Maria twirled an empty Pokeball on her finger, its usual resident beside her, walking silently as they made their way through the busy trainers lounge. Before the incident, the Treecko would have been running, skipping and jumping around the entire time they made their way to the room, but instead, she was quiet. Her eyes forward and walking in almost a somber way. Maria wondered if Shamu had backed down on his words, and they had hurt her starter Pokemon. If that was the case, she would have to hurt her boss. Not that she thought he had done it, most likely it had been that bastard Blaze or something like that. It hadn’t been Syl either, in all actuality, that man loved Pokemon, that much she knew. It hurt knowing that her Pokemon wasn’t the same as before, and it was her fault for leaving her in the daycare. It had been a risky thing to do but at the time she had thought that her gaining a few free levels wouldn’t be such a bad thing. It was now that she realized maybe it was just better to do things the hard way. And that’s why they were at the trainer’s lounge today, grabbing up a few experience points for Mint, the teammate that had been missing for awhile.
”Alright Mint, let’s see who we can find in the rosters shall we?”
She flipped through a list of people waiting to battle and who had opened rooms. It was such a long list and none of the names really stood out to her. Such a pity… That was till she got to the end of the list and saw a very familiar name. Shamu was in here waiting for a battle? Perfect time for her to get some practice in against a legit Team Death member, much less her own recruiter/boss. He was in one of the last rooms, why had he chosen a room so far away from the entrance? Was he trying to be like the final boss in a video game or something? She had a feeling she wasn’t going to be in for an easy battle. Not at all. Waltzing down the hall with her Pokemon by her side Maria felt pretty good about this battle. Opening the door to the room she actually sort of kicked it in a little.
”Alright boss lets battle!”
She picked another Pokeball out of her pocket. Why not make it a double battle while they were at it? No sense in wasting a chance for a battle after all right? Instead of the ball she chose out popped something from her bag again. It seemed as though Calvin was making an appearance in this battle. Lucky her… That derpy ass fish thing had just randomly appeared one day and caught itself in one of her Pokeballs by accident. Now he wouldn’t stop appearing out of it. All. The. Time. She had never used him in battle so how bad could he really be? Looking down at the floor she watched as he scooted around over it making racecar noises… that bad…

Susumu had been waiting in here for a battle for a while with no Pokemon out, mostly just whistling and texting to keep his mind busy. At the sound of footsteps, he perked up at the sight of the familiar girl. Oh hey, he knew who that was! He could recognize her from the way her hair looked, as well as that familiar face. All he needed was a name to the face. Come on brain, work for him! Work work work--Maria! That was right! His face lit up in recognition as his lips curled up into a playful smile, glad to see a friendly face around here. "Maria, so you're training up a bit? Works out. How's the TD thing going?" He asked as he stood up, stretching. Did she ever get in? If not, he was definitely going to make sure that she did. Blaze was absolutely swamped with TD applications these days, and there was something being planned or something, but he wasn't sure how accurate that information was.
She sent out two Pokemon; a Treecko and a Stunfisk, an odd combination from a girl like her. Still, she had style and taste in Pokemon. He did note that the foes looked a bit weaker level wise than the Pokemon he brought with him, so with a shrug, he picked Pokemon that would kind of even it out a bit. He threw out two Pokemon to hopefully make this a good match; Jenna and Ken. Both were incredibly stubborn and hardheaded Pokemon, yet he had a hard time imagining replacing them ever. They were both just so fitting on his team, he needed them.
"Alright, time to get reckless. Defense Curl and Rock Polish." He had a mischevious smile, as if he was planning something scary. Jenna snorted; not that intimidated by these punks, but she curled into a giant ball to get herself prepared for the match. She hated feeling this submissive in the match though, as if she was just bait for them to attack. Ken started to spin around, making his body super shiny as the hard rocky exterior began to chip away. "Magnitude, get them all!" Susumu announced dramatically, and the much faster Geodude slammed his fists into the ground, making it rumble as an average Magnitude was aimed at all Pokemon except for him. Jenna was definitely hit, grunting and biting her lip as she was hit by the attack. What was that damn rock thinking?! She hated him so much, god damn.

Maria was slightly surprised to see that shamu was so willing to battle her. Not that it mattered, she would have pushed for a battle either way. After all, Syl was counting on her to get stronger. He needed her, right? Mint would be an important part of her team so she needed to get stronger. Calvin was here because she needed a partner, nothing more. If she had used Zuzu then this battle would go a lot faster. But none of her Pokemon were gaining experience other than him so she needed to branch off. Having just one strong Pokemon would make it easy for now but later on, especially once she got to the Elite Four she would need an entire team of Pokemon high leveled and strong. Otherwise she would be sunk. Her team was starting to shape up though, just a few more adjustments and they would be pretty well together.
”Yeah, I’m trying to train Mint up. She’s behind since the daycare incident. I’m glad to have her back though. She’s a lot quieter than before… Guess that’s just a separation thing though. Alright, let’s see what you’ve got Boss.”
She watched as the blonde’s Pokemon did their respective moves, it wasn’t until the Magnitude hit that she winced a little bit. Her Pokemon were obviously underleveled for this battle and it was going to be rough getting them through it. Still, maybe a few levels could be gained from it. Mint Leered at her opponents, quietly surveying the field. So this was one of the guys who had allowed the daycare to be raided and caused her to be separated from Maria, caused her to become who she was today. And Maria called him boss? How could she? Mint felt slightly betrayed at the thought that Maria let her be taken away. Still, she had to have a reason for it. There had to be a reason for what her trainer did, there always was right? Focusing a green orb of energy she shot it towards the Geodude, hoping to recover a small bit of health from it.
Calvin was just derping along on the floor, still making racecar noises as she moved. His racecar abilities making it to where he could dodge the Magnitude attack on accident. He opened his mouth wide and smiled at the Geodude.
DEEEERRRRRRRRP
He launched a Mud Shot attack at the Geodude as well.

"I've got a lot of things." He said with a laugh, nodding at his subordinate in TD as she brought it on. Her Pokemon were smart to avoid the moves that they could, then they proceeded to target Ken with super effective attacks. At first the speedy Geodude thought he could avoid them both, but after he was hit by the Mud Shot, the mud hardened around him and started to slow him back down. That was the Absorb snuck up behind him and took some health right out of him, making him wince and mumble from the pain. This was a bit too intense of him, and already he was in a panting condition from the moves. Thankfully the absorb was a low powered move from a lower leveled Pokemon, but the Mud Shot didn't help at all.
Jenna reacted on her own time when she got leered at, not having any of that as she stood up tall and proud with buck teeth glistening at the Treecko. With a mean snicker her fur started to sparkle and crackle with signs of electricity. Raising her arms up as she charged it, she laughed maliciously as she fired the Thunderwave at the grass type, trying to trip it up before choosing to try to attack her. One small issue though; Susumu was making Ken do something derpy and annoying, which got in her way.
"That's good, keep using Mud Sport. Then punch that Stunfisk out of here!" He encouraged, grinning as Ken made mud splatter all over Jenna and him to boost their resistances to electrical attacks. She scowled at the feeling, while he seemed to enjoy it. As he went to aim a clear punch at the fish, she glowered as she suddenly turned and changed targets. She planned on hitting that damn fish first-- and she was going head on, apply directly to the forehead. It was a Headbutt and Mega Punch against one Pokemon-- oh dear!

The battle was going rather well, despite the level differences between the Mint and the rest of the Pokemon on the field. All of this was for her benifit anyways. She was the reason she was here to train, Calvin being just a side Pokemon to use on occasion. In all honesty she could have used just about anyone and it would have been fine, it seemed like a good idea to use someone to cover Mint with only a slight level increase. Mint did a nifty little backflip out of the way from the ThunderShock attack, not wanting to getting paralyzed this early in the battle. It would be ridiculously stupid for that to happen. Her body tensing as it landed, her muscles still tired from disuse from being captive. She stared at both of her opponents, still unable to know if she could forgive them for even being a part of the reason she was so tense, the Treecko was nervous and scared, not wanting to believe that her trainer would have handed her over willingly but also wanting to believe Maria when she said that these people were not the enemy... At least one good thing had come from the captivity, her legs powering up as she aimed a Double Kick attack towards the Geodude. Calvin was derping around, his body swooshing around like he didn't even care, cause he didn't. He was awesome. Yupyup. He was amaasazibg. That wasn't even a word but it was. He felt the Mega Punch hit him, it hurt... Then the Headbutt came for him and instinctively he release a ThunderShock attack at the Bibarel, the force of it causing him to scoot back from his opponents. He took this derping opportunity to use another Mud Shot on Ken. Maria speaks in this color Level: 15 Status Changes: None Health: Full! The Stunfisk was being silly and tried using two attacks at the same time without a quick claw, but sadly that didn't quite work out. Only the Thundershock sparked through at Jenna, and thanks to her mud coated body, it did half the normal damage. Whatever was super effective against her was canceled out, which thankfully saved her ass this time around. She wasn't thankful or anything towards the annoying rock, but she was glad that he was making himself useful. <Heh heh heh. You asked for it now.> She snickered over at the Stunfisk that was in a mix of electricity and mud, mystic water necklace glistening as it started to power up her water abilities.
It wouldn't have too much of an effect, but it wouldn't hinder her at all, that was for sure! She opened up her mighty beaver jaws and sprayed maple syrup water out at the ground type in hopes of giving it a painfully cold morning shower. Oh that'll teach it to try and use two attacking moves! Hot damn!
Ken was meanwhile being pelted by two double kicks! Ouch! He grunted since he was unfortunate enough to have lost some of his defense, rubbing his temples as he glared harshly at the Treecko for battering him like this. It was time for some serious payback! Susumu saw what Ken was thinking and grinned, approving of the idea. "Use it, Ken!" He ordered, and soon the Geodude fired a freaking Fire Blast over in the Treecko's direction. This wasn't going to be pretty.

The attack went flying towards Mint violently as the grass type watches in something of absolute horror. She didn't have time to dodge this attack and with her already being a little tired this early in the battle this was sort of overkill. Mint fell to the ground, screaming a little as she did. The fire tore through her body and caused her to fall over, fainted this early in the battle already. It was pretty disappointing, but inevitable. Maria picked the small grass type up off the floor and hugged her. She had tried her best. That's all she could have asked for. Calvin was hit by a water gun attack, not that he was 100% sure where it came from but it still hit him. His body splashed around, making a lot of mud and shooting it at the Geodude.

The Treecko went out with next to no incident, but the Stunfisk was still around and really getting at him with the super effective attacks. The combined assaults were getting to him, and he found himself on the edge of defeat. Exhausted from the mud that soaked his body completely, feeling miserable all the while, the Geodude stared at his foe with a weakened determination. The Stunfisk was intent on taking him out, wasn't it? He glanced at Jenna to see if she was going to try anything, and the Bibarel ran right ahead with a lowered head.
<He's all mine.> She snarled, telling him to back off because she wanted to finish the match without Ken getting in the way. As she charged blindly ahead, her head was aimed right at the electric type's face as she powered her way ahead. <C-Cocky bitch!> He cried, attempting to hop after her, but the lowered speed from the mud ruined his rock polish completely.
"Take a breather Ken." Susumu advised, but the Geodude was getting cranky at Jenna and her ego-centric ways. He started towards the Stunfisk with a Mega Punch, but she noticed that he was creeping up on him. <Heh.> She snickered, swiping her tail at the Geodude to make the move miss, leaving her to be the only offensive attacker this time around.

Some interesting things were going on in the battle! Despite the level advantage, types trumped all as the final ground type move splattered all over the defenseless Geodude. Ken grunted to himself as he became fully encased in a disgusting hill of mud that made things hard to move and breathe in. It hurt just to be crushed by it as it started to dry, and the Geodude fell to his defeat then and there, with Jenna haughtily looking over her shoulder and smirking at the weaker Pokemon. Typical rock; had its grave right there waiting for it. That meant that the last prey was hers, and she was confident that she would be able to show off while finishing it off.
<C'mere fishie!> She taunted, realizing that the Mud Sport wore off the moment Ken was defeated. No matter, she didn't need the protection anyways. Susumu quietly returned Ken, finding both of his Pokemon annoyingly arrogant as he thought about how they were behaving like spoiled brats. How the hell was he supposed to stop them from acting like that...? Sighing, he wondered if maybe it was too late since they were getting so strong.
"Hey, don't worry about it. You're already plenty strong." Susumu grinned at Maria, not wanting her to be so hard on herself. Hell, he was going to try to be one of those bosses that wasn't the biggest asshole ever. "Your Grovyle seems to agree too." He noted with a chuckle at the evolving Pokemon, crossing his arms as if it proved his point.
Jenna seemed eager to finish off the Stunfisk, which wasn't much of a talker in the first place. She doubted she'd be able to make it say anything interesting or intelligent, so she fired off a Shadow Ball that flickered with sparks, stinging her lips as it was launched at the ground type.

Maria sighed for a moment then recalled the fish. "Guess that's that. I don't think I'll be using Calvin in many gym battles to be honest... Thanks for the battle Boss, it really helped me and Mint out a lot."

"Ah, really?" Susumu noted as the Shadow Ball finished the Stunfisk off, which meant the battle was over. His Bibarel hardly got any experience from the situation, but it was good training for Maria. That and he was able to get an idea for how far she was in her journey, which was actually quite impressive. She was doing well if she was able to take one of his Pokemon out, as well as make Jenna worry about her own safety. "I thought it was a neat Pokemon." He commented, giving Calvin some credit for his efforts even if he lost. Still, it was up to Maria to decide which Pokemon she wanted to use. People judged him for using a Bibarel, but Jenna was his most determined fighter on his team, even if she wasn't exactly a team player.
"No problem though, I'm always open for a battle with a fellow TD." He winked at her, grinning since he felt helpful for once. Returning Jenna into her Pokeball, a thought came to him. He wondered if she knew anything about Blitz, that semi-cocky asshole that kept battling him and winning. "Have you met any other TD members?" He decided to ask, being a bit careful about it in the process. He would've hated to single out Blitz like that, but he was curious as to what she knew about the others.

Training a weaker Pokemon yes but not an actual Gym Battle. "He's more like a Pokemon I'd use to help train another one, he likes doing that more than serious battles anyways. He prefers to derp around instead." Recalling the derp fish she put his Pokeball away and helped Mint stand up. She had regained enough of her strength to walk. Folding her arms she stood up against the wall, a small branch in her mouth. Maria walked a little closer to Susumu so she wouldn't have to talk as loudly, who knew who was outside of the room anyways? "Let's see, I've met you and the Big Boss Syl... And... Blaze... Me and Syl get along well enough I think, we've sort of come to an agreement. Me and Blaze... Its even more complicated." She remembered the first time visiting Shasta Ruins... And before she knew it her life was being threatened by some idiot with a giant diglett thug.

'Oh, I get it. I do the same thing with some of my own.' Susumu thought as he realized what Maria meant, nodding. It always felt somewhat weird leaving his Pokemon in his personal computer with no purpose, so he tried to use them so they'd end up being useful in one way or another. In the end he felt better about himself as a trainer, and he got to experiment with different types of Pokemon. It might've been tough and a handful, possibly even a waste of time to some, but he enjoyed what he did. The Grovyle looked better, which was a relief. He didn't like seeing his own starter injured, mostly because it seemed a lot more personal for some reason. It probably wasn't the most pleasant for Maria either, but he decided not to comment about it.
They were suddenly a lot closer to each other, but it wasn't a distance that he was uncomfortable with. Nodding at her responses at meeting both of the bosses, he chuckled at each of her reactions. "You know what, I'm in the same position. For the longest time I thought he was pissed off at me." He chuckled, crossing his arms as he thought about Blaze. Blaze was fucking scary when he wanted to be, but after his mission at the pound, then the time in the mines...well, Blaze wasn't pissy then.
"I haven't really seen many of them lately, but I've seen Blitz around. He's really strong, so be ready if you ever plan on battling him." He advised, wondering if she knew who he was at all. "He doesn't seem like the social type either, it's kind of boring having members like that around." He chuckled, kind of missing having Dougie around. He was the only TD member that was in it with him since the beginning, but Maria was fun. He was fine with talking to Maria. Eleanor was just weird, and surprisingly cold and painful in ways. Very bad ways he didn't want to talk about.

And even then she hadn't thought he was really mad at her, just confused as to why the hell she wasn't either terrified or fucking him right off the bat. Not that she had sex with him... That was a no no. Crossing her arms for a moment she thought about who she actually knew in Cheyenne... Not a lot of people actually. Such a shame since some of them seemed like such nice people. "I'll keep an eye out for him. Then again if I can't beat you boss then there's no way I can beat him... Then again, with Zuzu I do a lot better in battle." She loved her Golbat, he was the strongest Pokemon she had at the moment and it was likely to stay that way. He was a lot of fun to work with and pretty soon he would be a Crobat. A shiny Crobat that was all hers! She would be so cool!
"So when do you think I'll be ready for my first mission? I finally got my first gym badge and I'm working on my first ribbon. Then again I might not be ready yet..." It worried her that she wasn't good enough to be in TD, her Pokemon might not be strong enough and maybe she wasn't a good enough trainer. She just wanted to be able to protect Syl honestly... Even though it wasn't her fight she would still help the best she could.

Not all that familiar with Maria's Pokemon, he nodded as he figured that she had some stronger ones on hand. The Grovyle might've been her starter, but she probably had a lot of free time on her hands to make the others catch up. That was pretty impressive, since as far as he knew, a lot of trainers felt rather soul crushed about the incident even if it hadn't been much in the first place. It was simply minus one Pokemon in their party for a while, though maybe not knowing what was being done to them was enough to cause some worry. He shook his head, giving up on that trail of thought. Some were bound to think that they were in the wrong for that social stunt, but they all got their Pokemon back in the end.
"Your first mission...?" Ah, didn't he start doing missions even before he accomplished beating the first Gym? "You should be ready by now, for sure." He nodded, though he was a bit stuck on one of his current missions. He had to actually go out of his way to steal a Pokemon-- not fun. Especially if the trainers he was running into were just little kids; all boring and tiny. Not even worth it.
She looked more than ready, really. He wondered what was stopping her from even trying; perhaps it was performance anxiety? He didn't want to press it, but he'd encourage her no matter what she tried. "There are some set missions there that aren't hard. It's been a while so I don't remember them exaaactly. I think Blaze has easier, more private missions that count though." He mused, suggesting it in case she wanted to try to get on Blaze's good side.

If the Boss said she was ready then she could be ready. After all, she had beaten the first gym with no problem, taking her out with her Venipede and another Pokémon she couldn't quite place for some reason. Honestly the green haired girl had a terrible memory and it wasn't that big of a deal. "If you think I'm ready then I can do it. Me and my Pokémon are ready for just about anything most of the time..." Mint scoffed from the wall. If Maria was truly ready, she would have never left her in the Daycare center knowing it was too good to be true.

Susumu thought about it for a moment, glad that he was able to perk Maria up a little bit. He really didn't think that she'd manage to mess up her first mission, but if she did, she'd probably feel absolutely awful about it. "Don't worry if you mess up. I messed up my first time...when they were recruiting me." He tried to laugh at that, but he felt awfully bitter about the experience. He lost his Vulpix because he disobeyed an order from Blaze, not feeling that the mission was something that was morally right. The power plant was a disaster, and it was obvious. How did Blaze not even realize something like that? Oh well, he'd deny future missions if they ever ended up like that again. Though Blaze was scary, he'd rather not have any regrets. "It ended up well in the end though, even if I messed up." Yeah, he got his Vulpix back. Thank god he was so naive that he didn't have the time to feel betrayed by him.
"Anyways, let me know what happens when you do give it a shot." He took out his phone, flipping it open to reveal the banner that had his number on it--so he wouldn't forget his own number, of course. "Might as well be able to contact each other, right? It wouldn't hurt." He added with a grin, figuring that this would be a good idea. Besides, Maria seemed like a good person. What could possibly go wrong?
Better not be a million texts a day. Please, never that. Never ever ever that. At least this way he'd be able to help her directly if she had any problems. It was better if TD stuck together instead of working apart, so why not?

So Susumu had messed up on his first mission? That meant it wouldn't be so bad if she did, at least then she could get some pointers on what exactly she had done wrong. Her hand took the card and took out her own phone. It was a bright green thing with the grass Pokemon symbol surrounded by tiny poison symbols. They were her favorite types so it shouldn't have been surprise. "I'll make sure to contact you if I have a super emergency or anything. Promise I won't be much of a bother with it though, wouldn't want to run your bill up. How does someone in Team Death make money anyways? Doesn't seem like it would pay much..." She quickly put in his number and wrote her own on the other side of the card, handing it back to him.

All-righty then, he probably didn't have to worry about girls text spamming him then. Good. Only a few people had his number these days, and he didn't want to go spreading it around like an STD. "Ah, don't worry about a bill. It's unlimited." Thank god, though that was a pain in the ass to pay with his own flow of money. She was curious to the working conditions though, at least pay-wise, and he flinched. "Well its actually not too bad...Syl has a lot of money so he makes sure we stick around." It was actually mostly Susumu's fault for having money problems. He had wanted his own place, and an actual car, despite how useful Pokemon were. He really wanted one of those sporty ones, shiny and red, but it was impossible to buy with his current salary.
It was good enough for a Pokemon Trainer to get by though, and he had part-time jobs to try and reach his goal. Busting his ass all of the time, that was how it went. "You'll be fine, it's one of the more stable jobs out there." He added, knowing that it was pretty difficult to actually get fired from it. You'd get paid even if you were inactive, well, unless you vanished completely. Then they took you off. But as long as you checked in, it was good.
