Administrative work was good and all, but Blaze was sick of staying behind the desk. He needed some action, needed to let his Pokémon out more, and definitely needed to train them up. He wanted them to be able to fend for themselves, but for some of the Pokémon he owned, they were lagging behind. He walked into the expert room determined to evolve Lotus. She was a good fighter, but just a little bit timid. A few battles would allow her to gain confidence and power, and hopefully finally forget about all the torment Syl had put her through. Allowing her to walk around the small battlefield of compact dirt, he waited for an opponent. GROWL - FOCUS ENERGY - PECK - SCRATCH - BRICK BREAK - FLAME CHARGE - EMBER - DOUBLE KICK

It had been a while since he actually used his Koffing, seeing that she was mostly relying on badges and the Exp.Share for levels, Susumu decided that giving her a little trainer experience would be good for her. The Koffing hovered behind him with faint purple clouds of gas trailing behind, hardly leaving behind a scent as she giggled with wonder at each Pokémon that was outside. There were so many new kinds of Pokémon out here, it was fun to see them all! She was the only one of her species here though, making her frown a little as she trailed behind Susumu into a battle room. Susumu hesitated when he saw that Blaze was inside with a Combusken, even though it was the Expert Room, this was still awfully nerve wrecking to think about it. "Uh, hello." He was formal and stiff, still not sure how to act around Blaze as the Koffing hovered closer to the Combusken on instinct, realizing that a battle was going to be had. He'd give Blaze the first move; just to be kind to his boss.

Though her memory was a bit fuzzy, she seemed to recall seeing this trainer when she had still belonged to Syl and was completely humiliated. Her posture slouched and she wasn't sure if this was a good idea. Blaze wasn't too sure what was going on, apart from the fact that it seemed Babyface was becoming rather strong, if the koffing's strong scent and potent clouds were any indication. He locked eyes with his subordinate and nodded to acknowledge him before gently pushing Lotus into battle. " You'll do fine," he told her. " Focus Energy and Flame Charge." The combusken steeled herself and tried to focus, claws digging into the dirt underfoot as fire started to come out from her pores, surrounding her and giving her speed. She gripped onto the quick claw before leaping in for an attack. As she got a bit closer, she used an ember to pave her way, sending out a few fire balls toward the area before attempting to smack herself onto the ball of gas. quick claw 1/3[ Crit + ] focus energy ! ember ! flame charge !

Susumu didn't recognize the Combusken from before; since last time she had been a Torchic at the time, and owned by a different trainer. Sad to say, it didn't even click in his mind that they had been around each other before. He eased up at Blaze's nod of acknowledgement and started to focus more on the battle that was just starting. The Combusken was furious with those fire type attacks; probably with the help of some kind of item, but it was a rough first turn for Himeko as she was crashed into, hovering backwards with a wince as the embers continued to pelt against her body. It was time to hit them back, Susumu realized, if he wanted to earn anymore recognition. There was a new move he wanted to see Himeko use in action anyways. "Smokescreen, distract it." He advised, feeling concerned as she just scraped out an ink filled black ball from one of her holes, springing it out towards the Combusken's face to mess with her vision. "Go! Thunder!" The move was wild and strong, and it was flashy. It was kind of his style, enjoying the feel of the electricity that built around the Koffing as she let out a determined grunt as she released the energy. <This attack sucks!> New battle cry and catch phrase, the bright yellow blast rose right up from her body then descended like a lightning bolt towards the fire chicken.

She didn't have much time to think about it as dark smoke came out from one of the pores, making her eyes sting. She backed away, trying to escape the fumes, only to be hit by a bolt of thunder. Blaze was impressed and a little bit intimidated. The koffing knew some very good moves and the thunder had crippled his Pokémon quite a bit. Lotus already looked a bit discouraged, but was still willing and able to fight. " Growl and Peck," he called out, hoping to ease up the next attack that came her way. Lotus chirped once before attempting to look cute, growling to show the koffing that she wasn't dangerous and it should go easy on her. The Thunder made its mark this time; nice, since that was a great risk Susumu decided to jump into on the first turn of the battle. It was one of those hit or miss type of moves, and it seemed to quickly even things out after his Koffing took two fire type attacks. She panted as she calmed herself down from the electrical attack, fumes escaping from her body before being sucked back up, making her float up and down like a balloon. The Combusken made this rather appealing growl, which was weird because the Combusken seemed a lot older than her. She was more confused by it than anything, not used to being up against weaker foes, or ones that claimed to be weaker as she was suddenly pecked on her side. <Ow!> She yelped at the feeling of the pointy beak jabbing at her, nearly getting lodged in one of her gas holes. This was just a wild card move, but Susumu figured that it wouldn't hurt to try it out. "Hidden Power." He knew the typing at least, which happened to be Fighting. The Koffing suddenly began to look like a wild and erratic atom with little electrons spiraling around her. With a vengeful glint in her eye, she used her gravitational pull for the Hidden Power orbs to fling them at the Combusken.

It was bizarre and it made her feel uncomfortable fighting against this Pokémon who was so different than her other opponents. As if to prove her point, the Koffing then used another attack that confused him quite a bit. Blaze watched the small particles come out of the poison type's body before slamming onto Lotus. The combusken was starting to weaken from the slew of attacks. Her wing muscles still ached from the thunder attack, but she could still go on for a bit. Her next set of commands came again. " Flame Charge!" the trainer called out. Fire once again surrounded the fire type, giving her a little boost of speed as she sped over to the koffing, a bit of hesitation in her steps. quick claw 3/3[ Crit + ] [ Acc -1 ] [ Spd +1 ] hit by hidden power ! flame charge !

The Koffing grunted when she saw that the Combusken burst into flames, feeling the heat from where she was hovering as he instinctively backed off. The fire chicken was not going to let her get away though, which she noticed with a gasp and a whimper, attempting to flee from the move. It resulted in a scene of chase between ball and soccer playing chicken, but the flame charge eventually crashed into her due to the fire type's boosts in speed. She yelped as she felt the heat press into her body, knocking her right down on the floor and making her skid, feeling even more heat from the friction. <Oww!> She whined, whimpering as she got back up with teary eyes. Pain sucked, she hated it! She lobbed another Smokescreen ball at the Combusken to try and distract her; since she felt much safer when under the cover of a little poof of smoke. "Go for a Tackle!" Susumu called, since he didn't want to try Sludge until the Pokemon were really close to each other. It was one of her stronger attacks after all, let her save it for later. The Koffing burst straight forward at the fire chicken with a growl, determined to shove Lotus off balance.

A tackle at this point seemed like a weak move, especially since both their pokemon were starting to really tire and it was only a matter of time before one of them fainted. The attack hit, the purple ball of gas slamming into Lotus who had to use a wing to prevent her from falling. She had been disoriented from the smoke screen and it was getting harder for her to distinguish anything from the ball of koffing smoke. " Flame charge!" the trainer called out again. The pokemon took a brief moment to compose herself before charging in, fire surrounding her body and dissipating a bit of the smoke on the battlefield. As she got close, Blaze immediately let out another command, asking for a " double kick" knowing that the move would not be as efficient. However, he was really hoping that it would be enough to incapacitate the koffing, just for a little while, until Lotus was ready to attack again. The sudden change in tactics startled the fire pokemon a little bit, but she adapted quickly, though not as gracefully as she would have hoped. Instead of running into her opponent in a full body tackle, she jumped at the last second and tried to use the flame charge's momentum in order to land a kick on the poison type. She wasn't completely confident with her aim but the fire surrounding her, burning brighter due to her ability activating, gave her the resolve and confidence to trust her trainer's judgement. ::combusken:: quick claw 1/3 { activated }

So the Tackle wasn't the most effective move out there, but seeing that the Combusken was able to activate its Blaze ability, it must've been vulnerable enough to be taken down by her best attack. It was a last ditch method, and not all of his Pokémon knew the move, but it was starting to be the main theme of his team. The Koffing looked overwhelmed at the combination of strikes, holding resistance to the Double Kick but finding it more frightening than the flames. She didn't like how fast they were, cringing as she hovered away from them and used the Combusken's accuracy loss against her. The Flame Charge was still great though, boosted by the ability as it sent this tiring Pokémon right into the weak and red zone. She was tired, this fire lilly or something was tough. She wanted to just...give up! Why did she have to struggle? "Go for it, Explosion." He demanded, wondering if Lotus would be able to dodge it as the Koffing coughed up a bomb and lobbed it between the pair. It burst into a variety of colors right then, instantly taking her out as she collapsed on the floor. "Eh, at least you went out in style." He made a side comment as he returned her into her Pokeball, trying not to waste too much of Blaze's time as he sent out a Weepinbell next, who tried to not be too surprised from the remains of the explosion.

Susumu sighed when the Combusken was revealed to have fainted, feeling a little relieved that the Koffing's final burst of strength managed to even it out before she was knocked out. Team wise, they were exactly even. Two Pokémon in fresh and vivid spirits, though his was a grass type. The Houndour that appeared looked feisty, as if he was ready to brutally maul his poor Weepinbell. She stared at Makai in horror, cringing at his venomous stares. Fire types didn't normally freak her out, since she was used to a certain Vulpix messing around with her, but this was vicious. Violent. She despised battles when they were taken so seriously, to the point that others were trampled over emotionally. This Pokémon made her nervous, but she was willing to fight as long as it didn't try to kill her after their battle. "Eh, watch out for this one Blaze. She has ways around fire types." He decided to mention, since he specifically chose not to give her a Sunny Day set, knowing how vulnerable it left her to fire types. Instead, she worked a little differently. With that warning said, expecting Blaze not to underestimate them for this round, it was time to start. "Rain Dance and Acid!" Weatherball would've been too obvious right off the bat, so why not a poison type move? The Weepinbell shook her leaves left and right in a spiritual dance that called upon the moisture in the air to intensify into rain clouds above them, which then began to drizzle down on them. It felt nice to her, since plants loooved water, but Susumu was frowning in it as he shivered. Why the fuck did the rain have to be cold? And why did he always forget to bring an umbrella?! She then sprayed a glop of acid out of her mouth, trying to spray it at the dark type to give him something to think about.

As clouds started to form and a torrential rain swept over the area, both trainer and pokemon began to grow quite annoyed. Makai especially did not like to be all wet was more than ready to unleash an ember attack in order to burn the plant to a crisp. The last straw was the acid that was sprayed onto him, making him wince at the pain. Before Blaze could put an order in, the houndour attack, sending balls of fire that were much less effective in the rain toward the grass type. The trainer did his best not to show that this was not according to plan and clenched his fist before deciding that he could maybe salvage this, still. "Howl," he called out, which the houndour happily did, raising its spirits and making him even more cocky. Makai stared at Bobo, the helmet atop his head rather awkward, ready to pounce back in to deal some more damage. ::houndour:: { rocky helmet } [ Atk +2 ]

Blaze seemed to think about the rain for a bit, but otherwise didn't show intense concern or worry. Which was fine with him, really. Susumu didn't want to freak his boss out because he had a water using grass type on his team, which would probably just give Blaze's Houndour nothing but problems. What neither trainer or Pokemon expected was to have Makai attack so suddenly! The Embers burst through the rain, cut down to half of their original size as they reached their foe and struck her like weakened bullets. She cringed from the pain, taking damage as if it was a neutral attack. Ugh, Bo-Bo didn't like it one bit. Nope nope nope. The rain made things better, but she was left listening to his ominous howl as she shivered in her own rain. She was fine and dandy for now, same as the Houndour, but this was going to be tricky when she lost her rain for protection. "Go for a Sleep Powder! Then Cut!" This was it; if they could make Makai fall asleep, then Susumu would have the lead in this battle. Yet things were never that easy, were they? The Weepinbell fired a series of thick and bright green spores at the Houndour that contained some kind of trippy drug to send a Pokemon out like a borb for a few turns. It would suck. She wasn't done though, making her leaves sharper than normal as she aimed herself at him to slash at him with a nervous look on her face, as if he was going to be super mad at her for doing that.

He had wanted to use a dark-type attack, something that would make his pokemon come closer to the weepinbell and force it to use more physical attacks and have the rocky helmet deal some residual damage. Unfortunately, the grass type used a sleep powder on his pokemon, and though the rain made it harder for the powder to travel too far, Makai found himself becoming drowsier and drowsier, before curling up and taking a nap as the rain continued to beat down on him. Even as the cut sliced his side, the canine pokemon remained blissfully asleep. This was going to be quite a boring battle. ::houndour:: { +2 Atk } sleep (1/2)

The Weepinbell cringed as she managed to injure her leaves after scrapping against the rocky helmet, backing off as she looked at them in confusion as the pure rain cleaned the injury for her. What in the world was that? She felt nervous as she stared at the sleeping Makai, realizing that he was able to hurt her even in his sleep if she wasn't careful. It made her think twice about giving him a cut, that was for sure. Susumu noticed something was up, but he wasn't familiar with the Rocky Helmet item. Did she hurt herself or something? She was looking at her leaves as if something was wrong. "Go for the usual; Growth and Weatherball." Oh yes, now this was the part where he was claiming the lead. Bo-Bo perked up at the command and started to collect a weak amount of sunlight from in the room, leaves brightening up as chloroplasts and different kinds of sugars started to work and dance inside of her, making her two leaves increase in size slightly. Using the rain's power to manipulate the type of her fancy little cloud sphere, growing in size as it was boosted in power from the rain, she launched the move at the Houndour to completely soak him. Now this was bound to hurt; though yes, it was rather boring. Where was the excitement? Susumu knew it was raining and stuff, but he held his arm over his phone as he took it out and started to look through his photos. He did have a rather interesting one of Nick sitting on Santa's lap, oh yes. He had two of them that he planned on showing Blaze. "Hey Blaze, check your phone." He said as soon as he sent them to him, grinning a little with a devious grin, expecting some kind of amused or horrified reaction. Oh god, he wanted to see this so hardcore.

He guessed that it was a valiant(?) effort? Though the pokemon didn't really do too much. But the weather ball, boosted by the power of the growth and the rain, was enough to knock the Houndour out. He guessed it was small victories that the pokemon was still asleep and couldn't feel the pain as much. As he went to return his pokemon, the blond trainer told him to... check his phone? Indeed, the device vibrated, showing a rather interesting picture. Blaze couldn't help but grin at the picture, raising a hand in a futile attempt to hide his smile. He had been at the mall but found that his pride had been much to high to allow himself to sit on Santa's lap. It must not have been the case for all of his Team Death members. " Where did you get this?" he asked before releasing his next pokemon. Hades immediately felt the rain on her fur and frowned a bit, feeling rather uncomfortable in the weather. The commands for sunny day and fire fang came to her, without any hand gestures involved. The canine pokemon concentrated her power and shot a ball of fire into the air which sizzles in the rain, but slowly grew stronger and more intense until the rain was replaced by an intense sun. Well that ended up being really beneficial; as the rain continued to pour all around them, the sleeping Houndour was easily swept away with the Weatherball. Susumu was a bit relieved at the lead in the match, but it left them with a few small moments of conversation as Blaze returned and sent out his next Pokemon. He expectantly stared at Blaze's face as it turned from one of confusion to an amused one as he took in the picture, clearly recognizing the man in the photo as Nick. Ah, he figured Blaze would get a kick out of that one. Especially after that one time when they all were assigned to meet up in the ghettos to 'talk' to Nick about some kind of offer, which ended up being very weird. The fuck was wrong with his teammates? Oh well, at least he was one of the sanest of the bunch. Upon hearing the question, Susumu couldn't hold back the devious snicker as he felt like he was showing some extremely piece of gossip to an old friend, except Blaze was quite intimidating and distant. Not really one he'd have an 'old friend' vibe with, but at least they could both find amusement in something like this. "I was doing some Christmas shopping, and noticed a few familiar faces on Santa's lap." He commented, in case Blaze thought he went to see Santa. He didn't though, finding the female Santa to be a bit too much for his liking. Childish. She acted too perverted. Things like that. Blaze was quick to send out his Arcanine, which swiftly put an end to the rain storm as Bo-Bo's chlorophyll ability started to kick in. She benefited from rain and sun, but Susumu saw how this was gonna end; badly. She was hit by the crippling fire type move, flinching on the spot as she let out a pained cry from Hades's bite. "Eh...a flinch, really?" Now that was lucky. Bo-Bo was definitely getting knocked out if Blaze used an accurate attack next turn.

Hades had such an advantage in this situation, there was no way she was going to lose. Another fire fang and the weepinbel was sure to faint. " Agility and Fire Fang," he called out, taking advantage of the flinch to raise his pokemon's stats. He wasn't sure what Susumu's next Pokémon would be, but he bigger the advantage he could gain, the better. His Pokémon concentrated her energy and loosened her muscles in order to gain some speed before she rushed in for another fire fang. The Pokémon felt the guilt, not too comfortable attacking a defenceless Pokémon. The attacks seemed overkill, and with the sun boosting her power, the grass type did not stand a chance. She'll just have to see what comes out next. " You'd make quite an informant," commented Blaze, still rather giddy over the priceless picture. sunny day 2/5Speed +2 Agility ! Fire Fang !

It was a shame that the Weepinbell had no time to attack or dodge despite the flinch condition, but she was left vulnerable to the assault. It didn't matter whether the large fire beast had guilt or not, because the attack held no mercy as the flames licked against her sides, making her shrivel up with a frantic gasp for breath until she fainted in Hades's grip. Susumu saw that coming though, and with a sympathetic smile to his Pokemon the most he could do was return her into her Pokeball to give her some time to rest. She did well enough, in his opinion. He was left dealing with Blaze's Arcanine and her boosted speed, as well as her advantage in the sun that gave her a defense against water type moves. He could've went for his Vulpix, but with that new Dream World ability? He'd put him on hold for now. This time he tossed out a more neutral Pokemon for the battle, revealing a small Trubbish that emerged with a dazed look towards the dame. <Hot dog...> He whistled, not flirting, but saying it for the pun as well as the expression as he shook his head. He was terrified. "Stockpile and Acid Spray." Muda wasn't going to attack on his own, judging from how nervous he looked. The Trubbish grimaced as he scooped up random things from the ground; trash, dirt, rocks, dust, anything really, and stashed it into his mouth. Chewing it up, he boosted his defenses with the trashy substances before spewing out a special defense dropping Acid Spray at the Arcanine. Susumu was a bit flattered about the comment, chuckling at Blaze's amused reaction. That TD member...Nick, yeah. Apparently there was some bad blood between them, judging from their time at the ghettos, and the reason for this laughter now. He doubted Blaze would be laughing so hard if it was Syl on Santa's laugh. That would probably be a look of horror then, instead of amusement.
