[/div] Nina never thought she would be so excited to be awake at the crack of dawn.
Of course, it was a very special day for her. She was getting her first Pokemon, her journey was about to start, and after spending the prior evening on a cramped airplane she was just dying to get out and do something. She ignored the looming grey clouds that hung ominously overhead as she stood outside of her hotel trying to decide where to go. There were these ranger station things where you could catch your own Pokemon; that sounded promising, but Nina had heard talk that a few of the rangers were rather... interesting folks, to say the least. And besides, the Pokemon lab seemed like a more traditional route, like it was an essential part of the sacred 'first Pokemon right of passage' or something. Nina opted for the lab, considering that it seemed like a more logical choice to get her first Pokemon from some kind of expert than a bunch of Rocky Horror-esque weirdos camped out in a couple of tents.
Nina advanced toward the lab as thunder began to rumble in the distance. Maybe a tank top and a pair of basketball shorts weren't the best choice of clothes for today, but Nina wasn't going to complain. Besides, it was her favorite shirt, there was no way she wouldn't wear it on this very special day. But she did sincerely hope she didn't get rained on by the time she made her way with her new Pokemon to the first route to have a couple of battles. Nina couldn't help but shudder at the thought of her first Pokemon battle; she was going to kick some much ass and have the best Pokemon team ever and- Her train of thought came to an abrupt halt as she found herself at the entrance of the laboratory. This was it, the moment of truth, where destiny took the reigns and fate had finally smiled upon the adolescent girl. This was the beginning of grand adventures of heartwarming highs and heartbreaking lows. And not to mention that this was the moment that she'd first write about in her memoirs when she became an incredibly famous and successful Pokemon master of the entire universe!
Okay, now was not the time for theatrics. Now was the time for action, so with a surge of excitement, Nina entered the lab and called out to whomever was waiting inside, "Yo, anyone home?" looks like you don't have any pokemon yet! word count: 423 words music: disney medley by the doo wop shop notes: gah, not nearly as many words as i would have liked orz

pkmn professor encounter! professor winter was not excited to be up at the crack of dawn. what in the name of all that was good and right with the world was going on here? he would be rather appreciative if the youth of the cheyenne world could at least wait until lunchtime to come barging in and wake him from his restful slumber. and of course, lazy good-for-nothing assistants didn't even turn their sorry asses up until at least midday so he was all alone. rolling out of bed and putting on some fluffy old man slippers and his lab coat, winter shuffled from his room towards the foyer where he might receive this newest addition to cheyenne's trainers. "welcome!" he said, trying to be as friendly and nice as possible, but his gruff, haven't-brushed-my-teeth, morning voice made him sound grumpier than usual. clearing his throat, he said, "here for a pokemon, i presume? have you had a chance to see our carefully chosen selection? each with a rare-bred egg move, might i add." winter was mighty proud of his specially bred pokemon and took pride in handing them out to trainers. smiling gently, he tried to cover a yawn with a hand and crossed one slippered foot over the other as he leaned against the doorframe, indicating the girl should go inside and check out the pokemon in boxes before her. when all this was over he was going to head back to bed like a beartic in hibernation, ready to wake up at a much more suitable time of the morning. or afternoon.

[/div] Aw geeze, she woke him up. Nina couldn't help but feel kinda bad for waking the guy up so rudely, especially considering how unkempt he looked right now. But hey, the guy was going to have to wake up sometime, right? Besides, he's a Pokemon professor, he probably expected twerps to come barging into his place at all hours,
"Yeah, g'mornin' ta you too!" Nina replied amicably, "That's right, Doc, here for my first Pokemon." This guy certainly didn't look like any Pokemon professor that Nina had ever heard of. Weren't they supposed to be old-timers or something? At least this guy had the white hair and lab coat down pat. The slippers were certainly unprofessional, but Nina could totally respect the choice of something comfy in place of whatever formal type of shoes these guys were supposed to wear.
At the man's indication, Nina stepped past him and into the foyer and eyed the Pokemon in the boxes before her. She hadn't expected there to be so many to choose from; she had only expected the commonplace three starters of grass, water, and fire types. This place was certainly a lot different than anything Nina was ever used to, but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing. She scanned her eyes over the Pokemon, suddenly completely unsure of which one she wanted. She had only thought there were going to be three and had already decided to pick whichever one was the fire type, but now that she had a bit more variety the decision was that much harder. She only recognized a few of the different species that stood before her. Maybe she should go with something that she knew, like Magby or Sandshrew. The candle-looking Pokemon looked kind of interesting; maybe it was a fire type Pokemon? And then there was that thing that looked like an over-sized cat/ferret hybrid with some of the sharpest claws that Nina had ever seen. There was even this thing that looked kind of like a large pigeon and Nina couldn't tell if it was a real Pokemon or just a common bird.
After a couple of moments of staring at the assortment of Pokemon, her eyes fell on a little green dinosaur of a creature that Nina was definitely familiar with. It was a Larvitar from the region of Johto. She had seen these little guys on a couple of occasions when she was home in Saffron City when trainers from the region came over on the Magnet Train. Even though it wasn't a fire type, Nina knew these little guys could pack a punch, not to mention that this one looked like a cute little guy. Not to mention that rock types could definitely take a hit if they needed to. Yeah, this Pokemon seemed like the perfect candidate. Beaming, Nina turned and called back to the professor, "Hey Doc, I'll take this one- the Larvitar!" looks like you don't have any Pokémon yet! word count: 483 words music: eye of the tiger by survivor notes: thank you for modding my thread! <3

Winter turned around as Nina walked past him and through the doorway to explore the poke'mon offered. He stood up, turned, and then leaned back against the doorway. While Nina was exploring the poke'mon he yawned a bit more openly, his mouth wide enough to catch some flies. He pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose and waited in silence while she considered all the options presented to her. Not only was he proud of the quality of the poke'mon he offered here, but he was also very proud of the diversity of types he offered here. He wasn't one of those old school labs where he offered a grass, water, and fire type. He had a huge selection open to her and there was no rule about how much time she could take, he could be here all day if she took that long to select. He worried he might not get around to his nap very soon at all.
Fortunately before he could finish daydreaming about how he might be here forever she piped back in with her request. A Larvitar. The Professor nodded and reached over to the nearby desk. On it was a pile of starter packs for new trainers. It contained everything they would need to get started, it was a nice advantage, a thank you for coming to the lab if you will. He took up a pack and handed it over to Nina before he turned to the list on the wall, putting a little mark to indicate another Larvitar was given away, he then picked up the poke'ball belonging to Larvitar he handed it over to Nina. "You won't be disappointed with this little guy." He promised.
LARVITAR STATS: LEVEL: 5 ABILITY: guts TYPE: rock / ground ATTACKS: bite - leer - sandstorm - stomp STARTER PACK: x 1 x 1 x 1 x 5 x 3 x1

[/div] Aw yeah, this was going to be awesome! Nina gleefully accepted the Pokeball and the starter pack, shoving the latter into her backpack unceremoniously. What was she going to name this little guy? Was it even male? What if it was a female Larvitar? That would kind of be a bummer since her first idea of a name was a male one. Maybe now wasn't the best time to go off on some internal tangent and get the hell out of dodge before the weather outside changed for the worse. As if to reaffirm that thought, the deep sound of rolling thunder suddenly sounded in the distance and seemed to reverberate throughout the lab. Yeah, it was definitely time to get the hell outta dodge.
"Thanks a lot, Doc! I gotta get goin', but maybe we'll meet again sometime if this whole 'Pokemon master' thing takes off," she chuckled with the grin on her face. She thought about hugging the guy as happy as she was, but he probably wasn't coherent enough for that. So she scurried out of the lab as the first droplets of rain began to fall, too happy and excited to even give it a thought. looks like you don't have any Pokémon yet! word count: 200 words music: the final countdown by europe notes: i guess that's it for this thread. thanks a lot, guys! c:
