~Appearance~
Murasaki is a somewhat tall, lanky woman. Rarely if ever does she look to be in good health, but reassures those around her that she’s quite fine. Her face is a touch on the angular side and a little gaunt. Two dark circles under her eyes are the result of being an insomniac, as she doesn’t often get a good night’s sleep. Her skin is rather pasty to the degree where little children might mistake her for a vampire and she tends to burn instead of tan if in the sun for too long. Her hair has a greasy sheen to it and reaches about a third of the way down her back. It’s almost always kept back in a purple hair comb.
She carries around three sets of clothes with her at any given point in time, but she prefers an outfit consisting of a black t-shirt underneath a trench coat, with jeans on the bottom. Additional sets of clothes and supplies are stored in a black bag she slings over one shoulder.
~History~
Many would have considered Murasaki a lucky child when growing up. Her parents, both scientists, worked at Cinnabar Island’s two labs -- the mansion and the standard lab respectively. However, Murasaki’s interests were always different from her parents, and she felt that she was disappointing them. While they saw the sciences as an excellent career choice, she gravitated towards the arts. Fortunately, they were accepting of her choice and supported it.
In high school, her life began to take a downward spiral, and it all started with a tiny demon rolled up inside a piece of paper -- tobacco. She had always been a part of the “in” crowd, at least since the middle of her elementary school life, and when it came to trying new things, she was a relentless daredevil. Believing no harm would come from a single cigarette, she tried it, and it wound up becoming a crippling addiction that would ruin her well being.
One cigarette led to another, and another, and so on. The only easy way to obtain them was from some of the shady kids at school, and she was able to afford her fill on a meager allowance, but as the addiction became worse, she started sneaking money from her parents’ wallets.
When they found out, they were infuriated, and it was the beginning of a rocky relationship with them. Due to the stench of tobacco sticking to her clothes, they had constantly been suspicious, but this was the nail in the coffin. Fortunately for her, she was nearing the age where she could legally be on her own, and as soon as her eighteenth birthday came, she left, leaving her mother and father behind. She had know way of knowing it would be the last time she’d see the latter.
For the following year, Murasaki made a living as a full-time employee at the PokeMart, making a meager wage that was hardly enough to afford room and board. She had lost the boundless energy of her youth and was beginning to stumble into depression. That was around the point when the news struck.
On the front page of the local paper, she was informed that there was a disastrous lab failure at the Pokemon Mansion, her father’s workplace, and that most of the employees had been killed. All that was left of the man who had helped give her life was a corpse and the sketchy notes about genetic experiments that had been taking place. She attempted reconciliation with her mother after the accident, but she accepted none of it.
The next three years were spent in relative solitude, and while she was put to work at the PokeMart, she was also investigating what had happened to her father. Once it was finally determined that the place was not a biohazard, she slipped in one evening to find a gold mine of notes, as well as an abandoned Pokemon that came to her for companionship. She pieced together the evidence in private, trying to get in contact with any of the others who had been employed at the lab. After a year of searching, she was only able to track down rumors of a single individual, and he was well across the ocean. For the following two years, she saved up money to travel to a far off region by boat, a place known as Cheyenne.
~Interactions with Pokemon~
Most people in this world think of Pokemon as their friends and companions, creatures to be respected and treated as equals. Murasaki is not one of those people.
From a young age, she came to look down at Pokemon. Her parents, both being scientists, did regular experiments on them. Neither of them were overly supportive of treating Pokémon the way they did, but saw it as a necessity, that they should be sacrificed for science as opposed to people. That worldview was something that affected Murasaki to her core. She was not afraid of Pokemon. Rather, she saw them as something usable, with little to no emotions of their own.
However, the Koffing she’s currently partnered with has helped to change that mindset somewhat, as she can see its emotions with some degree of difficulty. Still, she sees her Koffing as an exception to the rule as opposed to the norm.
~Personality~
- Determined: When she sets her mind to a specific goal, she’ll rarely back down from it. However, she’s still interested in self-preservation above all else.
- Spiteful: Mostly towards Pokemon. As a general rule, she doesn’t view them as anything important.
- Unathletic: Murasaki is asthmatic thanks to her smoking. As a result, she can’t run or walk for terribly long periods of time and finds difficulty in exerting herself.
- Insomniac: Her insomnia is crippling, to the point where she’s almost always tired.
- Cynical: For Murasaki, the glass is half empty.
- Opportunistic: The glass may be half empty, but that doesn’t mean she can’t drink it. She’ll take whatever life throws her way and make something out of it.
- Snarky: Rude, offhanded comments are a specialty of Murasaki’s. She’s not afraid to let the world know what she really thinks.
~Pre-starter Information~
Murasaki’s Koffing, Smoker, has had quite a history before he met her. Even while it was a well-kept research facility, the Pokemon Mansion has had trouble with vermin; only their vermin are more than just the typical Ratatta and Raticate. As Cinnabar Island is situated on top of an active volcano, the local Pokemon tend to be attracted to its heat and noxious fumes. One of the Pokemon hiding out in the Pokemon Mansion was Smoker.
Smoker was a rather curious Koffing in his youth and caused trouble in the lab on one occasion. All of the other scientists reasoned that he should be thrown out or used as a sort of guinea pig, but Dr. Kemuri, Murasaki’s father, took it under his wing. The Pokemon was kept as a sort of pet in the lab’s basement, away from most of the technical equipment. However, he still developed a strong relationship with Dr. Kemuri.
When there was an incident at the lab, the area was immediately deemed a biohazard, and sealed off from the public, Pokemon still inside. When it was finally deemed safe for humans to enter it, Murasaki slipped in to find the Pokemon clustered around her father’s belongings. Immediately, Smoker felt a connection to the young woman, in place of the man he didn’t yet know was deceased. Murasaki herself believed the Pokemon to be a part of the puzzle and took it under her wing.
The twosome formed a somewhat awkward pair after it was made clear that Smoker had absolutely nothing to do with the incident. Murasaki kept Smoker because he was one of the few mementos of her father; Smoker accepted her because she reminded him of the man he once knew.
Despite this, Smoker has often been a target of Murasaki’s anger, a punching bag to take her frustration out on. Smoker himself isn’t sure what to think of her sometimes, but still feels obligated to remain with her.
~Goals in Cheyenne~
Murasaki’s foremost goal is to track down any information about the project at the Pokemon Mansion
