{desc=A Pokémon paladin in training.}((Might add a picture if i can draw it ^^)
Full Name: Astrid Fridtjof
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Appearance:
Astrid is a fair young woman taking after her mother in appearance, but her father in build. She stands 5'6'' with a fitting weight. Her hair is a light blonde and her eyes a greenish grey. While her body is somewhat lanky, her face is heart shaped and seemingly too round for her. Astrid is still developing her shapes, but due to her training routines she they don't seem to develop much. Astrid makes sure always to stay fit and fast in order to properly do the job she is aiming for. If dressed casually she will most often be wearing clothes that makes movement easy, as she will be likely to exercise. Astrid makes sure to wear her Paladin armour as often as possible, not only to get used to move around in it, but also to strengthen herself. The armour in which she is usually clad, Is made mostly from Skarmory feathers. This is due not only to the fact that this material is light and very durable, but also because the feathers can be harvested easily, without any harm to the Pokémon. These feathers are usually melted and molded into a fitting shape, though some of them are left in their original shape as decorations. The makers of the armour have made sure to dull the feathers however, as they're naturally very sharp.
Because the feathers are naturally a deep red colour, this is also the main colour of the Pokémon Paladin armour, red with metallic grey details. The armour is not entirely made of leather however, and some, more mobile parts are made from a mixture of Ferrothorn fibers and highly durable synthetic materials, woven into a tough, durable thick cloth.
Astrid's armour consists of:
A Deep red helmet, with a visor that can be put down, should her face need protection. The visor is usually up, and fastened so that it does not slide down at inopportune times. The helmet has grey details, mostly centered about the middle. At each temple a small crest of skarmory feathers sit, a longer feather on top and a few smaller below. These feathers have been dulled and polished, and are purely decorative. Astrid usually lets her hair hang out behind the helmet in a braid or ponytail to keep it in place.
Her upper torso is protected by a chest-plate with reinforced back as to protect the spine. Like the helmet the chest-plate is mostly red but with metallic details. Across the chest, the insignia of the Pokémon Paladins decorates, also in a pale metallic grey.
Astrid's lower torso is similarly covered by the mixed cloth, allowing her ease of movement, though the back is padded along the spine to prevent injury.
Her thighs are covered by Cuisses, though these are made somewhat differently from the rest or the armour, as the feathers haven't been melted, but rather bent and layered to form the Cuisses. Underneath the metal the armour also consists of the mixed cloth.
Astrid's shoulders and upper arms are clad in characteristically red Spaulders, made in the same way as the cuisses, that make movement difficult if one does not know how to move properly with them on. Her arms are mostly covered by the thick cloth and her elbows are padded as well to prevent damage to the joint.
On her hands and covering her wrists are a set of gauntlets, making said hands look a little too big for her body. The gauntlets are a mixture of cloth and metal and as such they aren't nearly as red.
Like her arms, Astrid's legs are covered in the mixed cloth, and it is similarly padded at the knees to protect the joins. Her shins and feet are protected by Greaves of the same red material, with thick soles that both protect and make it easier for Astrid to not slip and slide.
Astrid knows however that the armour is meant to be the last resort, and she is supposed to mainly evade attacks, or block them with her custom made shield.
The shield is a gift she got at graduation day, and like every other paladin, it is made to reflect the partner she got at the academy.
The shield is kite shaped, and stylished to mimic a pawniard. The edges of the shield is a dark grey/black colour, while the middle is the red colour of the pawniards head. A white line spans from the middle of the red part down to the tip of the shield, meant to represent the blade on top of a pawniard's head.
Lastly Astrid carries a sword at her side, a weapon that is by any means not meant to be used. It is sharp and as red as the armour as it is made of the same light material. The sword is a short sword with few details.
Background:
Astrid's father had been a knight. That was the single most important thing she remembered about her father, and it was without fail one of the most important aspects in her early life as well.
Many a summer the girl ran around in a smaller replica of the official Pokémon Paladin armour her father bore proudly, swinging her wooden blade to and fro, and taking imaginary blows with her shield.
Her father was a Pokémon Paladin, and thus a very busy man who was rarely home. her mother on the other hand, a fair maiden, had all the time in the world as she stayed at home, taking care of things and Educated Astrid and her three smaller sisters.
She was a wise and loving woman, and not one to discourage her daughter's dream of joining her father's path to knighthood, in fact, she was a loyal supporter of the idea, and made sure to prepare the girl for whatever she would face when she was allowed to join the academy at age 10.
She would train her mind, make her memorize types and their advantages and weaknesses towards each other. She made her state the names ofPokemonn, rare and common, from homemade cards to make sure she could instantly recognize whatever danger she might face, and even thought it would be taught at the academy, Astrid was taught the safety procedures and simplest way for a human to neutralize different Pokémon.
her mind was not her only tool however, and while it more often then not fell to her father to train the young girl's body, Astrid's mother made sure her daughter got healthy exercise routines from an early age, it wouldn't do with a weak body in the line of work she was so adamant to enter.
Astrid loved her mother as much as she adored her father, and therefore, leaving her behind to enter the Academy proved a tough test, she had been pampered a little too much.
Nevertheless she was accepted into the Knight Academy as she reached age 10, something no one had doubted. Here she would be trained in the way of the Pokémon Paladins, to serve and protect humanity, without damaging the Pokémon that were often the course of disasters unnecessarily.
The academy taught the young girl much more than what her mother had, and while her knowledge of Pokémon and type advantages proved to be a big help, she had no training in Pokémon anatomy or behavior, nor did her safety training prove particularly impressive compared to the vast knowledge of the library the academy possessed. There was easily an aisle of books for each known pokémon, and for some many, many more.
The girl was also taught better exercise routines. Routines that were to make her more than simply healthy, but rather they were to make her capable of wielding her armour, her shield and she had to be able to take a few blows, it was something no Paladin could avoid.
The most important thing she was taught at the academy however, was the Paladin code of honour, a code every paladin had to follow, the very essence of their order. The code was simple to memorize, but harder to follow. It read:
#1: Always protect those in need, be it Pokémon or human.
#2: Never do unnecessary harm.
#3: Never go back on your word.
#4: Never shame yourself.
The last art always proved the hardest for Astrid to uphold. While she did okay at not lying, and doing her duties, she was very bad at sizing up opponents, and more often than not, she would continue fighting a long lost battle.
Determination was good she was taught, but not when it hindered your reasoning and ability to think. One should rather give up with honour, than shame herself further by fighting a battle she could never win, at least as long as it didn't conflict with the first vow.
The young boys and girls were also taught how to care for Pokémon, as they would often be accompanied by such, and they were even taught how to nurse sick pokémon back to health outside of Pokémon centers.
One assignment in particular was something every student looked forward to. Once a student reached her 5th year of education, he or she would be given a pokémon egg, for which they had to care until it hatched. This newly born pokémon would then be their partner, and they would be taught how to fight alongside it, how to battle with it, and they would be taught how to befriend it. This pokémon would be their first partner, and though it would be the first of many, every student knew, that their first pokémon would be a special one none the less.
This was how Astrid met Xiphos.
The excitement had been great the day the pupils were to earn their eggs. They had been taught about eggs the whole month leading up to that very special day, and all of them knew that they were to get the first glimpse of their partner. What they weren't prepared for however, was the fact that every student would be blindfolded and lead into a long aisle with countless eggs, waiting to be chosen. Here the students were told to use their heart and intuition rather than their knowledge to pick their partner.
Astrid had almost burst from the excitement as the soft cloth had been placed over her eyes and gentle hands moved her slowly but steadily down the aisle.
One after one she touched the eggs, picked them up, listened to them, and to her heart. It had felt like several days had passed when she finally stopped. The warm, smooth surface beneath her fingers seemed to almost pulse at her touch, it was magical, to feel the eggs without seeing them. She had run her fingers down it, felt every little change in the smoothness, and found, that she was getting chills down her spine, this was it, this was her partner.
Xiphos turned out to be a Pawniard, a healthy little male, painfully unaware of just how sharp he was.
Astrid cared little about minor cuts though. She had cared for the egg while it incubated, and she cared even greater for her partner after it was hatched.
Some of the other pupils teased Astrid a little. A Dark type seemed out of place in an academy promoting a noble way of being, but Astrid was sure Xiphos fit in perfectly. Pawniards she knew, were fiercely loyal to the leading Bisharp in nature, and since there were no Bisharp around for Xiphos to devote himself to, he turned to Astrid instead, showering her with loyalty from an early age.
Astrid also knew, that while Dark types didn't always fight as cleanly as fighting types, they were rather good at using their minds to come up with creative solutions, something Astrid herself lacked.
The last year of the academy, was without doubt the most exciting. The young knights got to take care of their partners, and groom them into Paladins like themselves. They taught the pokémon what they knew, and then tested them in competitive battles against each other.
Astrid was never the top fighter, but she did alright for herself, and she knew Xiphos worked hard, that was all that mattered.
Time flew by quickly this was final year at the academy, and before she knew of it, Astrid was graduating.
She was given her own set of armour, made to protect her against as many types of pokémon as possible. she got a personal shield, decorated like the helmet of a Pawniard, and lastly she got a sword. This she was told to never use against another. Only as a last resort were she to raise her blade against someone.
Astrid was overwhelmed with all this, but she was also thrilled, as she knew which part came next.
Newly graduated Paladins were still too fresh she knew, and they were sent to adventure around the world to train themselves and gain a more practical education. Their journey could take as long as needed be, but in the end the Paladin would come back to the academy and receive the right to join a Paladin unit to protect humanity.
Personality:
Having spent 6 years of her life at the Paladin academy, Astrid's personality has been shapen up to be that of a trustworthy paladin.
While she was an unruly and active child before she entered, the academy has worked wonders and transformed her into quite the young lady.
Drawing inspiration most times from her father, Astrid prides herself with being able to keep calm in most situations, she is not one to easily panic or be distracted.
Astrid could easily be seen as a stick in the mud, and most of the time this is also the truth. She will always uphold a promise to the best of her abilities, and she will try her best not to lie and to fulfill her duties as she has been taught at the academy. Astrid often helps people in need as she sees it as her duty, even if it is with small things, entirely unrelated to what is expected of Pokémon Paladins.
Some of her youthful recklessness has stuck with her however, and while she is a dutiful individual, she is often a little too forceful or brash when helping people.
She has a hard time being declined when offering her help, as she will most likely see it as being told she is insufficient.
Astrid is a confident young woman, and she knows right from wrong, at least she wholeheartedly believes so, and will often be too quick to dismiss other people. This is because Astrid will almost always go by the book. She has been taught many rules about how to handle many things, and these rules stick with her, sometimes a little too well.
The same thing can be said about the way she does battle. Astrid has been taught many theories, but she has yet to gain experience with them, so she will often just stick to what she has been taught. This is luckily somewhat made up for by Xiphos who has a less traditional way of fighting.
Astrid is of course also a young lady, and while she almost always seem like a confident stick in the mud, she will often turn out to be much more shy if she has no rules to stick to. She is not comfortable with new situations and it is one of the few things that can break her composure.
Astrid still have many romantic notions left about the world, and she has confidense that they can be applied everything. She is usually not too good at viewing the world in greyscale and will rather be concerned with good and evil. That being said, she knows that sometimes people or pokémon do bad things even though they didn't mean to. This is especially applied to pokémon.
#1: Always protect those in need, be it Pokémon or human.
#2: Never do unnecessary harm.
#3: Never go back on your word.
#4: Never shame yourself.
Info:
The Pokémon Paladins are an organization focusing on protecting humanity, not only against natural causes, but also against stampeding and raging pokémon. They do so trying to harm the pokémon as little as possible, and unlike most trainers, they are taught how to fight pokémon themselves. Standard Paladin armour is resistant against many Pokémon types and made to take blows should the shield fail. It is still armour however, and cannot withstand everything. Paladins assigned to different areas sometimes receive specialized armour and shields. A paladin patrolling a tundra would get armour focused on resistance against cold and water and so on.
The paladins are initially educated at an academy at age 10 to 16, and then sent out into the world to hone their skills. Once they feel they've gained enough experience they return to the academy where they're tested and finally assigned to an area should they pass. A Paladin always strive to uphold her or her code of honour, even when journeying.
Astrid has a Pawniard pre-starter, and will not be going to the ranger station

He is fiercely loyal to her, and reguards her kind of like his mother. Xiphos has been trained like all Pokémon at the Paladin Academy to uphold the codes the paladin themselves take. This doesn't mean that he doesn't fight dirty however. Astrid knows that tricks can sometimes save a life where more honourable fighting styles cannot and she has allowed Xiphos to do as he finds natural. Xiphos is a very determined Pokémon , and like his owner he has a hard time knowing when to give up. He also likes to pick fights, both in order to train himself and for fun.
Xiphos is used to many other pokémon being around and while he does pick fights, he knows how to do teamwork and get along with others.
