It was a nice day, the sun was shining pretty well and there was a slight breeze which kept things nice and cool. Not that many people seemed to be around so it was quiet in a nice calm way. Those that were around at this time had their destinations in mind already as they headed to where they needed to go.
One person was thinking the same thing, a teenager named Kristen. He walked along the road with one destination in mind, the Pokémon lab. He would be able to get his starter there just like he had when he'd journeyed through Kanto a few years ago. Actually it had been quite a while since he'd been on a journey, he was beginning to think he could be losing his touch at training. It had taken him over a year to get through the region, infact not far fom two years which he guesed was longer than most people. But he'd been more focused on seeing the world rather then beating everything so a lot of his time was spent just being there. He'd managed to get all the badges and he still kept them with him to this day as a reminder. He'd put the case for them in his bag, along with his new case for whatever badges he'd get here in this region.
Even though he never finished things off in Kanto he wasn't ready to go back there, he wanted to see more of the world. Maybe when he really thought he was ready he would go against his own home region, although Unova was the lowest of his list.
A peck on the cheek had him snapping out of his daydreams, the guilty party sitting on his shoulder happily. Smiling, Kristen gave the pidgey a quick stroke before looking ahead again. He'd found Lazzy on the final days of his journey when he was thinking of going back home instead of going against the league. The little pidgey had been badly injured and had almost given up when Kristen found him. His wing was still broken now, Kristen was no Pokémon doctor, but it was better. Hopefully it would heal enough to let the little guy fly again at some point. Of course, Lazzy was the only Pokémon he brought with him. He'd chosen to keep an eye on him and maybe see if someone else could look at him at some point. He was refusing to let him battle of course, there was no way he'd put the little guy in danger like that. He wanted him to heal not never be able to fly.
He snapped out of his thoughts again when he almost walked into a sign. Stepping back slightly he looked through his glasses to read it. One way led to where he wanted to go to get his starter, the lab. But his curiosity took the better of him as he started walking in the other direction. Ranger Station it had said, and he just wanted to see what it was.
As he got closer his mouth practically dropped to the ground in shock at the size of the big circus-like tent. He walked closer, just staring up. In fact he'd nearly forgotten all about the lab, suddenly this was where he wanted to go. Lazzy peced at his cheek again and Kristen suddenly looked forward rather than up. He could see some Rangers about and suddenly he wanted to know what this was. Hey, maybe he could even get his starter here.

RANGER RAY & AKRY::rangerm:: One of the rangers wandering about noticed Kristen approaching the tent. He calmly lifted a finger to his lips and let out a sharp whistle. For a second nothing happened, just silence. And then from the nearby wilderness a crashing sound was heard. And then a huge crack, rustle of leaves, and Arky the Arcanine appeared. He leapt out of the brush and slid to a stop beside Ray. His tongue was panting and his eyes were bright and happy. The love for his trainer obvious. Ray chuckled happily and rubbed his dog's muzzle. He stepped to the dog's side and lifted himself onto Arky's shoulders. Then the pair walked over to greet Kristen. "Hello." Ray's voice was soft and calm. Arky barked his hello. "Can we help you?" He asked. He had a suspicion that this trainer was looking for a poke'mon, a partner to his Pidgey. But Ray always liked to ask, just to be sure.

Kristen stopped not too far from the large tent, looking up at it again. It really was big, he didn't think he'd seen anything like it before. Even in Kanto he'd never really seen a tent this big, of course you wouldn't expect to usually and that's one of the things that confused him.
Although, seeing as it was so close to the lab he assumed it either did the same sort of thing or was just somewhere else you could check out. Well there was only one real way to find out and that was through checking it. And that was what he was there to do, to check and to see if this was just another place he could start his journey. He reminded himself quickly to research a place next time he was going on a journey. He didn't want to go through this again where he knew nothing about where anything was, he needed to have some knowledge before he could properly see where it all was in his travels.
A sound suddenly snapped Kristen out of his thoughts this time, Lazzy looking completely innocent for once. Of course the pidgey had been close to a little peck again but he wasn't going to show that to Kristen who was looking around for the source of the slight crashing sound he was sure he heard. It didn't occur to him that it was a Pokémon or ranger or anything like that. Not until he suddenly looked ahead again and saw one of the said rangers riding on the shoulders of an arcanine.
Luckily the Ranger spoke calmly and Kristen was quickly out of his shocked state. Lazzy stood to attention on his shoulder, although it didn't look like much seeing as the bird was so much smaller than the average pidgey. But still he watched the Ranger and Fire type carefully.
Kristen noticed this tension in the bird, as if he could just tell from them being so close and knowing how the other reacted to things, and stroked him carefully to keep the little one relaxed.
"I was wondering if I could get a starter here?" He guessed it was probably best to just outright ask, even if it wasn't the right place and he had to say sorry and walk off with his head high. Even if it wasn't a place he could get a starter he was happy to find out what it was.

Ray's smile expanded as Kristen spoke. A starter. Exactly what Ray expected from him. He wasn't bothered by it at all. In fact he was excited about this. He loved partnering trainers with new poke'mon. It was like he was a matchmaker. "Of course, we'd be glad to help." Ray said, reaching down his hand to the trainer so that he could hoist him up onto Arky's strong back as well. "Let's take Arky here out deep into the wilderness, we'll see if we can find you something special." Ray suggested. But then he noticed how troubled the Pidgey seemed being around Arky. He considered for a moment that maybe this wasn't the best idea... but he would have to trust the trainer to decide what was best for his Pidgey. Either way he and Arky would be off here shortly to get a poke'mon for Kristen, whether he decided to come with them on the trip or not.

Kristen definitely looked shocked from hearing that, he had not expected to find out this was the right place to be, infact he was so shocke he really did forget completely about the lab. If he could get a starter here he didn't need to go to the lab anyway.
At the offer to get onto the Arcanine, Lazzy seemed to de-relax more. However Kristen continued to pet the bird, he knew the flying type didn't like new people that much especially not if they got too close to either of them. However, Kristen had always been a friendly person who got close to someone very quickly. Perhaps that was one of the main things that the two didn't agree on, despite them being so close.
He took the Rangers hand to help him on the fire type and smiled. Lazzy pecked at his cheek, although he took it playfully, and just watched the Ranger carefully.
"Sorry, Laz is a bit nervous around new people." Kristen nodded slightly towards the Ranger in apology, He really wanted to see what kind of starter he could end up with.

“ That’s fine don’t worry about it,” the ranger nodded lightly and then soon Akry was bringing them a pokemon. “ Ah it looks like Akry found you something, hold on I got something else for you as well,” he said as he pulled out a small kit and turned to hand it to the boy. “ Here you go! A starter kit! May it help you as you set off onto Route One! And nice job on getting a scraggy,” he smiled lightly as he took out a pokeball, and tapped it on the scraggy the arcanine had brought and then he held that pokeball out to the trainer. “ Well good luck on your journey!” he nodded lightly. Kristen nodded again, glad Lazzy's behaviour hadn't been too much of a problem. It wasn't that the bird was nervous around new people though, it was more if he wasn't close to you and you were within the range of the personal bubble then he was not happy with you. Maybe it had something to do with how things were before Kristen found him, he'd never found out actually. He was oka with just getting close to the pokemon himelf and the two being great friends. Even if they had conflicted feelings about how to treat new people.
When the starter kit was held out to him, Kristen took it carefully with his free hand and looked at it. So this was what he was starting with, all that he'd need for now would be in that kit. He quickly looked up when a pokemon was mentioned, one he'd admit he'd never heard of before in his journeys. But then again he hardly knew any pokemon outside of Kanto and possibly Johto, and those he did know in Unova were few as well. Of course he'd researched all he could about flying types when he was originally helping Lazzy, so he knew practically all of them which he was just happy with. He watched the pokemon disappear into the pokeball and had to stop stroking the Pidgey for a while to take it. This was it, his starter. Even though he had Lazzy with him, it would be this little pokemon who he trained with most. Of course, another addition to the team of friends.
"Thank you, I didn't think I'd be able to get a starter here to begin with." He grinned slightly, something he'd gotten into the habit of every now and then. It was long before he'd be on his way though. He had a route to get to, and after that a region to explore.
The teen gave a wave to the Ranger, and quickly put the pack in his temporary bag. He needed somewhere to put it, he couldn't just carry it around everywhere he went. He could sort out where it went and everything like that once he got a time to relax or just got some time in general.
"Well, this is it Lazzy." He looked down at the pokeball and smiled, giving one more quick look back at the Ranger Station. This was definitely it. The start.
