+Where're we goin'?+ asked a tiny, cute little voice.
"To get a Pokemon," answered another voice, this one more quiet than small, and more boyish than the squeakiness of the first voice.
+Oh. Where?+ First voice again, sounding curious.
"Not far." Second voice, the tone unreadable and somewhat flat.
Silence, then.
There was a boy, making his way around the Pokémon Lab, pushing through tall grass as he got farther back. He was short, skinny, had an adorable and rosy face, big eyes of an odd purple color, and blue hair down to his shoulders. His feet were bare, his shirt pastel-pink and huge but with a high neck and the bottom tucked into his pants (this kept the shirt from falling right off of him, as it undoubtedly would have done if not especially for that flared, high neck), knee-length blue jeans that flared out like bell-bottoms.
Floating along at his side was a Mespirit.
+... Why d'we need a Pokémon? I'm here,+ it said, sounding a little upset, possibly rejected. Its tiny hands fidgeted, and then it bit down gently on its knuckles, gnawing. Its orange eyes watched its companion expectantly and hopefully. Needy. Already attached. They'd not known each other long at all and already this creature was clingy.
The blue-haired boy looked over at his Pokemon, and though his expression was still mild and unreadable, there was a flash of guilt. "Need a starter," he said. "I'll still have you. Don't worry, Doros. Just getting another friend. Right?"
That brightened Doros' expression considerably. The creature's two tails perked, and his four "ears" -- or horns, or dreadlocks, or whatever they were -- flapped as he did a flip in the air, giggling. +Yay! I like friends, Jonas.+
"Me too," agreed Jonas, possibly only to keep the Mespirit happy, though the ghost of a smile played at his lips. "C'mon, let's look around."
He kept moving, tall grass seeming to swallow him whole as it got taller and thicker, his thoughts keeping him busy as he looked for Pokemon, or at least for someone who might help him catch one, as Doros was probably not quite battle-ready. He'd met the Mespirit further up the road, where Doros had been wandering around helplessly, right in Jonas' way. He'd greeted the creature cautiously, just amazed that he'd come across a Legendary Pokemon, and Doros had clung to him just like that, whined about how he was lost and alone and "+please please please let me stay with you, because you seem nice so please!+"
That had been that, and here they were, Jonas with his first Pokemon before he'd been given one officially, and Doros glad for the company -- and the name, because he had not had one when he'd come across the boy, his new trainer. He was very young, had been separated from his parents. That's why he'd been alone, and that's why he'd been so quick to cuddle up with Jonas.
Either way, it was good for them both, so no complaints, even if it was quite the bizarre occurrence.
'Maybe I'm crazy to want another Pokemon after getting a Mespirit just by luck,' Jonas mused, but in truth, that wasn't so. Doros was too young and clumsy to battle well, and he wanted to be a trainer, so needed something a bit more able, at least until he could train up the Mespirit a bit. No doubt he'd be plenty formidable once he learned how to use his power.
