or am I building a dream? Finally, he was out of the woods. Blaze had been overjoyed, having accomplished his personal mission in catching all three of these interesting monkeys, while training up his Pokémon a little bit. He felt quite excited and ready to hit the Pokémon gym, confident that he would be able to do well. Blaze hadn't counted on the gym being closed. Apparently, Saturdays were no go's, and so he would have to wait until the following day to try battling against the gym, where size difference seemed to be the focus. Maybe some research would be better -- it had been over a year since his last gym battle, and he wanted to go in with as many advantages as he could. In fact, he would take the day to read up a bit on the third gym leader. Last time it had been a gym where fire types easily dominated the area. He doubted the same was true, nowadays. = = = Sunday came in with Blaze feeling confident. He had watched a few recorded battles online and listened to trainers converse in the small park-area of town. It hadn't been a lot, but he managed to understand the gist of Tina's strategy -- substitute. If he could prevent her in setting up her traps, it he would have a clear advantage. And with Makai and Goku, it wouldn't be too hard for him to do so. Still, he was a bit worried that his Pokémon weren't strong enough, especially against the torchic. Maybe he could use some of the TMs he had received recently to help him out a bit. The disks reflected the sun's light as he slowly doled a few of them out, hoping it would give him better luck in the battle to come. Stepping into the field, he saw the rocky terrain and decided that Goku would be a sure contender in it, the lithe monkey able to move about more swiftly than all his others. Perhaps Mothra would do well, being able to fly and overlook the area. He would have to feel the flow of the battle to truly make his decision, though. " I am here to challenge Tina for the Lilliputian badge," Blaze declared, getting himself ready for the fight. In retrospect, it was nice for him to have had that day off. He felt much more confident and ready to test his skills. Had he trained his Pokémon enough? This would be the perfect gauge. But she had recently just suffered a four game losing streak in the past month where the four contestants from Cheyenne had all come in and defeated her easily. She had to get rid of this funk and felt that the battle against Blaze might be the perfect opportunity to do it.
When he arrived at Saturday, the gym was closed but she actually was present inside training her pokemon in the rocky terrain so they could do a better job against whomever she faced next. She needed a win, and thus she could not wait for Sunday to come either so she could turn her luck around.
When Blaze made his way into the gym, she got herself ready on the other side with two pokeballs at hand already to start the battle. She had heard of Blaze and how he dominated the second gym with his fiery pokemon. She was surprised she had not seen him since, because she'd expect that he would've made his appearance much sooner than this. It seemed route 3 must have really taken a lot out of him.
She wondered if he was mentally ready or physically ready for this. But as proper protocol, she sent out her first two pokemon first against Blaze. As it was protocol to have the challenger go first.
The first was a large blue dragon who came out and growled as he saw Blaze. The other was a small orange chicken who found the trainer a bit interesting. Tina went with her strongest first because she heard rumors of Blaze and his fire power, so she needed the fire resistant to start.
"Your move first." She said after.

or am I building a dream? Blaze recognized the two pokemon that Tina released, having seen few playbacks of some previous gym battles. The dragon type would be tricky to take down, and the torchic was quite fast. He just needed to make sure his pokemon were stronger and faster.
"Makai! Hell!" He released two of his canine pokemon, and immediately wondered whether it was a good idea or not. He knew that the two were both quite competitive against each other, Hell feeling a bit threatened by the younger hound who was intent on making Hades his partner. "Hell, set up a reflect, and then stone edge on the torchic! Makai -- Taunt the dragon, and the beat up!"
He was going to go in strong, making sure his first move would be effective. Blaze felt his pokeball start to glow, the houndoom already drawing power from all of his teammates as he looked at the druddigon, tail wagging back and forth. The pokemon reared onto his hind legs, exposing the red underbelly, hoping to get the druddigon's full attention. The rocky helmet on the pokemon's head looked a bit silly, the two horns coming out the back through burned out holes, but it would put him on even grounds with the dragon type's rough skin. Fearlessly, and with all the energy absorbed from his healthy teammates, Makai went in for the beat up, the dark aura around him giving him strength.
Hell was much less enthusiastic about the whole affair, not too happy to be on the same field as the younger pup, but he would show everyone that, as a legendary pokemon, he was the alpha male in the pack of fire canines. Concentrating his energy, a powerful barrier was set up around him and, reluctantly, Makai. It would protect them from physical damages, helping them stay alive. Then, the entei stomped onto the roky terrain, easily breaking off pieces of cracked stone before sending them flying toward the small torchic.

[STYLE=border-bottom: 5px solid #FFC7FF;] [/style] Gym Leader Tina! Well, the gym leader wasn't ready to accept defeat, but she noticed that his pokemon were already on the attack as the torchic was ready to receive punishment. Tina wasn't going to let this be an easy battle, but she would perhaps have to get used to this style of battle. The torchic was instantly knocked out as soon as the stones from the ground erupted into it's face, and he was out of the game already even before Tina could shout out a command. Well, that wasn't very good as she sent the torchic back into it's pokeball and then sent out her next player. This was a game of chess alright, and she wasn't going to let her druddigon get anymore hurt than the rest of them. "BIg Mac, use Substitute and avoid being hit for a turn at least," even as she watched the houndoom use a rather powerful move. The taunt did make the druddigon angrier, and then he was unable to use subsitute and this frustrated him as the other pokemon on her team was brought out. Although the pokemon was in for it as the houndoom suddenly attacked the druddigon with what felt like a very powerful, punch, however he was still standing even at that. "Damn, change of plan, use Dragon Claw on Houndoom and go Whopper, use Substitute!" she said as the steelix was instantly sent out, letting out a loud roar as he hit the ground. Big Mac soon turned his attention towards the houndoom to attack him. Soon as Whopper hit the ground he instantly sacrificed some of his health to put up a substitute that shimmered in front of him. It was time to get things going, and she was planning something very evil now. "Well, I commend you, you have definitely raised a great team, It's not over yet!" she complimented Blaze. or am I building a dream? The torchic going down in a single move was definitely an advantage, and now he was faced with two of Tina's largest pokemon. The druddigon had been taunted, and so it wouldn't be able to set up a substitute, but the same couldn't be said with the steelix. Entei was familiar with the move, knowing how to split his energy in two himself, but still couldn't figure out how to get to the real one. Blaze, however, hoped that his strategy would work.
"Makai, Roar on the Steelix! Hell, fire blast on druddigon!" It was always a risk, making Makai switch targets when he battled. The pokemon's stubbornness and aggressiveness was something that had to be carefully handled, less he got out of hand. The houndoom did not want his prey to be taken down by the legendary pokemon, especially after taking the hit, the dragon claw wounding him and spilling a bit of blood on the rocks below feet. The reflect had cut the damage in half, which the houndoom was begrudgingly grateful for. It hadn't helped against the recoil he felt from slamming into the rough skin, scratching him up rather badly. He did have the satisfaction of knowing the favour had been returnd -- the rocky helmet on his head wasn't just for show.
It was Hell that acted first, collecting the fire into his body, burning hotter thanks to the charocal around his neck, before sending out the deadliest fire attack. The five-membered star was sent flying toward the dragon type, not all that accurate but certainly powerful. Makai wanted desperately to send his own attacks, to show his battle partner that he too could use fancy fire moves, but he did not want to look smaller, weaker next to that. His attacks would look like child's play next to the fire blast. Instead, his attention was on the steelix. There were two of them on the field, but only one was his target. As long as he could send the pokemon packing, he could consider his job done. Climbing onto a higher ledge, Makai let out a loud, terrifying roar, the sound erupting from his throat as his claws dug into the rocks, nails scratching the hard surface.

Tina was a bit disappointed when Blaze tried to make no conversation with her at all. It was like she was talking to a wall or something as her words were coming out but nothing was coming towards her. Actually the more Tina thought about it, the more the wall analogy worked. She was also attacking but having damage dealt back to her, and the damage was much worst than the ones she dealt herself. She found herself in a no-win situation and could not help but clench a fist and hit herself for being so pathetic. She had a losing streak and it wasn't going to end anytime soon, as she was just about to lose this match also. She saw as Big Mac was able to get his attack across, but suddenly the attack took a downturn when the helmet recoiled some damage to him. And then, to add injury to insult he had a fire blast attack come at him in full power. The situation did not look good for the Druddigon again, but luckily for him the type advantage gave him just enough to survive. Still, with his health drained so mightily it wasn't looking good at all. And then the roar hit. The Steelix substitute broke and the pokemon was returned to his pokeball immediately. This made the situation ten times worst. Not only did she waste 1/4 of her pokemon's health, but now she had to use her last pokemon when the trainer had not even gone through two yet. And... As if it couldn't get any worst, the last pokemon happened to be a Budew. A chewing object for the opponent. Tina wanted to feel confident, that she could still win the match but she knew it was pretty much over. She could give it her best but she likely would not come out ahead in the end. But that did not deter her from trying at least. With that, she threw her Budew ball onto the field and her final pokemon made it's appearance. "Alright. It's not over yet. It's not over." She said before she gave a big sigh. She was exhausted from the battle already, exhausted by the fact that she was getting her butt kicked. "Spikes. Then Sludge Bomb the Houndoom. Lets take out one at least!" She said as her Budew quickly set a few spikes on the ground before she aimed a nasty sludge bomb on her opponent. It'd give them some hope... "Crunch. Use the gem!" She then said to the Druddigon. She wished she could also use hone claw to boost the attack, but that wasn't an option. So instead Big Mac just charged with his increased strength from the dark gem and tried to dig his teeth into the Houndoom. Only problem, as a dark pokemon the Houndoom probably would not be as damaged as she'd hope. But hey, she had to use the gem and at least give it a try. ::Druddigon:: BIG MAC ( M ) 27 TYPE: dragon ABILITY: rough skin & sheer force ATTACKS: dragon claw - crunch - slash - scary face - bite - hone claws - substitute - glare PERSONALITY: goofy . stylish . knowledgeable Hit by recoil and Fire Blast (NVE). or am I building a dream? The dark type was suddenly under fire. Makai could do nothing but to stand his ground, legs gripping onto the rocks as he was knocked down by the crunch and then further damaged by the sludge bomb. The toxic sprew covered his body and seeped in through the fur, poisoning the houndoom, though the pokemon tried to power through. The rocky helmet would damage the druddigon again, a price to pay for daring to attack him. He was quite weak now, but the reflect managed to lessen the effects of the crunch and allowed him to survive. Blaze was counting on him and he wasn't going to disappoint. Especially with a pesky grass type on the field.
"Makai, Taunt and Incinerate on the budew." Blaze wasn't interested in talking to the gym leader. In fact, it was rather hard, knowing that he was sending out his team death members to fight these leaders in their spare time. If he didn't talk, he wouldn't be able to give himself away. He just had to concentrate on the battle, concentrate on Makai. The pokemon did not have the strongest fire attacks, mostly relying on the status moves to bring him forward. This time, however, Blaze knew that there was no point pitting him against anyone other than the grass type. Makai was going to go after it regardless. Indeed, a murderous glint appeared in his eyes as the fire type used his taunt, effectively halting any additional spikes to be laid out. He then let out a string of fire, potent enough to burn any berries the pokemon might be holding.
With that done, it was time to take the dragon down before the taunt wore off and the pokemon put up a substitute. At least he wanted to make sure there wasn't enough health for that. "Hell, shadow ball on the dragon!" Blaze watched as the pokemon gathered up murky, dark particles, collecting them in front of him before it was launched toward the druddigon. The legendary pokemon hadn't been challenged yet and was biding his time, not willing to let his guard down lest his opponents decided to strike back.

GYM LEADER TINA The newly called out Budew placed a paw on her hip in indignation when her dog-like opponent dared to give her the evil eye. <Hey, you have no right to look at me like that! Horndog.> She snapped in his general direction only to be responded to with a fierce flame in her direction. It engulfed her and she screeched with horror before doing the logical thing and rolling on the ground to put it out. Fortunately, she had no berry to burn - only a piece of black sludge, which she extracted a little bit of relief from. Despite that, she was furious. <My beautiful sheen.. it's ruined!> She hissed, referring to her burnt skin.
Tina, even without an extensive pokespeech vocabulary, knew what her poor Budew was talking about, but she also knew that dillydallying was not going to secure victory. This was a tough opponent. "Bitty, Sludge Bomb the Houndoom." She commanded. She nodded, disappointed that such a simple move like Taunt could thwart Tina's whole strategy. She aimed at the soot-colored dog before belching out a noxious sphere of toxins towards him, hoping it'd do some damage.
Big Mac wasn't doing so well, really. His bite on the Houndoom resulted in pain from the Rocky Helmet; he stumbled back, vision flashing from the shock of pain, when a sudden Fire Blast engulfed him. <Nobody ordered dragon steak! Argh!> He cried out before sinking to the ground, charred and unable to battle. Tina recalled him, biting her lip as she sent out Whopper again to take his place.
<So soon?> Whopper groaned, hoping he wouldn't have to keep fighting this battle. As far as he was concerned, they were inevitably going to lose. Both he and Budew were sort of bad with fire. "Focus," Tina snapped. "Substitute." It was a way to buy some turns, at least. The enormous steel snake obeyed, splitting off a quarter of his health and fashioning it into a doll to take his hits for him.

or am I building a dream? Two down, two to go. Blaze was doing quite well for himself and all he had to worry about were the two pokemon before him, both of which were weak to fire types. With his team, it would be a breeze. Hell still wasn't getting hit, perhaps the gym leader understanding the power difference to try and pick off his weaker houndoom instead. Makai poisonned, he wouldn't be able to hold for long. One last taunt was all Blaze would need for him to lock down the steelix's moves.
The houndoom stared the budew down, looking at her with a cocky eye, as if daring her to attack him. As if he wanted anything to do with her. It was simply those leaves that were to easy to burn. He just wanted to see her in a fiery pain.
Without substitutes, the gym was quite easy. The sludge bomb hit Makai on his side, the reflect useless against the projectile. Blaze's eyes narrowed as he watched his pokemon's legs give in and collapse underneath the canine's body. Well, so much for his grand plan. He would just have to finish off the pokemon with brute strength. Besides, it would be a good time to utilize the lucky egg mothra was so fond of.
The pokemon exchanged places, Makai being recalled and the large moth pokemon bursting out of her pokeball. The rocky terrain made it a bit hard for her to find the pokemon scattered on the field, but with her higher vantage point, the movements of the grounded pokemon gave their positions away. She was a tad confused as to why there were two steelix, one of them hiding in the back while the other one appeared quite flimsy. The concept of the substitute didn't register with her too well. "Light Screen, and then Ember on that Steelix." The command was simple and, on top of the reflect, another barrier was set up, protecting the two pokemon from any attacks that came their way. Once protected, it was quite easy for the bug type to just shoot out a couple of fireballs toward one of the targets, hoping that it was the proper target. "Hell, use a Fire Spin on the budew!"
The entei seemed quite proud that he had outlasted the houndoom, even though he did notice that all the attacks were going on the smaller canine. However, being able to stay on top and take down these pokemon with relative ease was quite a boost to his ego. The fire spin was not the strongest of his attacks, but it would serve well on the long run. But honestly? A good old fire blast would have done the job just as well. Still, the pokemon created a ring of fire and sent it circling around the budew, hoping to trap it and to deal enough residual damage to weaken it considerably.

[STYLE=border-bottom: 5px solid #FFC7FF;] [/style] Gym Leader Tina! Tina was slightly saddened that her pokemon were now down to the last two, and she had a pitted feeling in her stomach that the rest of this trainer's pokemon were the same type. It was time to get a little edge in at least, but she could pull off a new maneuver if she could. It was risky but she knew that targeting the weaker pokemon would help her out now, and since her steelix wasn't taunted anymore. It was time to move to plan B, which wasn't a very good plan in general. "Oh no, look out Bitty, try to dodge it and use substitute!" she said to the itty bitty budew, who was flopping up against the entei. Basically wiggling her body up to the entei, telling him to bring on the heat. Suddenly engulfed in flames, and it was over just like that, since there was not another subsitute in the way to take her place. The damage was intense and she suddenly fainted just like that, although, another substitute would have indeed helped if Tina had reacted a little faster. Tina bit her lower lip softly and then looked at her Steelix, deciding to do a rather bold move even with being on the verge of defeat. Soon enough she was yelling out another command, "Whopper, use Stealth Rock, and then Smack down on the entei!" she commanded Whopper who reared his steel head. The metallic snake suddenly roared and rocks floated into the sky mysteriously as they took on a slight transparent look. Obviously very dangerous for those pokemon coming into this battle, but that wasn't over just yet. Whopper was suddenly moving rather fast for his size, and was instantly aiming his whole body at the entei. The whole length of the entire snake rising up into the air to fall as fast as he could onto the entei, ignoring the bug pokemon that was accompanying him. Tina was hoping that at least she could make a comeback somehow, but judging from how strong that Entei was, she was wondering why he was even here to challenge her. "Ah, the strong, silent type, well, I tend to prefer them anyways, I might have some interest in you other than a battle, after all," he said to her, but at least she was proving to be quite strong. ::budew:: BITTY ( F ) 27 TYPE: grass / poison ABILITY: natural cure & poison point ATTACKS: absorb - growth - water sport - stun spore - mega drain - worry seed - spikes - sludge bomb - substitute PERSONALITY: bratty . cruel . malicious Hit by Fire Spin! or am I building a dream? It was almost done. Blaze only had to finish off one last opponent before it was over. The steelix had used a total of two substitutes now, and so it should be at half health, despite the shimmering replica that was now taking the damage. Mothra wasn't able to finish it off with a single ember, but Hell would be able to destroy it.
The trainer spared a glance at the gym leader who seemed quite determined to drag him into the conversation. Frankly, he wasn't interested in talking to her, and even wondered just a bit why she didn't immediately recognize him. Maybe her flirting was clouding her judgement? He wasn't into her, though. It's been a while since he had been interested in anyone, really, too confused about who he was and what he wanted. At the moment, he just wanted the third badge before moving on.
With both reflect and light screen up, the damage taken by his pokemon were all halved, making it much easier for them to withstand the hits from the steelix. It was a good thing too, as the large steel-type's attack would have taken off a much larger chunk of his pokemon's health. The attack shattered the barrier, making his pokemon once again vulnerable to the more physical attacks. Now that stealth rock was on the field, though, he would have to be careful. Blaze would hate to subject any of his pokemon to this torture, the floating shards of stone sure to snag onto the skin of any pokemon he chose to release.
Blaze went back to ignoring the gym leader to lead his pokemon to victory. It wouldn't be long, now. "Mothra -- Calm mind and ember! Hell, Reflect and Fire Spin!" Mothra would be able to destroy the substitute with her enhanced fire attack. Once it was down, he would just have to trap the steelix into a vortex of fire.
The bug type seemed rather intimidated with all of the stones now floating on the field due to the stealth rock and stayed far away. She used a calm mind, her movements slowing a bit as she concentrated her energy before flying down, releasing her fire attack. Hell waster no time, the entei standing still and building up power, the energy concentrating to form another reflective barrier. Once it was well in place, the volvanic pokemon summoned a ring of fire that started to close in around his opponent.

The steelix went down, the large pokemon's weakness to fire ending its time on the battlefield. Hell had a rather satisfied look on his face, having brought down all of his foes, an accomplishment befitting of a legendary beast. Mothra was returned first, the moth-like creature more than happy to leave the battlefield, while the Entei spent a bit of time staking his claim on the rocky terrain.
The trainer accepted the badge from Tina, glad that this was over. The next gym was said to be rather different with no real regards to levels. Perhaps he should go and challenge it right away -- his pokemon were strong. A bit of research and he should be fine, though a bit more training in the fourth route might be a safer choice.
Blaze would have to see what the gym leader was like.
