Finally, Cameron had made it to Route One. Seriously, that thunderstorm had been very inopportune. Still, he was here now, and he had his first pokemon with him. That was all that really mattered, right? His clothes had even started to dry, thank goodness! He paused as he came to the edge of the forest, and dug out the chinchou’s pokeball from his pocket. The small fish was released with a flash of light, and it looked up at him with wide eyes. <H-hello! Are you my trainer now?>, she questioned in a high-pitch and very feminine voice. Cameron puffed his chest out, and nodded firmly.
”That I am. My name’s Cameron, and you’re going to be called…um…Amica, from now on. Understand?” When Amica nodded timidly, Cameron reached back into his backpack and pulled out a disk. ”Here. This should make these low-level battles a little easier.” He gave the technical machine to her, which contained the move Volt Switch. It was quite a powerful move for such a weak pokemon, but Cameron was certain that she would master it with practice. Maybe they could find a water type to fry, just for fun.
When Amica was finished with the disk, it shattered with a surprisingly loud crash. The tiny chinchou jumped in surprise, tears in her eyes. <I d-didn’t mean to b-break it!>, she squeaked, and Cameron chuckled. Apparently she was not accustomed to TMs. He himself had watched them be used enough times to be familiar with their reliable fragility. Still, if something as simple as that nearly brought her to tears, he couldn’t help but worry about how she would perform in the stressful situation of a battle.
”No worries, they’re supposed to do that. I sometimes think they intentionally make those things flimsy, just so we have to give them more money to get more. Greedy businessmen.”, he growled the last part to himself, then held up the pokeball again, intending to return Amica before starting his journey. The chinchou had already composed herself again, and when she noticed Cameron’s intent, she gave him such a heart-meltingly forlorn look that he hastily pocketed the device again. ”Um…right. Let’s go, then.", he said after the pokeball was safely out of sight. Amica instantly brightened, and waddled after him as he set off down the trail.

[STYLE=border-bottom: 5px solid #FFC7FF;] [/style] A shroomish was lying in wait for any trainers that dared pass him by, but he had his own agenda today. Plans had been coceived, and he was going to carry them out with what he intended to do. A great day in fact lay ahead of him, but if it didn't go according to plan, he could still look back at his past achievements. The smug look on his face showed he had just successfully stolen another item of value ot him, but surely no one would miss a shoelace. That just meant they wouldn't trip over it anymore, and he figured he was doing people a favor. As soon as the human was within view, he took off like speedy gonzalez, and jumped right at the trainer aiming for his shoelaces. Don't worry, I will rid you of your shoe-tripping woes! he said suddenly, but it could be seen as an attack despite meaning something rather harmless in general. The shroomish only wanted the shoelace, but he had a reason for stealing these things. Mainly to add to the collection of shoelaces, and that made him drool at his own accomplishments again mid jump. Losing focus, but he kept his mind on the task within a second. Eyes piercing the shoelace and his flaps on the outside of his body were flapping constantly as the air seemed to blow by him. Shroomish on a mission, watch out. ::shroomish:: 5 (m) shroomish Effect Spore - Poison Heal Absorb - Tackle Dubious - Thief - Complacent

The duo hadn't been walking for even five minutes when the peace of the forest was abruptly disturbed. Out of the bushes leaped a shroomish, whose gaze seemed to be fixed intently on Cameron's shoes. <Don't worry, I will rid you of your shoe-tripping woes!>, the psychotic wild pokemon announced mid-leap. Amica gave a startled cry, and frantically hid behind her trainer's legs. Cameron, on the other hand, was not particularly intimidated. Very, very annoyed, perhaps, but not intimidated. He hopped away from the spot he had been standing at, accidentally knocking Amica over. Her rotund form rolled around for a moment before she managed to stand up again, whimpering quietly. Oh well, at least he had avoided the shroomish, not that his actions had been particularly hostile in the first place. No-one tried to steal his shoelaces!
"Hey, Amica! Stop whining and use Psybeam on that irritating thief!", Cameron commanded, and Amica glanced up at him with an uncertain gaze. "Now!" She gave him a small nod, then turned to the 'attacking' shroomish. She was obviously not pleased about having to attack a non-violent wild pokemon, but Cameron didn't really care. He just wanted to punish the grass type's impudence.
<I'm s-sorry.>, she murmured to her opponent, then squeezed her large eyes tightly shut. After a few seconds of tense concentration, a small rainbow-colored beam of light shot from her forehead. The odd attack was probably not as strong as it could have been, due to her inexperience, but it would have to do. Cameron looked on with a smirk, expecting that Amica would win the battle without difficulty.

Feeling slightly upset that the trainer would overreact in such a way, but he wasn't going to take that attack as an answer to his woes. Instead he aimed for the shoelace again while looking at the electric water type. Suddenly he decided to actually retaliate, by using some green orbs to steal life from the water type. Fine, then I'll borrow some energy, the shroomish responded with and suddenly let the attack try to take on the life of the water and electric type pokemon. A great deal of effort had been put in to try taking on this new opponent. ::shroomish:: 5 (m) shroomish Effect Spore - Poison Heal Absorb - Tackle Dubious - Thief - Complacent Hit by PsybeamUsed Absorb in chinchouHealth is low-green.{OOC: It would be helpful if you put your stats in your post? (OOC: Oh goodness, I'm so sorry! It's even written in the rules that you should put your pokemon's stats in battle posts, and I totally forgot. That's what I get for trying to trow a post together really fast. XP)
Cameron whooped when his partner's attack landed perfectly, blasting the shroomish back several feet. Well, that little move had more power than it first appeared to! The type advantage really wasn't on their side with this fight, but he was certain the wild pokemon wouldn't give them too much trouble. It wasn't like pokemon at such a low level had a whole lot of moves to draw from. Amica was a bit of an anomaly in that regard, since she had more attacks than most pokemon with her level of experience. It was a shame she wasn't more enthusiastic. He would have to work on that with her. For now, though, he would have to be satisfied with beating the pulp out of this mushroom.
Amica opened her eyes after her attack landed, and grimaced in sympathy when she saw that her opponent had been successfully knocked back. She wasn't allowed to stay idle for long, however, because the shroomish was soon on the move again. Cameron rolled his eyes when he realized that the grass type was aiming for his shoelaces again. Really? This pokemon had an obsession, no doubt about it. <Fine, then I'll borrow some energy.>, he suddenly announced, and launched a volley of glowing, green spheres at Amica. The chinchou was so enthralled by the move that she simply stood there, not sure how to react, as the Absorb attack flew at her. As soon as the orbs made contact, she was overwhelmed by an odd feeling of weakness, and staggered slightly where she stood. Cameron cursed under his breath, and glared at Amica. Was she so stupid that she wouldn't even try to avoid an attack? Seriously, she was going to lose them the battle if she kept that up!
"Quit fooling around, Amica! Dodging is a valuable tactic. Now, use Supersonic! That should keep him busy.", Cameron ordered, once again dancing not-so-gracefully away from the shroomish's attempts to get at his shoes. He needed those shoelaces! It wasn't like he had extras on hand! Couldn't this shroomish go pester someone else? Amica steadied herself, then aimed a ray of sound waves at the thief. This move was hardly accurate, but useful enough if it managed to hit.

P O K E M O N . E N C O U N T E R . . . The sound waves seemed to not have done anything to the shroomish at first, the Pokémon feeling quite happy about the whole situation. This was going to me way too easy. He would just have to get rid of this light-glower before stealing those wonderful shoelaces.
The Pokémon grinned and tried to move, getting ready for his next attack, when the wave of confusion washed over him. It was like a headache and a hallucination, all wrapped into one terrible package. The flaps around the Pokémon extended out, to stabilize him a bit even though he wasn't actually moving. The world around him was, though, and as he tried to take a step forward, the shroomish fell instead. Damned confusion.

Anger did not begin to describe the feeling that Cameron experienced when, even after the sound wave made full contact with the shroomish, there seemed to be no effect. What!? There was no way that pokemon could be immune to Supersonic! There were a precious few pokemon that could remain unaffected by the move, and shroomishes were not amongst that number. Evidently there was something wrong with Amica's execution, or something. Cameron was about to offer his useless parter a tongue lashing when, suddenly, their opponent tried to take a step, and fell flat on his face.
"Yes! Now, follow that up with another Psybeam! Grind this pest into the ground, Amica!" He was probably enjoying this battle way more than was strictly proper, but that didn't matter to the teen at that moment. He was participating in his first ever pokemon battle, and it was going spectacularly well, in his opinion. Amica was considerably less pleased, but she wasn't about to cross her trainer's wishes. So, she gathered her mental energy, which was still a little scattered from the Absorb attack, and sent another beam at her prone opponent. Her head was starting to ache from using the move, although she would never admit as much to Cameron. Something told her that he would be unimpressed by the show of weakness.

First, he was all fine and dandy and about to do some serious damage to the opponent, and in a matter of seconds he found himself on the ground, hurting himself and not the opponent. What?! It was all such a blur and such a confusing situation to him that he honestly did not know what to do about it. How was he going to steal the shoelaces if he could not even stop himself from hitting the ground? It did not make any sense to the green pokemon at all.
And then, a weird purple blast made its way toward him which did not help either. The attack wasn't all that bright, but in his current confused state it felt like looking into the sun. The Shroomish was unable to see at all when the attack came and it smacked hard against his body, sending him in a bad tumble until he smacked hard onto the ground and found himself bruising even more.
>Ouch! Ugh. All this for shoelaces...< He said in a disappointed tone although he was still feeling the effects of that supersonic from before. He felt the world spin a bit and felt a bit light headed. Could it be what he ate? Or was it the beam? The Shroomish had no idea at all, which did not help as he toppled over and hurt himself once more. Face palm!

Amica's attack hit the still-disoriented shroomish with a good deal of force, knocking him back against the ground again. Cameron barely resisted the urge to giggle in glee at this development. The wild Pokémon was completely helpless in the midst of his confusion! Supersonic was quite the handy attack, it turned out. >Ouch! Ugh. All this for shoelaces...<, the shroomish grumbled. He sounded so delightfully disappointed! The plant Pokémon tried to get up, but only toppled over once more.
"C'mon, Amica, send him another Psybeam!", he told her confidently, and Amica's heart sank. Again? She doubted that she could manage two Psybeams in a row. Nonetheless, she tried, trying to draw on her depleted mental reserves. Unfortunately, even after several seconds of trying, she had no luck. There was just no way she could manage another Psybeam at that moment. She looked back at Cameron with apologetic eyes, and his face instantly darkened. "What's wrong, can't even manage that simple command? What's wrong with you?", he demanded, taking a step towards her. Amica shrank away, but fortunately, Cameron seemed to get a hold of himself at that moment.
"Alright, fine. Let's try out that new move of yours, Volt Switch.", he said through clenched teeth, his hands curling into fists. The electric move wouldn't be as effective against the shroomish, but it was the strongest move they had to work with. Right then, he just wanted to finish the battle and move on. He was already starting to get bored of this fight. Amica jumped into action, eager to alleviate her trainer's disappointment. Taking a deep breath, she brought her two orbs together, and focused on gathering the energy into a compact ball. She had never done this attack before, so it took an unusually-long amount of time to gather it together. Eventually, though, she managed to launch the sphere of electricity at her opponent. Cameron watched her strained efforts without feeling even marginally impressed.

The loose strands of electricity lit up the sky with a crack. Already confused, Shroomish's eyes grew wide with morbid fascination. <Those... look like shoelaces...> he waddled towards the electricity, not realizing they would hurt. ZAP! Stunned, the force of the shock nearly knocked him on his ass.
Effects of confusion were starting to lessen now. Gazing upwards, he could see the sky and to his complete shock, it wasn't green with purple dots, it was blue! The trees didn't have clown faces anymore, and the sounds of starly chirping didn't sound like heavy metal music. It was a world he could get used to.
Slowly his gaze shifted to his foe. He'd forgotten why they'd been sparring, but defend himself he must! Summoning his remaining strength, he launched himself at chinchou and braced for the full-contact tackle. 5 (m) shroomish Effect Spore - Poison Heal Absorb - Tackle Dubious - Thief - Complacent hit by volt switch attempted a tackle HEALTH: red ooc; I'm so sorry it took so long to get you modded ;_;

Cameron watched with stunned amusement as the shroomish actually waddled towards the electricity. Was he mentally challenged or something? Then again, you had to be, if you were someone who tried stealing shoelaces from random passerby's. The confusion probably didn't help, either. The amazingly stupid display was still fun to watch, however. As expected, the attack hit, and the shroomish was knocked off balance again. Unfortunately, this time he managed to maintain his footing. What was even worse, the confusion seemed to be wearing off, because the shroomish then managed to aim a tackle at Amica. Cameron's partner was too preoccupied with the sensation of near-complete electrical drainage to notice this development, and was hit by the full force of the attack. With a small cry, she was knocked on her side, and was forced to struggle for several seconds in order to right herself again.
The teen took a moment to consider his options. The shroomish was no-longer confused, but he seemed close enough to fainting to make trying to confuse him again rather useless. Psybeam was obviously a problem for Amica, somehow, and he was well aware that she wouldn't be able to manage another Volt Switch at that moment. She only had so much electricity stored in those orbs, after all. That left only...Bubble? Really? That was one of the weakest moves he was aware of, and shroomish had a type advantage over it! It would do practically no damage! He rubbed his face with a sigh, then shouted the ridiculous order at Amica.
"Okay, use Bubble now. Just...make it a good one, alright?" That last part was said with a rather exasperated tone. Amica brightened slightly, then nodded. She was good at Bubble! She had been using it her entire (short) life, after all! She inhaled deeply again, then shot out a small stream of bubbles at her opponent.

The Bubble attack, despite being a pathetic weakling of a move, was still accurate enough. It hit the shroomish dead on, but didn't knock it out, as expected. Honestly, if that move had knocked their opponent out, Cameron would have been dumbstruck. <Hah, I will leave with this shoela-> Apparently the confusion hadn't quite worn off yet, or the Pokémon just had a terrible sense of balance, because its speech was cut short when the shroomish face-planted on the ground, knocking himself unconscious as a result.
For a moment Cameron just stared at the scene. After a couple seconds, though, he couldn't help but erupt into compulsive laughter. That...that was just priceless. The shroomished finished itself off! How pathetic could you get? He needed more Pokémon on his team, but he refused to work with such a useless creature. Pointedly, he walked around the prostrate form of their fallen opponent and continued down the trail. Amica eyed the shroomish with a quiet whimper, then hurried to join her trainer.
"Alright, let's stop and have some lunch. You really need to build up your endurance, by the way.", Cameron told the chinchou, a bit less harshly now that the battle had ended in their favor. He led her towards one of the trees that bordered the trail, and sat himself down in the shade, even though it really wasn't that sunny to begin with. Cameron pulled out a pre-made sandwich for himself, and a can of Pokémon pellets for Amica. Their food wasn't exactly high class, but it would do. Just as they were beginning to much on their respective meals, Cameron spotted something out of the corner of his eye.
"Hey, Amica, do you see that?", he asked, gesturing towards the object that was partially hidden in a nearby bush. Amica looked over, and nodded her agreement. <Y-yeah! It looks like an egg!> That's what it looked like to her too, huh? Cameron got to his feet again, abandoning his sandwich, and walked over to the mysterious item. Sure enough, as he pulled away the branches of the plant, it was revealed to be a pokemon egg. Why was it just lying there, abandoned? Oh well, he might as well keep it himself, and hope that it hatched into something useful. He reached down and scooped it up, before returning the Amica, who was watching him from her position under the tree. Setting it next to him, Cameron resumed eating, his thoughts consumed with wondering what sort of creature was developing inside that shell.

The duo had almost managed to finish their lunch when something else happened to delay their continued travels even more. This time, though, Cameron was not the first one to notice what was going on. The teen was too absorbed in his own thoughts to pay attention to his surroundings, and the shouted warning of a wild Pokémon did not even register in his mind. Amica's shrill squeak of terror did the trick, though, and Cameron glanced up from the few remaining bites of his sandwich. His field of vision was immediately taken up by a small, green watering can. Cameron hastily ducked away from the random projectile, but the motion jostled the egg next to him, and sent it careening towards a jutting rock (the same one that the budew had tripped over, although Cameron didn't know that fact), against which it slammed with a sharp 'CRACK'.
<Oh dear!>, Amica exclaimed, her voice still much too shrill. Cameron sat there, dazed for a moment. What...? He had just been sitting there, eating lunch! Why had fate deemed it necessary to toss superfluous watering cans at him? Where had that thing come from, anyway? He glanced around, and spotted the nearby budew, who was standing rather close to the egg. Cameron glared at it.
"Look what you made me do! That egg might have had something valuable inside, but it's probably useless now because of you!", he scolded harshly, but didn't really bother to stand up. "Amica, go check to see how damaged the egg is." The chinchou nodded, then bustled over to the unhatched Pokémon. She rolled it over gently, checking for obvious signs of harm. After a moment, she looked over at her trainer, and shrugged.
<There a-are no cracks, at least. C-could be internal d-damage, though.>, Amica reported, then turned to offer the budew a comforting smile. <D-don't worry, I'm sure it'll b-be fine. It wasn't your fault.> Cameron did not agree with Amica's assessment of the grass type's innocence, but he decided to say nothing further for the moment.

This budew seemed to be a lot like Amica. It was rather pathetic, actually. One shy, naive little heart was one thing, but two? Cameron's shouted remonstrations had obviously left her close to tears, and the plant stuttered out an apology. Amica's report that the egg didn't appear to be damaged caused the budew to brighten slightly. >I’m sure it’ll be okay… I’ll even help you take care of it!<, the wild pokemon offered with a nod. Really? She was offering to help take care of the egg? It would actually be quite helpful to have a designated egg-sitter. That way Amica and himself wouldn't have to worry about the thing, and could focus on more important activities, like battling. Cameron stared thoughtfully at the budew for a moment, then nodded.
"Alright, deal. You almost damaged the egg, now you have to help us care for it. Here." Cameron pulled out an empty pokeball from his backpack, and tossed it on the ground near the grass type. "I trust you know how it works. Just touch it, and let the device do the rest. From now on, you are the official egg-watcher, okay?" He was being quite presumptuous, but Cameron didn't think that the pokemon would refuse. She seemed to have just as feeble a will as Amica, after all. Amica herself watched all of this with a woeful expression.
<B-but it wasn't her f-fault!>, she argued quietly, but Cameron silenced her with a glare. Couldn't she see how excellent this opportunity is? Once this egg hatched, more were bound to follow eventually. This way, he had someone who was willing to deal with the eggs so that he didn't have to. Amica whimpered quietly, and hid behind the unhatched pokemon, as if it were some wall to separate her from his scolding gaze.

BUDEW (F) 6 [ GRASS | POISON ] NATURAL CURE | POISON POINT growth . water sport . stun spore likes to take care of plants . sings to herself . take it bit to realize things Nearly bursting into tears, Budew's lower lip quivered. Although the egg appeared to be in good condition, Budew didn't want to take any chances.
<Are you going to care for me, too? What about my needs? I-I just want to be loved...> she whimpered, drawing closer to the trainer and the pokeball. She glanced helplessly at Chinchou to ease her fears, searching the pokemon's eyes for any signs of comfort. <I-I just don't know...>
Gaze shifted to the pokeball laying on the ground. It didn't exactly look inviting.

Cameron watched the budew with amusement, mixed with a little pity, as her lower lip quivered. She obviously wasn't too eager to give up the life of a wild pokemon. He couldn't really blame her. However, she was the one that offered to help in the first place, and he wasn't about to let her off the hook now. <Are you going to care for me, too? What about my needs? I-I just want to be loved...>, the plant whimpered, taking a few steps forward. Amica offered the budew a small, but warm, smile when she looked over at her for comfort. <I-I just don't know...>
<Y-you don't ha...> Amica's voice trailed off when Cameron sent her another look. <D-don't worry, we'll t-take care of you, too! You won't even have to fight, r-right?> She looked over to her trainer, but Cameron didn't respond. He wasn't about to make promises like that. The budew didn't seem to be too strong at the moment, but with some training, she might become a useful part of the team.
"You'll get food, water, shelter, everything you need. It's not like life in the wilderness is particularly rewarding, right?", Cameron said with a slight laugh, before walking over to pick up the egg. Just as Amica had said, there was no visible damage. It would probably be fine, then. He didn't say as much to the budew, though. Instead, he simply turned and fixed the pokemon with a careful stare, waiting for her final decision.

::budew:: BUDEW (F) 6 [ GRASS | POISON ] NATURAL CURE | POISON POINT growth . water sport . stun spore likes to take care of plants . sings to herself . take it bit to realize things <Maybe....> She said, thinking about it. If she went along with Cameron then she'd never want for food or water ever again. Any poke'mon with half a brain would take at least a minute to consider going with a trainer. And this guy seemed okay. But then she began to think about everything that she would lose if she went with this trainer and left her home here on Route 1. All of her friends. The comfort of knowing exactly where she was and how to get around. And her plants. Her darling plants. There would be no more plants for her to take care of. Well except for herself. <I don't think I want to go with you...> She was a plant, she could get all the food she wanted from the sun. She looked sheepishly up at the trainer. <I'm sorry to disappoint.>
