It was Alex and Faye's second official time being within the boundaries of Verona City; this time, Alex had come with the companionship of one ever-analyzing pokemon: Chani the Buizel. As per the pokemon's request, the two had spent the day roaming through the ups and downs of the city, and had ended up wearing the poor water type almost completely to her bones. She had been recalled to her pokeball to rest for several hours while Alex and Faye reconvened here, within the Trainer's Lounge.
Those few hours had passed while the two trainers had simply killed time watching other trainers test their mettle against one another. Then, as if the idea had only just struck him, Alex thrust his arm into the air and exclaimed, "I've got an idea! Let's battle!" Those words carried that certain tone and were accented by a particular gleam in the teen's eyes that Faye should have recognized by this stage in their journey; that is, Alex would not take 'no' for an answer. He sprung from his seat and grabbed Faye by the wrist, dragging her over to a pool large enough for just the two of them to swim comfortably in. Instead of doing just that, Alex plucked a pokeball from his waist and threw it over the pool's center, "Chani, let's get some exercise!" Though the show of her ejection was a spectacular one, it was obvious that the buizel was just then waking up. After a moment of floating half-dazed within the warm water, Chani swam quickly down to the pool's bottom and back up, using the rapid movement to wake herself up. When she emerged, her expression had shifted from one of drowsiness to complete clarity. "Alright, let's see what you can do with Nelly! This will be good practice for both of us!"

[/color]she'd simply mumble as she stumbled after the boy, her feet sometimes scuffing his heels. Momentum carried her further than where Alex stopped, and one foot dipped into the water before Faye was able to catch herself by holding onto the other trainer. Perhaps it could be taken as a sign that she ought to get her feet wet in this battling business. [That one hurt.] Taking the only pokeball clipped to the strap of her bag, Faye tossed it into the pool as well. “Nell, do your best!” she cheered a little hesitantly. The fish Pokémon twisted in tight circles in the water before resurfacing up to his eyes to look for any cues from Faye. He was only met with an expectant grin and an equally encouraging nod. Nelly turned his attention to the Buizel again, remembering his first impression of dislike for the highly inquisitive and analytic Pokémon. Makeup's for human girls, he muttered to himself. He had to get angry! Even if Nelly had never fought before, he wanted to show Faye what he can do! Screwing his eyes shut, the fish let any emotions he could muster take over his body. He'd thrash and squirm, but all that happened was the rapid displacement of water. Alex could only barely hold back a chuckle as Nelly began to flop uselessly about in the water. Chani, on the other hand, quirked her head curiously, >Why're you doing that? Aren't we supposed to be battling?< She asked the Feebas aloud, though she was analyzing Nelly's tactics in detail. He's a silly pokemon. Unless that was the prerequisite for some bigger move? Oh no, what if he's charging up a super attack! A really big attack will hurt! But wait, that can't be the case-- Alex would be more concerned if that were the case... unless... Maybe it's a distraction tactic! Oh no! It's working! Chani thumped herself firmly on the head in an attempt to clear the excess thought from her mind, though she remained to be subconsciously concerned about Nelly's soon-coming "super-attack".
Alex, on the other hand, had a greater understanding of the situation. "Chani! You're faster than Nelly, so swim around him!" On his command, the buizel did just that-- she began swimming rather rapidly in a circle around the poor Feebas, heavily disrupting the water around his ragged-looking form. "Now dive beneath him, then Sonic Boom!"
Chani rapidly halted her torrential whirlpool-like motions with a sudden capsizing; beneath the potentially disoriented feebas, Chani whipped her tail in a quick arc and caused the water about the two to explode rather loudly outward, no doubt causing both Alex and Faye to get sprinkled with water.

[/color]the Olivine native said with a stern pout. Faye had her hands clasped together before her out of concern for her one Pokemon- he was trying so hard! It distressed the girl more than Nelly almost, seeing that Faye could relate to this trying-hard-but-get-nothing type of cycle had been the definition of her life as she knew it. I don't know how! Nelly squeaked a reply as Chani charged. “Swim away, Nell!” she called as the Buizel approached. Unfortunately, the Feebas was so hesitant to come in contact with Chani to escape the ring of water. “Plan B- uh... do that splash thing again! Hit her when she's close!” A panicked Nelly teetered and swayed in the churning water until suddenly, he was flung unceremoniously out of the water's surface. Arcing a short distance, he'd plunk back into the corner of the pool. Body smarting, Nelly submerged into the depths in retreat, unable to hear another round of Faye's aimless encouragement. I can't do it, I can't do it, the phrase looped through the Feebas's mind. He closed his eyes again, this time clamping his tattered fins close to his frame. He wished he could tell Faye to return him to the lab- Nelly himself was more than willing to recommend another starter, or hell- even another sibling that had some more grit that he did. But here he was and it seemed the only way out was to lose and disappoint Faye to the point where, discouraged on all sides, the girl would finally learn that she needed another Pokemon. I don't want to be hurt again! It felt like bile lurched through his system as stress muddled his actions. This is so embarrassing, unable to hold back the queasy feeling, Nelly would empty his stomach of his woes. Instead however, a searing beam came from his mouth to cut through the water towards Chani. ::Feebas:: Nelly [Nell] Species: Feebas, the Fish Pokémon Gender: Male Level: 5 Type: Ability: Swift Swim Attacks: Splash, Dragonbreath Met: Professor Winter's Lab, level 5 Hold Item: Pink Scarf Personality: Introverted, quiet, and curious. Chani and Alex were both caught entirely off guard by Nelly's sudden eruption of what seemed to be a very dangerous attack; being that as it was, Alex didn't have the presence of mind ot command Chani away from the beam. Chani? She was too busy mentally exclaiming to herself, SUPER ATTACK, I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT, I KNE--! Her thought was cut off suddenly by the DragonBreath's connection with her swimming form. The water-type was propelled backward by the force of the attack before finally rolling to the side to prevent being slammed against the pool's far wall. To her surprise, however, the attack didn't seem to hurt all that much. Maybe that was because a peculiar numbness was spreading through all of her furred limbs; in her usual manner, Chani wanted to fiddle with her half-numbed tail.
"What the... Chani! Nice recovery, now use your speed to your advantage again! Quick Attack!" Alex shouted at the buizel from the trainer's box drawn on his end of the pool. Chani moved to obey, but found herself fighting the numbness spread throughout her limbs. She panicked, knowing that she couldn't let Alex down after he had done as she requested and brought her to this wonderful place. Mustering all of her strength, the buizel dove back beneath the water's surface and began rapidly spinning her tail. Though slower than usual due to the lack of sensation, Chani rocketed toward Nelly in an attempt to slam into him.

[/i] came out of Faye's mouth as ”Woahhh! Alright Nelly! Do that again!” She'd hop from her heels to her toes in excitement, beaming now that it seemed Nelly had a handle on this battling thing. The water swished violently over the edge of the pool as the two Pokemon battled, leveling out as there was a pause after Nelly's last attack. It seemed the strange beam- DragonBreath Faye's Pokedex would tell her- slowed Chani down significantly. Nerves still paralyzed Nelly in a way that was not unlike what had overtaken the Buizel. The Feebas too moved numbly, almost out of touch with his physical form as he struggled to comprehend exactly what just happened. Can he do that again? Chani was still swifter however as she darted through the water with incredible agility to appear too suddenly at Nelly's side. Ow! The Feebas was roughly slammed into the scratchy wall of the pool, a couple of bubbles rising to the surface recognizing his surprise. Narrowing his eyes, Nelly recalled that sick and queasy feeling again until his throat bubbled and burned uncomfortably. He'd focus the blast this time by pursing his lips as the force of the attack propelled him slightly backwards. ::Feebas:: Nelly [Nell] Species: Feebas, the Fish Pokémon Gender: Male Level: 5 Type: Ability: Swift Swim Attacks: Splash, Dragonbreath Met: Professor Winter's Lab, level 5 Hold Item: Pink Scarf Personality: Introverted, quiet, and curious. Even as it happened for a second time, Alex was surprised to see the powerful dragon-type attack mustered forth by the rather ragged looking Nelly. This time, however, he was prepared with a command for Chani, "Chani-- Swim below Nelly and dodge it!" Immediately, the small buizel obeyed by twisting her tail rapidly at its ends to propel her downward, and seemingly out of harm's way. However, as Chani began to believe that she was safe, Nelly's scoot backward bobbed his beam of DragonBreath downward and clipped her hind end; Chani's numbed form spiraled backward in mimicry of Nelly's own movement, albeit on the opposite end of the concentrated attack. "Recover and use Quick Attack, one more time!" Alex shouted to his pokemon beneath the water's surface. She was already in the midst of her recovery as the word was being uttered, though Chani took her trainer's command and began to swim rapidly again toward Nelly. The Buizel bobbed about beneath the water's disturbed surface until she finally approached Nelly from above, attempting to slam again into him with great force.

Faye cocked her head at Alex's much more detailed commands, wondering whether the Pokémon were incapable of thinking with some common sense for themselves or something. Nelly seemed to be doing fine without it, just supplemented by her cheering, not that Faye really understood exactly what was going on. “Nell, swim left- no right- no duck now!” Perhaps the Feebas was better of ignoring his trainer's orders. A person like Faye never quite her her left from her right from her... other basic cardinal directions. Spazzing trying to swim in all directions at once, the scrambling Pokémon was slammed down to the pool's depths by Chani's small mass.
Dazedly shaking off the latest blow, Nelly was seeing spots as he tried to tune in Faye's distorted voice. “Keep at it!” the girl's voice traveled down into the depths, dreamy and strange. Nelly was losing the resolve found in his lasted discovered abilities and slipped away from the corner he'd been forced into since the start of the battle. Realigning himself towards the surface of the pool away from the solid borders of the enclosure, Nelly prepared another DragonBreath attack.
