Marlaey made her way precariously through the last few steps of the underbrush in the forest of route one. Her zubat was clinging onto her right shoulder as she talked away to him, teaching him the pros of patience and foresight. His ears twitched as he listened, trying to absorb the information his trainer was bestowing on him, but finding it difficult to see how he could apply it to his battling technique. He was a strong Pokémon and he intended to get stronger any way he could, so he continued to listen and hoped that some day it would come in useful. Looking up Marlaey was surprised to see a lot of strange people blocking the way as well as a very large dark charizard. Was she strong enough to pass? Of course she was! She'd been training for a long time on route one, it was time to move on for sure. So it was time to try and do this cockblock thing? Man, how long had it been since the last stunt TD pulled off? The Cresselia Cup was quite a while ago, he supposed. It didn't feel like a long time ago though, almost as if it ended like 2 months back. That wasn't right, it couldn't be. It was such a big event that had such an impact on him, that he could still remember the events of it quite vividly. It almost made him doubt whether he was ready to take on this kind of mission, until he realized something. In a way, he had been battling new trainers to test their strength anyways. How in the world was this any different?
As he stood around, kind of waiting for someone to just walk up and challenge him, he noticed a familiar woman wandering around. Oh wait, he knew that chick. She was one of those trainers that he had battled earlier, trying to help others out specifically for missions like these. He already knew that she made some kind of effort to train her Pokemon, so this couldn't be too bad, right?
"Hey." He nodded at her in greeting, hoping she wouldn't be too intimidated by Blaze and Syl in the background. They were creepers, but they didn't mean any harm. At least this wasn't a mission that would nag at his conscious. "Here to see if you're strong enough?" He asked with a grin, wondering if she was ready. Her name was Marlaey, right? He sort of remembered it, since she stood out a little compared to the other strangers he battled. As if he was impatient for a reply, he sent out two Pokemon to give him a hand for a quick double battle. Texas, a recently hatched Rufflet appeared with an amused trill of his voice upon seeing the excitement around him. The second was a small Chimchar, looking eager as she hopped from foot to foot.

Marlaey saw a familiar face within the group of people and was pleased to see Shamu step forward. "Hi", she said, waving as she approached him. "I have to battle before I can enter the city?" she asked, perplexed. It seemed like such an odd thing to have to do, she'd never heard anything like it before. But it didn't seem as if Shamu was one to be questioned overly as he released two Pokémon before her. Well a battle did sound like good fun at any rate so she didn't mind too much. Hopefully she'd trained enough with her Pokémon for them to beat this pair. She smiled at Shamu, "It's good to see you again."Clicking one of her pokeballs she released a very small looking vaporeon from it's spherical abode. Kana stretched, but stayed close beside her trainer, wary of all the strangers around them. It would be her first battle, but Marlaey knew she needed the practice, it would do her good. And anyway, it was a double fight, so Uar could protect her easily enough if things got really bad. She reached a hand to her zubat, stroking his ears and whispering, "You're up too love, now remember what we talked about." Uar chirped and flew into the air above them, ready to battle. It made sense to see Marlaey get confused about the situation. It probably didn't make sense to any of the new trainers, but they had to be tested out. Professor Winter gave out Pokemon to just about anybody these days, and it was getting kind of ridiculous. Someone was going around being the "King of Darkness" from what he heard in the past. Just...seriously? It was good that they were checking these trainers out, and besides, a battle wouldn't hurt them.
"Got that right; just a two on two." Susumu informed her with a small smile, feeling awkward since he was being so bold about it. "If you have to heal, the lab isn't far." It wasn't going to hurt anyone, at least he thought it wasn't. Verona could be accessed at any time, so it wasn't as if they were permanently screwed. It was just a check-up, really. It was all reasoned out in his head, even if each TD member might've interpreted it differently."Yeah, you too." He could at least say that honestly, glad they could be friendly and reasonable about this.
The next Pokemon she sent out, besides the hiding Zubat, was a sweet little Vaporeon that caught him off guard. Now that thing was rare--and evolved. Just how strong was she? Expecting a challenge at the sight of it, he grinned. "It's just a battle to make sure crazies don't end up with Pokemon. Nothing bad happens if you lose." It was the best he could explain it at the moment, but he felt like he did a poor job of it. "Not that I think you're crazy." He laughed nervously, not trying to set her off.
Scoot and Texas looked eager to give this battle a shot, ready with held items and everything, so there was no reason to hold back now. "Helping Hand and Fury Attack on the Zubat!" He always liked being somewhat basic on the first turn, to kind of feel things out. Scoot clapped her hands together as she rooted Texas onward, a little spark shooting over at him as his feathers ruffled up at the energy boost. <Ha! I knew I'd be fine without it, but thanks anyways!> He grinned wickedly as he shot off after the Zubat, prepared for his first battle ever. His Fury Attack would be strong now, especially with multiple hits!

Marlaey laughed, "Well I sure hope I'm not one of the crazies!" Battling was enjoyable, so this two on two match should be fun. It was good to be challenged now and again! She watched as the chimchar cheered the rufflet on, that would boost his power. She had to be careful of that. "Uar, dodge those fury swipes and circle around to use supersonic on chimchar!" she called. Uar heard and attempted to obey. He soared up high to avoid the rufflet, but was caught by several of the short swift attacks. He squeaked in agitation before swooping around and aiming supersonic at the fire type, continuing to dodge the rufflet's advances. Kana's eyes widened at the sight of the aerial acrobatics, her tail swishing to and fro. She was suddenly eager to try for an attack herself. She looked up at her trainer and bounced forwards on her little rubbery feet, heading straight for chimchar with a tackle attack. Yep, Marlaey definitely wasn't one of those crazies from what he could see. Then again, he didn't really know her, but she didn't give off any weird vibes. There was nothing that would've suggested that she wasn't taking care of her Pokemon properly. If anything, they didn't look like the strongest things ever. Everyone started out at some point with something weak, and she already had a rare Vaporeon on her hands. She was doing something right, whatever it was. He was a bit distracted with his thoughts, snapping back to reality with Marlaey's next command.
Dodging and Supersonic, great. He was more than aware of the confusion that was to come, and he was bracing himself for it. Scoot had no experience with confusion, so she found herself easily under the Zubat's spell as she tottered about. <Oyyy, what is...that song?> She chirped in her confusion, legs literally trembling as they started to fail her that turn. She collapsed on the ground with a squeak, injuring herself that turn as the Vaporeon took advantage of her delirious state of mind. She was tackled right back onto her knees, panting from the damage as she got back up with a disoriented stare. The hits didn't do much to her, but she felt sick.
Susumu cringed, feeling a little bad for the Chimchar's state of mind at the moment, but she'd hold her own. Marlaey's Pokemon didn't seem like heavy hitters, unless the Vaporeon knew a water type attack at the moment. "Hold the fort down, Texas. Leer and Peck on the Vaporeon." He thought the mermaid Pokemon was the biggest threat, so it seemed smart to try and take it down while he could. Not that he knew Kana's movelist, but part of being a trainer was assuming the risks.
The small Rufflet looked feisty and determined as his eyes sparked out a leer, looking cool as he strutted his stuff. <Can't dodge this one, can you?> He was eager to test the Vaporeon out in battle, especially when she was so much bigger in size. Beak glowing with energy that represented his type, he swung around and tried to give Kana a sharp peck in the noggin. That oughta teach her!

Kana barked her pleasure at successfully hitting the chimchar, even if the damage she dealt wasn't very great. Marlaey smiled at her enthusiasm and congratulated her, "Well done Kana! Keep it up!" The baby vaporeon wagged her tail happily as she turned to look at her trainer, beaming. But that gave her other opponent, Texas, the chance to get in on her and attack. She felt a sharp tap on her head and yelped in pain and fright. Turning, she was hit full force by his leer attack before she slapped him with her tail, attempting to drive him away. Uar too felt the effects of the rufflet's leer and he flattened his ears back against his head. He should help Kana out. That would be best, wouldn't it? Was this another hasty decision on his part? No! She needed him! He would help. That chimchar was confused already so he should fight the bird. With his decision made, Uar swooped down and attached himself to the bird pokemon, holding on tight with his clawed wings and biting into the back of his neck. Time to take some energy! It was hard to say whether this battle was working out for Susumu or not, but the blonde wanted to say that it was going sort of well. His Pokemon had a bit of experience with battles before, and Texas had actually watched his battle with Gym Leader Paris. Not that he actually participated, but the Rufflet did pick up on a few skills of his own as he wrestled with the Zubat. Those fangs sunk into his neck, making him hiss at the sting of the teeth getting into his skin. It was like a bug bite though, and bugs did not fend very well against birds such as himself. The Rufflet cawed in protest as he twisted his head around as far as he could, trying to Peck the Zubat on the side of his neck in revenge. <You'll appreciate this!> The young chick spouted as a retort, a bit rough around the edges even if he did hold many secrets in his personality.
The Rufflet still felt like his feathers were a little wet from Kana's tail slap, but he didn't mind it too much. There were worse things to worry about, and his teammate wasn't really helping him out. <Hey, Scoot! Be useful! Come on, stop that blue thing!> Whatever it was called! The Rufflet wasn't familiar with the species names of Pokemon, especially at his young age. Shame, but both Pokemon happened to be blue. The Chimchar looked left and right at the Zubat and Vaporeon in her confusion, not sure which she should hit.
"Use an Ember." Susumu thought she was thinking about hitting the Zubat, but instead she clutched the Flame Plate and spewed out an Ember at the Vaporeon. Well that wouldn't be very effective, even with the help of an item. Whoops. "...next time, at the Zubat." Susumu sighed from the background, making a note to himself to be a little clearer when dealing with confused Pokemon.

"Come on guys! You can do it!" Marlaey yelled encouragingly. She could see that her Pokémon were under leveled in this match, but that wouldn't stop them trying their hardest. She was really proud of them for that. Uar felt the rufflet's peck hit home and he squeaked in pain and surprise. Who knew that bird could crane his neck around that far? Well he wouldn't forget that in a hurry. Flapping his wings he flew up into the air and aimed a Supersonic at Texas, trying to confuse him too so he could get a better grip next time. Kana meanwhile was once again facing the chimchar Scoot. She felt the monkey's ember lick her sides painfully and yowled. Not good not good! It was all very well being a resistant water type, but fire still bloody hurt at the end of the day. She retreated back a little, trying to figure out what to do. Uar was up in the air and she felt really vulnerable here on her own. She had also just noticed how tired she was beginning to feel. She wasn't going to last much longer at this rate. Well this was probably one of the most useless of turns Susumu could have; as the Supersonic managed to hit home twice, the Rufflet found himself confused. Sure, Texas managed to peck at the Zubat with a dazed look in his eyes, but he had absolutely no concept of what was going on anymore. <Things...battle? Contest? Are you...a girl?> The jumbled up thoughts going on in the Rufflet's mind was popping out of his beak as he stared at the Zubat in confusion. His head swayed back and forth in an attempt to think of what was going on, only to shift even more unstably from each direction.
It didn't help that Scoot was still confused, feeling like she accomplished something by using that Ember attack. Her face brightened up a little, gently smiling to herself as her tail flame flickered with delight. It was then that the inexperienced Vaporeon managed to get a weak Tackle attack in, making her tumble over backwards as her Flame Plate escaped her grip. The shiny red plate flew into the air as Scoot was stuck on the ground, before descending right onto her fragile little head. <Eep!> She squeaked as the plate slid down her head, scrambling to hold it once more as she held it protectively to her chest. Sure, it was responsible for making her hurt herself in her confusion, but she still felt like she needed to hold onto it.
"Uh...right, try a Fury Attack!" Scoot was out of action, but Texas surely could attempt something. Susumu looked hopeful as he stared off at where the Rufflet was standing, only to see it smacking itself in the face with his wing. Stupid bird, wasting his time like this. All the blonde could do was sigh in embarrassment in the background, hoping it wouldn't be so bad next turn.

Marlaey giggled, biting her lip. Poor Shamu, this turn certainly wasn't going to be his best. With both his pokemon confused now there was nothing he could really do but wait. She felt a little sorry for the rufflet and chimchar as they tottered about absently, managing to hurt themselves in confusion. But Marlaey knew that a quick trip to the pokemon centre would have them feeling right as rain in no time! She looked to her own duo now and called out to them, "Uar, go use Leech Life on Texas again! Kana, use Helping Hand!"The two pokemon looked to her for a moment before moving to attack. Kana waved her beautiful tail, cheering her bat partner on, while Uar dive bombed the rufflet, latching on and sinking his teeth beneath the feathers once more. Would they win? Hardly. It really was an unfortunate turn, and with his two Pokemon practically attacking themselves, it was only making Marlaey look good as a trainer. He could only sigh because Confusion was an incredibly annoying status condition, leaving everything up to luck as the pair continued to hurt themselves. Texas was having difficulties with the boosted Leech Life, wincing as Uar had this difference in attack power when those fangs sucked into the bird once more. <Not a pony! Save a horse, ride a cowboy!> The bird chirped furiously, bucking up and down like a bull as the Zubat latched on and sucked health from him. Sadly Uar wasn't gaining much back in return, but it was doing a little more damage than before when Kana was helping out.
Scoot was starting to look a little more sane than before, starting to snap out of her confusion as her eyes stared to lose their glazed over appearance. With slightly more coherent sentences, she tried making eye contact with the two Pokemon she was supposed to be battling. "Scoot, think you can attack?" Susumu asked, realizing that the small Chimchar already attacked herself twice in a row. Now that always sort of sucked, but she looked like she understood his words.
<M-Maybe.> She said with a bit of uncertainty, still feeling dizzy as she clutched the Flame Plate close to her chest. Susumu understood it as a positive assurance, nodding gently as he figured what the next command of the battle should be. "Heat Wave! Hit them both!" It would make up for the confusion that Texas was suffering from, especially because it could hit both opponents. The Chimchar's tail flame became more intense as the Flame Plate radiated a natural warmth, giving her enough of a boost to make the move a bit stronger than before. With an open mouth, she sprayed a harsh wave of heat towards the Vaporeon and Zubat.

If he could have, Uar would have laughed at the nonsense coming out of the bird's beak, but as it was he was desperately trying to hold on to the damn thing. Yes the leech life had been boosted slightly, but it still wasn't very effective and this worried him. He was losing energy fast, and by the sounds of things, so was Kana. Before he could make another move he was flung off the rufflets back. He landed roughly on the floor, shaking his head, feeling somewhat dizzy. His ears twitched when he heard Shamu order Scoot to attack. Heatwave. Oh no. The bat pokemon scrambled over to Kana, trying to knock her out of the way, <This is gonna hurt!>But too late. Both Uar and Kana were engulfed by Scoot's fire attack. Kana was too young to withstand it, even though she was a water type, and Uar was just too weak from battling. They'd put up a good fight, but neither of them could go on anymore. "Oh..." Marlaey gasped, saddened. She looked up at Shamu, disappointment etched all over her, "What now..? It was a shame that the Heat Wave ended the battle so early, but it was a pretty strong move. Susumu winced when he saw just how weak the two Pokemon Marlaey had really were, not thinking that they'd give up so quickly. "Uh..." He muttered, at first stunned then quickly accepting it as he confused Pokemon bumbled around each other. Texas somehow thought that Scoot was insulting him, and he ended up pecking the poor Chimchar on the head. Said Chimchar was offended and started crying, and the confusion wasn't even close to wearing off. "You guys...just, no. In the ball." Not in the mood to watch the pair attack each other in their dazed state, he returned them to their respective Pokeballs as Marlaey gave him that sad look.
She looked as if she was really disappointed with herself, and she really did seem like a good trainer. "N-Not to worry. This isn't going to last long." He hoped it would be of some comfort to her, slipping the two Pokeballs onto his belt to use later if he ever had to. The older woman seemed concerned about this, and he couldn't leave her feeling like crrap. "You're a good trainer, I can tell. Expert opinion, right here." He grinned at her, hoping it would cheer her up. If not that, then he had a plan B. Plan B could start right now actually, since he wasn't very confident in his people skills.
"Oh, I have an idea. There's another way to prove that you're a good trainer! You must've been on the route long enough to catch a flying type, right?" Ignoring the fact that Susumu never caught any flying types on the first route, he saw plenty of new trainers with them all of the time. This still seemed like a good idea to him, hoping to make the deal worth Marlaey's time. Fumbling through his back with a knowing smile, he took out a Doduo egg, which had vibrant brown marking and black swirls all around the sides. "I'll make it worth your while if you'll trade with me." This could probably get him in trouble, but maybe they could spend some time trying to sneak through the blockade. After the trade, of course.

derp, wanna make an interaction thread out of this? XD Nothing bad happens for losing, the event will just end and act like nothing happened. And you already moved onto Electric City anyways~ so yeah this can be a fun thread if you want. We can even hatch the Doduo egg in here after the trade.

Marlaey had expected more of Uar from that match, but she did have to consider that he'd spent most of his time protecting Kana because she was much weaker, still only a baby really. But they'd done their best and for that she was proud! Returning them to their pokeballs, she smiled half heartedly at Shamu. It was sweet of him to attempt to cheer her up. She ran a hand through her short brown hair and looked at her feet for a moment. She was a good trainer... She hoped.. She just hadn't had very much experience battling yet! She needed practice. That was all. Practice makes perfect and all, she told herself. And besides, she loved her Pokémon no matter what, they were so individual and special. She smiled at that, a genuine smile. Looking up she laughed a little at Shamu, "Thank you for saying that, I'll try to get better though. I would like to win a battle at some stage!"She cocked her head to one side, wondering what his idea was. She nodded to his question, she'd caught two rufflet so far. Was he going to take out two more Pokémon and give her another try by battling her flying types? Nope, that definitely wasn't a pair of pokeballs, that was an egg! "Ooohhh..." she gasped, looking at it's smooth shell. "You want to trade it for a flying type? I have just the bird! There was this rufflet who beat nearly all of my Pokémon and it took ages to wear him down enough to catch him. He's quite full of himself and I don't think my guys like him too much, but he's a strong fighter, that's for sure! Would you like to see him?"She retrieved the flying type's ball and released him. The rufflet burst out of his confinement, roaring a challenge to everyone in the vicinity. Glad to hear the gentle relief in that laugh of hers, Susumu grinned a little at Marlaey in response. There were obviously no hard feelings about this match, and he could even relate to her on that one part. When he first started out as a trainer, he lost almost all of his trainer battles. It was a pretty frustrating time period, even making him rage quit from being a trainer for a certain amount of time. He silently hoped that she wouldn't handle those frustrations in the same way he did."You're already a step closer to winning, don't worry. You'll get the hang of it." He was positive about this, being an experienced warrior when it came to losing things. He happened to be having a nice winning streak right around now, but he was sure that his luck would absolutely die out later on.
Trainers in the later routes were definitely brutal, for sure. He was curious at her suggestion of a flying type, holding the egg comfortably in his arms as if he was giving it a hug."Of course, let's see the little guy." He was curious now, especially after the introduction she gave. Eyes locked on the Rufflet's Pokeball, he nearly jumped at the sound of the roar that escaped its beak. What a loud one, sheesh! He debated this one a little, realizing that he already had two Rufflets in his party.
They did happen to be a very popular species of Pokemon, and he figured that he could benefit from it later on. If the demand for them was still high, then it wouldn't really matter if he had three of them in his PC. "Ha, he looks motivated." Susumu commented, looking a little put off by the fact that she was offering him a Rufflet. Still, he did want to be nice to her to sort of make up for this. She'd have to deal with the wall being up for a while, but he wondered if he could somehow sneak around that.
She was a good trainer, and her Pokemon seemed confident enough. The only issue was that she didn't train them enough to beat the ones he currently had. "Sounds like a trade, here. Take good care of it." He held out the egg in his arms for her to take, expecting the Pokeball in return. The trade sounded like it was pretty much done, but he had to wonder about the other trainers out and about. They were all battling to test themselves. He had to wonder how many were actually successful.
ooc; you can start incubating <3
Trade done!

"I hope so!" Marlaey agreed enthusiastically.
She looked at the strutting Rufflet and rolled her eyes. He wasn't going to fit in her team very well at all. It was probably for the best that she trade him. If Shamu didn't want him she was sure she could find someone else. The bird deserved a good trainer who would make him stronger.
"Motivated is one word you could use.." she said with a grin. But her smile faded when a thought occured to her. What if he already had a Rufflet? Why would he want another? Oh how stupid of her to presume he'd want this bird! She looked down at her feet. "You don't have to take him, it's alright, I mean, if you have others.. Which you probably do.. since you're a really good trainer and all.." And now she was mumbling. Wonderful...
When he agreed to the trade she was taken aback. "Really? You mean it? Oh wow! Thank you!" She reached for the egg he was offering her, feeling it's warmth as soon as she held it in her arms. She lost herself for a moment as she admired it, but then remembered her manners and passed the rufflet's pokeball over to him. "He'll be better off with you I think", she said, smiling once more. Now came the trouble of figuring out how to actually get into the city beyond.

Marlaey wasn't the only one that was surprised when he accepted the trade, passing on the Doduo egg to her as he accepted the Rufflet's Pokeball. First order of business? Returning the sucker into his Pokeball so it wouldn't get in the way. That was an easy feat to do, since it was busy roaring at the grass to make it grow faster anyways. "I'll take care of them. I'm pretty good with birds." He said with a grin, especially after an experience involving being kidnapped by one of them. Shame he was bad with most species of Pokemon, especially since they seemed to enjoy tormenting him.
Now that the trade was finished, they were stuck with the ordeal of actually getting past the wall. With a slow turn of his head at the silence between them, he started to take a look at what was going on. There were people; many many people creating a human and Pokemon blockade. Naturally TD members could break through it, or those that were able to beat one of them could as well. Marlaey's loss was witnessed, and his own Pokemon hadn't fainted either. Lying wouldn't work knowing how they were doing the checks and balances. "We'll think of a way..." He mused with his hand to his chin, rubbing it as his eyes narrowed in thought.
"Maybe if..." His voice trailed off as he had the idea of pretending that Marlaey was a TD member. That was quickly erased when he remembered how small TD was all together, but they did gain a lot of support over the years. Maybe if she acted as if she was one of those? No, that still wouldn't work. They'd have to do something flashy and amazing. "I-I know! How good are your acting skills?" He suddenly asked, catching the tail of an idea and struggling to hang onto it.

Marlaey cradled the warm egg in her arms, hoping that it would hatch soon into a pretty little doduo for her. She smiled at Shamu, "Thank you very much, that means a lot. At least he'll be in better hands this way!" She stroked the shell of the egg for a moment before looking around. The site that greeted her once again was quite intimidating. She felt relieved now that it was Shamu who had stepped forward and asked her to battle, not any of these other scary looking people. In one way she thought she sort of understood why they were here. Bad trainers were bad. Obviously. and everyone should be challenged now and again to keep them sharp. But what happen if a crazy, as Shamu put it, came along? Would they take away their pokemon? Was that allowed? Her mind whirled with questions, but she felt that now was not the time to ask. She'd lost her battle, and though Shamu was being prefectly gracious and kind to her, she was sure that none of these other trainers would let her away so easily.
She was starting to feel a little scared now. she didn't want to lose any of her pokemon.. or her limbs.. Who knew what these men and women were capable of?!
Wait, acting skills? "Em, they're alright? What would I have to do?" she asked, desperate for any way out of this situation and willing to put all of her energy into his plan.

Alright was more than good enough for Susumu, who had a plan on getting her to the next city. These TD guys did have a heart, and they weren't such giant douches that they wouldn't make exceptions to the rule. He'd have to make them believe that she was a certain exception, and it all relied on how well they could act this out. With arms crossed, he hesitated in telling her this plan.
It was definitely an eccentric one, and he had his own doubts on whether it would work or not. He glanced up at her to judge what she would say before telling her the plan, wondering what kind of expression she would have on her face. "The idea I have involves you playing dead." She could pull this off, right? He felt nervous as he talked, feeling like it was stupid the more he talked about it. "Make a scene, get some attention...then we can whisk you away to Ile Electrique." He explained it with a hesitant look towards her, wondering if she would even play along with it.
Another glance towards the wall of trainers behind them suggested that they were looking a little odd. To anyone, it looked as if Susumu was slacking off on the defense job. At least there was a TD member for every trainer, so they were all getting taken care of. "I-I think we can do it." Despite the nervousness in his voice, it was worth a shot. TD wouldn't actually refuse to give her medical treatment; he knew that much.
