The sun didn't show through the blinds that morning. In fact, the sun didn't shine at all through the thick grey clouds that covered the sky. Not exactly the most opportune day to choose to start over again. The occupant of the room had half a mind to pull the covers over his head and just wait for another day. But he couldn't. He'd been doing just that for the past week and it wasn't getting him very far. Plus; he was tired of renting the basement of these complete and total strangers for him to sleep in. As if to complicate the morning, the alarm clock went off. It's loud and irritating buzzing noise pushed the man to the limit and before it could shut itself off, the alarm clock was against the opposite wall with a new dent in the side. "Fine God, you want me up that bad? You got what you wanted, as usual. I'm up." He muttered at the ceiling before pulling the thin comforter off and standig. Here, one could see his full height of 5 feet, 11 inches. Too tall for what he considered to be normal. He hated looking down, literally, on other people. Within a few minutes, he was fulled dressed. An unironed white button up and a pair of black pants that fit snuggly around his thighs and waist. Heeled black boots and a taxi cabbers hat finished it. He wore the same clothes day after day like most travelers. In his bag was a set of much more formal wear for contests. That was it. He looked ready to go. Before he left the basement, he glanced at the sky. It was dark, and it looked like it might choose to rain. There was a grey jacket hanging in the closet and though it looked like it had last been worn maybe 5 years ago, it still looked like it could at least offer an extra layer to ward off a chill. It didn't belong to him, but it also looked like the owners wouldn't miss it. ~~~ The owners of the basement, the jacket, and the rest of the house that he had clearly invaded were more than happy to see him go. In fact as he left, the husband had the audacity to aim a pokeball at his shoulder. It was well aimed too as the pokeball hit and fell to the ground. It opened to reveal a small, white pokemon he knew to be called Seel. The pokeball had landed a ways away near the street. "Thanks for the pokemon, idiot!" He called as he left the house, a very confused Seel following what it took to be his new master. <Are you my new master?> It asked as the boy made his way towards the pokemon lab. Why were those things always on top of hills? "If you want me to be. Don't expect too much though. I choose my pokemon for their beauty. Something you don't seem to be in excess of." He replied curtly, not even looking at the sea lion pokemon. <I dunno who said I wasn't pretty besides you.> It replied, trying and failing to make itself sound like it knew what it was talking about. <I do like to try hard though...if that helps any...> "If you're willing to try hard, then you can stay. I'd expect that anyway." The trainer said, turning for the first time to face the unexpected addition to his team. "You'd need a name then too. Contest pokemon always need a name for the audience to remember them by." The Seel cocked his head. <While you're thinking of a name for me, could I know yours?> The trainer seemed almost insulted that the creature didn't know his name. He was famous in other regions and the couple who rented their house to him certainly knew who he was- minus the horrible attitude he'd had. "I'm Hurin Ton Fay. Remember it." He paused for another second. "You're Nero. Learn to love it." With that, he turned to walk the remaining way to the lab, expecting Nero to follow obediently. He wasted no time in knocking when he got to the front door. The doors to lbs were often unlocked as aides often ended up running through the doors without knocking either. The door swung wide as Hurin took a single step in. "Hello there!" He called. Nero followed slowly, hiding behind one of Hurins legs. "Anyone here?"

Hurin's voice echoed throughout the empty halls, repeating itself faintly until the clattering sound broke the silence, a door was flung open and loud cries could be heard from a room not to far from the young man, and with a few seconds a Chimchar and a Turtwig could be seen rolling down upon the floor heading into the direction of Hurin.
"Chimchar, Turtwig, stop that fighting!" A young Pokémon Assistant shouted out of the top of his lungs. His peircing amber gaze smoldering upon the pokemon. This was not how trained pokemon should act, especiall when a trainer was present. After hearing the strong command, the fighting Pokémon quickly come to a halt, and the small fire monkey quickly scampered over to Aaron, the lab assistant, clinging to his leg and glaring at the Turwig.
"Anymore trouble and you two are both going to be heading back to the crib. Got it?" he said, in a softer, but still stern tone. The two pokemon now meek, nodded in understanding.
"I'm sorry about that, I don't know what gotten into them today," The Assistant explained walking over to Hurin with a friendly smile. "So. I'm assuming you are here for a pokemon?" he asked, before noticing the small Seel behind the trainer. "Oh! A Seel, fairly uncommon, but then again it is winter. I'm surprised this beauty isn't in the water. Must've been a difficult catch." he commented, before glancing up again.
"Oh. Where are my manners? I'm Aaron. Welcome to the lab!" he said, a smile on his face. "The Starter pokemon can be found on that list over there." he said gesturing to a small table.

"Accually, the little guys pokeball was thrown at me when I was leaving a house this morning." There was no reason to specify that he'd been renting their basement for a less than decent price. "I wasn't the one who caught him."
Two minutes was all it took for Hurin to decide on the pokemon he wanted. "Says here at the bottom that I can have a random pokemon if I'm not too interested in what's currently offered." He said while trying to keep the Seel from crawling up his leg and onto his shoulder. He grunted at first and then quickly said "You're too big and heavy to sit on my shoulder. Just stay on the ground." It was quick and sharp and the Seel obeyed all too quickly.
His hat had slipped from his head while he was talking. Hurin moved to pick it up while he was awaiting the assistants response. "I believe I'll go ahead and take the random pokemon, since I would have rather had a Growlithe or a Skarmory." He heard himself talking. Why wasn't he feeling at stuck up as usual? It must ahve been the cold weather. He found it strange that he didn't care at all that this man didn't know who he was.

Aaron's eyes rested on the trainer for a moment, a clearly quizzical expression on his face. He was attempting to gauge if the trainer was joking or dead serious. A sweatdrop appeared on his face as he chuckled awkwardly, "Well, I suppose that's one way to obtain a pokemon!" he commented, before blinking his orbs a few times as he turned away while the trainer glanced at the poster.
Aaron smiled and nodded, "That's correct!" Aaron in particular loved the random pokemon, they were so out of the ordinary, he found them quite interesting! Sadly he was not able to work at the small patch of grass. The assistant chuckled lightly at the Seel who was attempting to climb up the man's shoulder. "It seems fond of you for sure." he said with a smile, tossing the pokemon a small treat.
"Okay! Well, if you want a random pokemon you should head over to the small patch of grass." he said, pointing out the winder towards a ranger's booth. "They'll catch the first pokemon they find and that will become your first pokemon." he said with a smile.

Contrary to his character, Hurin looked up with a glare or look of suprise. "Where is this patch of grass then?" He asked slowly, not trying to be rude, but genuinely curious. "This place looked like the only place around here to get a pokemon, but here you're telling me quite the opposite."
Nero happily caught the treat on his nose, balanced it for a second then gobbled it up. It seemed all to happy to receive praise, even if it wasn't from his current trainer. Like a child receiving praise from a neighbor instead of a mother. It meant the same thing to him. He didn't try to climb to Hurin's shoulder again, however. Sharp words were enough to dissuade him from doing anything like that again. Instead he left Hurin alone and went to beg for more treats. Clapping his fins and doing a poor balancing act on his tail and front paws, he asked in all but words for another.

Aaron stared at the trainer for a moment before smiling, he relized that Hurin must be new to the area. "You don't know about the patch of grass?" he asked again, just to make sure he understood the question. "This is the place to get a professonially bred pokemon, where you know what you want and you know what you'll get." he said, nodding as he spoke.
The assistant was taking his explaining quite seriously and continued speaking. "The Wild Patch of Grass is where wild Pokémon are shipped in and they reside there, living like they would in the wild." he said, wrinkling his nose slightly at the idea of wild Pokémon. "Rangers will catch the first Pokémon they see for trainers who want a random Pokémon." he said, before walking over to a window. Aaron glanced out and after motioning Hurin over pointed at a thick blob of grass with a information booth besides it. "That would be the Wild Patch of Grass." he said.
He chuckled at the antics of the pokemon and after smiling at it, tossed one more treat at it. "That's the last one though okay?" he said, in a teasing tone. "That's going to grow up to be a clever pokemon one day." Aaron told the trainer, before smiling and heading off. "Good Luck!" he called behind him.
