Hair – As far back into history as can be recollected, the men in Azria’s family have all shared one dominant genetic trait that is very uncommon with most of the world. They all have blue hair in varying shades. The genes that cause such a color have never been pin-pointed, but Azria is no exception to this rule. His hair has been a light blue since he was a very young boy. To help accentuate his cerulean locks, Azzy has taken to dying the sides and back of his short hair to a much darker blue color. He keeps his hair relatively short, and neat. He suffers from a cowlick in the front of his hair that constantly keeps the front of his hair stuck up straight in the air.
Eyes – As with his hair, the dominant eye color in Az’s family is blue, and he cannot escape that. Of course, he doesn’t mind the hue. Ever since his youth, people have commented on the brightness of his big, azure irises. The young man’s eyes are a very expressive physical feature, and he often uses them to say the things that he doesn’t say with words.
Clothing – One would think that a boy who’s defining physical features are dominated by a single color would try and avoid anything else associated with that color, but Azzy’s come to see the color blue as an integral part of himself. It represents his personality and his style, so often times he chooses one or two garments of bright blue, and wears them to further accentuate his natural features. The rest of his clothes, t-shirts and pants and things, are almost always of neutral or earth tones. Azria’s personal style is a conglomeration of appearance and functionality. He likes to dress light, in a simple pair of jeans or khakis and a t-shirt, but will often don a jacket that looks stylish while being durable and full of pockets.
Physical Description – As far as build goes, Azria is a very average kid. He’s not exceptionally tall for his age, nor is he exceptionally strong. In fact, when he was much younger, the slight, willowy build of his body often led Azzy to being bullied by stronger children. His slender size allows for a heightened grace though, and Azria moves with the kind of agility not common in kids that are going through puberty. Az’s face is still trapped between the features of a boy, and the features of a man. His eyes still seem to be a bit too big for his head, and he’s somewhat self-conscious of his appearance. The exotic color of his hair though, seems to attract certain members of the opposite gender, and Azzy has on several occasions had to shoo away females who had been playing with his hair.
--Persona
Personality – Azria Ashford is typed as having an INTP personality when measured with the standard sixteen type-system used by most psychologists. INTP stands for Introverted, Intuitive, Thinking, and Perceiving. Azzy’s mind is his strongest asset, and through genetic chance, and conditioning he’s grown to use it well. He lives in a world of theoretical possibilities, and can see how to improve on things with just a glance.
This does not mean that he is a perfect creature. Az is replete with all of the inherent failings that his personality typing is known for. Where he is capable of analyzing things quickly, and producing workable theories in most any situation, he is completely lost when it comes to matters of feelings. Pokémon are one thing; their feelings are simple compared to the myriad of emotions that can run through a human mind. This forms part of his attraction to the creatures, and distances him from his own species. When dealing with people, Az has a lot of trouble providing the warmth and support that is needed for most romances and friendships. Many like Azria also become so embroiled in their own thoughts that they have trouble remaining in the moment, and have trouble focusing on the environment and events transpiring around them. This is not a huge problem for Az, but he has occasionally been told to get his head out of the clouds.
Despite being very smart, Azzy is still a boy. He enjoys the company of other children to an extent, and likes to play games. (Especially ones that require ingenuous thinking.) When he was younger, Az was tormented by some of the boys in his hometown, and as a result he is fiercely against bullying, and those who bully others. Those who torture others without good reason quickly find that it is the easiest way to force the normally passive boy to violence.
The notoriety he received during his time at the trainer school has given Azria a big head, and he thinks very highly of himself. Though he is a generally quiet young man, many who spend time with him find that he can be somewhat pompous and arrogant, especially in regards to his abilities with Pokémon and battling. In truth, Az has trouble finding the medium between confidence and arrogance, and doesn’t mean to make others feel inferior.
Battle Style – In battle, Az has gained fame at the trainer school in Rustboro City by being versatile and thinking quickly. His mind is constantly pondering knew theories and combinations for attacks, and his passion for Pokémon led him to study the mechanics of Pokémon battles with great fervor. Azria enjoys using a wide variety of types when building a Pokémon team, and has been known to use unorthodox methods in the midst of combat. The boy truly prides himself in his ability to come up with strategies for victory on the fly, and loves to watch them pay off.

--Relationships
Emery Louis Ashford | FatherAzzy doesn't have strong feelings for his father. He has always viewed the man as a workaholic, and something of a bore. Azria doesn't dislike him, but he cannot yet relate to the adult nature of his father, and assumes that one day he will understand his father better.
Anna Lynn Ashford | MotherLike his father, Azzy doesn't often tell his mother that he loves her. Not because he doesn't love her, but he just doesn't really enjoy being around her. The habits of a home-maker annoy the youth, and his mother never ceases to find some sort of chore for him to do when he's just sitting around.
Liam Wallace Ashford | Younger BrotherWhatever genetics graced Azria with a genius level intellect have also been bestowed upon Liam. As a result, the two boys are extreme rivals when it comes to theory and Pokémon. However they do enjoy each other's company to most others.
Avery Elizabeth Ashford | Younger SisterAvery is Azria's pride and joy. The brother and sister have a relationship that has led some to believe that the two may love each other more than is appropriate, which they dismiss as nonsense. Avery is the one person that Azria feels that he needs to look out for in a big brotherly fashion.
--History
The origin of Azria Ashford begins in the Kanto Region, where his parents first met. Emery and Anna were never people who trained pokemon. In fact, Emery didn't really like pokemon all that much. Both people chose professions that allowed them to work away from pokemon trainers and their pokemon. It was in the Silph Co. Building in Saffron City that the pair met. Emery was working as a systems analyst, and the woman that would become his wife was the secretary there. What at first was trysts and dalliances grew into something more substantial as the computer geek and the paper pusher came to love each other.
They of course got married, and not too long after that their first child was born. They named him Azria, a name that had been common in Anna's family for generations. Saffron City however was not a good place to raise a child. It was large for a Kanto city, and influence from Team Rocket had turned parts of it into dangerous slums. Emery took a job in the far away region of Hoenn, in the city of Rustboro. He had no trouble finding work in the up and coming Devon Corporation.
It was in this city that Azria drew all of his first memories. They didn't have a big home at the time, and he spent most of his time with his mother, who at that point had become a full-time mom and wife. As a toddler, Azzy was very quiet, and composed. He cried very rarely, and spent most of his time staring at things with his huge, blue eyes. It seemed as though he was always watching and learning, absorbing all the ambient information that circulated in his environment.
Azria's father was a very busy man, and even as a child he could not volunteer much of his time to his children. The young boy learned to deal with this by developing an obsession with pokemon before he could even talk. It didn't matter what sort of pokemon, any time Azzy was taken out and about with his mother, the child could be counted on to reach and grope to try and touch and examine the odd creatures. They became a huge fascination for him that would last throughout his entire life.
It wasn't until the birth of Az's younger brother Liam that Azria found himself gaining an independence from his family. With his mother now equally busy with another child, Azzy was left to fend for himself, so the boy who was only four at the birth of his brother, was able to wander without the eyes of his matriarch following him where ever he went. It was on these excursions that Azria met his first pokemon companion.
Azria found the Riolu down an alley, being taunted and picked on by a pair of young boys. In their childishness, they had made a game of poking the little creature with sticks. It riled Azria, who was much smaller than both of them into a frenzy, and he quickly waded in against them, throwing rocks and anything at hand to make them leave the little, blue creature alone. The battle that ensued is something that Azzy has never told anyone. It is a secret shared between him and his pokemon alone, but the black eye and bloody nose that he received were a small price to pay for the unconditional friendship of Riolu.
He brought the pokemon home, and hid it within a pokeball he'd purchased with his allowance. His father and mother were not aware of Azria's secret partner until the day he enrolled at the Trainer School there in Rustboro City. That same day was the day he learned that he would be a big brother to another sibling. Nine months later, Azria's attention would be divided between pokemon and his siblings. As a six year old, Azria became the great and powerful big brother who would watch over and protect his siblings. Of course, in the school that he attended, Azzy was not yet great or powerful. He was small and young, and the object of much ridicule. At home he looked after his siblings while he nursed the small scrapes and bruises that he and Riolu received at school.
His peers found Azria and his Riolu to be weaklings and not worthy of anything but contempt, and so he drew inward. Azzy was already a highly intellectual boy, but at this dark point in his life he spent much more time withdrawn into his own mind. Often times he could barely pull himself away from his thoughts to help his mother care for the toddler boy and his infant sister.
For years it continued this way, but Az didn't spend his time idly. In his mind he developed strategies and plans to defeat his enemies. Soon, his equally smart younger brother became aware enough to help him in developing theories, working as a prodigiously smart wall to bounce ideas off of. The pair of them became intellectual rivals. They never argued, but as they aged, they debated quite furiously at times. Avery, Az's sister never developed a will to debate quite like the two boys did. She was radically different from them, very extroverted and vivacious. It was mystifying to the two nerdy boys, and they came to be very protective of their sister.
Once Azria's siblings were old enough to look after themselves on a short term basis, the boy threw himself back into his study of pokemon with a vengeance. He trained hard, and trained Riolu equally hard. The pair become strong and versatile by combating many of the different kinds of pokemon that appeared at the school. After many long months of climbing up the proverbial ladder, Az stood at the pinnacle of the trainer school. He hadn't made many friends there, as a young and quiet boy he was still considered weak, but the power of Riolu and the skill which they battled together kept the bullies at bay. He did have a collection of fans, but the school was broken in to two factions.
Roxanne was a girl that had always been on even ground with Azria. Her pokemon were strong, and her knowledge of pokemon were strong. More often than not, their battles would end in bitter stalemates. Of course, this bred a bitter rivalry between them. Any kid that did not like Azria, naturally allied himself with Roxanne. Roxanne's fan club was much larger than Azria's. Naturally he was furious to find out that after their graduation from the trainer school, Roxanne had been offered the position of gym leader of Rustboro Gym over him.
In a rage, Azria challenged Roxanne to a battle in which anger blinded him. One of Az's greatest regrets is failing in the same battle that his Riolu had evolved to try and win the fight. Fury blinded him though, and he made horrible choices that even a more powerful Lucario could not work with. After the battle, Az slunk off in disgrace to say farewell to his siblings. He didn't speak to his parents much anymore. They didn't approve of pokemon trainers and had grown more distant with each passing year.
Azria took his life-savings and slipped off to repair his wounded ego. He vowed not to return home until he'd become famous and powerful enough to defeat not only his childhood enemies, but so respected that no one would think of ridiculing him, or belittling the things that he cared about in his presence ever again.
He set off from the Hoenn Region on a boat headed for a place he'd never heard of known as the Cheyenne Region. He knew nothing of the place except for that there was a shower poster depicting their Pokemon League at the ticket office. Azria would go there, and challenge the foreign gyms. He and Lucario would become champions, and return home as heroes.
I'm given to understand that I couldn't give away my Lucario. I wasn't aware of that when I did it, but now that I'm back I think that I'll transfer him over to this character and ret-con his history a little bit. I'm hoping Lucario won't be treated like a Pre-Starter, but if that's the case, I'm okay with taking Azria to the Ranger Station instead of the Lab.
