Hurin felt disgusted with himself as he left the lab. It only took him a few minutes to get the the large patch of grass, but it still made him feel like an idiot that he didn't notice this place before or even more, didn't think anything of it. How was he supposed to know he could get a pokemon here instead?
Nero crawled along behind him, enjoying the fact taht he hadn't been shut away inside the pokeball again. Hurin didn't seem to think the pokeball was important, so neither would Nero, even when it meant walking on land instead of water or ice like he was used to.
"There's supposed to be a Ranger or something out here right?" He asked, presumably talking to Nero. The grass was short where he was standing, but it got longer as he looked towards the middle area of the patch. It was hard to tell the size of the patch. It was no small area as the name had implied. "So where's this Ranger guy? I'm eager to get out of here!"

Little did this trainer-to-be know that he was being hunted.
Low on it's limbs, a medium sized Pokémon waited for the boy to settle down. The Pokémon stretched out a bit, trying to get a better angle on the male. It had been waiting and watching the boy ever since he had appeared here, which you could imagine, was quite a while.
While Hurin was waiting around the Pokémon saw it's chance to finally attack. With a quick movement, a Linoone launched itself from the grass, a crazed look on it's striped face. A playful scream came out of his mouth.
"Stop it!" a voice cried, stern and yes, angry.
A Ranger had appeared from the distance, waving his arms wildly to signal to the oblivious Hurin. Whether or not the Linoone's surprise attack worked, the ranger found the Linoone playfully running back to him.
The Ranger took a look at the male, worried that his Linoone did far worst than he had intentionally thought. "Hey, I'm sorry if my Linoone here scratched you or anything." He murmured, approaching Hurin with an aplogetic look on his face. "He can get a little into the whole hunting thing." he said, shooting a stern look at the Pokémon. "Anyhoo. May I help you?" he asked, rebounding fairly quickly from the whole, oh my linoone attacked you thing.

If either Hurin or Nero had any knowledge that the Linoone was attacking, only Hurin gave no sign of it. Nero only showed he had any idea that something was going on when the Ranger shouted for a cease. Poor Nero jumped a few inches into the air at the sound of the Rangers voice. He sounded like Hurin had when he began climbing to his shoulder.
Maybe on the inside, Hurin was startled. Maybe not. Anyway, he turned when the Ranger spoke. "I was told at the lab that you give people a random pokemon here to start." He said crisply. The Ranger obviously didn't know who he was either. This who thing was starting to hurt his ego a bit. "I'm a coordinator looking for a pokemon that shows decent talent onstage. Nothing at the lab struck my fancy."
While Hurin went on and on to the Ranger, Nero spotted a blade of grass that looked like it needed to be pounced on. He too the moment to pretend he was more dog than fish and tried to pounce on the blade of grass that was so clearly asking for it. Sadly...he missed.

A little startled at Hurin’s sudden revelation in his personality, the Ranger immediately started talking in a more formal manner. In fact, he even caught himself standing up a little straighter before forcing himself to have a more relaxed look. He was a little annoyed at Hurin’s comment, but refused to say anything about it. It wasn’t his job, or his place to leave comments to trainers or coordinators.
”The Pokemon at the Lab are pretty decent. By coming here, you might find something a lot less rare, and a lot less interesting. But if you accept the risks, you’ll have to accept the Pokemon you receive.” He tossed the guy the Starter Pack that was attached to his belt, it was a light little thing, so he could carry two or three at a time.
”Linoone.” He whistled for the Pokemon’s attention, who obediently sat in front of his trainer’s two legs, looking up with a focused face. There was nothing in the world that could prevent his attention from swaying from his owners commands. He simply loved to please him…Except when he was in a more playful mood. But he never meant any harm by it. Without a word, the two went into the grass, the Linoone understanding immediately the task in hand, and rushed off a couple of steps ahead of his trainer. They were in there for about 10 minutes before emerging. The Ranger handed the Pokeball to Hurin, tipped his hat, and was on his way after that.

(o.0 didn't see that coming. This'll be fun!) Hurin took the pokeball without another word. He didn't really want to know what it was, since there was little he could do about it now. "Nero, let go." He said simply, turning on his heel and walking back out of the tall grass, tossing the new pokemon in his hand as he went.
The Seel followed at a less sure pace. His superior sense of smell told him there was something he wouldn't like about the pokemon in that ball. Whatever it was had a strong scent to it...
(Thread finished.)
