There was no reason for him to be nervous. Soren had just one the small contest versus that kid with the purrloin. He had come out the victor, racking up the most points and praise from the coordinator leaders that had been watching them. So why was his whole body tense, his skin prickling and sweating as he walked onto the dreaded stage again? Anthony was this obstacle that he never could beat, and even though he had been rewarded with the ribbon, the trainer did not feel as if he had earned it.
He wanted to win against Anthony, head on, and this determination should have given him confidence if not for the simple thought of the Voltorb making him sick to his stomach.
Third time was the charm. That was the expression he heard the humans speak of quite often, so hopefully it was right. He could only use three Pokémon for this battle and Soren wanted to make the most of it. Sora was going to go first. He had so much confidence in the pidgey and wanted to start off big.
Soren closed his eyes, trying to ground himself. In his coordinator outfit, hood over his head, he felt safe and protected. He could do this. He was going to do this. The spotlight shone over him, introducing him as the challenger and he saw read through his eyelids, the light almost painfully bright. He opened his eyes, though couldn't adjust them fast enough. Fumbling for his pokeball, he released Sora. Here goes nothing.
The pidgey came out, spreading his wings and showing off his new scarf, which had been tied around a leg. Sora flew around his trainer a few times in wide circles, creating a small wind flow that showed off his trainer as well. The white fabric was light, fluttering and rising with every pass, the trainer's hair contrasting against, when the pidgey flew close enough to take off Soren's hood and landing on an extended arm. Once Soar stopped flying, the fabric also settled down until it hung loosely over the trainer's frame.
Soren stared at Anthony, doing his best to zone out the crowd. Focus. There was no reason for him to be nervous.

Anthony had heard that there was a challenger was coming along, so he had to make sure all three of his top spot Pokemon were in the best condition they could be in. This meant going to the dollar store and buying whatever cheap crap he could afford in his pre-teen budget. Of course, most of it was simply accessories for himself as he smirked in his dressing room, snapping his fingers for his lovely assistants to work on his Pokemon faster.
He made sure that he used the cheapest nail clippers to trim Flash's nails, spit on the Nincada's shell and rubbed it in with a towel to give it a shine, and used water drops in the ground type's eyes to make sure he could see with the best eyes ever. With a proud grin, Anthony emerged with a ton of silly bands decorating his arms in a rainbow of colors. Hair was slicked up with hair gel, while he had cheap cologne that followed his every movement. Ax body spray was supposed to attract the ladies, after all.
"Flash and Anthony! The super fast duo! The pair that has no cares! And you, foolish challenger! Slow as a Slowpoke, low as a Diglett...dares challenge me?!" Anthony boasted while puffing out his chest, laughing obnoxiously at the sight of Soren and his mere Pidgey as Flash's mouth twitched. He was alive at least, but he wasn't going to show off his speed just yet. He preferred to surprise his foes, which he was going to do as soon as their appeals started.

r o u n d . o n e challenge { use the sandy stage to your advantage }
Soren grit his teeth, trying not to react to the Contest leader's jeers. They were all just to mess him up and et him off his game. He had to concentrate on the contest and think about Sora. The pidgey on his arm waited for the first command, the feathers on his head raised up proudly, almost haughty. He wouldn't be able to do this later on, once the battle started, so this was when he had to show off as much as possible.
"Sora, Storm," Soren called, wanting to start strong. It was one of Sora's more impressive moves and it would be sure to wow the crowd. The trainer lauched his pokemon into the air, the pokemon taking off and flying around the stage. The pidgey was familiar with the nincada. He had gone against him before so Sora knew how this was going to go. Everything was going to be fine.
The pokemon swooped a bit lower, closer to the stage, before using a powerful gust. Sora aimed the attack not at the nincada, but at the sandy stage around the pokemon. The wind picked up the sand, lifting the smallest particles into the air, like a temporary sandstorm. Sora flew around the storm, containing it the best he could.
Soren wasn't sure how much damage it would deal, but he learned from his past contests that damage wasn't always the ultimate goal, in these battles. It was about beauty and grace and he hoped that this would highlight Sora's control while making it harder to see the nincada's appeal.

As the Pidgey's gentle looking wings carried it through the air, it was surprisingly able to pick up a lot of the sand on the ground to carry it into the air. It started to swirl around his precious Flash, practically concealing it from the audience and making the Pidgey stand out in the process. How cheap! He could tell that Flash was taking damage from it too, despite how he was naturally built for the sand. With a cough, Anthony boldly faced the crowd and waved his arms to call attention to his audience. After all, contests weren't all about grace and art. Oh no, it was a show in the end, and ultimately he was an entertainer!
"Man, we sure do have problems with sand tornadoes combusting out of nowhere lately. I feel bad for whoever is gonna clean that up." Anthony scoffed as the sand was having trouble being contained, some sprinkling in his face and making him wince. "We might need to hire about...1 janitor! Or maybe even 2!" He explained with a somewhat regretful look, but with a grin towards Flash he pointed at the bug type. "But why go through that crap when we have a super hero on our hands! Flash! Transform!" He cackled, pointing at Flash as the bug's shell began to brighten, making it reflect rays of light from the ceiling lights. The Harden made the Nincada stand out for sure, as if he was suddenly evolving into something else as he let out a wild cry.
"I only wish our opponent didn't look like Batman, I feel like we're the villains here!" Anthony commented on the side, giving Soren an encouraging smile as he rested his hands on his hips, striking a heroic pose as Flash got to work. "Emerge from the vortex of darkness! The realm of sand is what gives birth to the heroes of heroes! What am I fighting for? Flash, tell me!" Anthony cried louder and louder, raising a finger to the vortex as suddenly a blast of air with nothing but fine powders sparkling around them made Flash emerge right over the sand vortex.
<I have come to save you all! Until I give up, I will boldly stand forward and hope I don't take too much damage...!> The Nincada said in a surprisingly hesitant way despite the dramatic and demanding tone of voice as the Silver Wind started to cover the sand, making it have an additional layer to make it more complicated. Then the Nincada fell on the ground, twitching as he landed on his back. The audience laughed as they didn't see that one coming, clapping a little as the Nincada rocked back and forth in a pained struggle to get back up. Even Anthony was chucking, "It appears that our hero had too much of an ego and forgot he couldn't fly." he commented, not caring too much for grace after that hell of an appeal.

r o u n d . t w o challenge { none }
Soren wasn't sure how to react to Anthony's taunts. He was obviously trying to shake him off his game, but he couldn't let that happen. All of his focus was on his pokemon, as if he couldn't hear anything the contest leader was saying. Grace, Beauty, Perfection. That is what he was trying to achieve and he couldn't allow this clown to stop him. The comments did get to him, making him frown a little bit even though he was willing his expression to stay neutral.
"Bloom!"
All of his move combinations were tailored to maximize his pokemon's beauty. There was no room for comedy, even though the crowd did seem to enjoy it. Should he change his game plan? Should he try to mimic the contest leader's choices? No. Soren had come prepared and he was certain that, at the end of the day, the judges would appreciate his pokemon's beauty over the nincada's clumsiness.
Sora had been flying too close to the sandstorm and hadn't realized how fast the silver wind came at him. The attack hit him mid flight, destabilizing him a bit. The recovery was less than graceful but he managed not to fall, natural instinct helping him find which side was up.
At the command, the pidgey flew toward the ceiling, finding the center of the stage before using a captivate, hearts trailing behind him as he moved gracefully across the stage. Spiralling down, the captivate transitioned into a Return, the hearts pulsing outward, all around him in concentric rings. If he was lucky, some of it would hit the nincada as well, but the ultimate goal was to get the crowd's attention on Sora.

"One word wonder, he really is Batman." Anthony commented mostly to himself at the way Soren worded his commands, finding it rather funny and odd. Where was the fun? The life? The communication between trainer and Pokemon? It felt oddly distant to him, and he wasn't sure how much he liked that. He couldn't see his own team as being anything but his buddies, the ones that joked around with him and enjoyed entertaining others more than anything.
The sandstorm luckily settled down, sand and sparkly bug powder raining down on the Nincada as he flipped himself upright while the Pidgey confidently soared over head, as if he was the very cloud that caused it. The Nincada breathed heavily, nervous at what the Pidgey was doing as he used a majestic Captivate and Return, using a colorful appeal that made him seem so loving.
The hearts smacked into his face, making him cringe as Anthony looked up and glared at the Pidgey for making the super hero look like a fool. The hero was never supposed to take hits! "Bullets of love, raining from the sky! Don't fall for it Flash! Ruuuun Flash, ruuuun!" He ordered, making the Nincada panic as he started to quickly side step from side to side on the ground, moving in such a way that the sand from behind him was kicked up like a wave of water.
It was shoved up and rolled down with each twitchy movement, and suddenly the Nincada used his claws and swirled it around him, making it appear that the sand was a pillar that propelled him up. If anything it was his strong cricket like legs propelling him so high up, but oh well, dramatic effects like what you saw out of the comic books always impressed the crowd. "Boom! Headshot!" Anthony cried, as Flash's claws suddenly turned bright with energy as he began to fall, determined to strike his sand pile before it fell down. He was going fast---very fast! Smashing into the sand with a noble claw forward, it split instantly and spread out with a gentle wave across the ground before settling down. While the Pidgey commanded the skies, the Nincada dominated the ground.

r o u n d . t h r e e challenge { use a priority move }
Anthony was never this annoying, Soren thought. Perhaps that trip the coordinators took that closed down all of the contest halls had loosened him up a bit. He certainly acted like some of the soldiers after a bit too much fun in a foreign village.
But he didn't need any fancy communication to understand his Pokémon. To him, it was natural instinct, stemming from his hollow bones and flowing through his veins. The connection was more than verbal and much more physical, understanding one's emotions through body language.
For this contest leader, it was all about comedy and fun, it seemed, while still managing to pull off some impressive moves. The nincada was doing a fine job of keeping everyone entertained with sandy structures that did not look bad at all while the pidgey roamed the sky. The wave of sand looked quite terrifying and certainly made it harder to see, but Sora's keen eyes kept her vision clear. The nincada was still more than visible, even with the blanket of sand tumbling across the stage.
"Swift!" Soren called out, the command misleading for most but perfectly clear for his Pokémon.
Before the sand could fall to the ground again, Sora used a quick attack, keeping his body low to the ground, so close his claws could probably reach down and touch the stage floor. He pierced through the sandy waves like a feathered bullet, aiming straight for the nincada and doing his best to ignore the pain of the sand scratching against his skin and getting between his feathers. Still, he flew, hoping to come into contact with the nincada with his speedy move.

Contest Leader Anthony ! { ROUND 3 challenge: - utilize the sandy stage to your advantage }
Anthony was rather tired from being stolen away on that trip. This was one of the first battles he'd had since returning to Ile Electrique, and he was making the most of it, especially since he had a new goal to appeal to the crowd. It definitely fit his hyperactive style of battling.
Flash was bracing himself for the attack, but the kid contest leader had other plans. So the pidgey wanted to be fast? Well, he wouldn't let that happen! He was the speed champ! "Evil shall not prevail! Even Earth shall shield us from this menace!" He spoke so fast that some of his words melted together, but his experienced pokemon managed to perceive what he was talking about.
Just before the Pidgey's lightning fast Quick Attack hit, he leapt backwards and utilized his Harden attack in a surprise fashion. Focusing on the sand around him, he hardened a layer of it and held it in front of him with both claws to block Sora's attack. It was so solidly packed that it reflected the overhead lights, causing some audience members to wince and shield their eyes.

r o u n d . f o u r challenge { none }
Sora wasn't too sure what hit him. He had been certain that the nincada was right there and his aim wasn't that bad, but then all of a sudden it was as if he hit a brick wall. His brittle bones managed to withstand the hit, something that couldn't be said for the nincada's hardened cover, but it dishevelled him quite a bit.
His trainer was worried. The moment he saw the hardened sand, an unnatural squawk - definitely a sound a bird would make, rather than a human - came from his throat, trying to warn his Pokémon. It had been too late, though, and he saw Sora fly into the hardened shell. He felt the hit in his own bones, wincing at the impact and forgetting for a while that he had to keep his composure and not let anything affect him. Fear, concern, and compassion was painted over his face as he wondered if his Pokémon was going to be alright.
Rattled, the bird Pokémon was forced to land on the ground for a bit to regain his composure. The pidgey took a few seconds to make sure he could still fly before extending his wings out, using a captivate to make himself look more resplendent. Sora was in quite a bit of pain and wasn't sure if he was up for any flying just yet but he was going to make his trainer proud. The pidgey gave the nincada a dirty glare before chirping, reminding Soren that they still had to finish this.
Steeling himself, Soren took a deep breath, trying to assess the situation. his Pokémon seemed to be grounded for the time being and so he had to be more careful. This was the nincada's territory and he had to use his moves right. He did not want to use uproar just yet, as once Sora started it was terribly hard to get the Pokémon to calm down. He had wanted his Pokémon to show off some more flying, but that was out of the question. Instead, they were going to go for a full-frontal attack. If he was lucky, he could force a KO onto the other trainer, which would surely be to his advantage.
"Attack! " he called out, no real specifications needed. Sora knew what his master asked of him and was more than willing to deliver. It would be a rougher move without his previous grace, but it would still pack a punch. Facing his foe, the pidgey hopped once, twice, and then took off, staying low to the ground as he went in using an Aerial Ace, determined not to let the nincada pull the same trick again.

The Pidgey flew around with a slightly battered expression from Flash's amazing tricks. Not everyone could stand up to a random harden in the middle of the battle! Twitching and panting from nervousness as he had to keep looking up to see where the Pidgey was flying, the Nincada felt ready to collapse when suddenly the Pidgey went in whoopass mode and barreled into him, making him have an ungrateful fainting scene as he landed on his back, hind legs twitching.
Anthony blinked at the sight--already?! No! Not Flash! Not his main star, the apple of his eye! He ruffled his hands through his hair as he stomped wildly for a few moments, completely furious that the bug had fainted. "N-Not Flassssh." He finally calmed down and whined, going through mood changes much faster than one would expect. He returned the Nincada with a grumble, realizing how this would dampen his appeal scores for the future. How ungraceful!
"I guess I know who to rely on to clip those wings!" Trying to regain his normal show attitude, he threw out the Voltorb's Pokeball as she appeared before him, looking as if she was rather well polished. He could see his own reflection in her shiny red top, making his face look distorted from his own point of view. She seemed to have a bit of a confident smirk on her face at the sight of the bird, letting off a bit of static that snapped on her body for a bit of a radiating effect.
"Center stage! Front and center! Ignore Batman, he'll only glare at you!" Anthony instructed, waving his arm excitedly at Soren in reference to him as Light grinned and spun into the main center of the stage. She made her mark in the sand as a straight line trailed behind her, keeping the Pidgey in her view the entire time.
"Charge it!" He exclaimed, hopping up like a rabbit as his odd hair piece sprang up like bunny ears. The Voltorb let out a hasty cry as she built up electricity, letting it show as they crackled and popped out of her body. It was a mix of blues and yellows; mini fireworks coming to life as they reflected on her ruby red top. It started to build a little higher as she changed the shape of her charge to look more like a pillar, some of the stay sparks flying around as if it was a pillar of water spraying down below her.

r o u n d . f i v e challenge { none }
Soren felt chills run down his spine when he saw the voltorb again. That Pokémon was certainly the bane of is existence. Every time he saw it, he would feel himself freezing up and being almost unable to give his commands. Every fibre in his being told him that it was over, that he should run. This time, he had to man up and steel himself. He was not going to let this electric type stop him. He wasn't going to -- Electricity filled the air and Soren felt positively sick to his stomach. Nothing felt right and why was he letting Sora still fly in these conditions? He had one more round to go, though, and he had to persevere.
The pillar of sparks was definitely a move flying types would dread. Sora kept himself grounded, still recovering from the previous attack, but felt the shocks regardless. The pidgey was not about to back down, though, and he wouldn't let this stop him. He flew back into the air, making sure to keep his distance. Unfortunately, that pushed him outside the ring, out of focus with the audience. Even so, a few stray sparks of electricity would still make him jolt as it hit his tender flesh. Even at that height, Sora felt his trainer's worries and concerns. He let out a high-pitched chirp. There was one last round for them and they were going to pull through. After that, it would be the rest of his team's duty.
"Shards!"
The command finally came, the voice faint and unsteady. At least it was the same attack that he had rehearsed with his trainer -- the pidgey took comfort in the familiarity, knowing that they had played and replayed these combinations countless times. He would have to come closer to the centre of the stage for maximum visual effect, though. The winds were favourable and if he was careful, it should be fine. The flying type turned toward centre stage, toward the pillar, and used a captivate. The hearts spread out, into the air. The charge attack's static electricity leaped from the pillar to the small red objects fluttering in the sky, creating tiny arcs of lighting. Without coming in too close, Sora used an uproar, bellowing as loud as his lungs would allow it, not quite the most melodious tune but nothing ear-shattering. The noise was enough to shatter the captivating hearts, making them burst into shards that rained down on the stage. As his final appeal came to an end, Sora did one last lap around the stage, though his feathers were not quite as nice as it was when he first flew.
Soren couldn't help but look at his Pokémon fly. He could see the signs of fatigue and pain but Sora did his best to mask it. The pidgey came closer and closer to him before he extended his arm out and allowed his Pokémon to finally rest.
The trainer returned his Pokémon before picking out the next one. His hands were clammy and unsteady. He threw the pokeball into the air and out came Flynn. The starly fluttered out, his flying style vastly different than Sora's. While the pidgey had more aggressive and technical flying, Flynn was much more carefree and relaxing, as if he was floating on a cloud. He too had a scarf, tied around his beck to contrast against his darker feathers. The cloth was light, the Pokémon barely feeling it as he flew. The starly landed on Soren's arm and took a look at the field. The charge pillar was starting to subdue a bit but the energy was enough for Flynn to worry a bit. He had never seen anything like that and wasn't quite sure how to deal with it.
Soren stroked his pokemon's wing once with the back of his hand, making sure Flynn knew that he believed in him and trusted him, before launching the bird into the air. Flynn extended his wings, two-tones feathers splaying out on either sides as he readied himself. This wasn't going to be easy, but he could do it, right?

Anthony looked up in some awe as Sora's newest appeal involving Captivate and Round, though he had to admit, the usage of hearts had him wanting more. Like it wasn't enough. Then again, he wasn't expecting perfection around here. Everyone was new at this when they challenged him, and it was up to him to show them how a real contest was supposed to be. The irony might not be noticed by Anthony, but someone probably will get it.
When the Pidgey was returned and another bird was sent out, Anthony couldn't help but sigh. This was going to be tough, that was for sure. The Starly probably had Quick Attack, which meant that they'd be able to appeal to the max mission wise. He frowned at that, scratching at his head as the carefree bird flew about, leaving Light on the ground watching with the charge completely fading back into her body.
"Ladies and gentleman, I'm proud to announce the newest addiction to the Apple collection. Even more perfect than an Ipone, even cooler than a hologram, I bring you...the Death Star!" Anthony said in a dark cackle, bringing some interest into the crowd while others rolled their eyes at his attempts at drama. "321BLASTOFF." He said quickly, pointing at the sky and hardly understandable as Flash quickly sprang into the air up above him.
Whoa...how high was she going! Straight off into the lights, Light was in her area as she was somewhat hard to see until she began to lower herself. It was almost as if she had disappeared under the cloak of light until her Magnet Rise held her at a reasonable level, smirking at the Starly as she prepared to match the bird in their game of flight.

The charge had finally faded and the skies were not clear once more, allowing Flynn to fly safely over the crowd to show himself off, the yellow scarf trailing behind him as he soared, wings spread out wide as he let out a small trill, letting out a small melody while the contest leader was speaking. The starly would like to believe that he was acting calm and collected and fabulous, the voltorb shooting into the air. The pokemon was flustered at the sight of this thing in the sky without any wings was not something he expected to see.
It certainly succeeded in attracting the attention of the crowd as their eyes shifted from his pokemon to that electric monstrosity. Now that the pokemon was in the air, it would be able to get much closer to Flynn. Soren's first priority was to make sure that his pokemon was safe and will be able to withstand any attack from the Voltorb. Anthony had used up most of his challenges and could now focus on the actual battle. Flynn did not have the same luxury.
"Dance!" he called out, using a move that would benefit them in the long run. His heart was racing as he craned his neck to watch the two pokemon in the sky. He would be the one to come out victorious. It was his element, his domain, and he wanted to own it.
Flynn was still trying to recover when the command came. He buckled down and allowed himself to just fly. He went around the voltorb, flying circles that became gradually tighter as he tentatively got closer. His approach was a bit slow, taking a few more loops than he should have, but once he started to use Featherdance, the dark-coloured downy feathers started to dance behind him, flying all over the place, slowly concentrating themselves on the voltorb. Hopefully it would soften any physical blows the pokemon decides to use against the starly while tainting the voltorb's appearance.
Flynn continued to circle the pokemon for one last turn, keen eyes looking for a way in. Only when he got close enough did he switch to a Wing Attack, hoping to fly by close enough to knock the voltorb with his wings before retreating again.

She started to get covered up and began to look a bit uglier which the contest leader did not really appreciate because he took good care of his Pokémon and liked to groom them. Light was then struck with the wings of the Starly and showed a real irritation in her expression after the attack hit. She did not appreciate the covering of the feather dance and simply felt awkward with it surrounding her body. Anthony had to think quickly or else he might just lose Light as she normally was the calmer one but just did not feel that way right now. She wasn't in the mood to tease or flirt and didn't really act like herself at all. The impatient blond, too hyped to control himself quickly began to bite his scarf as he called out his order to the Voltorb. "Explosion!" He said and Light quickly nodded her head as she began to glow brightly and blind the spectators. And instantaneously, a large boom was heard which shifted all the sand towards Flynn as Light fell from her high surface onto the ground, unable to battle anymore. "How was that?!" Anthony mused before he sent out his final Pokémon. He threw a final pokeball onto the field but nothing came out. Or at least it looked like nothing came out since the sneaky Diglett veiled himself well in the sandy arena. "Lets put an end to this now!" Anthony laughed. r o u n d . t w o challenge { none }
Soren had never felt so weak and helpless. The two pokemon had been high in the air, circling each other as they waited for the next attack.
The voltorb had never used explosion before.
Soren hadn't been aware that he had to even worry about it.
The trainer watched his pokemon fall to the ground, lifeless. The voltorb had fainted for sure, but the starly wasn't doing much better. The featherdance had softened the blow, but the attack had been so strong the halfling didn't know what to think. He could only stare in horror as his pokemon landed onto the dusty ground while scrambling for his pokeball. It was not about the contest, anymore. It was about making sure his pokemon was all right and cared for.
Just as he was about to summon the starly back, the pokemon started to twitch and slowly get up, his frail legs shaking uncertainly. He was still conscious, though a bit disoriented, and he loked quite dishevelled. "Heal!" Soren commanded, asking his pokemon to take a break, to gather up his strength again. The flying type seemed relieved at the command and settled onto the ground, like a sitting duck in the center of quite a large barren field. Flynn groomed himself a bit, soothing his wounds and making himself look a bit more presentable as he waited.
This would sacrifice a turn and would not look good to the judges, but Soren couldn't care less. His pokemon was all right, and that was all that mattered. The coordinator took a deep breath and tried to get himself back into the right headspace. Anthony was down to his last pokemon. Though it seemed the field was empty, Soren had watched and participated in enough of these appeals to know what he was up against. Unless Anthony really changed his lineup, it would be a diglett he would have to worry about. It wasn't going to be too much trouble, hopefully.

Anthony grinned at the Starly's attempts to heal itself for this turn, which ended up being successful. However, this was a contest. The bird looked pretty bad, after all, what was cool about watching a bath or a grooming session? It wasn't very flattering until you were sparkly clean. Thun was still hiding underground with confidence as he dug closer towards the Starly with a mischievous snicker.
The Diglett suddenly popped his head out of the ground, revealing himself as he started to dig circles around the Starly, as if mocking it. With a small snicker, he started to send waves of sand after the bird to soil its feathers, before retreating back to its near perfect circle mark on the ground. He kept digging in the same lines, over and over, making patterns for the audience to take in as he continued to abuse his foe with sand.
Sure, the Starly could've had the Keen Eyes ability, however dirty feathers were dirty feathers. So much for looking pretty and clean during this performance. Anthony laughed as he crossed his arms, thinking Thun was being such a bad boy because of this. In all actuality, the Diglett was just a spoiled, manipulative brat.

r o u n d . t h r e e challenge { use a status move offensively }
The starly was grounded for the turn, helping him recover but feeling rather exposed as the diglett was poking up everywhere around him. She tried to keep up, but the diglett's movements were too fast for him. He chirped, trying to get the pokemon to finally attack, before feeling the sand on her feathers. The dirt wasn't doing anything good to him, even though his keen eye allowed Flynn to keep his accuracy.
"Fly," called Soren, asking his starly to fly into the air right away. He had to get away from the diglett, and then somehow finish all of the contest challenges. This would be much harder than he thought -- there was a lot of planning he needed to do, and with all of these uncertainties going on, Soren wasn't sure if he would be able to win the contest battle. "Dance!" he called again, before whistling a high-pitched sound, asking for a slight variation on the move. He wasn't too sure how well the attack would work, especially with the diglett easily hiding underground, but hopefully it would pay off.
Once in the air, Flynn looked much nicer. His wings were still dirty and his feathers were quite dirty, but the next move would help him a little bit, hopefully. He flew around once, a small tight circle in order to scout the area before he started to dance. The starly started to fly in more intricate patterns, dropping feathers as he did. At first, the light and fluffy downs started to fall, swaying back and forth on its descent. With one last twirl, Flynn flew down closer to the ground and shook off a few more prominent feathers, shooting them out like quills. If the attack worked, the feathers would deal a bit of damage onto the diglett while helping Flynn get rid of the worse of his feathers. Though he did not look nearly as nice as when he was first out of the pokeball, but hopefully his appeal would look nice enough to make up for the fact.

Anthony smiled in victory when the Starly's appearance was further ruined from the Sand Attack. It wouldn't do anything appeal wise, especially if Soren wanted his Pokemon to shine and sparkle with the show lights bestowed upon them. The Starly was back in the air, a difficult opponent for his ground hugging Diglett to attack. It was all about the appeals though, which he was more than confident about. This contest was almost over anyways, and with a flash of a smile towards the judges he looked for their reactions. They looked interested, but nothing to hint at who they favored. Oh well, it was obviously him!
"Whistle whistle, lassie I'm home." Anthony called to tease Soren for being a whistler, not used to this sort of thing. He was used to battling douches and artistic nut jobs though, and he usually lost. Might as well pick on them if he was bound to lose, since he wasn't exactly known for his maturity in the first place. He had to admit, the Starly looked a bit nicer than before as he flew around in the air. Then the featherdance came, as if cleansing his body as he shed the dirty feathers onto his precious Diglett.
<I am not a chicken!> The Diglett growled in annoyance, trying to shake some of the feathers that stuck on him off. What an irritating thing! He dug quickly underground and started to shake himself in there, trying to make the feathers stick to the earth instead of him. He emerged from a different spot, less feathers on his body, but a little more brown due to the earthy coating. "Scare them like the demon you are! Muahaha!" Anthony cackled, watching as Thun let out an adorable growl to charm the audience. He was like a small kitten on the ground, when suddenly his looks became more devious.
The demon spawn from hell had emerged! Like a shadowy ghost rising out from the Diglett, the ghostly illusion swirled around him as if he was some kind of magic master. It had the purpose of scaring as it flickered around him, attempting to smack the Starly as it twisted into a mangled hand. It wouldn't hurt a bit, but the transition from cute to scary had an appeal of its own.

r o u n d . f o u r challenge { nothing }
r o u n d . o n e challenge { make the audience laugh }
Soren tried to keep count of the turns and everything told him that he did not have the time. Anthony's pokemon using explosion had completely ruined his plan and now he had to scramble, and Soren hated to scramble. In battle, a plan was one's most useful tool, and now that had been taken away from him. With two turns left on the diglett, he had to finish his missions -- the points would be crucial for him to rack up a win. He needed Genta out, even if this was going to cost him a little bit. There was no time to think. He would have to act now. Flynn was not doing well, the astonish not quite doing any damage but definitely putting him on edge.
The coordinator let out a sharp whistle, surprising Flynn who hadn't been expecting it just yet. The starly quickly turned and flew toward his trainer and watched as Soren threw a pokeball high in the air. They had practiced this endlessly with apples and berries, but it was always harder with actual pokeball. The spheres were hard and more difficult to grip and Flynn tried, reaching down with his talons to grab the ball in mid-air, but the metallic sides slipped from his grasp. Soren's whole body tensed up as he tried not to panic. His starly let out a surprised cry before scrambling, flying back and managing to rescue the pokeball before it fell onto the ground once again. The move's execution was abysmal, but at least it had worked. Kind of.
With the pokeball now in his grasp, Flynn flew into back higher into the air, using the last of his energy as he found it harder to breathe, the effects of the battle starting to show. Once he was high enough, the pokeball in his grasp burst open, letting Genta out of his spherical confines and into the sky. The hoothoot's flight was not nearly as nice and graceful as the previous two pokemon, While Flynn winded down to return to Soren's side, Genta bobbed up and down, his small wings almost too small to keep him flying. Glasses, perched on his beak, made his eyes look even bigger than normal while his feathered brows twitched back and forth. Soren hoped that his pokemon's comical attempt of flight would be enough -- he heard a few laughs when Genta somehow twisted his small round-ish body upside down before dropping like a stone. Only when he was close to landing on the battle rink did Genta right himself up again and stood on one feet, large eyes watching the crowd in amusement.

His heart had been pounding from the beginning, and now he was starting to get anxious at the thought of an awesome conclusion. He wasn't one of the best contest leaders by far, but he was still here for a reason. His quickness and sharp intuition was enough to catch anyone off guard as his foot tapped against the ground, eventually snapping from his impatient nature. Nothing interesting had happened at all with Soren's Pokemon! Just a Pokemon change? How boring! Anthony wasn't aware of Soren's attempt of a mission as the Hoothoot was released, snickering from his place as the pudgy bird attempted flight. It didn't appear as graceful and important as the others Soren sent out, only making Anthony feel even more confident about his own appeals. The judges clearly loved and adored him! How could it work out any other way? Thun's Arena Trap wasn't containing these birds, but Anthony didn't mind at all. <Kekeke, you look awfully amused for a newbie!> Thun's voice chattered as he suddenly moved about, going in quickly with his swift zigzag movements. The crowd wasn't as surprised anymore with his Aerial Ace attack, but the Diglett was reckless and he enjoyed the speed of the move. "Sand Attack, get it!" Anthony urged with a rushed sentence, sounding a little whiny at the end. Instead of attacking the Hoothoot directly, the Diglett used the speed from his Aerial Ace to suddenly kick up a Sand Attack when the mole just barely put on the brakes for his attack. That ought to make him look cool!
