A nothing that held no promises, no insurance that the sun would come back and purify the earth with it's warming rays, a nothing that also gave imperfections to those that would other-wise be seen as innocent. Such a darkness that when it shadowed the faces of some humanoids in it's embrace, it possessed the power to sickly deform their features, disfigure and twist the exterior facade into a mirror-image of their inner demons. The only blessing thing that the night brought with it were the small speckled dots that painted the sky, which represented the hope of tomorrow and gave light to the other-wise choking abyss of ebony.
The streets were absent of life, thus noise was foreign at the current time. Everybody was either asleep, or home, only a rare few could be caught lingering the damp alley-ways of Verona, especially since this area was famous for being the ghettos. Of course, this excluded the loud ruckus of a single building, one which was being flooded in and out with people of both genders, some entering sober, then leaving in an intoxicated state of mind. Perfect examples of sheep. Herd mentality; stay in groups and you'll be fine, follow the leader of the pack anywhere, easily manipulated but sooner than later someone would notice and 'save' you. But with every herd, a wolf was waiting, grinning impishly for it's time to react, the moment it could take advantage and than a bite out of it's prey. It's playground, it's territory, it's place of selective desire, was no doubt the pub. For the bar had easy targets that wouldn't question what they couldn't comprehend, and with a blurred conscious, they wouldn't second-guess anything.
The wolf in sight was nothing more than a seemingly innocent young man. His age was questionable, yet could be assumed between the high twenty, low thirty range, hair not long length-wise, but was pushed up at the front to portray the common slicked up style that men usually had lately. Clothing wasn't intimidating, just a shirt and jeans, over-all a well-rounded character, who let off the most calming of aura's, the atmosphere around him calculating of situations. If anything, the boy was a sheep, merged in with the crowds in the pub to the point that he was just a name-less face that was soon forgotten. The only alarming trait about him was that in his hand he held a glass, and in that glass was a liquid, and that liquid had no foam, no fizz, it didn't cause his nerves to sting or him to wince, it was clear in substance, only darkened by the glass it was concealed in. Why come to a pub if you had no intentions on drinking, unless you were planning to maintain a clear head for further analyzing those around you. A wolf that was searching for the stray sheep, the prey that wasn't apart of any pack, one which could be swayed and manipulated to his every whim, the black sheep trying to fit in with the white.
Ebony hair wisped down to frame her face, shielding a flushed composure from those around her as the girl sat by herself at the counter, feeble hands holding onto the smooth body of a bottle. Crimson eyes dazed over in a glossy bliss, pupils struggling to focus in on the easiest and closest of objects. "Hm, Kreios, do you think this is pathetic?" The question was hushed, almost non-existent as the girl rose the beverage to her lips, letting the nerve-wrenching liquid flow past her barrier as if drowning such an inquiry from spilling out again. And just like that, it was gone, the need for an answer choked to death and left for dead at the back of her mind. Skyler merely inhaled slowly to calm her numbing throat, straightening her back and tilting her head to stare meaninglessly at the ceiling, letting her raven-locks fall back to expose her face.
It wasn't noticed when a boy set his glass down, the most fluent of strides displayed as his body moved like a stream through-out others, casually making his way to the bar while keeping his previous composure, the soothing atmosphere still present in contrast to his impish nature. He ordered nothing, didn't motion for the tender to fuel his needs, simply his eyes gazed at the red-eyed girl, taking in her appearance and current state of mind. Pupils narrowed in precise observation, head angling ever so slightly to the side for a different perspective, though whichever way he tried to view her, she played the same role in his head, one which he was longing for. Thus, the male walked forward, placing himself to her flank while never hesitating in his step, his determination clear. "I'd like to buy another drink for her, on me," |
[/i] His voice remained as composed as his outer facade was, nodding his head in consent towards the tender. And like that, he provided the first move, check. A wary glimpse to her side presented no threat, the male earning himself a quick sigh to leave her lips, the innocent aura radiating from his being, influencing Skye to resist her defensive nature. His gesture of 'friendship' issued nothing from her, encouraging only a slight raise of an eyebrow in silent inspection of his appearance, then nothing. "Thanks," A simple enough response to him buying her another drink as it was set on the bar in-front of her, which she found herself gripping the neck of and taking a swig without another thought. "An unfamiliar face, what brings you to Cheyenne?"[/i] Words which flowed in one ear and out the other, hm, what was that reason again? "The variety of everything, it's diverse," Lies, but in her mind state it seemed like a good enough reply. "Have you seen a lot of different pokemon so far?"[/i] Damn, another inquiry that caused her to think. "Not really," The males next words struck a nerve, causing Skye to set the bottle on the bar-top, glaring at him curiously. "Would you like to see what I have,"[/i] Smooth as liquefied steel. His words remained calm, matching his friendly expression, he seemed almost like a friend, someone that she could rely on, someone that in her mind she could befriend. "Sure." Without skipping a note, the male grasped her wrist with tender pressure, not wanting to scare her away as he led her through the crowds, towards the exit until they broke away from the crowd. The best way to catch a sheep, was to act like one yourself. "Kreios," Her voice was lost in the roars of the public, irises frantically scanning the ground before she stumbled in her steps to lean down and pull up a small pup in a tight grasp. Mind not registering that what she thought was her growlithe, was actually a shinx. The growlithe watched from under the bar-top, pupils cut almost in half as he watched the male with ill-intent. The canine was keen on observing for his owners safety, and out of instinct he locked in the scent of the brute, storing it in his mind for distant measures. A low growl erupted from the back of his throat, yet that was soon choked back as another human managed to step on his maine-coon like tail, causing his attention to sharply shift away from Skyler and the boy, to his point of sudden pain which caused him to rasp his tongue across the fluff. Not realizing when his companion was being led away by her midnight predator. Which, when his glistening orbs turned back to where she was, the growlithe felt a whimper depart from his muzzle at her sudden disappearance. Suddenly moving to his paws, Kreios frantically searched the crowds, not able to follow her scent due to the mixture of everything hitting him all at once, causing him to feel over-whelmed. The only recognizable scent that the growlithe could pick apart was one of another male, one that the canine found himself sprinting towards, following the trail with desperate howls. The raven-haired boy came into view, and just like that, Kreios found himself clamping down gently on his leg, tugging towards the door while stamping his fore-paws on the ground.[/style][/center][/td][td][atrb=vAlign,top][atrb=style,background-color: #C0C0C0;][STYLE=width: 100px; height: 100px; background-image: url(http://i39.tinypic.com/21297ph.png); border-radius: 5px; border: #282828 solid 10px; margin-top: -10px;] [/style] [STYLE=width: 100px; height: 100px; background-image: url(http://i53.tinypic.com/1g5af8.png); border-radius: 5px; border: #282828 solid 10px; margin-top: 15px;] [/style][STYLE=width: 120px; font-family: verdana; font-size: 10px; line-height: 11px; color: #737678; padding: 0px 0px 10px 0px; text-align: justify;] █ Level: 10 ██Abilities:Flash-Fire. The once bustling streets emptied into lifeless veins, devoid of the metaphorical liquid which flowed their many routes, and as the shade of night shrouded every inch of space under its choking presence, the demons of the night came out to play. The peaceful bushes, prancing in the wind become the hiding spot for such hellspawn, awaiting the unknowing souls which served as their prey like lions to a sleeping wildebeest. The cruel hand of fate would touch upon such souls, and like the natural course of nature itself, ravage all life from the unsuspecting victims of the nocturnal life cycle. The creatures smart enough escaped the smog of darkness, safe within their own homes, save for the insanity found within all minds as their own eyes played trickster, morphing the corners of their vision into a horror movie of sorts. Mere tricks of the tired eye, yet a subtle reminder of the constant danger that they faced.
For in reality, the silver glare of the moonlights blaze was manipulative and cunning in its presence. For those who basqued frequently in its nocturnal rays, they would understand its message clearly; The cycle of day and night did not act in unison, they did not peacefully trade places at the ends of their respective shifts, they strangled each other into submission. The blinding rays of the sun worked only to mask the true nature of society for those too weak and scared to face such facts of their existence, and in the one place which still pumped blood, like the last remaining lifeforce of a dying heart, all would be revealed. The wolves of the night did not come out to play as darkness descended, they merely became more noticeable as the crowds of prey dissipated. Like predators walking through thinning grass, they were always there, merely out of sight for those who did not know where to look.
On such a night, the bustling pub was the watering hole for the animals of the night, as characters from all sorts of social standing and job roles braved the treacherous fog of darkness for whatever reason they could find. Raven strands blockaded azure eyes from the full brutality within that place, a shade blocking such enigmatic hues like natural sunshades. A hunched body silently in the corner of the room, cupping and swirling an amber coloured poison filled glass within his hands, observing, listening, learning. Such animals interested the boy little, yet their actions were as much entertainment as one would see within such a place. Violence, gambling, lust and drugs occured without so much as a second glance from the inhabitants of the sinful parlour; demons in all but appearance.
Eyes narrowed to slits, browsing the room with a scornful gaze at the events which unfolded as the petty minded fools of society drank themselves to a stupor. They would forever remain a mystery to him, and as he hypocritically pressed the edges of the iced glass against his lips, dancing the same dance as those around him, he peered at the lifeless egg which lay before him on the table, a soft sigh escaping his lips at the world the poor creature was being forced into. The lazy Shinx in his company lay upon the table, gently pawing the egg into a light rock like a cat to a ball of yarn. Limbs numbed to the anaesthetic which entered his blood stream, and amidst the sensation of the alcohol fueled atmoshphere, a small sense of peace was found amongst such chaos.
Those who enjoyed the company of chaos however, seldom found the comforting hand of calm for very long, as was evident by the body which slammed into the table which the grim demeanored boy resided at. The thick wood raised on its edge, and reactive hands shot forward to save the vulnerable egg in his safe clutch. Glass shattered, dampening the floor with its toxic contents as the Shinx gracefully hopped through the air to safety. A snarl ran over his lips, corrupted blood within his veins boiling over. The brute grasped the drunkard by the neck, stealing him from his fight partner.
"Hey asshole, you just spilled my drink," he informed the half gone male. Mingling with the rest of the wolves, the boy twirled the man away from the table, throwing the male back at the other fighter and knocking them both back into their fight. "Go bother someone else, prick," he snarled in malice filled tone. A deep sigh escaped his mouth, lowering his gaze to the ground to assess the situation, scanning for his fallen Shinx and instead finding a much larger creature in its place tugging at his leg in desperate panic. Optics traced over the pokemons face, ignoring its agitation temporarily in order to identify where the thing had come from. It was not hard to find his answer. As his hues locked onto the absent ear of the fierce Growlithe, the wound on his arm tingled as recollection of the beast returned to him, and as quickly as it occured, the bad blood between the two vanished.
"Kreios...Where is Skye?" The question was raised, yet returned with rhetoric effect as the Growlithe ushered him towards the door with his actions. Such were familiar to him as a trainer. The Pokémon wanted him to follow, and it was not hard for his mind to piece together the situation at hand. He was a pessimist after all, and with a quick glance around the bar, and a lingering worry for the safety of his Shinx which he was about to abandon, he focused on the canine. "Kreois, calm down! I'm coming," he told the Growlithe sternly, as if naturally mimicking the same attitude which he had seen from its owner. Perhaps such an approach would get through to the panic struck Pokémon. As he made for the door and outside, he could only hope, hope and wonder.
What horrors awaited him in the harsh night?

He'd heed himself not for such pity excuses of masculinity at this point, in all it pricked his mind, tugged at his nerves but with a couple sharp tugs Nathaniel's sapphire optics diverted accordingly. Yet, the raven-haired male inquired something that the canine lacked in knowledge, something he couldn't so simply answer as it was asked, thus issuing Kreios to bare forth his canine fangs in momentary frustration, warding off Nate from such thoughtless interrogation.
Softening his expression back to the average scowl, a short stiff scoff left the growlithe's muzzle unchecked, everything hitting him with full force. Here he was, reaching possibly the lowest ground he had ever been cursed with before, begging to a brute whom offered nothing. Absolutely nothing. Yet he was the best thing here, and Kreios would take that nothing over something that would only harm the situation further. So, as the quad-footed creature weaseled throughout the roaring crowds of those that probably were lost in self-created timezones, he barely checked over his shoulder to insure that he was still ushering such a poisoned being to the purity of night.
Growling underneath his breath as Nate's words of comfort reached his ears, the growlithe felt the temperature rise at the back of his throat, threatening to release as embers at being commanded to calm himself. How dare he tell him what to do when Nate couldn't even take a firm grasp on his own well-being, contradicting and the growlithe could sense it. For why else would someone be at the bar drinking away their sorrows? Though, as they broke apart from the pub and hit the chilled streets of downtown Verona, the canine caught the scent of his owner, and broke off into a sprint snapping his jaws together to signal Nate to follow suit.
- - - - -
The wolf and the black sheep wandered together as one, the prey unaware of the predators intentions as they were masked behind false intentions; a facade. Only shielded further by the darkness of the night, the moon lighting his face just enough so that his smile could be seen by the ebony haired girl, bidding off her fears of the monster that was currently grasping her wrist, continuing to lead her to his destination despite her visible distress wearing in.
"What's your name anyway?" Almost choked back within the barrier of her throat, only to be softly executed when finally departing from such a cage. As soon as the query hit the brisk air the intensity of the situation struck Skyler, she didn't even know him, yet she found herself being ushered down unfamiliar streets farther than her area of comfort normally allowed. "Does it really matter?" |
[/i] A moment of silence where the only sound radiating into the air was the exhales and inhales. "It's Jason,"[/i] His words were smooth, almost as if he didn't have that split second of relapse. And as if a blunt reminder of the reality Skye so desperately tried to forget, the wolf spoke again, signaling the odd black sheep to clench her throat and hitch her breath. "Calm down, I can feel your pulse,"[/i] Said in a monotone fashion, the facade was slowly yet surely wearing thin as the wolf's blood began heating, each second passing only fueling the fire that would soon boil over the top of his restraints. The femme wasn't even aware of her quickened pulse, it had been an automatic response to the situation, a usual reminder of how she felt wary at times, but was forgotten due to her intoxicated mind-set, but yet, being told about it hit a red flag, having her sharply break her arm from his hold. "It's nothing," Mumbled out as she glanced down at her growlith- - shinx. Where had she obtained this? Though the scars scattered across its body hinted to the shinx's owner. It was during that current thought that the wolf took a step forward, stripping the sheep clothing he so casual disguised himself in only to bare forth his impish appearance, one which was only intensified from the nights masking darkness. You know, not many people come down these parts of Verona at night, it's pretty much absent of life, you agree?"[/i] Inquiring simply, the brute tilted his head to the side to hold Skye's gaze with a firm yet hungry glare, earning a chill to bolt through her spine as she read his desires from the all-telling look. "I...guess so. It wouldn't be safe to walk alone," Dropping her crimson optics to the ground, the girl felt her body lean away from the predator, only to have his reply jolt her head back up to sharply stare at his face. "Or with strangers, I thought they told little girls like yourself that it isn't safe to go with strangers, common sense,"[/i] Cooed out, and just like that, the facade was broken. Snapped of it's constraints, nothing holding it back, it's wolven nature finally able to depart in a lashing effect. The girl felt a sudden rush to her side, pressuring her to stumble over her own feet and hiss out in shock as she couldn't hold her own weight added on with the tension she felt at her flank. His arms gripped at her wrists, pushing down along her nerves to urge her hands to let up and become limp as she managed to drop the shinx in her current care. Shoving the sheep against the darkened corner of the wall, the boy pressed his knee firmly between her legs and to the wall he had Skye leaning against, moving her arms to rest at either side of her head. "Shhh, be quiet," Whispering lowly, he leaned forward to gently pinch her jawline with his teeth, a quick nip only to be healed with a brush of his lips. Despite Skye's struggles he barely seemed hindered with such pity excuses of escaping, and merely continued on at his own pace. His lips danced across the nape of her neck before he pressed higher with his leg to encourage Skyler to stand up straighter instead of hunching over. "Come on now, amuse me a little bit," Growling out from the depths of his throat, his head rose to level out his height with hers before he slightly tilted his head and pressed his lips to hers. While the only thing she could do was clamp down at his skin, feeling the metallic taste of copper as she broke the skin. Enraging the predator to the point where he let go of her wrist to only strike her back into submission. The mood of the Growlithe flowed into him empathetically and suddenly, he could feel the intensity of the situation, had he not done so already. The liquid poison within his veins lingered forth, fraying the control over his body to a degree, yet even in the absence of total cognitive mastery, the pessimistic thoughts of a boy wronged by all the cruelty that the world had to offer burned bright. Inside his mind, the web was being weaved, Nathaniel knew what was happening. Skylark was in danger, what else could have disturbed the Growlithe, who shared the same traits as himself into such a frenzy? There were no other possible explanations, and in his mind, he feared the worst.
The flames of his past burned fierce in the back of his mind still. Nathaniel Cross was a mere boy, running constantly from the horrors of his past. He allowed them to control him, shape him and restrict him into any sense of recovery from the demons which plagued him daily, choosing instead to drown them in the numbing world which he created through the liquid poison which rushed his bloodstream. Yet at the same time, that same pain was also his strength, the fury and anger in him gave him advantages above most others, it gave him drive and focus to do what he needed, no matter the cost. After all, did he really have anything else to lose? Those were the thoughts which shot through his mind as she dashed through the night, the cold air burning his lungs with a noticeably chilling sting, yet he continued on regardless, following closely behind the Growlithe.
The egg which he carried was shoved inside his bag for safety, and as his legs carried him through the streets of the familiar night scape, he reached for his pokeballs, summoning forth any help he could from the depths of his mind. "Scythe, scout ahead, see if you can track a dark haired girl," he ordered his Skarmory, who nodded with a determined gaze before powering off into the nights sky. All the while, Nate felt his blood curdling, boiling at the unknown cause of Skye's danger. The feelings of rage he felt were unknown to him, last he checked, he hated that girl, yet here he stood with utter concern for her safety. They were not feelings he wanted to confront, yet as he shot forward, the only thing in his mind was the idea of ripping apart the thing that had caused her danger.
His oceanic emeralds shot to the canine, narrowed with a strong gaze. "Kreois, have you found her yet?!" he asked the Growlithe, a ferocity in his voice like the beast had never seen from him before. Despite their bad blood, the concern within Nate would have been enough to allow the pokemon to trust him, at least for a little while. And as the two shot towards the wolf and the sheep with combined determination, feeding off of each others energy with combined empathy, the Shinx shared in that energy, his fangs clenching down against the wolf's leg, stopping the predator from hurting the next best thing to a master he had, after Nathaniel. The creature could only hope the boy would pull through for the girl and save her, like he had saved him all that time ago. He had trust.
