Name (Nicknames?): Nathaniel Credan, Nate
Gender: Male
Date of birth [Age]: June 24th, 20 years old
Appearance: Nathaniel stands at 6'4" and weighs approximately 175 lbs., putting him at a respectable height and weight for a twenty year old male. His hair, falling just past his shoulders, is a deep black color. His hair is slightly wavy, and when wet these waves straighten out making his hair reach his shoulder blades instead. He usually wears it pulled back in a ponytail, leaving only two strands of hair free that frame his face. His eyes have an oval shape to them, and are a deep, warm brown. Nathaniel has a long nose, situated over a full mouth that can go from smiling to scowling easily. Just under this is the beginnings of a beard, mostly stubble as he does shave it, though usually lets it go until the five o'clock shadow returns. He possesses a lean build, with mostly muscle in his limbs. His arms have some second degree burn scars to them, mostly due to the time he's spent around fire-types over the years, and his left arm and wrist have also suffered burn damage. Some of these scars can be seen on his shoulders and torso as well, but tend to be covered by his clothes. His left shoulder blade also carries a tattoo of a stalking Umbreon.
He has a habit of wearing cargo pants with what seems to be more pockets than physically possible, but they work. Around his waist is a belt used to carry Pokéballs on. For shirts he tends to wear A-shirts that fall just below his collarbone, though these are usually covered by his well-loved trench coat. The sleeves have long-since been removed, either because of fire damage or tears, and now are no longer than those of a T-shirt, exposing Nathaniel's arms. This garment is a pale tan color, similar to the fur of a Ninetales. In fact, the back has the pattern of a sitting Ninetales, staring out of the fabric, with all nine of its tales spread out. The bottom of the coat has black flames emblazoned upon it, licking up towards the Ninetales.
The trench coat has a small number of pockets on the inside, which is where he keeps items he needs for easy access. On his feet is a pair of black hiking boots that have seen a great deal of wear, but can definitely hold up to more abuse. Over the trench coat he wears a hiking backpack, where he stores spare clothing, an extra pair of boots, sleeping bag, and everything else he may need in his journey. One of the pockets of his cargo pants also carry a small journal, where he makes note of what has happened to his as he explores the Cheyenne Region, heading for the Pokémon League.
History: Nathaniel grew up in the Johto Region, helping his parents on their farm where they raised mostly fire-types, either for trainers needing some help, to sell or trade, or for racing. At a young age he mostly worked in the breeding barn, helping to bath, groom, and feed newly hatched Pokémon, letting his parents focus on the older, and sometimes more volatile, adults. He enjoyed working on the farm, even when it was difficult, because he knew he was doing what was needed to help the family. As he got older, his parents gave him more responsibilities around the farm.
Working with the adult Pokémon, Nathaniel quickly learned just why his parents and the other farmhands had burns: the fire-types often would flame when angry, resulting in burns nine tenths of the time, even when quickly treated. Sometimes they didn't even have to be angry with a human, but with one of the other fire-types on the ranch, and one of the hands simply got in the way. He has gained some of his own, though he sees them less as disfigurements and more of a mark of honor and pride, knowing that he got them because he refused to back down when one of the Pokémon on the farm was acting out.
One of the more memorable incidents that ended with another burn in Nathaniel's collection was with a Houndoom that, for one reason or another, had decided that one of the Vulpix from a recent litter was going to be the victim to its anger at losing a battle against one of the Numel that also lived there. The fire/dark type decided to let out its anger on the young Vulpix, even though it was much stronger than the small fox like Pokémon. Nathaniel interfered by pulling the Vulpix out of the way, though the fire caught his left hand and wrist. His parents, seeing this happen, raced over and his father immediately corralled the Houndoom, while his mother began treating the burn. The fast attention saved his hand from becoming completely useless, but Nathaniel does have limited mobility in it.
The young Vulpix he had protected refused to leave his side when he was healing, and his parents decided not to argue about it. He ended up naming her Kaya, and she quickly became his partner, helping him while he did his chores. In their free time the pair would work together on learning how to communicate, so Nathaniel would stop having to guess at her words. Time together has made it so he can understand her almost fluently, though he still can misunderstand some phrases or meanings at time. Because of this, they're able to work together well, and rarely have major misunderstandings.
Even while working on the farm, he's always taken the time to study for school, keeping decent grades even though he's spent so much time working with and for his parents. At times the work overwhelmed him, and his grades have suffered, but he managed to graduate school with a low B average. Kaya occasionally helped him study, sometimes reminding him he had school work when he was otherwise occupied.
Recently, Nathaniel's parents have decided he's no longer completely needed around the farm, and that it would be an opportune time for him to decide what he wants to do with his life besides work with them. Having been given an opportunity, he's ready to follow a dream he's been interested in for a while, becoming a trainer. Deciding he wants to become a trainer in a region other than Johto, he has come to the Cheyenne Region with Kaya, who his parents officially gave to him not long before he left as a reward for all his hard work.
Having always been interested in writing and drawing, Nathaniel's brought along a set of journals, some for sketching and others for writing in about what he sees and discovers while on his journey as a trainer. He's also brought some art supplies from home, mostly things to remind him of his parents. He promised he'd send pictures home as well, and has a camera in his large backpack in order to take the promised photos.
Interactions with Pokémon: Having grown up on a Pokémon farm, Nathaniel could be considered well versed in how to work alongside them. Considering the farm was geared almost exclusively to fire-types, he rarely interacted with Pokémon of other types unless they were a dual type. He has especially never interacted with Water-types, and as such is unsure as to how he would respond to meeting one. Kaya, too, is more used to other fire-types, and the pair are both curious as to how they'll proceed upon meeting something they've never encountered before.
Nathaniel's favorite Pokémon, by far, are Ninetales and Umbreon, the second he has only seen on occasion when he spent the night watching over one of the family herds. Still, he would definitely like to learn more about the dark-types and about Pokémon in general.
Personality:
Pre-starter information: Kaya is very loving towards Nathaniel, loving to spend her time outside of her ball exploring beside him. She is also just as protective of him as he is of her. The pair works well together, though there are times Kaya can get annoyed with her trainer when he decides he's more interested in helping someone than doing whatever he was planning to do. No matter what, though, she does love him, and has no problem helping him. On her own, Kaya tends to be curious, often getting herself into trouble even when she really shouldn't. Still, she also tends to watch over her trainer, and is definitely good at making friends.
Goals in Cheyenne: While in Cheyenne, Nathaniel hopes to make his way to the Pokémon League, collecting badges as he goes. At the same time, his main, most pressing goal is to level up and eventually evolve Kaya, though he has no interest in forcing it on her. He does want to learn how to fluently understand her as well, and hopefully becoming fluent in other Pokéspeak as well. And, hey, catching a great team would be nice too.

Personality:
- Snarky
Nathaniel tends to use wit in order to point out problems in the logic of others, usually in a biting or scathing manner. This can get him in trouble at times, though he does know how to bite back these comments when needed. - Disorganized
While he does his best to keep things together, occasionally his things can get completely jumbled, making them hard to find. There's a reason he fills those pockets in his trench coat for the things he uses commonly. - Helpful
He has no problems in giving assistance to someone who needs it, really needs it, even if it might slow him down. - Protective
He tends to do what he must in order to protect those he views as 'weaker' than him, mostly those who are younger. If they prove otherwise, however, he will reconsider his need to protect someone. - Responsible
He's been helping out his parents since he was a child, meaning he learned responsibility early. Even if he gets distracted, he always has a clear plan, and goal, in mind that he's working towards.
