Back at the Trainer's Lounge, Susumu had a pretty easy TD mission to accomplish. Something about fighting a bunch of trainers, and it didn't really matter if he won or lost. It sounded easy enough to him, but the amount of trainers he had to battle was sort of a pain. He was willing to give it a shot though, hoping for the best as he wandered into one of the vacant rooms. It was a simple design, with the traditional circular pattern in the very center.
The conditions of the room were simple; two on two, double battle. No items other than held ones, and definitely no cheating. He was going to follow them, so he could only hope that his opponent would do the same. He waited nervously for a new trainer to appear, not exactly sure what he was supposed to expect. Probably some newbie, unless there was an older trainer around that had some weaker Pokemon to level up. Both options were fine by him, since he wanted to give his little guys some experience as well.
Speaking of which, it didn't really matter if he kept them in or out of their Pokeballs, did it? With a shrug, he released both Domino and Milo and cracked a grin at them. "Ready for a battle?" He knew these guys were inexperienced, but they seemed to like meeting new Pokemon with these small fights. The two gave each other a knowing look and gulped, as if they were feeling a little nervous before the fight. "Aw, hey. Don't be like that. It'll be fun." Susumu kept trying to encourage them, figuring that they were too young to fully appreciate battle.

When Liz had walked into the trainer's lounge, she was immediately pulled to the front desk. Her Pokémon were quickly scanned and their levels recorded. A key card was thrust into her hand and then she was thrust into a hallway. All this had happened very quickly, leaving a very stunned Liz to try and figure out exactly what she was supposed to do on her own. She glanced at the card in her hand. There was a series of numbers etched into it, along with a bar code. She flipped it over, and saw a room number on the back. It didn't take long to find the matching room- in fact, she only had to look up to see a door with the exact same code listed on a mounted plaque. With only a moments hesitation, she stepped forward and walked through the doors. Another trainer was already waiting for her on the other side. He had already sent out two pokemon- a spinarak and some monkey-like thing. So this was a double battle. She flashed her opponent a grin and said, "Pleased to meet you! I'm Liz, and these are..." she promptly released her own Pokémon. A Budew and Lillipup appeared in front of her. "...my pokemon, Sprout and Roxy. I assume you can guess who's who?" Roxy crouched, shooting the Budew a hostile glare. Don't get in my way! she growled haughtily. The Budew ignored her, instead jumping around and shaking his bud pompom style. Go, team! Go, go team! We are tougher than we seem. Goooo, TEAM!Liz giggled to herself. The girl that entered was a bit younger than what Susumu expected, but it was nice to see a friendly face. Her red hair was a striking feature that he didn't think he'd forget any time soon, nodding as he gave her a friendly smile. "Call me Shamu." He paused, recalling the usual catchphrase of an introduction. "Like the whale." Yes, everyone tended to think of the whale when they heard that nickname of his. He couldn't be sure if he'd remember Liz's name after this, but he'd give it a shot during the battle. 'Liz, Liz, Liz.' He repeated it a few times in his head as she introduced her two Pokemon, vaguely remembering them over all of that repetition.
"I can guess." He chuckled, assuming that the one named 'Sprout' was the Budew. It made sense, unless he was thinking about this wrong entirely. "I guess I'll make the first move then." Taking what Liz said as an offer, he couldn't help but nod and take the initiative. As fun as it was to try and win battles by giving a lot of effort, he liked to start these battles off kind of casually.
From the plan in his head, he wasn't going to make Domino do anything too reckless just yet. Milo was the one that needed to learn how to be assertive, so he wanted the Meditite to make the first strike. "Milo, go for a Fake Out on Sprout. Domino, back'em up with a String Shot." Milo couldn't help but jump at the command, but he could get through this. With nimble feet, he quickly moved his hands around to slap the grass type silly. In case the two Pokemon moved around too much, Domino sprayed the ground with a thin string to try and slow both Pokemon down.

Liz grinned at her opponent's nickname. "Mmm, I like that name. Used to love that whale when I was little." It was an easy name to remember, not very common. Then again, she was horrible with names. It seemed to run in her family, the knack to forget someone's name within minutes of meeting them. And with that last laugh, the battle began.
Milo had run in for a fake out attack, quickly followed by the Spinarak's string shot. "Sprout, use absorb on Milo, quickly! And Roxy, leer on both of them, then a tackle for Spider Man. They have a slight level advantage so I need you two to work as a team, you hear me?"
Here we go, go, go! Sprout cried happily. But before he could use absorb, Milo landed his attack. The Budew suddenly flinched away, cancelling out his own move. Several threads of a sticky material then draped across the floor, grabbing at the Budew.
Roxy smirked maliciously and glared at the two pokemon. Pathetic, she growled quietly as she ran past Sprout. The Lillipup headed directly for Domino, launching herself toward the spider at full speed, though the webs slowed her down considerably.
Liz bit her lip. "Roxy, team work, remember? Don't scorn Sprout, help him!" Despite the harsh words, though, the Budew was on his feet and chanting for his ally as she ran at Domino.

Susumu chuckled at the girl's reaction, not expecting a reaction that seemed so fond of the name. Normally people were confused, or they seemed weirded out at such a thing. Sure, others were chill and even laughed at it. No one really seemed to have good memories of the whale, which amused him a little when Liz seemed to zone out over it. The only thing Susumu didn't get was how Liz seemed to know about the level advantage, but details like that didn't really matter. He shrugged it off and kept a look out for anything unusual with the inexperienced Pokemon, hoping she didn't have any strange attacks on either of them.
With the Fake Out used on the Budew, Milo was left with a nasty pinprick on his left hand. The Meditite winced as he backed off, feeling the effects of poison creeping up on him. <H-Hey! What was that?> He gulped, concerned because he was convinced that the Budew was forced into a flinch. Domino was having some problems as well, dealing with both a Leer and a Tackle as Roxy charged right into him. The Spinarak yelped as his feet were trampled on, quickly scuttling across the floor in an attempt to save himself from the Lilipup's craze. <Yooooooo...I didn't sign up for this, mang.> Domino huffed, not in the mood for this kind of roughhousing.
"Domino, might as well go for a Poison Sting. Milo, take it easy." Susumu gave the Meditite a faint nod, hoping that Milo got the cue. At least Milo was obedient, patiently biding his time in the center of the field. The Meditite looked like an easy target, yet he was rather suspicious to look at. <Yoooo...why am I tripping on these stairs?> Domino piped up, acting as if he was having trouble walking with his eyes swirling around like a whirlpool. He looked drugged up and nuts, that was for sure. He suddenly switched it up to a Scary Face, disregarding what Susumu said in order to give Roxy a Spinarak scare.

Liz grinned at the pokemon before her, feeling a sense of pride as her team battled. As the Meditite jumped back from hi attack, he let out a small shout of shock. The Redheaded trainer cocked her head to the side. Was there something surprising about Fake Out? Some sort of weirdo sensation pokemon got when they used it? For now, it seemed trivial. Her eyes switched to Roxy as the Lillipup trampled over Domino. She stiffled aa giggle and said, "Great! Roxy, use leer again! Low defense is good!" No duh. Roxy nodded, feeling a trill of excitement. Liz was watching her! The dog swiveled around to snarl as an oncoming Domino, who was stumbling around like a drunk. With a sense of deep scorn, she scowled at him… then jumped back with a yelp. The Spinarak's expression suddenly morphed into a wide mouthed, wicked grin. There was a glint in his eye that could rival her leer. What-?! You crazy bug! nearly spitting with rage, her brown and dark blue fur bristled furiously.
Liz had to stifle a laugh. That must have been pretty shocking! "Alright, use absorb of that Spinarak, Sprout!" The Budew bounced forward, beaming cheerfully. Gooooo! he cheered. A flurry of green orbs drifted toward the spider pokemon, with a laughing Budew in its wake.

Low defense was very good, and soon Domino was forced to stare into Roxy's terrible leer. There was absolutely nothing that was friendly about this pup, and the Spinarak couldn't help but wonder if she had a gig on the side as a hustler. She was scary enough, and he didn't particularly want to deal with a Pokemon with eyes like those. They were intense, fierce, and they knew they could get what they wanted from him. "Absorb on a bug type isn't always a good idea." Susumu commented after a while, wondering why Liz wasn't using more attack moves. She was probably going easy on him, which he didn't mind.
She was smart to avoid Milo, but he couldn't help but wonder if she knew what Bide actually did. Domino was the only one to be bothered by the attack, though his dual bug/poison typing gave him all the resistance he needed to endure it. <Hehehe, was that a pinprick? I looooove needles.> Domino started to snicker in the middle of the battle field, staring with an unfocused gaze towards the two foes. Oh, what was he even going to do next? Scare them some more? Poison Sting? Bondage? He couldn't quite decide, but it wasn't even his job to decide. Susumu had it all planned out in his head, for the most part at least.
"Poison Sting on Roxy! And look a little more motivated. A little leer shouldn't bring you down." He couldn't help but comment on it, noticing how freaked out the Spinarak looked after Roxy's glare. <I can showwww you crazy.> Domino inched closer to the Lilipup with hesitant eyes, but he wasn't holding back on his Poison Sting. He just didn't want to get too close to something so furry and dangerous! As the Meditite bided in the background, Domino led the assault by firing off several poisonous stingers at the pooch.

Liz snapped her fingers in frustration. She had clearly forgotten about his type advantage. The Meditite remained where he was, seeming to be taking his time. She was curious- just what was that pokemon doing? Shamu had said something about 'bide.' Aaah, what kind of attack was that? Though her age didn't suggest it, she was a relatively new trainer.
Meanwhile, Domino had other ideas. Roxy's leer had worked, she could see his reluctance to make a move. But, with some urging from his trainer, the Spinarak fired his poisoned stinger.
There was a soft yelp from Roxy as the stinger embedded itself in her shoulder. Dang it, dang it! I'll show you! Clearly, she had a very short temper. Without waiting for a command from Liz, the Lillipup charged forward to tackle the spider. Luckily, that was exactly what Liz had intended for her to do.
"All right, this time use growth, then absorb on that Meditite!" Oh, poor Liz. She would've been better off leaving the monkey... humanoid... thing.... alone. But the Budew obeyed with extreme enthusiasm, quickly gaining energy from the ground. Then he began bouncing around and sending another health-sucking attack towards the psychic/fighting type. Regardless of the Spinarak's scornful words, he still was beaming brightly. Liz didn't think there was anything that could hold back her Budew's cheer.

So far things were looking good, though Susumu couldn't be sure who would be the winner. The other trainer seemed pretty inexperienced, but he wasn't exactly taking this seriously. Sure, he was giving Liz enough respect to make it a challenge, but he didn't want to put too much pressure on his Pokemon. The Lilipup was really getting into the battle, and honestly he wished that Domino and Milo could learn to use some of that passion in their fights. They never did seem all that interested in battles, much to his disappointment. Oh well, they'd be able to like it in time.
Domino was practically trampled by the energetic Lilipup, suffering even more damage due to his lowered defenses. <Show me what, duuuuuude?> He squeaked, looking irritated as his hip throbbed from the pain. The throbbing went away when he shook himself off, but the damage was done. "Poison Sting on Lilipup!" Susumu could focus on Milo later, figuring that Domino needed the most help. The Spinarak fired off a bunch of poisonous stingers at the Lilipup, hoping to give it the love drug known as poison. <Spreading love, brahh!> His voice sounded like a stereotypical surfer dude, except it rose in pitch from nerves.
Milo was left to take a pretty painful hit from the boosted Absorb, giving some health back to the Budew in the process. Even worse, the poison was still working on his body like a hungry parasite. He could only groan as his bide reached its limit, and suddenly the pain he endured was released towards the Budew. Bide was never a pleasant attack, but he was glad that all of this pent up energy was finally free!

Roxy's eyes narrowed in annoyance. Was he some kind of idiot? The comments he made in the middle of battle made her scoff. At first, she had assumed he was joking. Surely no one could be so oblivious? Now she wasn't so sure. Whatever, not important. All that mattered was that she had successfully trampled the spider pokemon.
Unfortunately, that was when he fired several stingers soaked with an extra does of poison. One of the sharp points were embedded into her shoulder, injecting the Spinarak's venom. She gritted her teeth, clamping her jaws around it and yanking the stinger out. Too late, the poison was in her system. She felt a slightly burning in her shoulder where the point had pierced her. The Lillipup ignored it, her ears swiveling towards Liz's voice.
"You alright, Roxy? Use tackle on that spider again!" The puppy was more than happy to oblige. With a fierce growl, she launched herself towards her opponent once again.
Meanwhile, Sprout was having the time of his life. As usual. The swell of energy from the Meditite only increased his bouncing and dancing. The Budew hopped around, singing merrily as he beamed from.... Well, the term 'ear to ear' would be used if he had ears.
Absorbed in his jubilant festivities, it was a huge shock and disappointment when a sudden blast of pure energy knocked him off his stubby feet. Wooooaaaah! he gasped as he tottered back to his feet, seemingly unfazed. That would be so much fun if it didn't hurt! He giggled and turned to Liz for another command.
The trainer had been worried when he was blasted back by the Meditite's energy. But sure enough, he recovered quickly and continued his bouncing. "Try to regain some health with absorb!" she told him. He laughed joyfully as he released another energy-stealing attack.

It looked as if Liz was taking the lead with this battle, as suddenly Roxy went in with a strong tackle on the weakened Spinarak. The hit ended up doing a bit more damage as usual, and soon Domino was a crumpled up mess on the floor. <Whoaaaa...stars above my head. Pretty stars.> He groaned, still conscious but hardly able to move at this point. It was easy to see that he was unable to battle, especially as he hallucinated about the nonexistant stars dancing around his head. Susumu didn't expect the Spinarak to go down so quickly, but he figured Roxy must've made a critical hit to knock him out so easily. "Nice job. We're still not done though." Not that Susumu was cocky, but he still wanted to finish the battle to have some kind of closure. Besides, what if he ended up winning in the end?
Returning Domino safely into his Pokeball, all that was left was for Milo to endure the attacks from the Budew. The poison didn't help his case, and the Budew could only gain health from each Absorb. He probably couldn't knock out that grass type, but he could make sure Milo knocked out something. "Milo, keep your cool. I know you can knock out that Lilipup with a Low Sweep." That was assuming that it could actually hit, but the Lilipup looked weak enough to faint from something super effective. <I-It's hard though.> Milo's ears folded down behind his head, wincing as he was faced with two strong opponents int his battle.
Was there really a point in attacking if he was going to lose? The Meditite could feel as if he was going to lose, and there was nothing he could do to change it. With a nervous stare on the ground, he could feel his confidence quickly drop the moment he lost his battle partner. "Milo, it's ok. Give it a try." Susumu tried sounding a bit more sympathetic, looking at the Meditite with concern. Milo took a deep breath and resigned, giving a weak effort as he tried to sweep the weakened Lilipup off of her feet.

Roxy bared her teeth in a triumphant grin as the Spinarak keeled over in a faint. She shot a glance back at Liz to make sure her trainer had seen. The redhead in question was currently beaming. Her pokemon, it seemed, had taken the lead. Sprout's absorb and poison point ability helped quite a bit. "Great job you two!" she praised. "Roxy, go in for a tackle! Sprout, abosrb again!" Her green eyes observed the Meditite and his trainer as Shamu tried to coax him back into battle. A genuine smile flitted across the trainer's lips. It was always nice to see the bond between a trainer and pokemon.
And that bond seemed to be real, because as the Lillipup leapt forward, the Meditite suddenly lashed out. Roxy's legs were swept out from under her, causing her to take a violent spill and crash to the ground. She let out a surprised yelp as she tumbled head over heels, getting decently bruised up. Ugh... Darn it! Darn it! she growled. Her vision went hazy as she fainted.
One for me, one for you! Both sides equal, the winner's who? Sprout giggled to himself as he bounced forward. Roxy was out of the game... but he was still playing! He was full of stolen energy from his opponent. And the Spinarak had fainted, so he was even fuller with INSPIRATION![/b]

There must've been an inspiration overload in here, because the Budew was simply hopping around like a fire cracker! Susumu thought he would've had an edge as the experienced trainer, but apparently the lack of experience in his own Pokemon made that impossible. Milo was left completely vulnerable to the parasitic orbs that barraged him, helplessly batting a few away with freck arms before fainting. The Meditite's loss was a sign that the battle was over, easing the tension that had once filled the battle field.
Susumu was a bit stunned to see that he was the loser, but he shook it off. Ok, so this was going to put him in a bad mood later on, but there was no legit reason to make Liz feel bad for winning. "Nice try, Milo. We'll get'em next time." He faked a smile as he awkwardly held Milo's Pokeball in his hand, as if he was still not prepared to accept this loss. He had gotten cocky after ending his large losing streak, and now he was getting a reminder that he wasn't as important as he thought he was. Once Milo was returned with a satisfying change in weight in the Pokeball, Susumu slipped the container onto his Pokebelt. "You did a good job. How long have you been a trainer...?" Her name was Liz, right? He could remember her name, but the names of her Pokemon was vanishing from his memory.

Liz had to admit, she was surprised. A nagging thought in the back of her mind had been telling her that surely, logically, the more experienced trainer would win. And yet it was her who came out as the winner. What are the odds? Pretty low ones, in her opinion. Yet somehow it seemed Lady Luck or karma or some sort of fate-controlling entity was on her side, for her pokemon had come out on top.
She had to admit, she felt a warm glow of pride directed at both her and her pokemon.
"Great job, Sprout! I couldn't have asked for more!" she positively beamed in the joy of winning. Then she remembered Susumu and lowered the voltage on her smile. She quickly returned her Budew and clipped his pokeball to a chain around her neck. At her opponent's next comment, the young trainer looked up an shrugged. "Not long, a few months, I'd say. I suppose I was just lucky this time." She laughed, trying to be modest. The last thing she wanted was for someone to think she was the arrogant type. Ugh! People who acted high and mighty seriously ticked her off, and she did not want to join their ranks!
"Thanks for a good battle, I had a lot of fun. And your pokemon had some good moves." She decided not to mention the Spinarak's lack of enthusiasm, lest she injure the trainer's pride.

Normally Susumu would've left the room by now, but simply ditching trainers after having a battle was boring. To be honest, it was getting kind of lonely as well. He wanted to learn a little more about them, or at least be able to talk to people besides his best friend from time to time. His eyebrows raised up at her comment, obviously impressed with how motivated she was in such a short amount of time. "No, don't say that. You did well. Most trainers give up at this point, but keep at it." Susumu gave her a friendly smile, trying to forget about how he lost to a total newbie. Back to learning how to be humble, he supposed.
"If you ever want to have another battle, let me know. I'm up for it whenever." Except wow, that would've been hard without having a way to contact him. Were phone numbers too personal? They sort of were, but he was feeling daring for some reason. Maybe he wanted to see how far Liz could go, and maybe another part of him wanted a rematch. Either way, he scribbled down his number and ripped it out of the tiny pocket notebook. His handwriting was hardly impressive, but it should've been legible. Now if only one could guess if it was a 8 or a 0 in the number, then it would've been great. "Here. Just in case, ya know?" He held out the paper for her to take, hoping that this wasn't too intimidating for the girl. Not like she had to give him her number, right?
Yeah, now he was positive that Liz was her name. He'd have to make a note of it somewhere before he embarrassed himself again. Seriously, people were starting to think he never cared because he kept forgetting names. Speaking of phones and their fancy mechanical ring-a-lings, his phone let out a catchy tune as one of the alarms went off. Stiffening at the interruption, he quickly fumbled for his phone in his pockets and checked the screen. Crap. He had plans to meet another trainer later, and he was going to be late if he didn't hurry up. "A-ah, sorry. I have to go somewhere. But it was nice meeting you, Liz." With a nod, he comically walked backwards as he paced himself towards the door. Once the fun formalities were said and done, he turned around and bolted. Stupid appointments.
