Cameron was not at all thrilled by the weather. Lightning crackled some distance away, and the occasional rumble of thunder threatened to deafen him every time it made its dramatic appearance. Fortunately, it at least wasn't raining. That would have been downright miserable! He glared up at the overcast sky, then continued down the road. After several more minutes of walking (he had already been traveling for who knows how long), he came upon a fork in the path. Resting in the crook between the two splitting trails was a sign. One pointed to the left, and declared that the corresponding road would lead to the Lab. Finally! His feet were starting to feel sore. Cameron was about to turn onto the left-curving path when the other sign on the post caught his eye. Ranger Station? What on earth was that? For a few seconds, he wavered between the two paths. Finally, though, he turned towards the more mysterious of the two locations. He was going to become a trainer, after all! Exploring new and strange situations was just another day in the life of a trainer, right? Cameron nodded to himself, then marched down the road with as much dignified pride as a guy of his stature could manage.
After another few minutes of walking, Cameron spotted what seemed to be a large tent in the distance. Was this his destination? Sure enough, as he continued to follow the road, it led him right towards the circus-like tent, around which several people were milling. They were all dressed in a similar uniform, so they had to be workers here. His interest quite piqued by this point, Cameron moved closer to the tent's opening, then stuck his head inside. People and pokemon alike were gathered inside, although the area wasn't tightly packed in a way that would cause claustrophobia. Maybe there were fewer people because of the storm? Cameron couldn't know for sure, because he had no frame of reference with which to compare this establishment's current staffing. He waited for another crash of thunder to rumble into silence, then spoke. "Hey, what is this place?" He used his loudest, most demanding tone in hopes that it would capture someone's attention. With the combined clamor of the storm and the gathered individuals, however, there were no guarantees that anyone would notice a lone teenager peering into the tent.

Between the thunderstorm and the ruckus inside the tent, the rangers almost didn't hear the new trainer's voice, asking for assistance. Unfortunately, once heard, they couldn't quite ignore it.
"I'm not going out there. That weather is a menace to my pokemon," a voice declared. "One of you go." There was arguing about which ranger should be the one to brave the storm before one of them finally conceded and stepped out, followed by a rather confident-looking quagsire. The ranger hadn't quite heard Cameron's question and was only out here due to an unfortunate toss of a coin.
Lightning split the sky in half before a clash of thunder echoed through the area. It was going to be hard, finding a pokemon for this trainer. "Hi, I'm Leo, and this is Sir Quack. Let's make this quick. You're here for a starter, right? Right. Okay. Sir Quack, please?" The ranger obviously wasn't too happy to be out here in the thunderstorm but tried to smile, just a tiny bit, before ushering his pokemon past an enclosure and into the tall grass.
The rain bean down on him violently, soaking him to the bone in no time at all. Really, was this trainer crazy? Starting his journey in a weather like this? Sheesh. Couldn't he have waited for the storm to be over, at least? "Quack will be back in a moment with your starter, and then maybe you could take shelter in the tent before heading off?" he offered. It didn't take too long until the pokemon came back, a couple of glowing lights following it.

The uniformed employees didn't seem to notice Cameron at first, but eventually one of them shouted that he didn't want to go outside. A muttered argument seemed to follow this declaration, and Cameron leaned against one of the tent's stakes while he waited. Honestly, he still didn't know what this place was. Why were they arguing like that? It had been a very simple question in his opinion. Perhaps these simpletons couldn't decide on an answer. He snickered at the thought, just as one of the gathered...rangers? This place was called the Ranger Station, so these guys had to be rangers. Anyway, it didn't really matter to him, as long as he got his answer. The guy walked towards him with a quagmire trailing along behind him. Whoever he was, he didn't seem pleased.
"Hi, I'm Leo, and this is Sir Quack. Let's make this quick. You're here for a starter, right? Right. Okay. Sir Quack, please?", the ranger said, and Cameron straightened up again, crossing his arms across his chest. A starter? What? This place gave out starter pokemon, apparently. Well, that was his whole reason for being here. Apparently this place was going to be of more use than he had first imagined. Leo sent his partner outside, then turned back to him. "Quack will be back in a moment with your starter, and then maybe you could take shelter in the tent before heading off?" Cameron glanced out at the rain pouring down outside, and saw the wisdom of taking advantage of the shelter. He took a few steps further into the tent, then finally opened his mouth to address the ranger.
"Sure. Quite a friendly bunch, aren't you?", he asked in a thoroughly sarcastic tone. The barbed comment was rather uncalled for, considering how helpful Leo was being, but he couldn't resist commenting on the argument of a few minutes prior. Afraid of a bit of rain, were they? In what seemed like no time at all, the quagmire returned. Cameron saw the pokemon nearing the tent out of the corner of his eye, and turned to look as he noticed two glowing lights accompanying Quack. When they drew closer, he was finally able to recognize the other pokemon as being a chinchou. Figures. He gets his starter during a thunderstorm, and it happens to be a dual water and electric type. Cameron smiled in spite of himself as he gazed upon his soon-to-be partner. "That thing's for me, right?", was his eager question as the pair entered the shelter of the tent.

Leo let out a little laugh as they finally returned to the safety of th tent, where the rangers inside were mostly playing cards and dice and waiting for the time, and more importantly the storm, to pass. They glanced at the two males, soaking wet, and a couple of slightly-damp-but-dry-enough-for-Leo-not-to-complain towels were thrown at them. "Don't worry, they're nice. The weather is just bringing us all down a bit. Rangers like the great outdoors, but not during this gale," said Leo. "Dry off a bit for now. Thunderstorms never last too long."
Sir Quack and the chinchou also came back into the tent and some rangers commented on the new starter pokemon. "Oh! Yes, this is for you!" Leo walked over to a large chest and pulled out a bag full of starter supplies, along with an extra pokeball. "Here, catch the chinchou with this pokeball, and it'll be officially yours," he told the trainer. "And these are some items to get you started." Leo held out the bag if trainer necessities.

Cameron hastily ducked back into the tent when Leo did the same, completely soaked through by this point. At any other time, he probably would have been in a much darker mood, but the excitement of gaining his first Pokémon made him much more agreeable than usual. In fact, he was almost giddy with happiness at the idea that he was finally a trainer. He caught a towel that one of the other rangers threw at him, and mopped up his hair, which probably looked dreadful after all of that moisture. He would pull his comb out and fix it, but that would probably look girly. "Don't worry, they're nice. The weather is just bringing us all down a bit. Rangers like the great outdoors, but not during this gale.”, Leo explained, not seeming at all insulted by his earlier comment. "Dry off a bit for now. Thunderstorms never last too long.”
Cameron happily obeyed, soaking up the excess moisture from his clothes with the damp towel before tossing it onto a random bench. At the sound of a few comments from the gathered rangers, he looked up again, and saw that the quagmire and chinchou had followed them inside. His new partner was obviously the target of whatever they were saying, although the thunder prevented him from making out their words. "Oh! Yes, this is for you!”, Leo announced suddenly, and brought him a bag that probably contained supplies. In the ranger’s other hand was a pokeball, which he also passed to Cameron. "Here, catch the chinchou with this pokeball, and it'll be officially yours.” The teen’s eyes lit up at that, and he gratefully took both items. He then threw the mechanism with enthusiastic strength, and it bopped the chinchou right on the head. In a few seconds, the capture was complete. Cameron let out a joyful shout as the pokeball came to a rest on the ground, and he dove to scoop it up again.
”Wow! Dude, thanks.", he said, including a rare word of gratitude. Cameron then collected his bag of supplies, before glancing back out at the rain. ”I hope it lets up soon.” A bit of his typical irritation returned with this comment. This storm was keeping him from continuing his journey! He scowled at the gale, just as he had before coming to the Ranger Station.

::RANGERM:: R A N G E R . E N C O U N T E R . . .
Leo was already stripping off most of his outer wear in exchange for something dry. There were a lot of spare ranger uniforms which were much more comfortable to wear when dry. "You can have one of these, if you want," he offered, gesturing a pile of red and black clothing. There wasn't really any changing rooms though, so unless the trainer was quite comfortable with his own body, he would just have to bear with the wet clothing.
It did not take too long until the storm finally subsided and the first of the brave pidgeys came out, chirping to signal their presence, and in a few more minutes, half of the rangers had gone out to make sure the roads were clear and that no pokemon had been harmed in the gale.
ooc; feel free to just move onto the first route <3 also, most of the time, the mods decide whether or not a capture has been successful. it doesn't matter too much in this thread since it was pretty much guaranteed, but make sure to wait, if using on wild pokemon <3
hope you enjoy your starter, and i swear it was randomly generated. happy coincidence?

Cameron watched with thinly-vieled disproval as Leo started peeling off a lot of his soaked outer clothing. He was doing that right in the middle of the tent? Did the guy have no sense of dignity to maintain? When Leo offered one of the spare ranger outfits for his use, Cameron hastily refused. Goodness no, he was not stripping down to his underwear in front of a crowd of strangers. He, at least, had his pride to consider. Cameron shivered absently as he waited for the storm to pass.
After what felt like eternity, the constant splashes and patters of raindrops outside began to lessen, then ceased altogether. Cameron looked out to see that weak sunlight had finally broken through the cloud cover, and glowed down on the now oh-so-muddy road with a precious warmth. Finally! He had thought that storm was never going to end! "Well, that took long enough. See you later." With that brusque farewell, he squelched away with his nose in the air. Hopefully his clothes would dry before too long. It really wouldn't be pleasant to walk all day in damp jeans. Plus, his t-shirt was sticking to his skin in a very uncomfortable fashion. Not even these highly-annoying details could distract him from the excitement of finally having a pokemon, though. So, instead of sulking miserably, he made his way towards the first route, the chinchou's pokeball grasped firmly in one hand, and the bag of supplies swinging from the other.
(OOC: Yeah, I figured that I didn't have to wait, with the chinchou being Cameron's starter and all. I've never been a big fan of water pokemon, but Amica is just too adorable! <3 The coincidence was quite amazing, too. You have to love it when that sort of thing happens. ^_^ )
