The sun loomed menacingly overhead, threatening to tempt the bundle of excess layers off of Alex's frame. The weather was relatively calm, offering only a light flurry of snowflakes to sprinkle Alex's jacket. He sighed quietly and brushed the accumulated snow from his person-- the cold was not something Alex tended to enjoy, but Alia seemed to be thoroughly entertaining herself by reveling in the crystalline water's chilly embrace; it was her excited demeanor that kept the youth from peeking in upon Faye's acquisition of her very first Pokémon. Alex figured that it was only fair that he allowed Alia to have her fun frolicking in the snow, as it was all-too-rare that she was allowed to return to the chill of her former natural habitat. Even though the small Pokémon had grown accustomed to travelling through warm climates at Alex's side, the two had silently agreed that a taste of home was a pleasant change of pace every now and again.
Alia and Alex both heard, then, the crunch of snow beneath shoes somewhere in the distance behind them-- specifically, coming from the direction of Professor Winter's heated laboratory. Pokémon and trainer alike assumed that it was Faye returning from her endeavor to receive her first pokemon; Alex naturally turned to smirk impishly at her before adding a playful, "Ah, so you've finally become one of the "cool kids." Alia, on the other hand, was not amused to see that Faye had returned so soon, and instead opted to slide into a large snow drift and seethe within the mound of cold powder.
"So! What'd you get?" Alex quirked a light-blue brow at his companion.

Pokemon Encounter!
A young buizel was watching the sneasel from the opposite bank (no rhyming intended). She curled and uncurled her tail apprehensively, unsure of whether or not to approach the ice type. She wanted to make a new friend, but this one seemed to be attached to a trainer. Would that mean she'd have to go with them? Did she even want to leave her home? Looking around she felt saddened by the snow. It made her feel cold and lonely because so many pokemon she knew were hibernating or had migrated.
Slipping skillfully into the water she swam over to the bank where the trainer and his pokemon stood. She kept all but her head below the water, not bothered too much by the cold. Would they see her? Maybe, maybe not... Well she orange after all, so why wouldn't they? Oh no, was she over analysing everything again..?

The Pokémon in her arms prevented her from attempting to digest Alexander's attempt at humor, which she presented to the boy with outstretched arms, Lion King-style. “Nelly, like the sea monster,” she continued pridefully despite her misinformation, giving the jacket a gentle shake so it slid to reveal the limpid gaze of a Feebas. It wasn't much of a looker- sullen eyes and a tight lipped pout, not complemented by the drab assortment of scales that speckled along its body. Oddly, a pink ribbon was secured around the base of Nelly's tail fin. The girl brought the Pokémon back towards her to cradle it in one arm as her free hand smoothed its tattered fins. “Where's Alia?” She suddenly remembered the existence of Alexander's Pokémon and scanned the snowy area for her. “ Maybe the two can play.”
Nelly [Nell] Species: Feebas, the Fish Pokémon Gender: Male Level: 5 Type: Water Ability: Swift Swim Attacks: Splash, Dragonbreath Met: Professor Winter's Lab, level 5 Hold Item: Pink Scarf Personality: Being not only Faye's first Pokémon but also the first Pokémon Faye has had the opportunity to personally interact with, this particular Feebas can be prone to several bouts of unorthodox care. (Not that it's any part of Faye's intention at all to harm him.) Reserved and introverted, Nelly can be considered calm and gentle in nature, though the predisposition of the species does tend to lean towards the vapid side and all natures that can be associated in that spectrum. Nelly is curious, often watching what Faye and others are up to, seeing that his experience is limited due to his fairly recent hatching. Faye finds his features charming and often carries him in her arms, intending for Nelly to explore the unknown world at the same time she is. Like all Feebas, Nelly is hardy in stature and prone to feeling at least a little unappreciated given their outward appearance, regardless of Faye's borderline-doting care for the Pokémon.
The origin of Nelly's name is a partial mix-up of the name Nessy on Faye's part, hearing of old Olivine tales of raggedy fish growing into formidable sea serpents that terrorize the unsuspecting boats that encroach upon their aquatic territories. The name, sometimes shortened to Nell, is more fitting for that of a female, but Faye's rather feminine nurturing is sure to leave the same manner of imprinting on the young Pokémon. Nelly looks to Faye as both mother and teacher, subjecting his authority and independence to that of the Olivine native's air-headed tutelage.

Alia was not presently amused with the situation; she had only been half-way paying attention before the group's departure and was caught unawares by Faye's sudden joining of their foreign expedition. After finding out that quite unfortunate affair, Alia had taken a small measure of solace in the fact that Faye would be reliant upon her for protection-- a fact that the Sneasel intended to abuse and hold over the absent-minded girl's head for the entirety of the journey. Now, from Alia's snowy hiding spot, she glowered even greater with the sight of Faye's own Pokémon. Given her natural vanity, Alia took a small amount of amusement in the fact that Faye's chosen Pokémon perfectly represented the person that Alia saw every time she looked upon Faye: ugly, dead-weight, dependent, and the list could have gone on. The Sneasel's attention was only drawn away, then, by the sudden emergence of a bright orange patch to her left; quickly, the dark/ice-type spun in her hiding place and slowly worked her way toward the approaching Buizel. Quietly, as if trying not to alert Alex and Faye to her movement and communication, Alia uttered a few words of pokespeak to the curious water-type: >Hey-- see that ugly trainer over there, with the fish? Help me take her pokeballs, and...< Alia trailed off and then vanished into the snow-drift for a moment, before emerging with a pokemon-sized, pink, scarf; she continued, >... I'll give you my scarf! It's too warm for me, but you look like you might like some extra warmth!< The Sneasel had to resist something similar to a smirk; this wild pokemon's appearance would work out to her own great amusement.
---
Meanwhile, Alex was busy chuckling at Faye's inability to recognize the sarcasm in his voice. He took a moment to observe the Feebas up close, and found it quite unimpressive. A shrug dismissed his doubts before he spoke again, "Looks like you could have picked better, but every Pokémon connects with its trainer in its own way. You're right- maybe having a Pokémon of your own will make Alia like you a bit more, if she sees that you can be just as good of a trainer as I am." With a grin present on his countenance, the teen spun about and immediately called out, "Alia! C'mere, Faye's got a new friend that I want you to meet!" He was entirely oblivious to his pokemon's more sinister plans.

[STYLE=border-bottom: 5px solid #FFC7FF;] [/style] The buizel was unsure of what to do in a situation like this, because she didn't think the trainer was ugly at all, although this sneasel was obviously a troublemaker. Yes, indeed, and she wasn't going to have any part of it as she then noticed the scarf she had for a moment. Why on Earth was she wearing something so beautiful, and the buizel's tail started to wag as it watched the scarf with eager eyes. Suddenly she nodded her head slowly, wondering what was wrong with luring her trainer away. So, the buizel had to do something very nasty at first, but she was almost too shy to approach the other trainers. Keeping her distance warily, but wanted that scarf a little too much. Asking questions would have just lead to more and then lead to a story. Wait, a story..she could sit around for that as she suddenly plopped down at that thought. It was time to ruin the ghost pokemon's fun as she then looked at the sneasel, Only if you're a good storyteller, I want to know why you think that trainer is ugly and what you could possibly do to tell me otherwise...unless you are jealous of the trainer? she asked curiously as her tail thudded against the ground softly. ::buizel:: Female level 4 Swift Swim Sonicboom - Growl - Water Sport - Quick Attack ~Timid - Over analyses everything - Has a habit of playing with her tail - Loves listening to other pokemon's stories~

(OOC Note: Alia is a Sneasel, not a Sableye xD)
The Sneasel narrowed her eyes at the upstart Buizel-- this wild Pokémon had the audacity to question a potential employer before performing her job? Though it was irritating at first, Alia realized shortly thereafter that Buizel could be an asset to her and her trainer, so she simply sat down and stared at the wild water-type. >Alright, you want to hear my side? Here's the deal-- My trainer, Alex, and I have been travelling together for a long time now, perhaps four or five years. We're partners for life, and we only work with others if they're smart enough to be our companions. Thing is, very few people are like that, and most of the ones that are prefer to be loners by themselves. Alex hasn't caught any other Pokémon 'cause he wanted to wait until we got to this region and would have the means to make sure that all of his Pokémon were well fed and allowed to live decently alongside him in his journey. We've had some rough times, he and I, but I've never had a complaint-- in fact, when we first met, I saved him from an Ursaring, then he rushed me to a center to be healed; that's just the kind of guy my trainer is. Before coming here, we met... her. She's not smart, she's not pretty, and she certainly can't pull her own weight. But...< Alia trailed off as a shade of doubt crossed her expression for a brief moment. Then, she continued >... He was fascinated with her. She's not as resourceful as us, and she hasn't been through the same stuff we have-- she's just a pampered city-human without knowledge of how the world works. Her bloat is weighing us down, but my trainer can't see that, so I'm trying to help him realize it-- or, at least, I'm trying to get her to show some intelligence and prove to be useful to our goals.< For another moment, the sneasel stopped her rant to consider what her water-type counterpart had suggested. Jealous? Of Faye? There was no way in hell that Alia was jealous of that blubber-brained, brine-breathed... Deep breaths, she reminded herself-- Faye's incompetence tended too frequently to work Alia into a ranting frenzy. Finally, she finished her explaination to the buizel, >I've got no reason to be jealous of her. After she's gone, I'll still be with my trainer. In the end, it'll only be Alex and his Pokémon who see the fruition of his journey, and most definitely not her.<
Alia seemed to dislike Faye. Maybe just a little.

she insisted a little drearily without any force behind her words. Perhaps that was why the girl had such an attraction to the image of Nelly's species on the poster in the lab- the two, it seemed, were common targets of doubt. Cast aside as liabilities at some point in their life (or multiple points) or other, both had the intention to prove something of themselves with no real or achievable means to do so. Most of Faye's intents bordered on the horribly wishy washy side of doing things and so never quite bore fruition. Like her new fish Pokemon, it was better- or rather customary- of her to go along with the flow, even if it was caused by doubtfulness pushing her down river. “I'll start training Nelly right now!” she started abruptly, scouting the snowy expanse for anything of note. What was Faye supposed to do to make the Feebas stronger? “...Do I just feed him?” She'd set Nelly on the ground and immediately the new Pokemon scooted to the human's ankles. Meanwhile Faye set down her packs to rummage through the contents of it, digging for any edibles packed among clothes and other things. [STYLE=border-bottom: 5px solid #FFC7FF;] [/style] The female buizel was nodding enthusiastically throughout the whole story and then let her eyes grow wide as she suddenly turned to bite at her tail. Starting to spin a circle as she chased it for a moment, well, until she got dizzy, and then stopped. Blushing a little, but then she put a thoughtful finger up to her chin walking back and forth starting to analyze this pokemon's story. I see I see, so you think that she's unattractive, not intelligent, and shouldn't be bothered with. As far as your trainer is concerned, I think it would be more up to him how to determine how this works, but what if he doesn't want to leave her no matter what you do? Just thinking of the possibilities...or would it be the same if she was another pokemon in general? she asked, and had obviously been over-analyzing this already. So what's the plan, I steal her pokeballs and run as far as I can? she asked, but she hadn't said she'd agree to do it, just wanted to get a lay out. After all, if she was going to be an accomplice to stealing, there might as well be a plan to back this up. I suppose I'll do this, because I really do like that scarft! she admitted finally as she couldn't stop staring at it. Maybe this sneasel wasn't so bad after all, and she was just trying to look out for her trainer. At least the buizel was a little too gullible, but she could understand the story from the sneasel's point of view. ::buizel:: Female level 4 Swift Swim Sonicboom - Growl - Water Sport - Quick Attack ~Timid - Over analyses everything - Has a habit of playing with her tail - Loves listening to other pokemon's stories~

Alex could not help but to offer Faye a quiet chuckle in response to her declaration. If she wanted to believe that she had picked the best of the starter pokemon, he wouldn't say the contrary-- though, the teenage male did wonder why such a seemingly useless pokemon was allowed to be a starter to begin with. He shrugged lightly and shifted his weight upon a single foot as he watched Faye demonstrate her complete lack of understanding in the pokemon world. "No, no... Well, yes, you do need to make sure that Nelly is properly fed, but training it involves much more than just putting it down and giving it food. You need to make sure that you have a proper diet for it first of all, because not all pokemon are like Alia and will eat pretty much anything you give them. Training involves pitting your pokemon in battle against another of equal or greater strength. Let me get Alia, and I'll engage you in your first battle!" Alex turned then and began searching for the oddly 'missing' Sneasel. She couldn't be too far from him...
---
Alia crossed her claws firmly over her chest at the wild Buizel's suggestions. >I don't just -think- those things, she -is- those things! And she won't stick with my trainer, nobody does for long. We do things differently than most, and a lot of humans find that bothersome. I give her a couple of weeks, at most. If she were a pokemon, though? She'd get treated real well by Alex, and she'd learn to do things as we did them. Pokemon are different from people when you think of other people. People can love all their pokemon the same, but another human can throw that all in a knot with their stupid romanticism. We've seen it happen before, and have even used it to our advantage. Regardless. then plan is that you just grab that...<
---
As Alex approached Alia's "hiding" spot, he began to notice that she was quite audibly engaged in conversation with... something. That alone struck the teenage trainer as odd, given that he hadn't seen the Sneasel interact too often with other pokemon with such... exuberance. When he finally arrived at the Sneasel's hiding place, he saw that Alia was speaking to a wild water-type. Instantly, he plucked his pokedex free of a pocket in his jacket and listened to the mechanized description of buizel. A water-type would certainly be a good addition to his team, and if Alia had already been working the angles... Alex smiled and lowered himself to a crouch. "Well, hello there little Buizel. Would you like a berry?"
Following through with his offer, the trainer reached slowly (as not to startle the wild water-type) into his bag and produced one Oran berry. He extended his hand and offered it to Buizel. "Go ahead, it's not poison or anything."

her lips drew into a frown rivaling that of Feebas's. Doting and worrisome, Faye couldn't imagine putting Nelly in any form of harm's way. She watched the fish Pokemon's shifting eyes and noticed that the other human had paced off in another direction. Gathering Nelly into her arms again, Faye rose and slowly plodded after Alexander, leaving her bag on the path. There, Faye found Alia interacting with a wild Pokemon, interest piqued as Alex crouched to interact with the creature. In the meantime, Nelly had other plans and began to wriggle in his trainer's arms. “You want to go in the water? It's cold!” Faye remarked before gingerly lowering the fish into the chilly water. Nelly's tattered fins billowed in the light current as he kept a watchful eye on the two nearby Pokemon, preferring the company of Faye too much to approach them.

[STYLE=border-bottom: 5px solid #FFC7FF;] [/style] The buizel nodded listening to her, but that was ruined when the trainer had spotted them. Surely looking at the food didn't really catch her interest this time as she moved further away from the trainer and ran off to the bushes. Then she made a zig-zag patter as she creeped away from the trainer even more hiding behind the tree as she used her paws to look out at him. I-I'm not hungry. she said timidly, obviously shy around the trainer, but she had been just fine with the sneasel up until then. It was very easy to tell she didn't trust humans all that well, but even so she had her tail up in her paws now idly fidgeting with it. Letting her eyes wander over to the trainer's every so often hoping he would go back to what he was doing. At least she hadn't run off completely from the fear of the other trainer. The other water type had the buizel interested, but not enough to go talk to it, although she was very curious why he didn't join them. So instead she started to slowly saunter towards the fish-like pokemon being weary of the female trainer as she was being very sneaky. Trying to just move over on all fours like a cat did when they were trying to sneak away from someone slinking all the way down to the ground so it was hard to pick them up. Then she was about five inches away from the fish pokemon before whispering up to it, Sssssh...why aren't you talking with us! she asked, soon standing on her hind legs again, wagging her tail lightly. ::buizel:: Female level 4 Swift Swim Sonicboom - Growl - Water Sport - Quick Attack ~Timid - Over analyses everything - Has a habit of playing with her tail - Loves listening to other pokemon's stories~

Alex watched the timid buizel's actions with interest. He couldn't rightly blame her for being as cautious as she was around humans, though he assumed that any other trainers that she might have encountered were heavy-handed enough to have made their move by this part. Still, he retracted the berry when it was declined and silently observed the pokemon's vivacity. It seemed to enjoy interacting with his and Faye's pokemon more than either trainer themselves, and he again found that he couldn't blame the water-type. He shot a glance immediately at Alia, telling the sneasel that he was interested in the otter-like pokemon before him and that she should step up and continue interacting with the water-type. --- On cue, Alia stepped forward and pushed her way past both trainers (but not before shooting Faye a glare) and settled herself on the shore-line beside the buizel and feebas. >This one's the ugly woman's first pokemon. Not much of a looker, either, but maybe it's got some intellect behind that ugly mug of its?< Alia allowed herself the sneasel equivalent of a chuckle. >What about you, Buizel? Why don't you tell us some about yourself, since you seem to be so inquisitive?<.

the Feebas began timidly, sinking a little into the water as the Buizel assumed her full height. It seems today was one big stressful day of change for the rather sensitive Pokemon, first being supplanted from its home in the lab into the hands of the girl named Faye Ward, and then seeing these strange lands and even stranger Pokémon! Such a sheltered specimen was Nelly that even the waters felt unfit compared to the regulated conditions in the lab, not to mention his inexperience communicating with fellow Pokémon. Mustering up some courage, Nelly finished, I didn't know you wanted to talk to me...Nelly's personal insecurities only worsened with Alia's arrival. He'd recognized through brief glimpses that this Pokémon was partners with Faye's human friend. Judging by her appearance (as many do to Feebas) the Sneasel was up to no good, and the fish Pokemon's rubbery lips pursed even tighter. Nelly sank even deeper into the icy waters as Alia spoke, first insulting his trainer then himself. The depth garbled the words spoken above the water's surface, giving Nelly some brief solace as he closed his eyes, a bitter cocktail of despair and anger stinging his senses. Nelly had already taken a liking to Faye, despite their brief time together. To him, the girl was awfully genuine, considerate, and determined, wishing only the best for Nelly. Not many had offered to do that for a Feebas. To be unable to defend her name only quickened Nelly's distraught downward spiral of self pity.

< uh.. lets see. i was born down there. i've been living with my family for as long as i can remember. and i love to play! > she said, though thought a bit more. she didn't really have anything to say about herself. she was more interested in learning about these adorable couple! they looked like a couple, anyway. < d'aww. you two are a cute couple, by the way. > she smiled.

Alia's expression tightened into a firm grimace. This buizel thought that her and this ugly... thing were a couple? She had to force herself to not gag. >We're not a couple.< She very flatly corrected the wild pokemon, then quickly changed the subject in an attempt to cleanse that terrible image from her mind. >So, you've lived with your family all your life? Haven't you ever wanted to get out and, you know, explore the world?< Alia's head cocked slightly to the side; her interest entirely shifted away from the abysmal thought of a relationship with the quite, well, derpy looking feebas. After a moment of contemplating, Alia continued: >You know, if you wanted to see the world, you could always come with us. Alex is a good guy and makes sure that we're all taken good care of, even that ugly woman; and we're off to see the pokemon league and beyond-- you'd be sure to meet a whole lot of pokemon along the way!< Alia's salesperson face emerged.

The fish Pokemon's 'what the hell are you on?' glance only worsened as the Buizel continued, commenting on how he and Alia were a pair. The Feebas looked pained then confused. Yes, this Buizel ought to consider Alia's suggestion, if only to keep her in a Pokeball so he wouldn't hear any of her cooky remarks! [/ul]

Perhaps she ended up overanalyzing the female after all, only making her feel bad for looking so much into things. Tails twisted around each other anxiously for emotional support, leaving her to stare nervously at the ground until she could recover with the Sneasel's next line. Now that gave her something to work with, perking up because it was something she could talk about. <I've thought about it...but the more I think about it, the harder it is to get motivated. I think and think and think.> She explained, tapping herself on the head as an explanatory gesture. Seeing the world did sound like fun, though the gossip and rumors told her that trainers often spent a lot of time in the same place. Usually that meant being in route one for quite a while, which was a place she knew rather well. <I think it would be nice to break out of this habit though.> She mused, smiling towards the Sneasel with the idea swimming around in her head. She liked the appeal of it at the very least, but there was something she wanted to look into for sure. <There's a place I always wanted to go. I've never been to Verona before, and I hear things from humans.> She explained, having a wistful look in her eyes as she talked about it. <I've always wanted to try the food. Sometimes trainers bring small scraps over here, but I really want to go there someday.> It would've seemed like a silly goal to any native in Cheyenne, but to a Pokemon like her, going to Verona was not such a simple task. She had no idea where it even was! If this trainer could somehow take her to the city, she'd be more than pleased. It appeared that she had a little bit of trouble hearing the Feebas's comments, only giving Nelly a glance before focusing more on the Sneasel. The dark type was so entertaining! Yet there was someone out there that seemed to have a particular attraction to the fish, swimming quietly besides Nelly with a cute little wiggle of his tail. <Sssss...snake. I'm a sea serpant.> The Caterpie hissed in warning, trying to scare the Feebas off with his childish expression. ::BUIZEL:: Female level 4 Swift Swim Sonicboom - Growl - Water Sport - Quick Attack ~Timid - Over analyses everything - Has a habit of playing with her tail - Loves listening to other pokemon's stories~

Nelly glared, fins and gills flaring. His stance softened though and Nelly's features changed into curiosity. You're not a sea serpent. Why are you swimming? Common sense overrode the fish Pokemon's inexperience as he deducted that this insect Pokemon was not quite born to swim. [/ul]

Alia's attitude seemed to brighten immediately as the buizel took her offer of companionship into further consideration. The creature seemed bright, if not a little presumptuous-- but Alia knew that such little quirks would inevitably endear the water-type to Alex, and it would therefore be a non-factor later into their journey. >Verona City? We're going to end up there after we finish this Route. My trainer mentioned something about Verona being accessible from any other city in the region, and I know that he wanted to peek at the wares in the shops there, so... We'd be glad to bring you along with us! There is, however, one stipulation...< The Sneasel interrupted herself that she could scurry toward Alex and pull one of his empty pokeballs free from his belt. When she returned, she dropped the enlarged sphere on the bank before buizel. >My trainer needs allies to join him in his journey to become the champion, and to challenge his mother-- but, they have to be considered 'his pokemon' according to the human's silly rules and regulations. You'd have to let yourself get, well, captured in this pokeball. Don't fret, though-- Alex keeps me out of the ball more than in, 'cause he thinks that it's a little twisted to keep pokemon trapped in the balls all the time. So, you'd still have plenty of freedom along the way!< Alia seemed to be quite pleased with her declaration and remained entirely oblivious to the emerging "sea monster" near Nelly.
[Sorry for the really late post, I've been busy with a handful of things-- humans versus zombies on campus being one of them. >.>]

BUIZEL & CATERPIE APPEARED ! Buizel was taken by the Sneasel's words. She seemed like she was a professional at persuasion. Of course, the Buizel was taking her description with a grain of salt, but she did make the offer more enticing than it actually was. She rubbed her chin as she considered it, eyes running over the pokeball that the Sneasel dropped in front of her. <Hmm...> She hugged her tail to herself, continuing to think. She had no way to gauge if the Sneasel was lying, so this was a bit of a gamble. <It is sort of dull in the wild. All I do is talk to trainers' Pokémon.> She shrugged. <Why not, I guess.> She smiled at Alia and Nelly before clicking the button on the pokeball and allowing herself to be captured.
Meanwhile, mister slithery Caterpie was having fun harassing Nelly. He laughed when the fish quickly swam away from him, rippling the water enough to push him away on a gentle current. <I do what I want!> He replied with a snarky grin before answering the fish's question. <For your information, I am a sea serpent. Built for swimming! My mom, the Lochness Monster, told me so!> He chortled. <I can swim if I want. It's a free country.> He huffed, paddling even harder as if he was proving his point.
