of his coffee and waited.
Something ought to happen soon. Right?

l i l l i a n g r o v e s Lillian's stomach rumbled and her tongue felt dry against her gums; she'd only just reached Verona City, and she hadn't had a decent meal since she started on her journey. What she'd do for a cup of tea... well, it wouldn't be much, but still. She was thirsting, and she hadn't noticed many restaurants around here that had piqued her interest.
Then she noticed the Verona Cafe. It was well sized, cozy and quite full considering that it was around dinnertime that evening. But she was patient enough to be able to wait. She walked into the establishment, ignoring stares of other patrons who were fascinated by the ears sticking out on either side of her head. Her gaze was gentle, but mentally exhausted as she walked over to the counter, ordering a simple green tea. Moments later it was ready, she paid, tilted the slightest bit of sugar into her drink, and held the cup in both hands as she looked around for someplace to sit.
There were no tables vacant, but Virgil caught her eye. He seemed out of it enough not to be bothered if she came over. Biting her lip, she walked past quiet tables, keeping an even pace so that she didn't seem weird. Then she stopped in front of Virgil, finding his outfit somehow intimidating. "E-excuse me." Her bell of a voice rang out almost too quietly. "May I sit here?" She asked in a voice a little louder.

Virgil was deep in thought, his fingers tapping absently against the table top as he took the curious gazes of others and held them. It was unusual, he noted, to see someone dressed up in such clothing. Usually that only happened with regional or local festivities, and neither seemed to be on that day that he knew of.
Halloween ended several days ago, someone had told him. He knew that very well because he'd been at the party, maybe not enjoying himself quite so much, but he had. His cloaked tail lifted up and he took a sip of the dark liquid provided for him, aware that there was another Pokemorph in the room. He hadn't spoken to her but he'd seen her walk in and order the green tea, but he hadn't been that interested that he wanted to talk to her.
So when she approached him, the Dragonair Pokemorph glanced up calmly at her, his eyes flooding with seriousness. Virgil was generally a serious man, not caring much for banter or other games, unless it was safe or he just wanted to loosen up. Most of the time that would be with his trusty Vulpix, who looked up at the new woman curiously. Not about her ears, but just why she had thought to approach them of all people. 'Perhaps it's just the similarity in Morphism. I wouldn't want to sit next to anyone else either, really.'
Golden-green eyes drifting briefly onto the woman, Virgil placed down his cup and swung his slender tail around to slowly push back a chair. His eyes now radiated a calm joy and he smiled in an attempt to be friendly at the woman. "Please," said the Dragonair 'Morph charmingly. "I'm Virgil Tracy. "And I'm Scott," intoned the Vulpix casually, a small wolfish smile gracing his lips. "Nice to meet you."

l i l l i a n g r o v e s Lillian stared back at him, unflinching, realizing that he was using his tail to sip his tea. So he was a pokemorph too? That was probably the right guess, considering the odd color of his hair and eyes that caught her blue ones. He was a much more affected morph than she was for sure; all she had were her ears and Audino instincts. Even the Vulpix looked at her, and she began feeling a tad uncomfortable until she heard the chair across from him pushing outward. The noise caused her ears to twitch with annoyance, but it was offset by how grateful she was that he accepted her company.
She sat down in the chair and, attempting to make as little a noise as possible, scooted it back up towards the table. She hated the noise of sliding chairs, even on carpet. It was like the hoarse shriek of a boar or something. "Thank you." She replied to him with an amiable smile. She respectfully looked at them as they both introduced themselves, then introduced herself as well. "Lillian Groves." She said, her hands wrapped around the tea. She was waiting for it to cool a little so she wouldn't burn her tongue. She scanned Virgil for a moment, then looked out the window, realizing that staring would be rude. She knew how it felt to be stared at, herself.

Cautiously averting his eyes, he once more took a sip of the coffee, using his tail as his hand. Scott curled around himself, sinking his teeth against his hip as he got rid of an itch before he rolled onto his back. Craning his neck, he planted a few careful licks on his chest fur before burying his muzzle into it, sorting his pale fur back into a neater formation. The Vulpix rolled back onto his belly and washed his paws thoroughly, then drew them over his face, pulling his fur back down.
Virgil slowly blinked, staring at the drink. What was there really to say? He was so quiet... But this girl, Lillian Groves, seemed to be as well. Hidden beneath his hat, the his fluffy Dragonair ears, coated with silver down, twitched. If Lillian looked beneath his snowy hair, she wouldn’t see normal human ears, but a stretch of down reaching up from where his ears should be to merge with his actual ears.
Ignoring the stares from other people at the tables, he reached forward with his tail and used it to gently stroke Scott’s haunches. They weren’t for much affection but Scott was a fair amount more boisterous than Virgil was. Once the Vulpix stopped grooming himself, the fire type twizzled around (twizzled meaning twisted, but more fun) and snapped his teeth at Virgil’s tail. After a moment of eyeing it curiously, and being careful not to spill Lillian’s drink, the fox pounced and ‘attacked’ it.
Virgil lifted his tail, his eyes mildly amused, as Scott clung to his extra limb. Virgil offered a smile at Lillian, and then blinked thoughtfully. Moments later, not even daring to move his hands, he stuck his tail into his bag and pulled out a Pokéball, releasing a Pokémon out onto the ground. Hopefully Lillian wouldn’t mind. It was a Clefairy, recently obtained actually, gifted from Sōjun. Though where the blind man had found it he had no idea. It meant a lot to him though and he intended to train it. Meet Gordon. XD

l i l l i a n g r o v e s Lillian silently thanked whatever force told her to sit at the table. Although Virgil was a bit of an oddity in appearance, he wasn't annoying or clingy or pushy at first sight. She wasn't in much of a mood to deal with hyperactive types. She calmly watched the interaction between Virgil and his Vulpix, amused at the fox's instinctual behavior towards the moving tail. Scott seemed intelligent, but he was still a creature ruled by habits. Her ears flicked at the noises of the scuffle. Feeling a stare on her, she looked up and noticed that Virgil was smiling. She smiled back, not wanting to seem rude. The silence was as comforting as the smell of tea and coffee and the warmth of the cafe.
Her tea having warmed up, she took a small sip of it. It burned her tongue a little, but not enough to scald it, and she managed to keep a straight face through the slight pain. At that moment, the other trainer released a Clefairy onto the floor next to them, causing her ears to twitch a little at the sound of the pokeball. She looked at the angelic creature for a second before grinning a little. Is he showing off? she thought, unsure why he'd let him out. Perhaps just to relax with him. Feeling slightly humorous, she reached into her purse and tapped Trickle's pokeball, letting him come out in a burst of red light.
<Oooh, this place is nice.> The Horsea's trilling voice echoed his appreciation for the cozy scenery around them. Then he looked at Virgil and his pokemon, but he was more fascinated by the human's appearance than anything. But he wasn't about to bring it up. <Hey, what's going on? Any conversation...?> Trickle glanced at Lillian as if silently nudging her to speak, but she merely grinned a little at the Horsea, almost regretting that she'd chosen him to release out. It was probably gonna get awkward if he forced her to talk.

Virgil had just sent Gordon out to get a closer look at the Clefairy. He’d never seen one up close before, though he did want to show off his variety of Pokémon to others, he wasn’t one to flaunt. He usually waited for someone to comment on it first, himself staying quiet throughout the entire thing. He thought that maybe if he sent out some Pokémon, something interesting would happen, or maybe it would strike up a conversation. It was so quiet.
Gordon gave a lopsided grin to Lillian. Though he didn’t know his trainer quite well yet, he wasn’t as quiet as he was. The normal type rubbed his paws together in a scheming manner; small eyes slanting down to purposely give the appearance of mischief. Virgil, with Scott still clinging to his tail, tapped the Pokémon on the head gently. Gordon looked up and growled, sticking his tongue out at him.
Virgil’s attention turned from Gordon to Trickle as Lillian sent out the sea horse, and his brow lifted. Scott let go, plopping down onto the table gently before he turned to eye the water type with undisguised curiosity. ‘Oooh, this place is nice.’ It was, Scott noted, glancing around the cafe. Fairly old fashioned but that was cool. At least there weren’t any annoying beeping noises like he’d heard elsewhere. ‘Hey, what’s going on? Any conversation...?’
Virgil scratched the back of his neck awkwardly with the tip of his tail. He was going to ask ‘what do you want to talk about?’ but he felt it would be unfair to shift the focus onto Lillian. She seemed like a shy person already so to pressure her into that wasn’t an ideal situation. Instead, he thought about what there really was to talk about. Pokémon? The weather? Oh sure, use the default, extremely cliche question 'Nice weather we're having'! He wasn’t sure. After a brief moment of thought, he settled for a topic. “You’re an Audino ‘Morph, aren’t you?” His eyes twinkled thoughtfully and he tilted his head, feeling the air stiffen. Was it going to rain soon? “That’s interesting. Do you like it? Being a Pokémorph, I mean.”

l i l l i a n g r o v e s Lillian looked at Gordon when the mischievous Clefairy rubbed his paws together, certain that the creature wasn't up to any good. But the trainer's tapping on his head seemed to get him under control, although she was curious to what he would do. Hopefully nothing that would cause trouble. That would disrupt her relaxing evening tea.
Trickle barely noticed that his remark had unsettled both trainers, making the silence somewhat fragile now. Silence was something hard to keep in its purest form, and now Lillian sensed that it was to leave them. She looked up at Virgil with an expectant look regardless, passively taking another sip of her tea when he abruptly spoke. Her ears twitched almost reflexively when he called her an Audino morph. "I am." She answered, unfazed by the question. She was used to it. Were it not for the chilly weather, she would've set the teacup down, but instead she held it in her hands to make use of its warmth. "It has it's ups and downs." She replied in a calm voice, pursing her lips a bit. "Do you? Like being a morph, I mean." She took another sip after asking, feeling comfortable with the somewhat small talk. It was nice relating to someone.
Trickle seemed satisfied that the two humans were talking now. Glancing at Scott and Gordon, he felt the need to say hi. <So hey there, you two. I'm Trickle. You?> He inquired, smiling with his eyes since well.. you couldn't do much with a nozzle like his in terms of expression.

Now that was a tricky question. Did Virgil like being a Pokémorph? He lowered the cup from his lips and stared at his arms, seeing through them to remember the ugly blue-scaled limbs beneath. They were pink flesh with countless, while beautiful, very dangerous sets of claws. Every time he moved his arms he could feel those blue scales chafing, clicking like they were taunting him. He didn’t want people to see them, because if they did...
Well, Dragon Scales were very rare and very valuable. Since Dratini were rare enough, with Dragonair being almost a fairy tale and Dragonite the stuff of legend, some traders would do anything to get their hands on anything dragon-related. He planted the cup back down and used the tip to shift a stray strand of hair. Like Lillian, it had it’s ups and downs.
“I’m passionate about helping people. In the past I lived with a colony of Dratini up in Ile de Glace, leading it beside a Dragonair... I helped to save lives when storms ravaged the seas, and I couldn’t have done that without my 'morph abilities.” He explained, his expression calmly thoughtful. “To not reveal myself makes me quite powerful, almost a myth back there, you could say. Amusing really, since I guess I was never really seen, like the Dragon family. But before then I was contained and raised by scientists who thought that I had a connection to Lugia.”
As he said the name of the legendary Pokémon, his eyes seemed to glitter with some kind of emotion. Was that hope or love? It was hard to say. “I’m a Dragonair Pokémorph, you see, and... When I was born, it was on the last day of a forty day storm. When I broke free of their hold, another forty day storm started, and I... I thought Lugia saved me. So yeah,” he smiled warmly. Only a slight smile, but it was enough to convey his determination. “If I can help people and Pokémon then it's worth the odd stares and awkward questions.”
Scott and Gordon both smiled at the Horsea, nodding their own greetings. “I’m Scott,” murmured the smaller than usual Vulpix, jumping down onto the ground to meet the sea horse. “Gordon,” added the Clefairy. “Trickle? That’s a cool name. Hey,” his voice drew quiet, secretive, “Want to have some fun? Play a prank on some of the other people here?”

l i l l i a n g r o v e s Lillian analyzed his action in staring at his arms; perhaps they were the most affected part of his body, which was why he was hiding them under a well designed costume. But she might be wrong, she understood. She continued to sip her tea as Virgil began his speech, her eyes pinned on him as she nodded every once in a while to show that she was listening. It was an entrancing tale, and she felt honored that he was inclined to share it with her, a complete stranger. His eyes were full of life, drawing her own large blue eyes in a stare as he continued.
At the 'so yeah,' she realized that the riveting tale was over, so she looked down at her tea. His next remark resonated with her; she knew all about it. "Yeah, it is." Lillian agreed, offering him a smile. "That must have been rough." She commented on his adventure, hoping it'd count as thanks for telling his story. "My story isn't nearly as interesting." She said with a small chuckle, taking another sip of her tea, which was almost gone.
<Nice to meetcha two.> Trickle replied in a trill of a voice. <Thanks! She calls me Trick for short. It's cool.> He nodded as if he were proud of Lillian. Suddenly Gordon took on a more secretive whisper, though, one that simply forced him to lean in and listen. A mischievous grin came upon his snout. <Sure. What's the plan?> He whispered quietly. Lillian's ears picked up their whispers, but she didn't want to confront them immediately, so she kept her eye on them, predicting that they were going to do something childish.

Virgil, being quite observant in nature, also noticed the absence of sound from the three Pokémon, but dismissed it for the while. Gordon seemed harmless at that point, so he listened to Lillian instead. It seemed she’d noticed as well. “Oh please,” Virgil smiled encouragingly, “I won’t force you if you don’t want to, but it would be interesting to hear of another Pokémorph’s story. It seems that they’re all either quite abusive or exciting in some manner. If there's anything you need to talk about, I'll listen.”
Perhaps it was obvious that he was being cautious on what he revealed to this woman, but Audino were by nature quite caring. This woman, she seemed so shy and introvert, quite like himself, so he felt he could relate to her. His eyes flicked down and he sipped at his coffee, tilting his head skyward slightly to let the warmth flow over the back of his throat. He was so busy paying attention to Lillian and the Pokémon beneath him whispering that he didn’t notice a group of two boys eyeing him darkly from nearby.
Gordon grinned at Trickle, eyeing Scott with his own mischievous expression. “I was thinking maybe if we swapped about the salt, sugar and pepper shakers to start off with. Maybe switch people’s bags so that they walk off with other peoples-! HEY!” Suddenly one of the two boys reached forward and snatched Virgil’s bag before he took off. He jumped to his feet, skirting around the table.
Scott charged after him instantly, spitting an ember at the boy before he could get out of the door. The boy yelped, slapping at his trouser leg, tossing the bag away from him. With the latch sealing it shut undone, the contents scattered over the floor, and Scott lunged for the first three things he saw as Virgil moved to put out the flame that nipped at the boy’s ankle. It took only a second to put out the tiny fire, and by that time, Scott had skilfully flipped over and snatched two of the three items from the air.
A Fluffy Tail hit the ground with a quiet thud. Virgil watched the boy break free of his gentle grip and race off, followed by his friend. What happened next, though, would stay implanted into his mind forever. His eyes noticed the two objects that the Vulpix, Scott, had caught. Before he could call out for his best friend to drop them, Scott disappeared in a stunning burst of light.
At first it was a simply ivory hue, pulsing out with warm energy akin to a fire type as it expanded and the fox grew in size. Virgil shielded his eyes as the orb that the Vulpix had held shattered like glass and enveloped the glowing Pokémon in a spiral of colours, like a rainbow. With a massive build up of power signalling the new moves he’d just learned, Scott howled and leapt forward, the colours pushing out and fading until he stood atop an empty table. He was large, slender, fox like, his fur shimmering like a coat of glitter had been cast over him. His eyes burned a bright red and he systematically flicked each tip of his nine tails before flexing his paws and staring at his trainer awkwardly. “I, uh...” 'Oh damn...'

l i l l i a n g r o v e s Lillian turned her gaze back to Virgil as he beckoned for her to tell her own story, smiling when he finished. She always enjoyed listeners. Her quiet breath of a voice was usually ignored, so what was the point of speaking in groups? But one on one always gave her a chance. "I would have been born human if my parents, curious scientists they were, didn't perform an experiment on me while I was still in the womb. I don't blame them for anything that might've happened, though." She paused, then continued. "Most of the Audino genes were recessive, but I retained the ears and instincts for sure." She smiled. "I tried to grow up fairly normally, school and all, but when I was young, I was often made fun of. As a result, I'm a bit of a recluse." She pondered if she should continue, telling him about how she always wanted to be a nurse and that her dreams had been crushed in that regard, but that was about when two boys snatched Virgil's bag and took off.
Trickle had been listening intently to Gordon's plan, snickering at the condiment shaker switching idea, but he was about to protest against the bag one, thinking that it was too cruel, when suddenly the boys did their thanggg. <Woahwoah woah!> Sputtering a bubble in surprise as he watched the events unfold.
Lillian had stood up reflexively, but before she could act, the Vulpix had bolted and lit the boy on fire. A gasp left her mouth; what if the child got hurt? But luckily Virgil had gotten over there and put it out, and the children were well enough to run the heck away before a huge flash of light met her eyes. She was forced to shield her vision as the vulpine evolved into a much larger, blue-tipped Ninetales. The whole restaurant had taken notice, staring in awe of the beautiful creature. Things like this didn't happen often in the little cafe.
"Wow... beautiful..." Lillian said in a breathy voice, her eyes drawn to the silky fire type. She sat back down at their table, glad that none of the commotion had knocked her tea over. "Congratulations." She felt she should say to Virgil, her lips stretched in a friendly smile. Then the waitress walked over, holding a platter that held a teapot on it. She had wanted to refill Lillian's tea, but the Ninetales on the empty table caught her attention first. "No pokemon on the tables, please." The waitress said in a practiced voice before refilling Lillian's teacup back up. "Thank you." Lillian said with a nod before ripping a packet of sugar open and tapping it into the little teacup.

‘Oh no,’ Scott hopped down from the table and anxiously stared at his paws. He worked his claws into the soft wooden flooring and drew his ears back anxiously. He knew that those two items had been gifts for Sōjun as a way of thanking him for giving him things and just being a good friend. Now he’d lost them both, and while it hadn’t been Scott’s fault, he felt guilty that they’d both been used on him. He had wanted to stay a Vulpix for a while longer just to level up and learn a new attack, but now...
Virgil stood rigidly, his eyes just running along the Ninetales’ slender frame. He was still smaller than usual for a regular Ninetales, like he had been as a Vulpix. He was a bit upset that the presents for his travel partner had been lost, but on the bright side, thinking of all the useful things Scott could do now that he was bigger and faster... It was worth it, he convinced himself. He’d just have to find something else to give to Sōjun.
Ignoring the other dumbstruck stares from around the cafe, Virgil crouched down in front of the Kitsune and tilted his chin up with the tip of his tail. “It’s okay, Scott,” he smiled, “You did well to get my bag back. I’m proud of you.” Scott’s lips curled upwards in a smile and he nodded, feeling reassured. Some semblance of guilt still remained but he was sure Virgil wasn’t going to start yelling at him. He never did, actually, and the Kitsune felt somewhat appalled at himself for doubting his trainer.
“Thanks,” intoned the gorgeous fire type as Lillian commented on his appearance. “Not as cute as you though, Lily.” He hoped she wouldn’t mind the nickname. Virgil sat back down on his chair and, grinning, curled an arm around the silk-furred fox.
“It’s Scott who should be praised, but thank you, and I’m very sorry about that interruption. I should have been paying attention.” Gordon was still staring at Scott like he was a fish out of water. Virgil thought about the Audino’s natural instincts. It was to heal, wasn’t it? To look after others... He knew Joseph had an Audino, and a shiny one at that, and she was a very naturally motherly Pokémon who felt inclined to help others any way she could.
“With your genes, even recessive, you would be a great nurse. I definitely think you should pursue a healing career.” He encouraged smoothly, still smiling. The long arm of his costume glided against Scott’s shoulder affectionately. “I think with the nature you seem to hold, from what I’ve seen at least, a nursing role would be perfect for you. I have a friend who actually owns a shiny Audino and he’s concerned that she’s not receiving as much care as she should be getting. I think he’s looking to trade it, so you might want to contact him. His number is...” he listed Joseph’s number, along with his name and where he believed the man was currently: route 2. It would be easy to meet even if she was a bit curious and he knew Joseph wouldn’t mind at all.

l i l l i a n g r o v e s Lillian felt a blush rise to her cheeks at the compliment and the nickname. She hadn't been called Lily since she graduated high school. "Thank you." She said in a charmed voice, smiling at the polite fox. The human began speaking again, making her ears twitch. "It's not your fault." She replied kindly, sipping her tea again. He continued on about her, which was unexpected. She was prepared for him to forget everything she'd said, but it seemed he was different from others.
Pursue a healing career... as if I didn't already try before. Lillian's blue eyes darkened just a little bit, but she continued to listen, glad that at least he thought she'd be a good nurse. Then again, he was only basing this off of her morph qualities and what he'd seen of her so far. But she had to question if he was already certain that he knew her. "I'll consider it." She replied, not sure why he was telling her about a shiny Audino in the first place. Sure she was an Audino morph, but that didn't necessarily mean that she was looking for one. But she was fond of the creatures and she had a distinct connection with them regardless. In the next moment, he said the number out loud, and she quickly tapped it into her phone for later. "Thanks." She said tersely, putting the phone away. She couldn't help but feel that his compliments and suggestions that she should be a nurse were just to haul a pokemon onto her. But she believed he was better than that, so she shrugged it off.
Trickle breathed a sigh when the event was over, then turned back to Gordon. <Pranking time?> He whispered very very quietly, wanting to cause some havoc before Lillian's tea was done. Because, of course, she'd be paying more attention!
