He'd won it for a correct guess in Mystery Picture - third correct guess he'd made, actually. It seemed strange, continuing to complete in contests in the midst of all this, but hell. Boredom was boredom, and it was always nice to get prizes for being right. Pressing the button on the red and white capsule, he released his new Torkoal, whom he'd decided to call Ares, from it's ball. He'd always had a fondness for Fire Pokemon, but he wasn't sure how the turtle would fit in with his team. He was asleep at the moment, and guessing at personalities was kind of hard when all you could see was how something slept.
Now, he was pretty committed to this TD thing, but he was unable fight any longer. Artemis, Eris, and Thanatos had taken quite a beating from the combined attacks of all those he'd fought to keep out of the Power Plant. Though pleased with his winnings, he was quite anxious, and he paced the outside of the Power Plant nervously. Would his Pokemon be alright? They'd never really taken such harsh defeat before. It had been his first time using his Magikarp at all. Still, he'd tried his best. The odds had been against him, he'd fought until he could fight no longer, and now he was stuck. Fighting with a single, level five Pokemon didn't seem like a good idea. He'd lose in seconds. So for now, he was just worrying about his Pokemon and... well, waiting.

Blaze hadn't been too pleased with his encounter with Syl. That piece of crap annoyed him so much. He stalked around the powerplant, trying not to do anything rash. How many other pokemon had been lost? How many have been properly defended? He would have to check up on them, but he did not want to.
And then he saw Joshua. Alone. This hadn't been the boy's post, earlier. Blaze was more than ready to just go over there and give the boy a piece of his mind when he saw the torkoal. That... pokemon looked rather familiar.
"What are you doing here?" he asked instead, in a more curious tone than that of anger. Oh Arceus, that was the pokemon he had given out for his contest, wasn't it? He had regretted it upon sending it off, but the old man hadn't told him what the prize was! He just knew it was an interesting pokemon with interesting moves. This was the last time he was trusting a guy like that. "Did you lose?" he then asked. That was the only reason any of the TD recruits should be here, alone, instead of fighting to keep the others out of this powerplant for as long as possible.

Syl, he could deal with, he'd had no questionable encounters with the red-haired man, but Blaze? He still wasn't sure what to think of the older trainer, with his powerful Pokémon and his strange behavior. Even still, he wasn't going to just ignore him, for he figured this was probably a good idea. He was quiet for a moment, his jaw clenched. He hated to admit defeat. Fucking hated it. All his life, it'd felt like he couldn't do shit right, so failure was a hard thing to choke down. But he couldn't lie, really. There was no denying it. "Yeah," he said, after a moment. The word was toneless, in his attempt to admit no feelings through the admission. "I did."
The odds had been against him, hopelessly against him. There had really been no way he'd have been able to win, in the end. Joshua knew this full well. But he wasn't going to bitch and whine to Blaze about his impossible odds. While Joshua hated defeat, he wasn't exactly a sore loser. When you went down, you went down. No matter whether it was fair or not, it still happened, and making excuses sure as hell didn't change the outcome. He wasn't that sort of person.
That over with, Joshua found himself wondering what Blaze was doing. Sure, he was one of the higher-ups in Team Death, so Josh didn't expect him to be doing the same shit as the grunts, but then what was he doing? Deciding against asking, he simply leaned against the wall and waited. Maybe Blaze would say something else, maybe he wouldn't. Nearby, the Torkoal stirred slightly, revealing that it would likely wake soon. Joshua glanced at it for a moment, then back at Blaze when the turtle resumed it's slumber.

Eventually, they were going to go down. It was just a matter of time, and that was what they were after. He did not look pleased, but tried not to completely terrify the boy. Besides, they were going to work together, in the future.
And so he just shrugged. "Joshua, wasn't it?" he asked the boy. He remembered seeing the boy's profile when he had sent the recruitment letters out. This was not the first time he had seen him either. He also remembered fighting Joshua on route one prior to that. He hadn't been a weak trainer, standing strong even against his Charizard. And then let's not forget about that embarassing meeting in Verona Club. "First off, let's make this clear off the bat. Halloween never happened." After that bout of seriousness, the fire trainer then lightened up, figuring that matter was closed. Things were different, and he'd rather people not know about the night during the party. It hadn't been a good night for him and the alcohol might have clouded his judgement just a little bit, as well.
He then turned to the torkoal and a smile was starting to creep onto his face. "You won the last Mystery Picture, didn't you?" he asked the boy. Though the turtle wasn't his favorite of fire pokemon, he still loved pokemon that were able to control the fires.

Due to the fact that Joshua tended to just go with the flow, he wasn't usually the memorable type, and he was often asked for his name by people he'd encountered before, sometimes on more than one occasion. He didn't talk much, so perhaps he usually forgot to give it out in the first place, but even still. "Blaze, if I remember correctly," he said, after a pause. He was actually almost certain he was right, but it would have felt weird to say nothing, considering he was in a tense mood thanks to having to admit his defeat. Blaze didn't seem happy, but he didn't seem too ticked off, which he hoped was a good sign. He'd never done well taking harsh criticism. It made him wince internally, and if anything, did more harm than good.
He raised a brow, then simply said, "Sorry, what never happened?" It wasn't really a question, but from his expression, it was clear he was hinting at the fact that, as far as he was concerned, it really didn't happen. They'd both been drunk, Joshua probably a lot more so than the other man, and it was best if they just put the embarrassing issue out of mind. Of course, Joshua could never really forget something like that, but he certainly would try not to let it affect him, and he wouldn't mention it to anyone - especially not to Blaze.
He was smiling? Joshua hadn't considered the gesture possible, but it was certainly a welcome change from the expression he'd had before. Another nod was his acknowledgement of this victory, and he glanced at the fire Pokémon as he spoke, "I take it you're fond of Fire Pokémon?" Joshua was, as well. Next to Dark Pokemon, they were his favorite type, and so the Torkoal had been a nice prize. But Blaze had a shiny Charizard, from what he remembered of their first encounter. The Torkoal finally awoke, staring at the two with a bored, somewhat sleepy expression.

The two of them understood each other. It wouldn't do well for anyone to know he hit on a guy while he was drunk in the club. What had he even been thinking? He probably would have made a fool out of himself anyways.
"I am," he answered, watching the fire pokemon wake up. "I consider myself the fire pokemon master of cheyenne, though I am still missing a few for my collection." Though for the most part, it was his own fault as well for not investing the time to train all of his fire types. A lot of them were weak, but getting along decently well. They were all at his parent's research facility, and last he heard they had an area made especially for his fire pokemon.
He did want the torkoal, though. The pokemon from Kanto and Johto were mostly all acquired, along with the rare starters from every region. The pokemon, slightly more common what he should own, though, were the elusive ones. He did not have all the time in the world to go around, searching for fire pokemon. Syl kept him rather busy these days.
The question was, however, would Joshua relinquish the torkoal? "This one is quite interesting. Never have been able to get one for myself. Had I known this was the prize, I would have kept it for myself!" he continued, a bit in a joking tone, but his eyes still alternating between the torkoal and Joshua. "But nevermind that." Blaze's hand went into his coat, rummaging around for something. "How many of these do you need?" he asked, holding up a familiar crystal.

Fire Pokemon master? Did that mean he had a really big ego, or was he truly that dedicated to Fire Pokemon? Joshua had no doubt that he was strong, after all, he'd fought him, hadn't it? Deciding that both could be likely - many people had superiority complexes, it was human nature - he decided to drop the matter from his mind. Point was, Blaze liked the Fire type. Which was rather ironic and amusing, considering his name. "I'm fond of them as well," he said, eying the Torkoal with a little respect. Though he could be cruel at times, Joshua did love his Pokemon. "And also the Dark type..." He trailed off at that, lost in thought. Before the power had gone out, he'd been eying a certain Pokemon sold in shops. Perhaps soon, he'd have raised enough money during his travels to get it. He and his father had argued, and thus that had cut off his funds from his family. He was left only with the large bit of cash he'd started out with, and whatever he'd collected thus far.
Noticing that Blaze seemed quite interested in his newly recieved Pokemon, Joshua's mind began to wonder at the possibilities. If Blaze was a Fire Pokemon trainer, that meant he'd treat the Fire-type with respect, right? He was still thinking when Blaze changed the subject, and his eyes widened in slight surprise. He recovered from the initial shock quickly. "Only three," he said, after a moment. "The rest of my Pokemon are in the PC, and with it down..." He gave a shrug. He wasn't complaining about the lack of PC's, and his tone showed this, he was merely stating fact. He'd had more Pokemon with him when he'd first fought Blaze than he did now. Then again, they'd also been weaker, and so perhaps it wasn't too much of a concern, regardless.
Glancing at the Torkoal, his eyes lingered upon it for a moment before he turned his attention to Blaze, expression serious. "You want it that bad?" he wondered, pausing for a moment. A part of him wanted to keep and train the Fire-type, seeing as he had neither of his favorite types in the team at the moment, but he had to be honest with himself. The Torkoal just didn't seem to fit, in his mind. "It might... be better off with someone that would raise it well," he said, as if choosing his words carefully. "And since you have an obvious fondness for the type, perhaps we could... strike a deal of some sort?"

He had been conned out of a torkoal (it could have been his from the start!) and now a little grunt had it between their grubby fingers. But Joshua had a way of thinking that Blaze enjoyed. He understood the fire trainer's want. First, though, he had to make sure Joshua could fight again and keep defending the plant.
It was as Blaze was looking for some extra max revives that his umbreon had come back from his little recon mission. Moon did not look too happy. Ryuu and Flash were somewhere else in the powerplant, making sure no trainers went past them, and Moon's worried look made Blaze uneasy. His attention was off Joshua and the Torkoal as Moon looked at his trainer with serious eyes. Whatever it was, this was bad.
"Looks like the other side has come up with something cute, so let's just get this over with. How much cash to you want?" asked Blaze, the light mood he had previously having completely disappeared. He also held up three max revives, an additional barganing chip. They did not come cheap. Blaze did not care much for the price, as he was quite loaded, but he still did not like the idea of a recruit trying to screw him off. These Pokémon did not come cheap, but their prices weren't astronomical either.
Moon stood next to his trainer, feeling quite jittery. The Elite and the Hunter were both here, and if his trainer did not make his way out soon... The umbreon glanced at the other male in the room, with a not-sp-sunny disposition. He seemed to want Joshua to just hurry up with whatever they were doing and free his trainer up.

However, Joshua kept his expression neutral, he wasn't the type to openly fawn over things. Plus, the Pokémon looked worried, and was obviously one belonging to Blaze so... was something wrong? Shit. Though he was new to Team Death and all, the idea of losing didn't seem too good right now, at all. Blaze's mood seemed to drain away as well, and he asked for a quick price. Shit. Joshua'd never sold any of his Pokémon before, and so he wasn't aware of how much they usually went for. He wasn't the type that would try to swindle an ally out of a load of cash, but he needed to decide quickly.
Prices from the shops popped into his head. Even for common Pokemon, it was around six thousand at times. He'd never seen a Torkoal before, and even Blaze didn't have one, so that meant it wasn't quite common as muck, right? Plus, they weren't even available in shops, to Joshua's knowledge. All of this was rushing through his head in a matter of a few seconds, and he decided upon the first figure that popped into his mind. "Eight thousand and it's yours, no arguments," he said, already returning the turtle to it's ball. He was clearly on edge himself. As soon as they closed the deal, and he used the items on his Pokemon, he'd be back in on the action, as well. He felt uneasy about how quickly some of his new allies were going down. There were a lot more good guys than bad, and that was never a good thing.

Blaze did not think too hard about it. It seemed like a good price, and he was more than willing to go for it. "Deal," he told Joshua almost immediately. The three revives were handed over first before the trainer fished out some money. Quickly, eight bills of a thousand pokedollars were counted out. Blaze was going a bit faster than he would have liked, but Moon's return had made him lose his cool. "Heal your Pokémon and go back to defending the power plant," he told Joshua, while holding out the cash in one hand, the other one expecting the torkoal's pokeball. He could already hear the sound of people a bit too far in the powerplant. Further than most trainers have managed to get past.
Joshua had to go. Blaze needed to deal with the intruder, but with Ryuu somewhere in the powerplant, he did not feel quite as safe and strong. But Moon would protect him as well. Moon was strong enough, right? "And go guard another Pokémon. Try to keep it hidden for as long as you can," he told Joshua, doing his best to keep a semblance of calm and confidence. He could not look weak. He was going to be the one in charge of all of them and weakness was unacceptable. Especially with Syl probably watching from somewhere. But he was getting a torkoal, so this whole debacle wasn't going to be a total waste, as least.

Accepting the money, Joshua did not hesitate as he deposited the Torkoal's ball into his hand. "I trust you'll take care of him," was all he said as he pocketed the money, but held the Max Revives with the clear intention of using them the very moment this deal was closed.
Blaze was certainly doing a good job of seeming calm, but he was likely as worried as anyone else would be. After all, they were only human, and humans were a bunch of pessimistic, worrying bastards. He dipped his head in a nod when Blaze told him to go and guard another Pokémon. "Will do," he said, in fact already reaching for Eris' Pokeball as he spoke. As soon as Blaze departed, Joshua let all three of his Pokémon out of their balls, wincing ever so slightly at the sight of them crumpled and injured. Was he doing the right thing, throwing them back into the fray like this? But he shook it off and clenched his jaw, steeling himself against the wave of doubt.
He'd made a commitment. And once this boy committed himself to something, he refused to back down. It was perhaps one of his good qualities, but it could be a weakness as well. He didn't know how to just throw in the towel. Things weren't that easy for him. Upon reviving Eris, she blinked slowly at him. <What->
"No time," he cut across insistently, and for once even Eris didn't argue. She could probably see that something was up by the expression on his face. "We have to go back." She hesitated for only a moment, clearly remembering the outcome of their last battle, but she nodded. Artemis also gave no objection, and Thanatos didn't really have the ability to talk. He certainly seemed agreeable enough as he flopped about on the floor. Returning all but Eris, Joshua headed toward the power plant yet again.

It was pocketed, and though Blaze felt a bit like he was violating some kind of sacred rule, he now had nine Pokémon on him and no PC to hide the torkoal away. He didn't want the poor thing to be scarred right off the bat by whatever Moon had seen.
"So, what's going on, out there?" asked Blaze, allowing Moon to clamber into his arms. Whenever Ryuu wasn't around, his other Pokémon were usually a lot more keen on physical contact with their trainer. Unless it was Ashes. She made sure to annoy the dragon as much as she could.
The umbreon let out a worried yelp, trying to warn his trainer to stay away. But Blaze couldn't just leave. His Pokémon were still here and after that encounted with Syl, he was determined to face this challenge head on. "Don't worry. You'll protect me, right? And I'll make sure to protect you as well," he told dark-typed Pokémon. Moon was almost like a forbidden mistress, being the only Pokémon that didn't quite fit his team. But Blaze kept him around because the soft blue glows of light gave him peace and he enjoyed the company of the small Pokémon. Flash's duty was to get rid of water types. His others cemented his position as the fire master of Cheyenne. And Moon was just coming along for the ride.
Blaze slowly walked around the power plant, glancing out at the battles going on once in a while. His hands gripped Moon's slender body, his fur cool where the blue rings glowed. It obviously wasn't one of these small-fries that ganged up on the recruits to attempt a rescue. There was someone else in here, and Blaze hoped he wouldn't encounter whoever it was.

A loud, violent roar literally shook the Power Plant for several seconds once Hunter released Charizard from his sphere. He was already sick of searching around for Syl and Blaze, so he assumed that a 'louder', more appropriate method was necessary. The ice cold man snickered as his beast of a Pokémon raged against the walls, only given the order to 'raise hell', and he did so with a fury.
The winged beast stretched open his wings, and let out another roar as it rampaged through the hallways. Finally, the beast came eye to eye with a strange sight. A human with an Umbreon. But this guy smelled strange. Something about him reeked of the scent of fire. A bad, charred scent that made him want to sneeze.
"So. This is where you were hiding." Hunter had slowly tracked his Charizard's position from a safe distance before the beast stopped at the first human he saw. Not a Pokemorph, sadly, but a human that had a sense of power about him.
<You're lucky. If you had the bad scent of morph on your bones, I would have killed your trainer on sight.> The Charizard grumbled to the Umbreon, only turning to face his trainer with a curious look. Was this human important in someway to Hunter?
"Blaze." Hunter snickered at the sight of the so called 'Fire Pokémon Master'. What a stupid title. Only those that felt that they didn't have any balls would go so far as to take on the league. It was only child's play. What mere 13 year olds did as a hobby.

Moon flinched at the sound, but tried to stay strong. That was not Ryuuku. That was another Charizard. The trainer had actually kept count on the various fire lizards in the region, and the sight of the normal-colored creature sent shivers down his spine. The Hunter. What was he doing in here? Were there morphs in Team Death?
Moon leaped out of his trainer's arms, ready to defend him against the large Pokémon. The umbreon never had any luck against Ryuuku and he did not think this battle would be any different, but his pride was at stake! He would do his best against this winged creature. He was still terrified, with every bone in his body quivering.
"What do you want?" Blaze asked the hunter, trying to hide his own fear. This Charizard was even stronger than his own, which irritated him to no end. But he was not a pokemorph. The hunter should not be here. "Why aren't you hunting for the mutants instead of wasting your time here?" He did not falter, keeping his voice steady. He did not need another loss after that previous battle against Ava, but something told him that the Hunter was not going to let him go. The look the other trainer gave him wasn't one Blaze enjoyed being under. He just hoped Ryuuku and Flash were still safe and that Moon would forgive whatever was to come.

"I have sensed some mutants here, actually. Disgusting, vile creatures. One is even on your side." He grunted, acknowledging that Blaze's question had some merit in it. At least Blaze was a man that didn't make pointless statements; something he never really liked in another certain TD Admin.
"Let's just say that this power outage is quite...inconvenient when it comes to stealing powers. I could always bloody my hands taking them out with gloves, but...that's not my thing." His eyes narrowed as he raised a dangerous, mechanical attachment to his arm, pointing it at Blaze as if to prove his point. This was his latest model, the one thing that could purify a Pokemorph so they could wander around as humans once again.
"I don't like being inconvenienced. Prepare yourself." He turned to his Charizard, a cold stare piercing right into his own Pokemon's eyes. The Charizard only gave time for a nod before he flung himself at Blaze and his Umbreon, though the Pokemon was much closer to him, and he let out a harsh Heat Wave at the pair.

One of them was a morph? He couldn't think of who it might be off the top of his head. Before he could pinpoint anyone, the battle had started. "Brace yourself! Dark Pulse!"
Blaze watched the heat wave approach, as if in slow motion. Moon countered it with a Dark Pulse, which managed to slow it down just a bit as they two waves connected. The darkened air disintegrated, as if burned by the heat wave. That left Moon vulnerable for the attack and Blaze placed his arms in front of his face as the attack approached him as well. Between his cover, the trainer saw his beautiful umbreon crumble onto the ground, barely mewling out in pain. He was barely still conscious and shakily got up again. "Moon! Stop it!" Blaze ordered. This was not worth it. He did not want the Pokémon to get any more hurt than that. The attack had done nothing. The Umbreon did not listen to him and simply used a confuse ray, hoping that it would be effective.
The heat wave was scorching hot and every bit of exposed skin felt on fire. The insulating clothe Blaze wore managed to shield most of the attack, but the skin on his face was probably beet red from the attack. He quickly went for Moon's pokeball, trying to return the pokemon, but not only did the device refuse to work, the one time he did manage to send out a beam of red light, his stubborn Pokémon fought against it to foolishly continue this battle.

"...?" Hunter's expression only slightly changed when he saw the Umbreon still standing, though only just barely. It was a durable species, from his past encounters with them. A rare Pokemon, that happened to be very popular with trainers. Absolute tanks, even if their physical strength sucked. His suspicions about a status attack were confirmed when he saw the mysterious flash of Confuse Ray strike his Charizard.
Only a questioning glance towards the beast was the only acknowledgment of the attack, at least visibly. His Pokemon's eyes became white with confusion; pupils dilated as he roared with absolute rage. Opening his gaping mouth, the Charizard unleashed a Flamethrower straight up into the air, and like a fountain it descended upon him.
The blast was so strong that several of the flames rolled across the floor, and Hunter had to release Rhyperior in order to protect himself from the flames. The rock type raised his arms to shield himself and his trainer from arm, not phased in the slightest from the attack.

He wanted Moon to just return and stay safe in his pokeball, but the umbreon refused to back down, so Blaze was going to support his Pokémon until the end. "Sand Attack, Dark Pulse," he said, his voice starting to waver a bit. He hated having to send his Pokémon do their deaths, but this was karma. Eventually his dealings with Team Death was going to catch up to him.
Sand was kicked into the air, toward the large Charizard, before Moon went in and unleashed everything he could on a dark pulse. Fear was in the pokemon's eyes, but it was also full of determination. He knew that he was going to lose, but damn it he wanted to stay alive for as long as he could. But at least his confuse ray seemed to have worked. If he was lucky, the large beast would be too confused to actually attack back. Ha. As if that would ever happen.
Moon hated Charizards so much.

<When I figure out what the hell is going on, someone is going to die!> The Charizard roared, a threat that seemed like something he would actually act upon. If not kill, then at least shred. Very badly. The giant beast's body looked as if a Sand Attack was impossible to reach, but he happened to get a bit too close to the Umbreon while he was trying to attack it.
Sand in his eyes, he recoiled, only half attempting to blink it away. He was aware of the vulnerable position he was in, but cockiness made him unafraid. He could take anything. In fact, he hadn't lost a battle since he evolved into a Charizard. Being the strongest Pokemon on Hunter's team, this was only natural.
"Take the hit." Hunter commanded, seeing that there was no avoiding it anyways. The Dark Pulse might have looked strong, but against his beastly belly, it almost looked as if it was going to bounce off of him. The Confused Charizard scoffed, before acting on his own again. He always had a general idea of what Hunter wanted, and right now, the best thing to do was attack at random.
His wings raised upwards before swiftly hacking down at the air, sending two unpredictable blades of air in random directions. One swirled right around Blaze's figure, while the other looked as if it was heading for Moon's side, due to lowered accuracy, but even a small graze would've been terrifying in this situation.

The other one managed to hit its target well, hitting the umbreon head first. The pokemon tried to resist the attack and buffer the damage a bit, but it was no use. Moon was sent flying back toward his trainer. The dark pokemon's body was limp and bleeding, his fur completely black. The normally blue rings shone no more, becoming muddled in the rest of the fur.
Blaze could only stare at his precious Moon, his whole world shrinking until he could see only the body of the umbreon. Hunter was not there anymore, nor was the Charizard. They did not matter. Nothing mattered. The normally stoic man knelt down next to his pokemon and picked him up, cradling the body in his arms. "Are you done now?" he asked the Hunter. He had no intentions in sending out any other pokemon to end up like Moon.
