Zack stood just outside Route 1. He knew that the moment he stepped in, he'd be alone for quite a while. Well, he wouldn't be alone, there just wouldn't be any people for quite a while. He would still have Sinj, the Cyndaquil he got from Professor Winter. Taking a deep breath, he set one foot across the border. Yes, he was nervous, but he wasn't about to chicken out. He had to do this. He needed to do it to get his pokemon strong enough to protect his sister.
Walking along the route, he realized it wasn't so bad. He just had to get used to it. The whole time, he was holding onto Sinj's pokeball expecting to be ambushed any moment by a wild pokemon... okay, so it might have seemed a little bad... dangerous even... terrifying... and if he where to get caught off guard, he could get seriously injured and have no help for miles.... he gulped nervously. Nope, no pressure at all.

There was another of those grubby little punks who thought that they could just walk through a forest that wasn't even theirs and pretend like they owned the place! This was the opinion of a rather grouchy old Zubat who was currently hanging upside down watching the male walk through the route. Unlike most zubat who simply curled their wings around themselves hers were crossed over her chest as she glared at the male as he moved closer. He was gonna do it wasn't he, just walk past, pay no attention to his surroundings and just go, ha just like all kids, thinking he's too good for her just because she was a Zubat...and old... She ruffled herself out as though she had feathers while watching him walk right under her, her slanted eyes locked onto his figure. Finally as he got to the other side she dropped down and went into a dive, pulling up just in time to not hit the ground and spinning around to face the male. She took a few moments to steady herself, her flying was slightly lopsided and her right wing joint sometimes seized up, but she was still a tough Zubat and she deserved to be noticed by this little creep! <HEY YOU THERE YOUNGSTER!> The bat screeched out, flapping toward the male, having to flap twice on one wing every now and then just to keep up. She was about to yell at him more but she forgot what the speech she had been planning to give him. Frustrated by this she opened her jaws wide and let out a very high pitched echoing sound, sending it streaming toward the male. That'll teach him! She thought, as she hovered, basically in the same spot.

Zack was still surprised to see a Zubat suddenly swoop down and attack, even though the whole time he had been preparing for it. He held his hands tightly against his ears as the Zubat let out an irritating supersonic screech. Zack couldn't tell the precise moment that the attack ended because his ears were ringing annoyingly loud. He grabbed Sinj's pokeball and lobed it toward the ground. A Cyndaquil arose from a flash of light as the pokeball opened. <Alright, let's get this over with.> He said with an annoyed tone. He leered at the bat with his eyes narrowed. He then proceeded to lunge at the pokemon with his head tucked down in an attempt to tackle the Zubat. ::cyndaquil:: Name: Sinj Level: 4 Gender: Male Ability: Flash Fire Attacks: Tackle, Leer, Extrasensory

pokemon encounter ! oh no. ohhh no. ooooh dear. the zubat seemed to have been hovering too low, the leering eyes setting her off-kilter. then, at the same time, she seemed to have dropped out of the sky. and plowed right into by the murderous cyndaquil. she landed flopped off on the other side of the grass. she gagged a mouthful of dirt and such from her mouth. when she regained the momentum to get back into the air.. well she was just angry. angry, sooo angry. she tore off again, swarming him down with her wings., or attempting to. she unleashed her horrendous fangs, trying to land them in the fire pokemon's shoulder.
or something. she'd get energy from him. she would! she wasn't about to get beaten down by a mere porcupine. pfft,, she was much tougher than that. muuuuch tougher! so tough, in fact, that'd she'd win this. totally, because she was just that epic. the purple bat managed to fly away from him, landing her leech life or not. hopefully she'd be able to stretch her wings and breath a sigh of fresh air. hopefully.

Zack did not know what he should do, but luckily Sinj seemed to know. All Zack knew to do was watch as Sinj did his thing. Sinj would ignore him anyway. The Cyndaquil was bit on the shoulder and could feel his energy slightly drain. The pain was hardly even noticeable and probably couldn't even be called pain. Leech Life was a pretty weak move as it is plus it was a bug type attack and thus, wasn't very effective. It didn't take Sinj too long to buck the Zubat off. <Is that all you got? I'm not even getting warmed up, no pun intended.> he taunted as the flames on his back began to grow. He leered at the bat and then proceeded to jump at her with a tackle. ::cyndaquil:: Level: 5 Gender: Male Attacks: Tackle, Leer, Extrasensory Ability: Flash Fire

The Zubat face-winged, in spite of the no-pun-intended part. Clearly if he had remembered to say that then the pun was intended. That was like saying, "I'm not racist, but..."! It wasn't even funny, the Zubat thought, and it seemed to only burn up her intolerance for youngsters. The leer affected her, sure, but the tackle felt weak – as though the Cyndaquil she was fighting wasn't at her exact same level. A few below, perhaps?
She snorted and clicked her tongue against the roof of her mouth, using her echo location to get a good sense of what was around her. Trees, foliage, the trainer was standing a few metres away from her and the Cyndaquil was behind her after the attack. She swung herself around and screeched a wave of varying frequencies towards the fire type, designed to knock about his senses a little bit.
“Don't start getting cocky with me, you little whippersnapper!” Flamed the Zubat angrily, “I've been battling since you were in your mother's belly!” She then spat out a dart at the fire type's face; an attack that would drain a little bit of energy from him and transfer a portion of it to her instead. If was a pity that she knew no other attacks, but with super sonic she could turn the tides a bit.

Sinj immediately stopped taunting when the Zubat's supersonic scream reached his ears. He was starting to feel dizzy in confusion. He then felt the dart poke him right on the head. Still, being a fire type, it didn't hurt much. Even though this Zubat was a higher level, it still wouldn't stand a chance. Sinj laughed slightly. He may be dizzy, but he wasn't in danger. He was having fun! Although the Leech life where starting to get on his nerves. Zack leered again at the Zubat and proceeded to charge at it with another tackle. However, due to his confusion he was seeing double and attacked a Zubat that didn't even exist. <Ha! How'd that feel!> He yelled out at the Zubat as if he hit her. "Sinj, there's nothing there..." Zack informed him. <Huh...? Right, I knew that... just... just finding out if you knew!> Sinj replied, turning the wrong way, again. The Zubat sighed, vexed, when the Cyndaquil turned in the wrong direction, tackled nothing, and then went on to turn the wrong way... Again. “See my point?” The Zubat sneered, matter-of-factly, “You young ones are so useless these days! Always up on your rumps playing games and laughing at silly jokes. In my day we never did those things.”
Oh god. Old people rant. Someone get the hose. The Zubat fluttered over the Cyndaquil and this time tried to sink her fangs into his throat to get the HP boost that she was after. Hopefully it wouldn't taste like HP sauce – because she'd tried that once and choked on it. It had been really hot!

Sinj was about to tackle in the wrong direction when he felt the Zubat bite into him from the side. He quickly bucked her off and turned to charge at her with a tackle. <You got alotta talk, but where's your walk?> He taunted. "There you go! Keep it up, Sinj!" Zack called out. However, the damage from the leech life was starting to become noticeable. This Zubat was starting to get on his nerves. He was always short tempered. Sinj leered at the bat again. It was starting to get boring going through the same routine over and over. Male Level 4 Attacks: Tacle, Leer, Extrasensory Ability: Flash fire -hit by leech life- =used tackle and leer=

The old zubat shouted as she was entrapped by the leer attack, before she was struck by the tackle attack, sending her flying into the ground. Even though she was old, her frail limbs got her back in the air. "Take this youngster!" She shouted, before sending a supersonic attack at the fire type, hoping to confuse its little brain into mush, and that it would stop frickin attacking her and leave her alone for the minute.

Sinj was ticked off when he heard the Zubat say he had no respect. <Might I remind you you attacked us? You have no respect for yor others!> He shouted out. He then felt the second Supersonic in his ears. It wasn't anything but annoying, especially considering he had already been confused. Sinj lined himself up with one of the many Zubats he saw due to his confusion. He then leered again and charged at the pokemon with yet another tackle. Yes, it was getting repetitive, but he didn't have many other choices. ::cyndaquil:: Level 5 Male Attacks: Tackle, Leer, Extrasensory Ability: Flash Fire

The Cyndaquil's words went right over the old Zubat's head, which was silly, because everyone knows not to argue with an old person. They tended to be very head strong about their values and set in their ways, and used many different kinds of dissonance in order to reason their way through their own faults. One was being utilized as the Cyndaquil made that smart statement, which the Zubat didn't need to think much over. <Having good scares builds character! I'm preparin' ya for the wilderness! If you ain't got the skills, then head for the hills!> She yowled at the Cyndaquil, who didn't appreciate her help at all when it came to giving valuable battle experience out in the routes. What a shame, what a shame.
She was leered at again when the Cyndaquil boredly tackled after her, and she had to admit, she saw it coming. Old woman Zubat was faster than the fire type, and she had the advantage of flight. <Normally I'd be napping by now, but if I snoozed then I'd lose.> She whistled comically as she dove to the left of the Cyndaquil, narrowly dodging the Tackle. She started to flap her wings to carry her back around, using a u-turn to charge back after Sinj.
Not the U-Turn attack, mind you, just the motion. If she was a bird she would've cawed angrily as she charged at the back of the Cyndaquil, attempting to use a Leech Life on the mouse's back to suck a little more health off of him. Delicious, she was getting well fed from this battle.

Sinj jumped to the side to avoid the Zubat's attack. <Oh, we have the skills "mind you"> Sinj said, mocking her egotistically as he jumped at the bat from behind with another tackle. <You've got your wings, but you lack the ability to use any stronger attacks, huh? At least I can deal real damage!> He said, again, egotistically. If Zack could understand the pokemon, he would definitely be calling off the fight right now. But since he couldn't, he was stuck watching and cheering Sinj on. "Hang in there, Sinj! It's gotta be weakening soon!" ::cyndaquil:: Level 5 Male Attacks: Tackle, Leer, Extrasensory Ability: Flash Fire

A wave of rage flowed over the elderly Zubat and she screeched with anger. Uh oh, don't raise her blood pressure – she'll have a heart attack! “Impudent, insolent, arrogant little, disrespectful whelp!” She carolled furiously. “You youngsters these days have no respect! No respect at all! Always complaining about one thing-” She was hit by the tackle, “-And waiting until someone does everything for you!”
Mad batwoman was mad. She clenched her teeth and tried to bite down hard into the Cyndaquil's throat, her heart racing, pumping adrenaline through her body, lending her strength. “In my day we showed respect! The world is doomed if this is it's future – doomed, I say! Arceus take us now while we still have a chance at redemption!”
Woah, that's... Deep. The Zubat, very angry at this point, sent another Supersonic at the fire type, trying to throw it off the battle.

Zack could tell that the Zubat was getting weak. "Way to go, Sinj! Keep it up! You're almost done!" He shouted out as he noticed this. The Cyndaquil was barely showing any signs of damage. But what could be expected? The Zubat was a higher level, but Leech life was such a weak attack and not to mention it isn't very effective. As far as Zack was concerned, this battle was won.
<You've got no respect for your superiors!> Sinj was then successfully bit on the throat by the bat. <Shut up, you crazy old bat! I only get mean when you make me!> He shouted as the Zubat was ranting about the "doomed" future. He then attempted to slam the bat into a nearby tree with a tackle to knock her off of his throat. This was one crazy bat. Flying around awkwardly, spitting out what he guessed could be called "insults" when in reality, it's just a bunch of random nonsense. As if it's disrespectful to attack a pokemon that suddenly swoops down and attacks your trainer.

The Cyndaquil was annoying him whenever it was being rebellious, finding its stand-offish nature irritating as he hissed at the fire type. So the Cyndaquil thought that he was his superior? What a lie right there! They were complete strangers, and this hooligan had no care for the elders that were to pass on wisdom, tough love, and advice to those that needed it. The Cyndaquil was in dire need of this, and he was just kind enough to force his knowledge on the young mouse. <Impulsive brat! Take it easy!> He cried after being tackled, starting to feel it after having his defense get fairly low.
He wasn't done with this Cyndaquil just yet, especially since he was hungry for revenge now. There was his pride as an old warrior on the line, which made him charge back at the Cyndaquil to bite into his backside. <Shame you ain't got no fire power! A bit weak there, sonny.> He whistled out as a taunt, a bit of a delay there since he recalled how the fire type insulted his lack of a flying type move.
Which was ok, he wasn't perfect. He could at least steal health back when he was hungry, and a Leech Life would do the job perfectly. He started to make his attempt to bite into the Cyndaquil, not caring if it bucked like a bull. He'd be fine, or at least he thought he would be.
