he was so terribly excited as he walked into the trainer's hall, that his hands were shaking and his spidery fingers were getting a case of the jitters. his first battle against another trainer would be a moment to remember, right? he must write to his mother and tell her all about the events that were going to transpire. he had not specifically requested anyone in particular to spar against, just someone of equal - or thereabouts - power to himself, to keep things fair. all things considered, having a pair of flying types left all kinds of things open to danger: that someone might rock up with an ice, rock or electric type and take them out in one fell swoop was his main fear. but this was for practice, and there was always going to be someone who was better than him, had type advantages against him, right? that was the problem with choosing a specific type - or two, as the case was - to stick with. as much as he loved them, he had to accept that there were going to be penalties. ah, but who knew? perhaps he would be paired with a bug-type trainer, and he would have the upper hand. that would sure be interesting. he held two pokeballs in his hands, starly in the left and rufflet in the right. he had never fought with either, and a little bit of experience would not go astray with these two. they were relatively powerful, but they had to begin to build a rapport with him if he were to go after badges, or even ribbons. actually, especially ribbons. " i want a nice, clean fight," he cautioned to them both, the starly chirping merrily and the rufflet scowling. of course, he meant kirby, because the bird had already shown his dislike of losing in the egg hunt contests, where he had tried to steal eggs from other trainers, or put them off their hunt, or deliberately mislead others. that was not how renae rolled, and he needed to learn that. " take your cues from me, play hard, and have fun!" he said, before sending the two out into the arena. oh, this was going to be interesting: he had no doubt about that.

He was a bit bored on this day as he had not been challenged in some time so he looked at the window to see if there was a room free for him to battle a trainer. When he noticed one sitting by himself, he decided to just check it out at that time and get a battle started. He walked into the room and suddenly noticed two pokemon out, both were aerial types. The two intrigued him somewhat, especially that Rufflet which was a different color from his own. But neither looked big or strong. They looked to be rather new which meant that he had to use his own more inexperienced pokemon to go against them. "I hope you weren't waiting here too long. But we can have a double battle." He said as he took out his two pokemon. Neither were flying, but they would do just fine as he sent out his Growlithe and Totodile to take them out. "You can go first." he was lost in his thoughts as he waited for a challenger, so much so that when one appeared in the door he started suddenly and stood up, speaking too quickly to be properly understood and stuttering slightly. " oh, n-no, no waiting, not really, no," he said, with an awkward grin, trying to make eye contact and failing after a few seconds. man, he really had to get some backbone if he was going to be doing this battling thing, right? some of the trainers he had seen had so much sass and bravery: he was about as scary as a cutely-iced cupcake sitting on a path in front of someone. this was just for fun, right, so he didn't have to worry about this guy being mean. he was, however, a little intimidating, as were his pokemon: both the starly and the rufflet shivered lightly as they scanned over the growlithe's sharp teeth and fiery stripes. at the allowance to go first, renae smiled and muttered his thanks before thinking hard about what to do. so far, no type advantages sprung to mind, so that was a bummer. but none faced himself, either, so the flipped coin was two-headed in that sense, at least. pointing at the growlithe and totodile with an arm that only slightly wobbled in its intent, he muttered to his pokemon before pushing them out into the fray. " kirby, use leer and then fury attack on that growlithe! seraphina, growl, then hit the crocodile with a wing attack." the rufflet moved forward first, tilting his head to the side so one beady little eye was fixed in a terrifying glare at the growlithe, before he moved forward and slammed the dog once, twice, three times. three was a good amount for the rufflet to hit before he retired back to his waiting position, renae thought happily, and cheered wordlessly at the pair of flying types. seraphina, though not very self-sufficient when alone, could be proficient once she knew what she was doing and had outward direction, so her growl and wing attack combo was executed well. feathers flying everywhere, she flew with wings outstretched at the totodile, a look of determination on her face. hopefully they would do okay with this battle and come out the other side stronger and better. he was pretty satisfied with this plan of his. he didn't really have a strategy in mind, other than not to lose too badly to this guy. he reminded him of high school bullies. he could only hope there weren't going to be any wedgies involved here.

He wondered if it was just shiny and beautiful, or if it also had some skills and this battle would show him which one it was. He awaited for them to make the first move and the trainer definitely was not kidding with it. First, the Starly responded with a growl on his Totodile which lowered Jet's attack before she came in and slashed through the alligator with a powerful wing attack. Luckily for Blitz, it seemed that the Starly was of a lower level as the attack did not hurt as bad as it could have. And it gave Jet some time to counter himself, although he awaited to see how Cerebrus would do first. And this was more interesting to Blitz anyways as the Starly was common and not shiny. The Rufflet was so he waited to see what it could do. It did not really disappoint at all, it gave the Growlithe the meanest leer ever which dropped Cerebrus' defense before he charged in and hit him three times with consecutive fury attacks. The move hurt a lot more than Cerebrus was used to, which proved that the Rufflet was of a higher level. But still, being the first move the two were easily able to survive the onslaught. And this gave Blitz the counter now. "Good move. But now it's mine turn." He said as he looked at the opponents. "Cerebrus, Howl and Body Slam on the Starly. And Jet, Leer on both then Ancientpower on the Starly."He went with it all in the first turn. He decided to go with a super effective attack and also egg on the fairer competition it seemed since Cerebrus was lower level than the Rufflet while Jet was higher level than the Starly. And the two quickly got to work. Cerebrus gave a loud howl which boosted his strength up a bit as he charged forth against the Starly and tried to thrash his body against her. He also intended to paralyze her with the attack, although the likelihood there wasn't so high. And Jet quickly gave the two a mean leer before he sent a prehistoric attack at the Rufflet, trying to hit his weak points and do some major damage. Unfortunately he did not receive a boost after. ::Growlithe:: (-1 defense) (+1 attack) Name: Cerberus | Level: 8 | Gender: Male Ability: INTIMIDATE | FLASH FIRE Attack Set 1: Bite | Ember | Body Slam Attack Set 2: Roar | Howl Hit by Leer and Fury Attack (x3). oh dear, he was into the thick of it now. he had stopped trembling, which was nice, likely because he was so into trying to win this battle that he had better things on his mind than to flutter like a leaf in the wind. " th-thankyou, uh..?" he said, placing a hand on the back of his neck, twining his fingers in his hair as he realised he didn't know his challenger's name. it probably didn't matter, but renae liked to be friendly. it was probably the only thing he had going for him. he flinched inwardly as his dear starly was battered about by the growlithe's attack. taking the hit on her body, she squawked harshly and ruffled her feathers back into place. at renae's words, she moved forward and prepared herself for another attack. " raph, let's go with another growl, then uproar!" nodding, the bird hopped forward and then growled at the assembled enemies. gathering up all her lung capacity, she took a deep breath then let all the air out in a raucous, crazy sound, intent on bursting the growlithe's eardrums or something along those lines. as he nodded at his bird, renae added to his shiny rufflet, " show them what you can do. a leer, then a wing attack!" too late, renae realised that his rufflet knew rock slide, and such an attack would be super effective on the growlithe there. but the mysterious man before him was doing the right thing, pitting the similarly-leveled Pokémon against each other. ancientpower, a strong move at any time, was doubly effective against rufflet, and after shaking off the powerful hit, the shiny creature frowned at the growlithe. but seraphina was taking on the fire type right now, so the rufflet was forced to swallow his pride in order to win. he was rather determined, but losing this battle was not something he would allow. launching forward with wings spread apart, he glared again at the totodile before flying at him. hopefully he might deal some damage before he was hit by another ancient power. all those levitating rocks did havoc with his flyig patterns, and besides, he had to win this. the little starly alone couldn't hack it: after all, he was the power behind this duo. he didn't know why renae even kept other Pokémon on his team.

When it was called, Blitz gave off a laugh as he knew it would be an interesting tactic. The move meant that the Starly would now be making a ruckus for 2-3 turns so it could not use any other move which was good for him at this instant. But on the other hand, it was a damn powerful attack also which worried himself somewhat against his opponent. He saw the uproar come after his Growlithe and hit him hard because, even though Cerebrus was one level greater, the attack still did a good amount of damage. And after suffering the fury attack before from the higher leveled target, it definitely wasn't fun to feel that. Next, he noticed that the Rufflet also took on the harder challenger as he sent a leer at both before he opened his wings and tried to cut the Totodile. The attack hit hard especially since she was also hit with a leer, and it opened up one of her wounds although she still had relatively good amount of health remaining. But now, it was their time to turn it around. And Blitz considered the strategy before he moved. "Your Pokémon are impressive. Tell you what, do you have any allegiances to Cheyenne yet?" Blitz asked. He wondered if Renae was in Ace Academy as he was interested in possibly recruiting him for Team Death. He had some nice Pokémon with good move sets, so he'd probably make a good recruit. And with that, he decided to go on the offensive once more. "Aqua Jet the Starly. Hit it fast before it expects it!" He said to Jet, choosing to switch targets now. He wanted to keep his trainer on his toes, and not let him be content or be able to guess what the TD commander had in mind. "Howl again. Then Ember on the Rufflet." He said to Cerebrus after. Again, not only did he change targets but also he changed move sets. This would really throw them for a whack. Or at least he hoped so. And his Pokémon got to work. Jet created enough water to propel himself forward as he rushed after the Starly and tried to smack hard into the poor Pokémon. Then Cerebrus howled again to boost his attack that he lost thanks to the growl before he created a small fire ball and shot it at the Rufflet to hopefully burn him. "You are an impressive trainer. I think we might be able to use you on our team" He said. He wanted to keep it ambiguous for now. And just get Renae interested. oh dear, the kid was laughing at him when he called out starly's move. did that mean it was a bad choice? he was totally open to the option that he had messed up monumentally and the stronger, wiser trainer in this duo was making fun of him. but those thoughts were stopped in their tracks with his next words. his pokemon were impressive? well, considering he had only just started, sure, he wasn't doing too badly for himself. and, unlike when he first began, he wasn't floundering in the deep end and getting himself into danger with every step he made. but he surely wasn't about to call himself a strong trainer just yet: that was just asking for a downside. what was it his mother always said? pride comes before the fall. " a-allegiances?" what was he supposed to say here? he didn't want to say the wrong thing and make himself an enemy. all he wanted was to befriend this guy, but he also was a little intimidated by him. " uhm, i've always gone for the ile electrique bolts in the football..." he began, stuttering and unsure of himself. he hoped against hope that his answer was the one this guy wanted, but that was probably a fruitless venture. allegiances? was cheyenne at civil war, or something? surely he couldn't have missed something that major. but then again, knowing him, it could probably easily have happened. shaking his head to rid it of the confusion their interaction had caused his poor little head, renae tried to concentrate back on the battle at hand. after being hit by a strong watery attack, the little starly was continuing with her uproar attack and shook off the water droplets from her feathers, making an insanely loud noise. noticing the challenger had swapped the pairs again and trying not to be caught off-guard by the guy's continuous strategy changes, renae followed suit, giving seraphina a quick order over the ruckus she was creating. " focus the attack on totodile, now!" she did so, opening her beak even more - if it were possible - and emitting an ear-splitting yell directed straight at the little blue crocodile. the rufflet was switching impatiently from talon to talon, ruffling up his feathers. he wanted to get in there and finish this. with a look of determination in his eyes, he turned to the fire dog and prepared for an onslaught. the small spitball of fire hit him hard on the side, but luckily he stamped out any remaining embers before they caught and he was not burnt. " hit him with rock slide!" renae called out from behind, and the eagle chick acquiesced happily, bringing down debris and other things along with the rocks he materialised, to make them fall heavily from the ceiling onto the flaming puppy. renae was breathing heavy now, looking almost scared as he listened to his opponent. his team? did he mean that he was going to steal renae's pokemon for his own, or did he want to collect himself, renae? either way, it got him a little frightened, and he chewed on the knuckles of his left hand in anticipation. he didn't want to be collected!

It was a silly answer actually, although he did not really appreciate the humor of it because he was too serious to do so. He was the type who probably had encore hit on him while he made a scary face, as he always looked scary and serious and could not help with it. He wanted to be more approachable but just couldn't get it across which was very disappointing to Blitz. There were times, many times, when he appreciated solace and being alone and because of that, it became customary for him to be alone. He was too used to sending people away that he didn't know how to bring them in. That was one of his problems so when the person gave a ridiculously silly answer, he could not help but give a serious and blank stare at Renae, probably creeping him out in the process. Luckily, it wouldn't last too long, although it did feel like an eternity while he was staring at Renae. Suddenly he heard the call for rock slide against his Growlithe. "Ugh..." Blitz was speechless, how in the world did that shiny Rufflet learn such an attack? It definitely became a worthy foe now, and he was even a bit jealous that his own Rufflet could not do something like that. But heck, that was the least of his worries. The bigger worry was, well Cerberus being hit. The rocks slid across his bod and knocked him unconscious. It was super effective and the pokemon was a higher level, he really did stand no chance. And Jet wasn't doing much better as another high powered uproar came at him and knocked him almost deaf on his sides... But luckily, he wasn't as badly conditioned as the Growlithe. And this worried Blitz momentarily as he was down one pokemon already against his opponent. But hopefully he still had enough to turn it around. "Ancientpower go." He said and Jet sent another prehistoric attack, this time at the Starly in hopes of knocking it out after he had lost his pokemon. He hoped with this, it would be a one vs one. As two vs one did not go in his favor. He also took out his pokeball to return Cerberus. He had a nice run but it was over now. ::Growlithe:: (-2 defense) (+1 attack) Name: Cerberus | Level: 8 | Gender: Male Ability: INTIMIDATE | FLASH FIRE Attack Set 1: Bite | Ember | Body Slam Attack Set 2: Roar | Howl Hit by Rock Slide (SE). he didn't even need words to understand the stranger's look at him. it was bordering on confusion, perhaps even a misunderstanding as to how renae even functioned in normal society. he got that look a lot from passers-by, he was very used to it by now. instead, he got a kind of satisfaction from seeing the boy's growlithe go down after kirby hit him. cheering, he fistpumped up into the air and whooped. " yeah! go team renae! alright, let's try for a--" he was cut short suddenly when he went for a high-five with seraphina, only to see the totodile get there first. a super-effective move: he supposed that was fair, considering he had just done the same thing to the growlithe. raph's eyes glazed over and she collapsed lightly to the ground, her eyelids flickering closed. renae bit back a few tears: this was the first time a Pokémon on his team had fainted, and so violently, too. renae clenched a fist and made himself look slightly more determined. " oh, great move!" he congratulated his opponent, grinning wildly. man, this was exhilarating! he was enjoying battling more than anything. melody and his mother had been right; this adventure truly was good for him. " leer again, kirby, and wing attack," he directed, watching the eagle chick fly forward with a fierce glare, wings outstretched and a violent battlecry emanating from his beak. < vengeance is a dish best served cold! > he cried. sure, he didn't actually really care that his companion had just fainted, but any kind of natural determination that came to mind that might spur him to a victory was welcome. and if all else failed, he could pretend that he felt sorry for 'raph and blame the loss on his emotions. any kind of excuse would be great.

This definitely worked in Blitz's favor as his Pokémon had a stronger move set, at least according to him against the trainer. He had to see though, maybe the Pokémon had a few more surprises up his sleeve or maybe the trainer had some himself. He waited to hear the order, but quickly yawned and got bored when he found out it was the same as before. First a leer, then a wing attack. Luckily though, this wing attack slammed a lot harder than before because of the two decreases in defense. And Blitz found himself close to an end now as his Pokémon was getting down in health and the opponent was also getting down in health. And the attack seemed to hurt a lot more thanks to the level increase and power increase in his target. He knew it wouldn't go well, but at least he was having a pretty good time battling. "You are pretty good. I must admit that. You have been a very nice surprise. I haven't had a battle this tough in a while. And your Pokémon are very intriguing." He said to Renae, complementing him as he got ready to make his possibly final move. "I guess it's time to put it all on the line now. You gave your last strike, now I will give mine. renae ran his hands through his air as the battle unfolded. this was a problem now: he didn't have a clue as to what his next strategy should be. his opponent looked bored - which wasn't good, seeing as renae was practically shaking in his shoes with a little bit of anticipation and a lot of fear - but he tried to keep his head above water. " uhm, th-thankyou," he said, trying for a little bow. it was time to put it all on the line. all on the line? it sounded like renae was standing on death row, having his very last meal and waiting for the call to come. he couldn't think straight. were all battles this nerve-wracking? he couldn't even imagine a gym battle, if this was a simple fun game to pass the time between strangers. " you've been an, uhm, nice surprise too," he said. aqua jet? that move again, a strong move which left rufflet coated in water and shaking his feathers to rid them of the droplets. frowning, kirby huffed heavily at the totodile, his determined personality coming out in full swing. he would win this battle, he would, he would! and nothing was going to stand in his way. not this totodile, or his owner. and definitely not renae, who kept sticking with a basic and comforting moveset. had this not been a strict one-on-one, he might have used u-turn and swapped out to melody, using the type advantages at their best. but that would break the rules. and if anything, the rufflet was a stickler for rules. instead, he decided on the move which had helped him before: fury attack. gathering up his energy and all of his stubbornness and desire to win, kirby threw himself four times - once more than before! renae cheered inwardly, but not out loud, so he didn't break his pokemon's focus - at the blue crocodile, tossing his whole body into the attack. he really didn't want to give the totodile another chance to attack, because he might be beaten. he'd never live that down, never. Blitz stated that he was putting it all on the line and that this would be the finale. It wasn't entirely false but it was half false. What he meant by that statement was, he was prepping it up for the finale right now. And when he heard the command for fury attack, he knew he'd have just enough time to pull it off. "Nice!" He said before he nodded at Jet. Jet knew what to do also, his name gave it off pretty easily. He'd have to use speed and priority against his target to end it, and he believed he could. "Good battle. But this is the end." Blitz acknowledged as Jet started to create a large water path behind him as he was setting up for his final blow. And suddenly, he shot forward at the Rufflet before he could get the fury attack through, aiming an aqua jet right at his target to hopefully end the match once and for all. The speed priority allowed him to easily evade the attack of the bird and come back with his own move, which Blitz hoped would be enough to end the battle. "You should give me your contact. I think you have a bright future here..." He said. He still kept it a bit ambiguous... ::Totodile:: (-2 attack) (-2 defense) Name: Jet | Level: 11.5 | Gender: Male Ability: Torrent Attack Set 1: Scratch | Aqua Jet | Ancientpower | Water Gun Attack Set 2: Rage | Leer | Personality: Bash, reckless, unrelenting, stuborn. renae was just preparing his victory dance in his head and not paying as much attention as he should to the battle. his detailed plan involved some full body crumping and maybe some classic sprinkler action. he had hoped he had this battle in the bag, considering his shiny rufflet was a powerful little pokemon. but suddenly, the speedy little totodile avoided kirby's fury attack with a well-timed aqua jet. renae couldn't help but smile: he had used that priority speed tactic with a quick attack move just a few days earlier. but it wasn't the tactics that confused him, but the words that came with them. " the end?" he said, confused look spreading over his face. the end of the battle should have been when kirby hit the totodile and the little blue water-type fell down, dazed and out. instead, the rufflet - already weakened to the point of being angry and, apparently, inaccurate - was hit by one last blast of water. before he could even shake off the water droplets, he swooned and collapsed, his eyelids falling down, so it looked like the bird was just slowly falling into an exhausted sleep. the battle had been so close! so close, close enough that renae didn't even mind that he lost. not that he would mind anyway, considering he just enjoyed being around pokemon and people in general. " those were some crazy tactics!" renae said, scooping up both the birds lying unconscious beside him and returning them to their pokeballs. moving forward with a lanky, spidery hand outstretched - his usual thing when meeting new people - renae was all smiles. " my name's renae," he began, wondering what the bright future the kid had in mind. he had no clue what this was going to involve, seriously. " renae summerby. i'll be around here if you want to catch up again. and, uh, you are..?" still smiling, he moved to pick up his backpack and go towards the door. he'd have to come back here again! not only did his pokemon get stronger, it also helped him get some much-needed practice. and for that, he couldn't thank this mysterious - and slightly scary - stranger enough. KIRBY THE RUFFLET met in march @ lvl 10 holding a sky plate! level 12 • keen eye + sheer force • male leer, peck, fury attack, wing attack u-turn, rock slide fainted one level to rufflet and totodile.

Blitz said as he nodded at Renae as he noticed him walk out of the door. With that, he was getting ready to leave himself, since he had no reason to stop Renae from leaving himself. He had gotten exactly what he wanted from this battle. He got a victory, met a promising young trainer, and found out that his pokemon had more promise. It was honestly all he could really ask for in this situation.
And with that he left the room also once Renae went out. He'd keep an eye out on the trainer to see what he would be up to later on. Because he looked like a possible Team Death candidate. Although, he'd have to see better training methods from him to be entirely sure.
