Haruka has stayed in excellent shape as he explored and conducted research all around Johto and Kanto. He typically wears blue jeans and black shirt, and in the winter he wears a long white coat with black fur around the collar and hem. He always wears gloves, usually without fingers if the weather is warm.
He is rarely around other people for extended periods of time due to his love of his work, and that he cannot speak, so facial expressions rarely grace his face. His Pokémon know his feelings mostly through his hands, in gestures, drawings, or a simple touch on the head. His hands, the palms deeply lined, are his method of expression, and the way he speaks to the world.
Personality:
He is the kind who actively seeks information for its usefulness. While not crazed with dreams of power, he is none the less one who like to have an advantage, an takes it when he can. However he won’t take an advantage if it will hurt someone else.
But even though he is averse to hurting people, he often manipulates them. As long as no harm will come to them, then it’s alright in his mind. He sees people as complicated puzzles, or mechanisms, that can accomplish things for him, but at the same time he realizes that the happier he makes them, the more willing they will be to do what he wants. Not that he doesn’t care about them, just that he also uses them.
He seeks thrills in the outside world and loves being in nature. When he’s out doing research, he often carves a journey stone to mark where he has been, engraving it with pictures or words about the place. He is most confident in places he sees as sacred, such as anywhere he left a journey stone. He is also confident when he is hidden, and when he is helping someone else.

Background:
Ayase Haruka [Trainer]:
Haruka was afflicted with problems from the beginning. Being born mute, he would always find communicating with people, and later pokémon, to be difficult. From the start of his schooling he was picked on and shunned by the other kids. Tired of being mistreated for his condition, he studied everything he could to excel beyond his classmates to prove himself to them. But this only separated him more from them. He went from being shunned to being bullied physically and emotionally. Frustrated, he decided he needed to learn to defend himself and started studying martial arts.
A year passed and he silently took what they gave him, all the while becoming stronger. Finally he felt confident enough to win against his enemies and he swore revenge.
One day a kid tried to punch him. He caught the wrist, bent it back, and forced him to the ground.
He had won. It had been that simple.
They weren’t a challenge to him. They couldn’t do anything to him. He was smarter, faster, and stronger than anyone else around his age. He didn’t hate them anymore. He didn’t care. They weren’t worth his time.
His anger faded as the months went by. Most people left him alone. As he became more centered and calm, his fighting improved even more and he even started to make a few friends. But he was never very close to any of them because he saw himself as above them, and they all knew he really was.
As years passed, many kids got their own pokémon. Many just had them as pets, but some started on the path to becoming a trainer, some wanted to do contests, others wanted to do something else relating to pokémon. But he never got one. His parents asked if he wanted one, and he said he would have no way to train it, or do anything with it, because he could not speak, and no pokémon he had ever heard of understood sign language or could read.
And he had no real need for a pokémon, other than as a research assistant, for that was quickly becoming his passion.
When he finished school at fifteen, he joined the research lab in new bark town as a research assistant. Most of his time was spent in the field, particularly in the Ruins of Alph.
Tokai [Oshawott]:
Tokai was an Oshawott who had abandoned his trainer. The man had been cruel and had pushed Tokai nearly to the point of death. When he had the chance, he fled.
Stowing away on a boat, he sailed for the Johto region and prayed to never return again.
But his new home was not peaceful for him. Fearing being recaptured, he was often running from trainers who wanted him for their own. From this grew an insatiable desire to learn how to speak.
He lurked around humans, keeping away from their sights. He listened and tried to imitate the sounds they made. But no matter what, he simply couldn’t make the right sounds.
He made his way eventually to the ruins of alph and found the writings on the walls of the ruins. The Unkowns, sensing his desire, found him and taught him how to read the words that they were a part of.
The Meeting:
Haruka found the Oshawott hiding in the ruins and was surprised to find the pokémon writing on paper. Tokai was supprised and frightened Haruka at first, but he was trapped where he was. He wrote on the paper the words “don’t hurt me.” Haruka nodded and asked the pokémon where it came from, and who it was, and how it learned to write. Haruka soon had to return to the research center to grab a notebook to continue the conversation.
The two became friends, though at first their relationship was very tentative, it grew into an unbreakable bond. Tokai helped Haruka communicate with other pokémon and soon enough the Oshawott learned sign language, though it had to be modified somewhat because his hands are not like a humans.
Haruka trained Tokai to battle without instructions from him and they practiced martial arts together, Tokai mostly training for endurance and speed rather than techniques.
The rest:
The two of them were sent out on a field assignment a few years later and encountered a wandering Blitzle. Haruka decided he wanted to capture it. The battle was quickly decided by Tokai, who used his training to evade the Blitzle electric attacks, enduring the physical ones. With the newly captured Blitzle on their side, they completed their research and returned home.
Blitzle was very spirited and resisted Haruka and Tokai at first. It was angry at being caught, and angry at being defeated. Haruka recognized the spirit of competition in the pokémon and played to it. He signed to Tokai to translate for him.
Well if you’re so good on your own, then leave.
For Tokai he added, Make sure she can’t leave.
Following the instruction, Tokai relayed the message, and when Blitzle made a run for it, he easily out maneuvered her. A battle ensued and Tokai once more won.
How do you move like that? the pokémon asked.
Haruka trained me. He is a good trainer. If you want to beat me, let him show you how.
No. Let me go.
When you can beat me.
Blitzle fought on until she could barely move. Haruka let the pokémon heal and rest, then returned her to the ball.
They did this every day for a week. Each time Tokai won, but Blitzle was improving. At last, on the eighth day of this, Blitzle broke through and galloped into the forest.
But she stopped, and looked back. Haruka was smiling at her, and Tokai was too as he rested against a tree. She turned around and slowly came back. She felt good. Felt like she had truly done something. And she knew she was getting stronger.
Can you make me even stronger?
Yes.
Tokai acted as a translator between Haruka and Mizuki during training, and Haruka spent a great deal of time teaching Tokai how to train so his pokémon could become stronger on their own.
A few months later Haruka was sent on an assignment again, this time to the Cheyenne region. Before research could begin, Team Death found him. They saw him as weak because of his condition and managed to beat him down, even with his training, and stole Tokai away. Blitzle had been inside a pokeball in his hotel room and was spared.
So began his journey.

-Starting with Lv. 4 Blitzle
-Skipping Station
-Would like to, eventually, venture into team deaths headquarters to rescue Tokai. Otherwise the Oshawott is probably dead or something like that.
