"And there he goes! Ruthless yet gorgeous, Ty's Nidoqueen is retaliating with a Body Slam!" A proud announcer cried out with a microphone held closely to his mouth, practically breathing on it as he spectated one of many Pok?mon Battles in the park. A small crowd gathered around the novice battle, where competitors competed for a splendid cash prize. It was all part of the Verona Homedays, a local festival held once a year to celebrate the community. Different communities worked together to set up the event in Cieli di Passione Parco, and this was the fabulous result. The tournament was only one of many events going on, as multicolored tents decorated the paths in the park. It was a hot and sunny day in Verona, and most guests were hiding under the shade to escape the afternoon heat.
It was enough to give Susumu an edge in his match with Ty, feeling confident as the mighty Nidoqueen attempted to slam down on his Tepig. "Solarbeam!" He ordered, knowing that the Tepig had charged enough in the previous turn. Koop opened his mouth right as the Nidoqueen squished him, firing off a blinding Solarbeam as his tail sizzled like a sparkler on the fourth of July. "Is this it for Ty and Princess?!" The announcer cried once more, absolutely flabbergasted as the Nidoqueen struggled to stand back up after the hit. <Hehehehehe. Long live the queen!> He squealed, wiggling his tail with excitement as the Solarbeam died down. To him, it was already clear that he was the winner. Why did the announcer have to delay things with all of this suspense?
Ding ding ding! A metal bell on the side of the announcer's chair echoed across the field, signaling the Nidoqueen's defeat. "This is it! Susumu and Koop have won their second round! Can they keep this up? One more battle can determine whether he wins or loses!" The announcer wildly waved his hands around, trying to gather attention to the local tournament. Susumu sighed and took a dry cloth out of his jean pocket, dabbing the sweat off his forehead as the announcer rambled on and on. Gosh, this weather was ridiculous. People were saying that there was a drought going on, and he could see why. This was nuts, and he almost felt guilty for using a fire type in a time like this.
He gave Ty a sympathetic smile as the defeated trainer sulked off, most likely going off into the shade to give himself a break. It felt strange being the center of attention like this, even though there had to be a group of 5-6 trainers watching him. To him, that was enough to make him uncomfortable. He shivered as he thought about the reputation the announcer was giving him, not entirely sure if he liked being seen as this 'big, tough trainer from the Fiore region'. It didn't sit well with him, and high expectations were one of his pet peeves. <Squeee! I'll find us a challenger!> The Tepig laughed, bolting behind Susumu and running into the crowd in search of a challenger. "Hey! You! Koop! Get back here. Don't make me count to three." Susumu wanted to hit something when the Tepig ran off, but at least Koop stayed in his sights as the piglet sniffed around for fellow trainers.
