Cameron's finger tapped absently against the egg's shell as he waited for the budew's answer. She was taking quite a while to make up her mind, wasn't she? Just knocking out and capturing the pokemon would have gone quicker than this! However, he knew that Amica needed a short break between battles, and he didn't want her to waste any of her energy on this timid little thing. Finally, an answer was given, although definitely not a favorable one.
<I don't think I want to go with you...>, the plant announced sheepishly. <I'm sorry to disappoint.> Cameron's expression darkened, and he instantly leaned down to pick up the pokeball off of the ground with his free hand. Silently, he stowed it away again. Amica offered the budew a small smile, before shuffling towards her trainer.
"Fine, have it your way. You could have gone places, you know.", the teen said with a hard voice, before brushing past the budew and continuing down the path. Amica followed at his heels, and the remaining bits of their lunch were forgotten. Once they had gone around a bend and out of sight of the wild pokemon, Cameron stopped.
"She was an idiot, that plant. We don't need her, anyway.", he grumbled, half to himself and half to Amica. What did he need a budew for, anyway? They didn't evolve into anything particularly impressing, and there were much better grass types available when it came to fighting power. The pokemon probably would have ended up in storage eventually.
<Yeah, I suppose.>, Amica responded quietly, and leaned against her trainer's leg. It was a sign of affection, of course, but Cameron hardly noticed it. He was about to continue walking when a spherical object caught his gaze. Huh? Another abandoned item? He silently pointed it out to Amica, and she squeaked in excitement. It was a pokeball. Had someone left it there? If so, had it been deliberately abandoned, or accidentally forgotten? Either way, it was his now! Cameron walked over to it, and placed the egg on the ground so he could examine the pokeball with both hands. He could tell that it was occupied from its slightly heavier feel and small amount of warmth. Man, this was better than finding the egg! Hopefully there wasn't something dumb inside, like a bidoof.

WILD STARLY ! ! ! ! Someone was watching them. Or specifically she was eyeing the egg that Cameron had currently taking care of. Being a bird poke'mon it made sense that she would have a slight fixation on the egg. Even not knowing what species it was she couldn't help but look at it. She hopped along the branch she was sitting on so tat she might have a better view of the egg. And then, rather quietly, she took off from the branch and swooped down towards Cameron and his team. She tried to sit down upon the egg and nestle it. "You're not doing it right, no no no, it will NEVER hatch unless you sit on it." She advised the trainer.

Cameron examined the pokeball for a moment longer, then prepared to release whatever was inside. At that moment, though, there was a sudden fluttery motion from the branches of a nearby tree, and a starly swooped down to come to a rest upon the egg, which was lying on the ground. The teen shouted in surprise, and jumped back before he could realize that the pokemon didn't pose any threat to him. Was she trying to brood on the egg? He almost laughed at the oh-so-typical bird behavior.
<You're not doing it right, no no no, it will NEVER hatch unless you sit on it.>, the starly told him as she balanced expertly on top of the egg. Cameron's amusement switched right back to annoyance, and he rolled his eyes at the pokemon. What made her think that she knew more about hatching an egg than he did? He had been doing perfectly fine on his own! Then again, maybe this bird could fill the role that the budew had denied. She seemed a lot more willing to care for the egg than the plant had.
<H-hello!>, Amica greeted sweetly, taking a few steps towards the new arrival. <Have you taken care of eggs b-before, then? We just f-found this one a little while ago, and we aren't sure what t-to do.> Where on did that come from? As far as Cameron could tell from the short time he had been interacting with Amica, he didn't think that she was capable of taking charge of a conversation like that. What did she mean by 'we aren't sure what to do', anyway? He knew exactly what he was doing! Just because he was trying to push the responsibilities of caring for the egg onto someone else didn't mean that he wasn't capable of doing the job himself.

snapping at the budew as it came closer, the starly settled further down onto the egg, trying to make sure her feathery body covered all the parts of the egg to keep it snuggly and warm. she was, after all, a bird: she was practically designed for this. imagine, getting a grass-type to try to hatch an egg. the nerve of it. the sheer idiocy! he had about as many brains as her good-for-nothing son-in-law pidgey - and that wasn't many at all. < clearly you had no idea what to do. i could tell that in an instant, > she sniffed, looking down her beak at the odd grass-type. she looked rather tasty really, a bud that smelled so lovely would make a nice lunch. but that would be rude and to be perfectly honest, the starly had eaten a lovely meal of cherubi just a few minutes before. if she ate any more, she might bloat. < you were doing it all wrong. you've got to ... well, you've got to... you've just got to do this. > she ended, unable to describe exactly what the Pokémon was supposed to be doing. instead, she showed her, settling happily onto the egg like a proud brooding mother. < see? now, you try. > she said, hopping off the egg and indicating with a wing that the budew should give it a go. hovering around very close, the starly was ready with a sharp beak to snap at the budew should it do anything wrong, and to give advice where it was needed. and boy, was it needed. WILD STARLY level 07 • keen eye • female tackle, growl, quick attack mothering, busy-body, smothering monster-mother-in-law personality
