I should have come yesterday. That was Ethan's only thought. He was walking around the grass where it was highest, just waiting. It was raining of course. He could never start a journey on a bright sunshiny day. That was yesterday. Today it was raining. Ethan silently cursed weathermen and continued looking.
At least it would fit the mood for later. He had chosen Cheyenne for only one reason. Team Death was recruiting. The sound of their name sent chills down his spine and made a small smile appear on his face. That was where he would be recognized. Maybe somebody would actually be proud to have him as a member. Ethan stopped his train of thought, knowing that was a stretch.
He thought he saw a rustle in the grass and leaped for it. He tackled the kinetic piece of grass as hard as he could, knowing there was a Pokemon behind it. Unfortunately, it had just been the wind...again. He stood up quickly, wiping mud off his clothes. That's the third time I've done that. I've got to stop leaping at shadows... He thought unhappily.

A ranger shuffled through the tall grass of the field with a linoone by her side. She had spotted the soon to be new trainer before he had even walked into the Patch of Tall Grass. Of course she decided to have him wait a bit in the rain before going to him. Wanting to stay under the dry oak tree instead but she had a job to do and that was that.
Making her way to the boy she called out over the pellting rain. "Tackling the ground won't help you you know." She smirked as she stood maybe a foot away from the kid. Pulling out an umbrella she handed it to him. "Keep it."
She looked down at her pokemon who seemed to be intent on finding a wild pokemon for the boy. The rain had made it had to track so of course it had to use it's sight. Hearing wouldn't do any good with the rain.
Looking back at the male she held out a now wet hand. "I'm Ranger Sam. I'll get your starter pokemon in a minute. Mind telling me what you prefer? I can't promise anything but I'll do my best."

Ethan's face flushed. He took the umbrella grudgingly, hoping the ranger had been the only to see him embarrass himself fully."Thanks." He mumbled. He looked around for a moment, making sure there was nobody else here. He shook her hand, his was equally wet. Immediately after he jammed his frigid hand into his pocket. Finally, he though about he question. He hadn't even considered this before. What Pokemon would suit him best? After a moment or two he finally said, "I'm not too picky, but I'd love a flying type." He smiled, happy about his choice. "I'm Ethan by the way." He introduced himself quickly.

The ranger smirked at the sheepish expression on Ethan's face, before letting out a sigh. "I don't know why trainers always come on rainy days." she said, shaking her head with mock disappointment. Ranger Sam slipped a pair of green waterproof gloves on before heading after the Linoone. "I'll try to find one, but in this weather, wish me luck!" she called back before slipping away.
He'd probably get a water or grass pokemon, they thrived in this sort of weather. Linoone sniffed around, peeking over the grass to find a pokemon. He'd had plenty of practice finding pokemon in these conditions. Finally he saw a movment and lept, pinning down the startled pokemon.
Sam quickly came back, holding a pokeball glistening with dew, she gave it to him and smiled briefly. "Nice pokemon." she said.
Congrats you've got a Wingull!

"Thanks." Ethan said graciously, not looking up from staring at the Pokeball in his hands. A wingull... He thought, Water and flying, two really good types. I'll call her...Gem. He smiled at the name he had come up with. Finally, he looked up at Ranger Sam. "Am I good to leave?" He asked, reducing the size of the Pokeball and placing it on his belt.

"Welcome." The Ranger grinned.
"Oh, wait, you will be needing this..." She said handing him a Starter Pack, "Dont know how far you could go without it, and now your good to go."
The ranger turned and started to walk off, "Have fun!" She waved.

Ethan waved happily, putting everything in his pack before leaving. The world seemed like a different place with a Pokemon. It seemed easier and friendlier and like a better place. Ethan knew his "better place" would only improve if he joined Team Death.
((Thanks for replying, all! ;D))
