The day was dark, with heavy gray clouds hanging low on the horizon and promising rain. A stiff breeze had sprung up within the last few hours, and now whipped the dark trees around the large lab building. It was, in short, not an ideal day for beginning a journey. However this did not stop Augustus "August" Collins from smiling radiantly as he lugged his pack up to the front door. Knocking heavily while trying to remain upright in the wind, he was in a terrific mood.
He was getting his first Pokémon and starting his journey. Naturally his mind was already clouded over with the fog of imagination as he thought above how good he'd be, and how quickly he'd breeze through each gym, and how he'd be the best ever, never mind all the others out training. Ah, the bliss of innocence and youth. August would soon learn the hardships of being a trainer.
But for now he was very happy and eager to get his first Pokémon. He'd memorized the list of available pokemon, spent countless hours pouring over stats, info, and pictures, and had agonized over which one would be his best choice for a starter. He was pretty sure he knew what he wanted, but he'd wait and see what happened here, at the Lab.
"Hello?" he called as he knocked, fighting a gust of wind. He couldn't just barge in, that would certainly be rude. So he knocked harder, in case the wind was drowning out his noise.

Mr. Voole was in the nursery tending to the freshly hatched baby wurmple, it was quiet in the room except for the faint howling of the wind outside of the room. Luckily there were no windows in the nursery, but the lab assistant had seen the foreboding clouds hanging over the lab, the darkness of the cloud promising a later downpour.
He sighed, he felt bad for any trainer out in this. Terrible weather, especially for those Hoppips, they lost their home and bearings so easily with a strong gust of wind. Speaking of pokemon, he should probably bring the fire Pokémon inside that were in the corral. Settling the rest of the wurmples down, he headed out of the nearly soundproof room, only to be met with a loud knocking sound.
It took a moment for Mr. Voole to realize a trainer was at the door. My goodness! How long could've they have been there? Pity and guilt overwhelmed him as he rushed for the door, heaving it open. He smiled at the windblown trainer. "Terribly sorry about the wait. Here, come, come on in!" he said, ushering the young lad in quickly.
Shutting the door with a bang, he turned to the trainer. "Hello there! Welcome to the Lab! I'm Mr. Voole. I assume you are here to begin your journey? Do you need the list of Pokémon or do you already have one in mind?" he said in a rush, adding a smile at the end. He didn't want to intimidate the trainer too much.

((Any suggestions for getting my sig code to work? I just can't figure it out. ))
August entered the building a little stunned. He sort of haphazardly forgave the man ("S'ok, I just got here.") while also trying to look at everything at once. Every item he could see reeked of pokemon, which naturally thrilled him. The lab was like some sort of wonderland that he'd gained admittance to quite suddenly. In fact he had to force himself to focus on the man's words. He nodded vigorously as he comprehended what he was being asked.
"Yeah, I'm starting my journey. I think I already know which pokemon I want." he said, and then hesitated to make sure. "I'd like a mudkip, if you have one." he asked, mind made up. The small pokemon were amazingly versatile in battle, and had few weaknesses once they evolved to be half water type and half ground type. Naturally his would be the strongest mudkip, and would no doubt train extremely fast and be all-powerful. Yes, August had his whole journey planned out already. A month, maybe six weeks, and he could be the next pokemon champion. His parents, who had laughed as such plans, would be proven wrong, no doubt. Dreamy-eyed with this fantasy, he grinned to himself and waited to see if they had any mudkips.

(( I had trouble with that too. {url}put the adress here}Name{/url} The you simple replace the {'s with ['s ^^))
The Lab assistant grinned at the strapping young lad's awe at the lab, he could tell at the way he couldn't stop lookinf around him. As he nodded eagerly, it only made Mr. Voole just as excited as the boy. He could remember when he started his journey with his trusty piplup. Water types, he thought were awesome. So at the male's words, his excitment blasted through the celing. Only mentally of course, on the outisde he was perfectly calm, a wide smile the only thing giving him away.
"I'd like a mudkip, if you have one."
The lab assistant scoffed, "Have one? We just got a new litter! You came at just the right time." he said, before turning and strolling away, his white lab coat fluttering as he quickly walked to the storage room. Within moments, he returned with two pokeballs. One orb was in each hand and as Mr. Voole stepped up to the trainer he smiled gently.
"Right is male, left is female." he said. "Choose wisely." he added in a softer whisper.

((Of course! I forgot about the brackets and the tag being different here. Thanks. ^^ ))
August eyed those pokeballs as if they were made of solid gold. He might have gone on staring until the end of time if the assistant hadn't spoken. Choose wisely? Like it was even a choice? He instantly went for the male, his hand shooting out to grab. But at the last second he hesitated, and then let his arm drop. "Er, I'd like the male, please." he said, rather embarrassed that his manners had almost deserted him. His parents would have been ashamed if he'd just grabbed. So he rocked on his heels and tried to be patient.

Assistant nodded, passing over the correct pokeball. "Here you are, and here is a starter pack," Slung over his shoulder was a simple cloth pack stuffed to the seams with all the items a new trainer could ever want. Sheepishly he handed it to August. "Here's your pokemon, I hope you treat it right," He paused to smile again, running his thin fingers through his messy hair. --- You've received: Level: 5 Gender: Male Attacks: Tackle, Growl, Ice Ball You've also received a starter pack, which includes the following items: Pokéballs x6 Healing Potions x2 Pokédoll x1 Pokédex x1 Room Key for two nights at the Poké Center Ribbon Case

August held the pokeball tightly. He took the starter pack absently, and sort of shoved it into his pack without looking at at. His attention was rivetted on the pokeball. He might have been handed a shoe, or a lobster, and he would have stuffed it into his pack all the same. He grinned even wider, and shouldered his pack. He did manage to break his attention away long enough to formulate some words. "Oh, I will! I will! Thank you very much!" he said, and rushed out the door with a wave, pokeball still tightly clutched. He'd gotten a pokemon, and now he was an official trainer! Ignoring the rain splattering the ground, he rushed down the path, eager to reach the wilds of Route 1.
