Did he want to waste his time with some TD grunt? Not really. All of this was completely useless and he tried to remind himself that as a trainer, one never refused a challenge.
He would show up, but he wasn't all that concerned about winning. More than anything, he wanted to train his pokemon a bit, maybe allow them to gain some experience against a different style of battle. Only Arceus knew how ShinyAss managed to stay on Team Death after such long leaves of absence. He did not fit in TD's new vision, but Blaze supposed he had to humour the man.
He walked into the expert room, opening one door after the other until he finally found the one Nick had chosen. The battlefield was plain -- wooden floors that did not offer as much grip, polished in attempts to hide the markings left by the pokemon battles. No field advantages. Just skill. Typical. The large scoring screen was a nice touch, though. It would allow them to keep track of wins and losses.
"What rules do you want to play under?" Blaze asked as he took his place on one side of the battlefield. Would Nick was a single battle? Double battle? How many pokemon would they be using? Blaze stood there, looking almost bored.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,560,true] "The rules are simple. Full battle. One on one." The trainer calmly stated as he reached into his pocket for his first Pokeball. Nick was not moved by Blaze's lack of enthusiam, it just further conveyed the Team Death Admin's lack of passion; something Nick could not stand. Will this battle cure the hostility between the two? Hopefully having a victor would bring a balance and keep the two from butting heads.
Nick would press the center button, releasing a beam of red onto the battlefield. The light would go from a splash to a specific form. The Pokémon on the field was tiny, but definitely one of Nick's strongest. One feature not to be overlooked was the Pokemon's green color. The beast was quite shiny, with her jaded coat. Nick cracked his knuckles as he awaited to see Blaze's first choice against his Eevee.

This was not happening. Blaze did not have the time to spend, battling with all of his pokemon. Did Nick really think he didn't have anything better to do? To be fair, Blaze really didn't have much to do, but he did not want to a long, drawn out battle. " I will have to say no to that," said Blaze as Nick released his first pokemon. The trainer had expected one of the dragon pokemon Nick prided himself with. Really, was he serious? An eevee? He guessed a jade eevee was kind of rare, but what about all of those rare, powerful dragons the trainer boasted about? Maybe Blaze had taken away the only good pokemon Nick had. Well, that was unfortunate. Blaze released his own pokemon. Lotus, the combusken, was released, the fire type timidly standing in the battle field, wondering if Blaze wanted her to battle again. " Best two out of three," he told the trainer. " Unless you think you need more to... what was this all for again?" Lotus would be a good match against this pokemon. He had a type advantage and she was still relatively inexperienced, and so it would be good practice for her. The pokemon gripped onto her quick claw, trying to psych herself into battle. ::combusken:: NAME » lotus MET AT » syl at level fifteen ITEM » quick claw - attacks twice every three turns ABILITY » blaze - powers up fire moves in a pinch GROWL - FOCUS ENERGY - PECK - SCRATCH - BRICK BREAK - FLAME CHARGE - EMBER - DOUBLE KICK - CUT

Lotus could go for a bit of training, and Mothra definitely had to level up as well. But that was all for later. He had to help Lotus along, first. The pokemon started off by raising his pokemon's defense, which would be quite a problem. He would have to take the pokemon down fast. " Focus Energy," he called out, letting his pokemon get into the mindset of battling. " Double kick and Brick Break." On the first turn, he knew that Lotus would be able to pull it off. The quick claw gave her speed and allowed her to start off strong and get a few good hits in first. " But tell me," said Blaze, thinking about Nick's words for a bit. " What exactly did I do to you?" He honestly didn't even know the trainer too much. He was a subordinate that disappeared for long periods of time and wasn't reliable, so it was only natural for him to ask for a collateral in exchange for a large sum of money. But what had he ever actually done to the trainer? Did he forget something important? Did he inadvertently insult ShinyAss's pride? He supposed the nickname didn't help, but it wasn't as if he didn't call Syl something just as insulting to his face. It wasn't as if Syl didn't participate in helping him name all of the grunts that walked through TD halls. Nick just had this weird fascination with Syl, Blaze decided. He probably idolized the useless redhead and hated him just by association. But really, what issue did he have against him, as a person? " What have I, as a person, done to you?" The pokemon rushed over to the normal-type, trying to punch the pokemon first before using a couple of kicks to deal some extra damage. High defense or not, a string of super effective hits were sure to deal damage. A critical hit would just be bonus. ::combusken:: { Crit + }

He wondered how the pokemon got so good at battling, when the trainer distinctively remembered seeing Nick trying to pawn her off. He wondered if that eevee knew that her trainer didn't care for her. Still, the double kick did the damage it needed before Lotus tried to retreat. And then Nick pushed his hand forward and Blaze tried not to laugh. But with the eevee's back to her trainer, he wondered how she even saw it. Then he saw it -- the pokemon turned her neck a bit to be able to glance at the hand gestures. Lotus took that time to move even further away, until the quick attack wasn't nearly as effective as it could be. Besides really, how the fuck is a piece of rock able to move quickly? " So basically, I didn't do anything to you," said Blaze, " And you dislike me for very childish and illogical reasons." He was actually a bit amused at this whole exchange. He would not bother explaining finances to this trainer, who was either too dumb to even begin to grasp how economics worked. Collaterals were important to ensure a return, and it was a good thing he asked for one since Nick's little trip to Legendary Isle resulted in absolutely nothing. A whole summer wasted. He kind of wondered why Syl even liked this guy. " Ember while she's close, and Growl," he called out. " But no, I don't dislike you as a person." Nick had done nothing to him personally, but as an asset to the team? He had no value. " You're just useless to the team and I don't know why you still call yourself a member of team death." His pokemon had just taken the quick attack very well, the distance that had been put between them reducing the efficiency. She countered it by shooting out a volley of small fire balls, taking advantage of the close distance before stepping back a bit to growl at the eevee. ::combusken:: { Crit + } Quick Attack Ember ! [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,560,true] Vivi braced herself for the tiny balls of fire. Nick quickly pushed forward with his right hand then then left his index and middle finger in the upright position; the peace sign. He then folded his fingers ordering Vivi to attack.
Nick reflected upon Blaze's response. His distaste for Blaze still stood, despite his words. The dislike may be a little extreme, yes, but illogical and childish not at all. Regardless, Blaze's words, "I don't know why you still call yourself a member of team death." rung strongly in mind of Nick. "Yes, why me, such an expendable person, why am I still a member?" He said questioning himself, and pondering on the idea. He had been here before in life and thought, why is he still apart of Team Death.
Meanwhile, the Eevee used Iron Defense once more, beefing up its defenses to their maximum potential. The distance between the battlers was small, as Vivi quickly noted. Taking advantage of her height she would take a small leap forward to bite the thigh of the Combusken.

Blaze already knew what was going to happen, but as long as he kept using his fire attacks, the raise in defense would not affect him too much. The most entertaining part of this whole battle was definitely those bizarre hand movements that really crippled the pokemon. Every time the pokemon had to look back at her trainer, it allowed Lotus time to brace herself. The eevee leaped, and so did the combusken. Her strong legs propelled her much higher up, avoiding the jaws of the eevee. Next turn, she would be able to use her quick claw again. Until then, just a single volley of ember was shot down where she used to be -- where the eevee now was. " Who knows," said Blaze. Personally, Team Death was a bit busy right now, reorganizing things and reevaluating itself. He had been spending so much time in the office with Syl, discussing views and ideals. They hadn't even had enough time to think of the members. Besides, it wasn't as if Nick was around long enough for them to ever have a talk with him. Blaze told him as much. ::combusken:: [ Quick Claw 3/3 ] { Crit + }

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,560,true] Nick watched as Vivi was hit by the barrage of flames. The little Eevee leaped backwards to create more distance between the two. Nick didn't want to continue the battle with Vivi anymore nor battle this Combusken. "Baton Pass." Nick called. A red light covered the jaded Pokemon as she was returned to her PokeBall. Next up would be, Dew.
Nick refrained from doing anything this round. But it was now time to start using his dragons. Team Death, I am not a good operative. I am not a silly imbecile either, perhaps I don't fit into that group. The man continued to think while he waited for the Combusken's actions.

It had been more than obvious that the trainer cared not for the eevee and had no emotional attachment. He was willing to sell them like cattle, marketing them in the trainer lounge. She was only there to help him beef up the defense of his precious dragons. What kind of trainer treated his pokemon like tools? Blaze did not approve of it. Pokemon deserved to be more than that. Now he had to deal with what Nick was known for. Personally, he thought dragon types were a pain to train. He tried to get a flygon but the trapinch never quite evolved. Yes, they had good resistances, but as long as Blaze hit them long enough and hard enough, it wasn't too bad. Besides, most people didn't have any. It would be a pain, though, to bust through these dragons. He reminded himself that this was more of a learning experienced and he didn't particularly care whether he won or not. Besides, just being able to watch Nick 'battle' was hilarious enough. He considered bringing up the Santa picture he had, just for fun. No. He'd save it for later. "Only fire attacks now, Lotus," he told his pokemon. With the buffed up defenses, it would be the only way to go. He was a bit annoyed that the focus energy hadn't taken effect yet, though. "Focus again, and then attack," he told his pokemon. Lotus was still confused about the sudden switch in pokemon, wondering why the other trainer had done that, when the next commands came. She focused her energy and stared at the dratini, trying to find a weak point that would damage it critically. Zeroing in on a location that seemed a bit exposed, the pokemon let out a volley of fireballs from a couple of embers, her quick claw activating again to allow her enough time to attack the dratini twice. ::combusken:: [ Quick Claw 1/3 ] Crit ++
