Name: Elliot Manchester Gender: Male Age: 18
Appearance Elliot is young, Caucasian, and about as modest as the glossiest rooster in the pen. At only a few inches above being a flat five feet, he holds himself high for his meager height and proud despite his narrow shoulders and slim build. His eyes are a soft amber dappled brown and his hair is thick and black, cut so it just brushes his ears on the sides, sweeps just below them in the back, and falls halfway down his forehead. To his chagrin, his soft facial features and body type often cause him to be mistaken for a woman or at the very least a feminine man. Recently, he’s taken to wearing a black fedora, button-up shirts, and the like in a rather dramatic change of fashion wholly more mature than his previous attire, but all too often this merely causes him to get pegged as a cross dresser…
History Elliot always felt a bit out of place when he was younger. None of the other children really had much of a place for him. The boys were cruel to him for reasons incomprehensible to him at the time, and sexist as a very young child may be he had no interest in keeping the company of girls. A trend began that would follow him into adolescence, through his teen years, and eventually into adulthood. He became a lone wolf, content in solitude and indifferent to schoolwork.
His grades weren’t real enough to him to prompt him into true effort and his parents always encouraged him by telling him that they’d be happy with any grade so long as he did his best, which he could gladly attest to. As he passed by all the math and history at a mere adequate, his real interest grew in Pokémon. In his teen years, it even grew in romance. Neither ever really blossomed into anything in the real world, however, and stayed solidly in the realms of an afternoon’s dream and perhaps the carefully hidden novel.
Pokémon to him were a program on the television or a neighbor’s pet. They were a carefully chosen list of type-combinations in his notebook and meticulously chosen movesets. They were a goal, a career free of all the dreary academics and ripe with the promise of adventure. High school was merely an obstacle transcended for the sake of his parents. For every test he just barely passed, he could feel himself all the closer to freedom.
Then he graduated. He felt empowered. In an almost backwards gesture (for is long hair not often associated with freedom?) he cut his previously shoulder-length hair short and after much consideration on his image fell in love with a fedora and a couple of button-up shirts. Equipped with his new image, he was going to take the world by storm.
Personality Having set out on his journey, Elliot likes to think he’s very suave. He likes to think it, for it fits with the new image he's built for himself, but when it comes its closest to being true he's a phony at best. The mirror can be deceiving, especially to one desperate to change an aspect of oneself. His new image may feel empowering while he preens in front of a mirror, but it can just as easily fall apart to timid politeness when he misplaces his false bravado.
That being said, one thing that hasn’t changed about Elliot his strong sense of fairness, especially where prejudice is concerned. Nothing gets him quite so boiled up as the active complaints of a racist or homophobe and he isn’t afraid to defend the lone “loser” who reminds him so much of his younger self. When his thoughts turn righteous, he simply forgets how to be timid or reserved. Injustice gets him heated up enough so that he’s had his fair share of getting into “fisticuffs” in the past, though he’s never quite gotten onto the winning side without a little scratching or biting due to a lack of real muscle.
Elliot is more sensitive than he’d let on, but not so much so that an insult would send him into a corner. Rather, he’s often doubting the sincerity of others and frequently questions how just how likable he actually is. Perhaps someone is merely tolerating him and not genuinely enjoying his company, after all. He’s generally friendly nonetheless, but guarded and more likely to keep to himself if there‘s no explicit reason for him to strike up conversation.
