They help you out, whether you keep losing or not! They won't leave you alone to fend for yourself!" Those were the words Tristan overheard two children talk when he walked around town. He shrugged off their comment like it was nothing. Yet, he was still quite fixated on what they said. The thought about something like Ace Academy stuck to him like glue. Why couldn't he stop thinking about? He needed closure soon, so he decided to walk up to headquarters.
As he arrived, his mind began to play flashbacks in his mind, pictures clear like a movie. He remembered the family dojo, with his brothers and father training him. He remembered the the sparring matches that he lost. Every time he got kicked, punched, and thrown all over the place by his brothers. They said they would always help him. Yet, sometime later he got stronger on his own.
Tristan looked up, wondering what would he get out of this. What could he contribute? He didn't really have a reason to join. So why did he come here? Its not like he'll be entering through the door any time soon.
And suddenly, he entered through the door into the headquarters, wondering what he should expect out of this. "Hello? Is this Ace Academy? What is this place...about?" |

He saw a familiar face come in and he immediately got up from his seat to introduce himself, or rather reacquaint himself since he already knew the guy. "Hey Tristan. Welcome to Ace Academy. Hope you enjoy it here." He said to Tristan before he realized he should probably be more formal as the guy probably knew nothing about the organization.
"Well, as you can see to our left our mission statement is simple... We are here to curtail corruption that occurs in Cheyenne. But we do it in a different method, we want to train trainers and make them see our side of the story. We want them to know that winning is not everything, as one can always lose the battle but win the war. We are here to welcome everyone, and make everyone a part of the future of Cheyenne." He said to Tristan, giving him an idea of Ace Academy before he paused and waited to see how the trainer would reply.
"So... Do you have any questions? Or anything you wish to know? Are you ready to join the organization and help protect Cheyenne from chaos. Are you here to maintain order, and help people of the future keep the order?" He asked.
Ace Academy's mission was simple. Be welcoming, encourage good work ethics, and make people know that winning is not everything. That the bond between a trainer and his or her pokemon is much more important than the level or strength of that pokemon.

What was it about this place that drew him in? How was he able to draw a connection to his own life so well? He pulled his hood down, feeling the need for open space and fresh air. As he continued into thought, he was suddenly approached by someone familiar. "Oh uh.....Hey Sam." He said, sounding somewhat disconnected about this whole thing. Normally, he'd be much more chill and attentive about other people. Maybe he was getting lazier.
He quickly flashed back to reality and watched Sam as he began to explain the purpose of the organization. It sounded like something out of his own family dojo. He remembered getting help, but he didn't remember ever needing help. He looked back at Sam, still a little disconcerted about this whole place. "W-well.....what if...some people didn't need any help? What if winning was a way of telling a person of improvements....? And.....I-I'm not sure about joining. enlighten me a little." He suddenly started to draw a better connection about the whole situation. He didn't remember getting help because he didn't get as much. He remembered getting stronger in fighting on his own. He remembered needing to win.
He continued to go into thought, looking confused to Sam. |

The ideology that Tristan had was more closely related to Team Death than with Ace, but unlike the other organization his was open to all views and open to all participants. He heard Tristan speak and nodded while he raised his points. He did not really agree with his method but he wouldn't really force Ace's mentality on him, that wasn't their motto so he would not go about doing that. In some ways he also held Ace's view, at least he did when he first came to Cheyenne. He felt with all the years in the academy, results were all that mattered because he was better trained than others so he should have been a better trainer.
Since he's been here, a lot has changed and he has learned to accept losses and move on. He had been defeated against a few gym leaders and contest leaders, just to come back stronger and more prepared from the experience of the battle. And because of that, he came back victorious and thus has grown as a trainer. He did not wish to force those views on Tristan so instead he shrugged and gave him his side.
"Honestly, we do not agree with that as we feel everyone deserves an equal opportunity. We feel that people who lose can also improve, as they learn from their mistakes and can grow stronger from it. In battles, there is always a winner and a loser. The one who loses should not feel ashamed as he probably improved just as much as the winner after the outcome." He said to Tristan.
He then shrugged again as he decided to not try and change the breeder. "But, Ace accepts anyone. We will welcome you even though your views are different. We don't alienate people based on their ideology. We believe in equality, that everyone deserves a shot." He said to Tristan.
[OOC]: I think you should stay neutral for the time being. I think Tristan is a very interesting character for a possible TD vs Ace thing where we try to recruit people and have them choose. As his ideology does fit very well with TD. So you can definitely be one of those...

OOC: which could mean that joining can provide an even more interesting TD vs Ace thing. Lets give it a shot. And he's not completely TD either. [atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, width: 410px; background-color: #BFE3FE; border: 1px dashed #9abccd, bTable][cs=2]dreams that reach the sky | | [atrb=style, font-family: Tahoma; word-spacing: 1px; text-align: justify; background: white; border: 1px dashed #9abccd; color: 2f405e; padding: 10px]Tristan continued to listen, pulling his hood down as he looked around. He was a little dazed and confused as to why he originally walked in there. His thoughts wandered as his brain began to process everything Sam said. It really began to remind him of his own dojo and how his brothers were there to help. Yet, they were also the ones who said that winning was a way of telling one's improvement. They never really did explain defeat. Everything became much clearer now as to why he was in there.
"Yes, that's true....but.....but what about winning and striving to win? Isn't that something everything should go on their own? What if the person just wants to improve? What about that? What does defeat give you other than a face full of floor?!" He said out loud, drawing the connection from the time in his dojo to here. He remembered that saying from his brothers, and yet, his father smiled a bit after each of his own battles. His father, the one who kicked him out of the door to start the journey, was the one who explained of this something similar.
".....*sigh* listen, I'm sorry to waste your time like that....." He paused a bit, considering whether he should join or not. "...but I think I'd be willing to help as well. I'm willing to join...well, at least give it a chance." |

Winning was very important as winning was an easy way to show that one was improving. Sure, losing can have it's benefits as one gains experience, but one doesn't really see end results until they win. Their pokemon could be as strong as Jay's of Sam's but if they still can't beat the first gym, it doesn't mean much. Tristan raised very good points that Sam agreed with, so he would not really deny that.
But he wanted Tristan to see the other side. "I agree. Winning is very important. But losing helps you learn about your pokemon and bond with them more. It is naturally human for us to want to win. But accepting a loss as a learning experience is very rewarding also." He said to Tristan before he stopped.
"If you still want to join, you can. You just have to sign your name on the book." He said to Tristan. He felt to go with a different approach for this kid, as words won't get through to him, it seemed. "And you can learn from experience what Ace is about... I think this would be best for you." He said to Tristan.

Yet, he could remember losing a lot to his brothers, not remembering whether he improved or not. "Ya.....that's the case of what people tell you. Especially with people who are better than you." He said, responding to Sam's words. He can't remember how many sparring matches he lost until he actually beat one of them. The only thing he could remember was the need to win due to the need to improve. It was hard winning consistently, especially when compared to his brothers. The question is did he want to go through it again? Relive the words that he was told?
He was suddenly redirected to the book. At first, he was hesitant about signing it. Then suddenly, he just decided to sign it, unsure of what to do. "Your words, Sam. They're familiar. I heard them all the time and I've wondered whether they were empty words of those on the top or not....you better help me clear this up." He may as well go for it. What else did he have to lose? |
