✖ PERSONALITY: Cress has a very independent personality, he makes his own decisions and has his own way of thinking everything through. He never follows the crowd and has become accustomed to making his own way. Perhaps a good position for a leader, however he's not comfortable with the responsibility of other people and their lives in his hands. Regardless he will step up for someone if it's prompted of him or if the situation requires him to do so, he's very dependable in that sense. He's loyal and caring, but both in ways that he doesn't show directly, but rather keeps those feelings to himself. He's more comfortable just ensuring the safety of those he cares about and leaving it at that, he's certain people can take care of themselves otherwise.
In battle he's a diligent fighter, and expects the same from himself as he does his Pokémon. He knows when to quit, and feels committed to learn from defeats as well, he knows everyone loses sometimes. But he's still a fiery opponent in battle, zealous and full of energy. Battles with his partner Spooky, the ghost Pokémon Gastly, make him feel rejuvenated and enriched with life. Together they make an excellent team, albeit the short time they've known each other.
Every good side has it's bad side though, and Cress is only human. If angered he can be very hard to befriend, and he values respect highly. But rather than being provoked directly, he's much more easily flustered if someone he cares about are hurt. He can be very cold and at worst even callous and cruel, but it's rare for Cress to be like this. Despite negative emotions, he would never resort to brutally harming another person, it's just not in his nature. He's more kindhearted than that, and although his partner has made him a tad more mischievous, his mature personality adds everything up. He's a valuable friend, and a trustworthy comrade that won't let his loved ones down. He usually keeps to himself, enjoying his own company. However loved ones, especially Spooky, always has a golden ticket to his little comfy bubble.
✖ OTHER FEATURES: Easily missed, though always there are his headphones. Cress often listens to music on his travels, given the Routes are usually very long and dull at times. ✖ SIBLINGS: Eres Gwendolyn Voltaire - Little sister.
✖ REGION: Johto, Ecruteak City
✖ HISTORY: Ever since childhood, Cress' world has been enlightened by these creatures called Pokémon whom enrich the world with their presence. The Pidgey's in the trees, the little rodents of the city corners, to the nocturnal mystifying ones coming out at night. With his family of four, mother, father and younger sister, his heart was content with where he was. There were 5 years separating Cress and his younger sister, Eris. His father was a Pokémon trainer, and Cress wanted to be just like him one day. During certain periods of time Dad would be out of town on his journeys, but would always return after a month's time or so. He almost always brought gifts back with him too, and sometimes even a Gym badge. But the fact never changed that under our family's roof, we could listen to his grand tales of adventure all night long. Dad was proud of his son and daughter, this he would tell them every time he came back to see their happy faces; They meant the world to him.
Time passes, and it doesn't seem too long until Cress advanced into the life of a teenager. It wasn't too common in his area for starting Pokémon trainers to leave at the age of 10, which explained how Cress hadn't left yet. Though being content with where he was, destiny had a different future in mind for him. The wheel of fate began to turn when Cress was 16 years old, at a time when he visited an old courtyard just outside the village.
The area was dim, the old trees letting past little rays of sunlight. Still it was bright enough to look around you. There were small gravestones by the trail of which he walked, and by the end of the trail stood a memorial cottage with a wishing-well in front of it. It was a shrine. The red roof complimenting the small structure of wooden beams, along with a bell attached on the entrance of the shrine. There was a rope hanging loose to enable ringing the bell, most commonly used after making a wish. Although he wasn't alone here. An old woman stepped out of the shadows behind him, holding a small bucket of water. Apparently she had been watering flowers by the graves when Cress walked in. She warned the boy not to get too close to the shrine, as it housed evil spirits, and then asked his motives for coming here. Although it started merely as a worry, the problem had become somewhat more troublesome. Cress had been sent here on an errand for his mother to meet this old lady to help them. There were people in their town complaining over lack of or inability to sleep because it felt like something was eating away at their dreams. Cress told the old woman all of this, and her face lit up in fear. She dropped the bucket of water and trotted toward him, clenching hold of his sleeve as she exclaimed in question for how long this had been going on. He told her there had been occurrences like these for several months now, and woman gasped horrifyingly as she ran for the exit of the courtyard. As she left she shouted at Cress to follow her. He was going to, but the bell above the wishing-well caught his attention again. As the lady trotted off, Cress approached the well and gazed at it vacantly. Slowly reaching out for the rope, he pulled it down, and the bell rang once. It was a long moment for him, until he realized nothing happened. He took a step back and sighed, turning his back to go after the old lady.
Beyond the darkness of the shrine's inner room, a round silhouette was set in motion. Surrounding it was a cloud of poisonous gas, which could be harmful to anyone inhaling it. The silhouette slowly levitated out of the shrine, circling the bell. The shadow then slowly left the courtyard by levitating off through the trees with increasing speed.
The afternoon was turning dark, and a sunset was at hand. Upon entering the town, Cress and the old lady was met with his Mom. In distress Mom called out to them and told them that the incidents just got more frequent, and rather than having problem sleeping, people were now unable to wake up. The old lady grinned as if she knew exactly what was going on, and she expressed a short, but loud, laugh as she commanded the Mom to lead them to the latest victim. And after a short run they arrived a local resident's house, Cress, his Mom and the old lady. His younger sister was home, and Dad had strangely enough not been home in several months. However the old lady took initiative and went inside, eventually coming across the living-room with the victim inside. The man was laying on a futon in a well-lit room, and 2-3 other close family residents were here as well. Outside, it was slowly growing darker as night settled in.
The old lady knelt down next to the sleeping man, who now seemed to be tossing at his sides like he was having a nightmare. The people in the room explained how they'd been unable to wake him up despite repeated tries. With a smug smile the old lady pulled out a pendulum of sorts, and held it over the victim as she cleared her throat and began chanting some incantation. The man let out an uncomfortable groan, until his breath suddenly eased up. Slowly, his eyes would open, and he leaned up. People in the room expressed surprise, and the old woman grinned with pride. There was a moment of relief among the residents, this would surely be the solution to their problem. Sadly, the old woman sighed and said just this, that the main cause of these incidents were not caused by anyone else but a psychic Pokémon. And until they could find it, the incidents would only reoccur. Cress pondered to himself what kind of Pokémon could do such a thing, he had never really seen any "evil" Pokémon with malevolent natures before. At that moment the reawakened man caught sight of Cress, and his eyes lit up like he had a revelation. He exclaimed Cress' name, and told him that he saw his younger sister Eris in his dream before waking up, and worried if there might be a connection. The old lady quickly confirmed this, when eating dreams psychic Pokémon tend to leave psychological traces of themselves like that as if all the victims are connected to each other when exposed to a psychic attack by a single source--allowing these glimpses to happen. His Mom let out a small scream as she quickly cupped her face with her hands, saying that Eris was home alone by herself right now.
In an instant Cress was out of the building and heading straight for his home, with calls of Mom and the old lady to wait ebbing out in the distance as he easily outran them. Was her life in danger? There was no way to know, but he didn't want anything to happen to her.
Darkness had fallen, the night was here. Slamming the door to his house open, he saw no one at first. He then heard his sister scream from upstairs, and he rushed up the stairs to her room only to be met by the most unexpected of creatures. A Hypno. His sister was crouched up against the wall on the other side, and the Hypno was between them. He had never seen one before, and other than the fact that they ate dreams for a living, he knew nothing. Though not directly hostile by nature, the Hypno was surprised by Cress' entrance and let out a devastating psychic attack that pushed him out back the door crashing into the hallway wall. The lights were out, and Cress could only see Hypno's outline by the light from the window now. The psychic attack hurt, and he reached out his hand with blurred vision wanting more than anything else to save his younger sister. He should have waited for the others, running in recklessly was too stupid, and now it was all too late...
Or so he thought.
A face appeared in front of Cress out of nothing, as if from nowhere. It was a Gastly. It let out it's cry and smiled, and Cress pushed his back to the wall in surprise. Where in the blazes had this ghost Pokémon come from?! Was it the source of these incidents as well? Wait, "ghost" Pokémon... Cress' face lit up, through his Dad's tales he had learned much about Pokémon physiology and their nature. Psychic Pokémon were weak to ghost type attacks. The Hypno began swinging it's pendulum, and Eris let out a scream again. At this Cress regained his posture and stood up, leaning to the wall behind him for support. The Gastly turned around to gain sight of the Hypno in the room in front of them, and Cress said Gastly's name. The Gastly reacted and shifted his gaze to him.
"Please Gastly, my sister... Can you... S-s-save her? You're a ghost Pokémon, so... P-please...!"
Cress, now leaning back against the wall, met Gastly's gaze. His hand reached out and cupped Gastly's side, it was a very tense moment that got more silent as Eris slowly fell unconscious to the attack by the psychic Pokémon. Cress' eyes expressed sadness, and the Gastly let out a gentle cry as it nodded affirmatively. Cress smiled in relief and got his posture back completely, both feet on the floor. He clenched his right fist and called out Gastly's name, the Pokémon responding and facing the Hypno in front of them. Hypno turned around and focused his attention on the ghost Pokémon. After a short silence, the Hypno raised his pendulum. And Cress called out something he didn't think would happen like this, for Gastly to attack. He knew almost none of Gastly's attack, after all Cress wasn't experienced in the ways of a trainer at all. But somehow this Gastly agreed to help, and responded to his voice. It was almost unbelievable. The Gastly ignored the Hypno's pendulum effortlessly and approached the psychic Pokémon swiftly, and at that very confrontational moment the Gastly licked Hypno with it's big tongue. Was it the deadly blow?! No, as a matter of fact the Hypno seemed more discomforted than hurt. And that wasn't all, the Hypno was paralyzed! Taking courage to heart, Cress raised his head and shouted for Gastly to knock Hypno out completely, the finishing blow! Just like that, the immobilized Hypno was hit directly by Gastly's hypnosis attack. Slowly the Hypno fell to the floor, not hurt or injured, but merely immobilized.
Cress let out a cry of victory and rushed to hug the Gastly in gratitude, the Gastly smiled and laughed in a goofy way. Cress then hurried over to his younger sister, as Gastly levitated next to them and paid close attention. Cress held his sister's upper body up in his arms and called out her name, after a few seconds she began to regain consciousness. Her hand clenching Cress' shirt as she called his name and hid her face in his chest as she started shedding tears, it was a really scary experience for her. No doubt, after all that...
That Hypno was eventually caught in a pokéball by the old lady when they entered the premises, she told them he wouldn't eat at any more people's dreams in this town. It was a happy ending at last, and in the midst of it all Cress had even gained a new friend, this Gastly that oddly enough didn't seem to want to leave his side.
Though one ending leads to another beginning, and his Dad had yet to return after being absent for many long months. With Gastly at his side, perhaps Cress could set out on a new life... as a Pokémon trainer.[/style][style=width: 455px; margin-top:13px; border-bottom:2px solid #101010;][/style][style=width: 445px; font-family: arial; color: 816f74;text-transform: lowercase; text-shadow: 0px 0px 2px #949494; letter-spacing: 2px; font-size: 8px; text-align: center;]THIS CHARACTER HAS BEEN CREATED BY ESTER.
