Sam had gotten his message, he had a table set up to him in Verona Cafe and a suit that came with the service. When he opened up the package and looked at the suit, he realized that it was similar to a waiters outfit.
"Wait? You want me to wear this? But how can you tell me apart from the waiter than?" He asked out loud, before he realized he was talking to himself. It seemed the blond was extra nervous tonight. It had been a year since he did this, and in that year he had struck out completely and not found a single love. It was this or nothing, if this failed, Sam felt he might just be alone forever.
Sure he was only 16 and high school wasn't meant to be the best time for everyone, but he had tried so hard and failed so hard! He wondered if it was because he was going after the wrong type the entire time... He gave it some thought before he took a seat.
As he sat, he fidgeted nervously waiting for his partner. Then he touched his suit pocket and realized he forgot a special little tidbit which was why no one probably showed up yet. "Right! The rose. Almost forgot!" He said, as he took out that single rose and placed it in the cup of water provided in the table. Now, everything was set up and perfect. Now, hopefully his special lady friend would be here soon.
Only one minor problem, he could not help but fidget when seated so he decided to stand and hover near the table... Probably not the best idea, as the date, when she comes might confuse him for the waiter... Oh boy!! That'd be awkward and disastrous. |

Abi wasn't one for dressing up too fancy, it irked her. She never really felt comfortable in skirts or dresses which is what girls were required to wear on occasions such as this. But stuff that. She wore what she felt comfortable in. If her date didn't approve, that was his problem! As she pushed the door open to the Verona cafe she looked around, trying to find the red rose on any of the tables. That was what the letter had said to look for. When she finally spotted it she was surprised to find only a waiter hovering near the table. He looked a little young to have a job already, but how and ever. She could at least get a drink before her date arrived.
Striding over to the young man she nodded to him, a smile already on her lips, "Just a water for now please."

They had a date for lunch, not for dinner. It was more a meeting spot, to get coffee and get to know each other. Sure he would have preferred a romantic dinner but this could do just fine. The thing that shocked him was, when she came to the table she assumed he was the waiter! Him? Waiter? Oh boy, he had enough money to likely buy off Verona Cafe, why in the world would he be the waiter? This was simply silly to him, but he decided to play along as he thought she was just role playing.
"Sure thing miss. I can get that for you. Anything else you want? Cookie? Cake? Appetizer? Massage? Anything?" He asked her, with a big grin on his face as he took a seat and crossed his hands in front of her. "By the way, the name is Sam. What is your name?" He asked, before he decided to finally bring up what he was doing here instead of just simply creeping her out. "I believe we are on a date together." |

"Massage? Excuse me?" Abi questioned, taken aback. That was a weird thing to suggest. But wait, why was he sitting down across from her? What on earth... Oh hell.. This was her date?! This boy?! She had asked for a guy her own age or older! Not a kid who could be her younger brother! Oh she was going to have words wwith the organiser over this, very unpleasant words.
"A date.. Really.. Well em, I believe I'm a little old for you considering you look about half my age", she commented dryly.

"Half your age? Oh you do not look like that." He said, taking a defensive stand momentarily before he calmed down and decided to talk to her and actually try to get to know her better even though she did not enjoy his company at the moment. "And I just look young. I'm actually not that young. Just age very well." He said, giving her a wink and blowing a kiss at her after, trying to be flirty although he probably failed bad doing it.
"So. What is your name? Mine is Sam. Sam Robins." He said. He waited for her to reply after, hoping that she would at least give him a chance. If not, she might not be worth it then... The actual waiter suddenly walked by, ready to take their order, but Sam quickly motioned for him to leave, as he wanted some conversation before they began to order. |

Abi felt a little bad for making Sam react defensively, she probably should be kinder, it was just a shock to see such a young boy sitting at the table where she'd hoped to meet a guy. But when he winked and blew her a kiss Abi decided that some rules just had to be laid down.
"I apologise if I was rude, I just wasn't expecting someone of your, em, age to be at my table. But I'm sure you're a nice guy and I'd be happy enough to spend the afternoon getting to know you, just.. don't do that again", she said, referring to the kissy thing. "If it's alright with you I think this date might be better considered a friendship date rather than trying to make anything else out of it..." She trailed off, hoping he wouldn't mind. She really had no intention of becoming romantically involved with a guy at leats four or five years younger than her. It would just be weird!
"Nice to meet you Sam, my name is Abi Orichalcum. So, are you a pokemon trainer?"

How awful. It took just twenty seconds and already he had hit the friend zone. What could have gone so wrong for this to happen? Seriously? He thought he was doing a good job and yet he was already in the friend zone... That was just disappointing. And embarrassing. But at least he could maybe try for friends with benefits? He thought about it for a second and had a big silly grin on his face, like any youth who would think of smething sexual. Boy they were so immature, it was quite embarrassing actually.
"Sure. Friends it is. So, where are you from?" He asked her. He wanted to ask a million questions but felt one was adequate for now. Didn't want to scare her off in the first minute or anything. That would be unfortunate.
Now, the waiter came back again, seeing how the situation was turning up. "So, ready for your order?" The waiter asked. But Sam again tried to shove him away. But this time, he did not leave. "Look dude, you have no shot with her. Might as well get your free meal and accept defeat. While the night is still young. Let her find someone else, someone who can treat her right." He said to Sam.
Wow, harsh words. And bad service... Did this guy want a bad review and zero tip?!

Abi smiled, relieved that he had agreed to her friendship terms. If he hadn't, it may have gotten even more awkward.. "I'm from Kanto, Viridian City to be specific. How about yourself?" she asked, genuinely curious.
They're conversation was interrupted however when the waiter returned. Abi was stunned at his rudeness and immediately stood up. She wasn't one to take such insults lightly, and her protective streak had just kicked in. "He is treating me just fine, unlike yourself" she spat at the waiter, "I do not wish to see you at our table again, have the manager send us another waiter or we will be leaving with exceptionally detailed complaints about your behaviour."
Her had had automatically grasped one of her pokeballs, regardless of the date rules, ready to settle this matter easily by introducing this idiot to her twenty eight foot onix.
"One more word buddy and not only could I destroy your career here, but also your pretty face."

So, SCARY. Whatever Sam felt for her quickly disappeared when she yelled at the waiter. He was rude, sure, but she completely made a scene and now all eyes in the restaurant stared at them. He felt super awkward now as he just wanted to get up and leave, feeling it wasn't worth staying around anymore. She definitely wasn't the type of person he thought she'd be, and he completely lost interest in her after that outburst.
The waiter seemed to feel the same. "Alright. I'm sorry, I'll get someone else." He said as he walked to the back. He got a mental image of her though, that is one person he did not want to see her ever again. And he knew he could plead his case easily and get her banned from the cafe. It wouldn't be hard.
With him gone though, Sam decided to sit and cross his hands while he looked at Abi. "You okay?" He asked her, genuinely worried but also trying to poke at her a bit, letting her know that what she did was incredibly rude and uncalled for also. He then remembered her question and began to answer. "Where I'm from? Um... Sinnoh. Yes, my parents are scientists there." He said to her, with a smile on his face.
He kept his eyes on her pokeball though, she should put it away soon before the situation became even worst.

Abi sat down, satisfied that she'd made her point and that waiter wouldn't be coming back any time soon. She looked over at Sam and saw a very startled expression on his face. Oh.. she'd frightened him a little. Woops.. She bit her lip, suddenly feeling abashed. "Oh.. em.. yes.. I'm fine.." She glance around the room quickly before focusing on her date again.
"That was probably a bit more than was necessary", she admitted, referring to her reaction, "But I've been travelling on my own for a long time so I'm not exactly good with social situations. I'm used to protecting myself and those I care about, to any extremes. Travelling can be dangerous, especially for a girl, so I guess I'm a little hardened." It was difficult for her to say this, but she felt she owed Sam an explanation.
"Scientists?" she asked curiously as she returned her pokeball to her pocket.

"Ah? Yes I know what you mean. When I first started Cheyenne, that was the first time I went away from my parents. We still talk all the times but it is not the same being away. But you do get used to it with time. And the gyms and stuff take your mind off of it, as you won't have as much time to have sad thoughts anymore." He said to her. He had a lot of experience with his two badges, and on his way to trying for the third. Just battling for a badge, he had to empty his mind from being homesick as he had to be fully committed to winning or else he wouldn't win.
He knew all about it as he had lost his fair share of matches all. Mainly because he was fully committed. It was a big factor that he had to deal with, and one he had gotten more used to. "Yes, my parents are scientists. When I first came here they were doing some research on a dragon's den that they recently discovered. And from it, they found an egg that they gave me." He said, reminiscing about how he met Toothless. The one small Bagon that was a baby, now turned into a large dragon.

As Sam relaxed, Abi did too. She smiled, grateful for his experience in journeying with his pokemon. Though she had travelled a lot, it didn't equate with travelling as a trainer. She had new things to focus on now, such as battles and badges as well as knowing that she had to take care of her growing team. But she was enjoying the new experience immensely.
"That sounds really interesting" she commented, curious as to what else they did as scientists. "What did it hatch into? And did you never want to follow in your parents footsteps?" she asked. He was a much more interesting person than she had previously thought, but then again she had an awful habit of judging people too soon.

"Oh the pokemon? I had no idea what it was originally. They gave it to me as an early holiday present and told me to take care of it and carry it with me." He said to her, before he stopped and called over a waiter as his mouth began to get a bit dry.
"Excuse me sir. What may I get for you?" The waiter asked, to which Sam said: "A glass of water for starters. Do you want anything?" He asked Abi after before he continued with his story.
"Honestly, I would have carried it with me regardless of what it turned out to be. As it helped me remember my parents. But it ended up being my favorite pokemon also, so it became a no brainer." He said, before he realized that he still had not yet answered the question.
"It turned to a Bagon. I was so shocked and so happy. I named her Toothless. It's been ages since she hatched though..." He said. He would show her but there were rules against that.
The waiter waited there for Abi to answer. But he wasn't upset or anything. He did not mind the wait, he too liked Bagon a lot so he decided to interject quickly. "A Bagon? You don't say. My gosh, it is my favorite too!" He said and Sam quickly took that into mind. He might just have to increase tip now.
"Now about following in their footsteps? Maybe. But for now I want to just be a trainer. They started as trainers also before they became scientists...
