Windra felt swamped with relief when the Budew came out of hiding. She sighed, wiping sweat of the midday heat from her brow. Well that was one obstacle out of the way ... But staring down at the little creature filled her with a sense of compassion which she could not clearly describe. This little guy was young. A protective feeling rose in her gut and Windra pushed it back down with force.
When the Budew finally charged up to her feet ... presuming that was what happened, of course ... Narcissus made the effort to translate Pokéspeech to Windra, for the little one suddenly erupted into an agitated squawk. Zed was becoming better with understanding what the Drowzee was saying. More than one word made it through to her mind ... She uttered a laugh at Budew's complaint and crouched down again. They were nearly eye-level now. Okay, maybe not. Windra's bent knees could easily touch the sapling's face.
"I can't get short," Windra corrected, sticking her tongue out in a giddy expression. "But I'll try for ya." Ohh, the little one was suddenly interested in the bat! She placed it on the ground, poking it so that it rolled slightly. The steel gleamed in the sun. "Baseball bat," she explained. "People use them in a game called 'Baseball'. I use it for protection." A sheepish grin overcrowded her face. "See, I came from a bad area. My brother was mugged outside of our house ... A lot of danger. This kept the danger away." Or at least scared them ..., she thought.
Narcissus posed a question, which was answered tearfully. Oh wow, did he do it ... Budew suddenly erupted into tears. Windra was left without really knowing what to do. The sister inside her wanted to reach out and hug the guy, to try and make her feel comfortable and safe and happy. But on the other hand ... What place did she have? Budew was all alone, and for what reason? Who had done that: stripped her of her parents? Brothers? Sisters? If she had any siblings at all, that was ... Humans? Had humans done it? No wonder she was so distrustful and uneasy around them.
< I'm - I'm fine ,> stuttered the little sapling, turning her back to them so that she could quell her anguish and sorrow. Fighting an inner battle with herself, Windra was unsure ... until a nudge from Narcissus from behind urge her forth.
So she'd crawled to Budew and sat down, cross-legged, beside it. A hand reached out, tentative at first. It rested a foot behind Budew's back, shaking and pulling back and forth. With a gulp Windra brought the hand down and gently patted a curled leaf tipped with a red spore that would eventually become a bright red rose. "It's alright," she mumbled, trying her best to be reassuring. Her smile was there - bright and cheery, though her eyes read a mix of uncertainty. "I'm sorry it got brought up ... "
Gritting her teeth, she glanced at Narcissus. A silent conversation waltzed its way between them. Windra would have to leave son if she wanted to make it to the next town by nightfall. But she didn't want to leave this guy behind. Budew was young. How many humans would come by, eager to entrap her in a ball?
< Would you like to come with us? > Narcissus suddenly spilled. Trying to define his words better, he continued with, < Not as a Trained Poké or anything like that, but ... > Faltering, he glanced to Windra.
She took it from there. "As a companion." And she seemed a little stronger in the way she talked - brave and comforting. "No pokéball, no catching, nothing like that. You could hang with us as we go places, explore things, meet people ... And if anybody tries to catch you, they'd have to get through us first." She gestured to herself and the Drowzee with a nod of her head, then gulped, hoping Budew wouldn't think negatively.

<What about the flowers?> The Budew askd worriedly. <Who is going to take care of them?> It was one of he rmain concerns. It had been her families garden. She couldn't just let the flowers die. It was the one thing keeping her from joining Windra and Narcissus. But maybe, if she could come back every once in a while...

For a moment, Windra's hopes spiked. Budew hadn't flipped out about what she said, which was a relief - she was worried the Pokémon would take it the wrong way somehow or another. But when a response failed to meet the Trainer's ears, Windra pondered that maybe she hurt the sapling's feeling on a deeper level and shirked at the notion. Oh, that would be typical - always scarring people emotionally by doing or saying something that came out the wrong way ...
But ... < What about the flowers? > Budew piped up suddenly (Narcissus translated). Her voice was anxious. < Who is going to take care of them? >
The flora! Turning casually to the abundant garden, Windra realized something she hadn't taken note of before. Ever inch of the thing was blossoming with some sort of petal or some sort of color or some sort of fauna. When she and Narcissus ran into Budew for the first time, she'd been watering them with extreme love and tender care - like they were her children. Obviously this was a special place for her. To see it rot and wilt away ...
"Well ... ," she started, rubbing her chin and deep in thought. The Drowzee mocked her movements, eyes taking on a faraway glaze. "Narc and I have no real destination or anything. We're more or less wandering souls. It wouldn't be a problem if we doubled back every few days to check on your garden - I'd hate to see it wither away ... " And that was the truth. There was intense heart put into all this greenwork. In order to come back, tho, I'm eventually gonna need to catch a flying Pokémon ... She grimaced at the thought, sighing.

The Budew glanced up at the earnest trainer, taking in her thoughtful expression and seriousness. Windra seemed nice, her opinion hadn't changed at all. Yet, she still felt apprehension about joining her, it sure felt like she was going to be a burden, either that or just another Pokémon to be ordered around. The Budew took her gaze off the ground and looked deeply into the trainer's eyes. They seemed like a homely crew though, she'd enjoyed what time she had had with them, maybe the favor was returned? The Budew decided to worry about them later, for now she trusted their intentions of protecting her. She did hope she wouldn't be too much trouble though, and voiced her worried aloud. <Are you sure I wouldn't be a bother?> The young Budew took another look at the Garden she had just watered it so it should be fine for quite a while, and she knew that a certain oddish was dying to claim it as her own. Flora would take good care of it, the Budew admitted grudgingly. The garden would be fine in Flora's capable hands. <Okay.> the grass Pokémon said, as if she was confirming what she had just said. <I'll go with you.> the Pokémon said, smiling sweetly up at the trainer. <Thank you...both of you.>she added, scolding herself for forgetting her manners. She shuffled her roots and scampered up to Windra's feet. <I can't walk very fast though. Sorry to be a bother, but...> the Budew began, before trailing off embarrassedly. Being only eight inches tall, keeping pace with any Pokémon was a problem, much less a trainer. Congrats! You've gotten a companion! Name;; You pick Gender;; Level;; 6 Ability;; Natural Cure & Poison Point Attacks;; Absorb, Growth Personality;; You pick A few trees away in a small pond ringed with cattails and multiple trees, a Poliwag was slashing around in the pond. Its rather plump body floating as it dreamed about tasty berries, the large paddle like tail giving a few flicks every ten seconds to keep the water Pokémon afloat. He, as you could say, was sunbathing. The feeling of warm sun was the best, although, his belly got bleached with the sun. His girlfriend had gotten quite upset when she found it. He was celebrating his newfound freedom. No more spending every waking moment with her. The Pokémon let out a happy sigh and continued paddling around the pond.

For all the cuteness and gentleness of Budew, Windra found it troubling when it sought to make eye contact. That was something she was never good at. Fingers reached up to rub the back of her neck, for she was suddenly tense and nervous and trying so hard not to look away. A friend she had met in college once told her that the first couple of times they'd been with each other, he was actually petrified of her because of the refusal to make eye contact. "Then I felt bad," he admitted after some time had passed between them. "Because I thought you were somebody who'd been neglected or abused. People who were appear to need some level of trust before they can look somebody earnestly in the eye." Windra had never elaborated on that keen examination, but she took his words to heart and remembered them from that moment on. Determined to not give in to inner fears that clouded her mind and puzzled her mentality, Windra remained firm. Hazels locked with beady black.
< Are you sure I wouldn't be a bother? > asked Budew rather meekly.
This made Windra let loose an amused rumble. Coincidental, perhaps? She had been thinking the same thing, only reversed. They must be annoying Budew so very much, having first intruded upon her home and then accidentally reducing her to tears ... The pity was welling up inside again. "Of course not," Windra told the little one with a smile. She laughed. "If you wanna see somebody who's a bother, I should introduce you to a friend of mine sometime." Scarlet ... oh gods, that girl was something else.
Budew looked back to her garden for what seemed like forever. Saying goodbye to it, perhaps, in her own special way? Then finally: < Okay. I'll go with you. > Windra saw it coming, so to speak. But to hear the words did shake her core a little bit. On some level, had she been thinking that the Sapling would say no? < Thank you ... both of you ... >
And that smile melted her doubts away. "I should be thanking you," was the cheery reply. "For showing us the way to the lake, for being company .. heck, for being nice. Because you are. Really kind." Awkward moment much? She couldn't properly convey what she wanted to say. Giving up, she gestured to Narcissus, who started towards his Trainer.
< I can't walk very fast though. Sorry to be a bother, but ... > It trailed off just as the Drowzee also came to Windra's feet.
Looking between them, Zed laughed. "First Narc and now you." She was teasing, of course. Sticking her tongue out with a smile perking her lips, Windra bent down. "How's about this, then? Narc, you climb up first."
He did so. Once settled on her shoulders, Narcissus gestured to budew with his stubby yellow arms. < Come on over, > he said. < You're really light. I can carry you on my shoulders. >
"We're gonna look like a walking totem pole," snorted Windra as Budew climbed up. Her face lit up. "And on that note ... hey, we might be intimidating! Maybe nobody or nothing will attack us this way, hmm?
Narcissus lifted the Sapling up with his small, but powerful arms. He stared at the back of Zed's head. < Why is it that you don't put me in a Pokéball, by the by? Other trainers have no problem with it, but I've seen you look at those spheres. You act like they're plague-carriers. >
"Ever hear of Arkham Asylum?" At the shaking of dual heads, Windra elaborated. "It's a fictional loony bin where all these insane criminals go. Including the Joker. Scarlet would rape him if she had the chance." They'd set off walking. Budew's and Narcissus' heads were bobbing with the motion. "Anyways, all these psychopaths are locked away in small cells. They may have been insane to begin with, but the claustrophobia probably makes them nuttier. Pokéballs aren't any better." A shudder slid up her spine. "And honestly, I wouldn't be able to understand why anybody would lock something up like that. It's unreasonably cruel. I can understand the necessity sometimes - like if you're traversing a rope and need to call Pokémon back to their Pokéballs so you can carry them to the other side ... but that's it."
The landscape was changing. Leaving the garden behind, Budew stared back at her lovely home with such a pining look in her eyes ... When she spoke, her voice was breaking. < I r-really hope ... I'm not bothering you ... too much, you know? >
"Nonsense." Windra was feeling more confident now. "You're not bothersome at all." You're adorable. "But I do have one question ... "
< Oh? > The dual vines extending from its stubby body twitched. Out of the corner of her eyes, Zed could see the flash of red and blue from the tips.
"Do you have a name? It'll be difficult to keep calling you 'Budew' ... especially since there are hundreds of Budews around the globe."
The silence was deafening. Windra couldn't tel if the little one was brooding or just deep in thought, searching her memories for something long forgotten. A gulp swelled in her throat. Had she made another mistake? Narcissus seemed to pick up on her dread, for her stroked the back of her skull.
< ... I ... > Budew's voice wobbled. < Mum used ... to call me Thorne. Like the thorns on a rose ... >
"Thorne it is, then!" The tension lifted instantaneously. Ground beneath became slightly soggy, wet to the touch. Mud expanded from the right, where a large pond pooled in the middle of the earth. Cattails sprouted in every direction. Poliwag's spurts were few and far between, and his coloration mocked the water so well that at first they didn't notice him ...

The Poliwag noticed the 'walking totem pole' and thought it was a mutant pokemon or something. He paddled up closer eyeing the strange pokemon. He slipped out and followed it curiously his purple feet waddling and getting covered in sand. His tail leaving a little path.

"Alright you guys," Windra asked quietly, breaking a moment of comfortable silence between them. "I gotta ask you something."
Weight shifted on her shoulders. < What is it? > asked Narcissus. His voice mocked concern, but also aloofness. That was the one thing she was beginning to adore about the Drowzee - he could be deahloty serious about a subject, but also know when to grin and laugh and cast it aside as if it were nothing. He was lax, a trait that was hard to come by anymore.
"I've had moments in my life in which I was stalked. You know - people chasin' after me and trying to get by undetected. Or not botherin' to hide themselves ... "
< And? >
"Ya think we're being followed?"
There was a pause before Narcissus piped up again. < Why do you ask that? >
"Listen," Windra commanded, and they did so. Drifting above the sound of frogs and toads and crickets in the tall cattails grasses of the marsh was the noise of something swishing back and forth against the ground. Dragging. And it was behind them - not to far off, but not too close either. Whatever was making the racket was small, however. It was not a thunderous roar, but something that lingered in the back of the head without really disturbing it. Had Windra not been rally attentive right now, she would have passed it off for background noise and nothing more. "Thorne, you've got the Crow's Nest position. Care to look around?"
The Budew did so, swiveling about on Drowzee's shoulders in similar mannerism of a lighthouse. They were still walking, so the sapling bounced up and down with the turbulent movement. But her beady little eyes were focused and intent on doing their job. < Behind us, > she said timidly, voice low and meek. < Something blue and white ... I, uh, I haven't seen anything like it before ... >
< What's it look like? > asked Narcissus, suddenly interested.
< Um ... > Thorne trailed off for a few seconds, then: < Small and round and pudgy. It's all blue and has a white belly with a big black spiral in it. Sorta like a hypnotic trance thingy. Uh ... It's got this feather-shaped tail that looks all webbed. No arms, but small feet. And a tiny round red mouth ... >
Windra's eyes lit up. "That sounds like a ... " Turning around so that they were walking backwards, the girl laid eyes upon a tadpole Pokémon who was following them. She waved enthusiastically - a gesture that Budew mimicked. "A Poliwag!" Her eyes widened and her face catered to a awe-inspired look. "Aww, he's kinda cute. Wonder why he's following us?"

The poliwag panicked when the 'pokemon' noticed him. Then he heard the word cute. Oh, of ll words the one he had heard millions of times heach day. 'That's so cute! will you get me one Rollie Pollie?' 'That cloud looks so cute and fluffy wuffy! Can you fly me up there so I can get a piece Rollie Pollie?' And so on and so forth. The misery of women. Ohh the agony, the pain, Why him?

The panic was evident, but how he would react was not. They did not know what was going on within 'Rollie Polli''s head. Guesses could be thrown out there, yes, but most of them would pertain to a curtain of fear and a strong desire to run and get away, fast ... faster than fast! Just run! RUN! Cocking her head on an angle, Windra did little more than fasten her tongue between teeth as she typically did when deep in thought or lurking the endless twists and turns of her mind. She really had no idea what to do with this one ...
I mean, she wouldn't attack it. And wouldn't dare to approach for fear of getting attacked by something that was petrified.
Instead, she did little more than offer a small, slightly shy grin. "We're not gonna hurt you," she told the Poliwag - if it could understand her and wasn't too mulled over by its own thoughts that it couldn't hear them through the tumult.
Windra paused to let the creatures on her shoulders readjust. Narcissus was getting tired of sitting and she felt him place Budew on top of her skull. With the weight of the sapling and the fear of dropping her lifted off of his shoulders, the Hypnosis Pokémon scaled her back and legs until he came to the floor, whereupon he stretched sinewed legs and arms and let loose a long, loooong yawn.
Hazel eyes glanced downwards. "Don't tell me you're ready for another nap ... " Her tone held odd humor as well as the slightest glimmer of impatience. Drowzee'd already had two naps since the trip. What more did he want? They needed to get rolling, yo.
< No, > was the response. Granted he did slur his words a bit out of fatigue, everything he was doing right now showed everything but exhaustion. Stretching one leg out and reaching for the toe-horns and then doing the same witht he other, he appeared to be getting ready to walk. < Like you, I can only sit still for so long. > He pruumm-ed a bit, beaming up. < Though if you wouldn't mind stopping for a quick afternoon doze - >
"De nada," was the stubborn reply in a terrible fake Spanish accent. "Next town over shouldn't be too far away." Windra turned about-face and started marching down the route again, apparently forgetting all about Poliwag. "Which leaves me to my biggest dilemma in a long while ... "
< What's that? > piped up Thorne, wobbling slightly for a better grip in the girl's short hair.
"My line of work, mostly." A sigh escaped pursed lips. "There are countless Trainers out there eager to battle the first person that come across the gain experience and make their Pokémon evolve and get stronger and blah blah blah. They'll all be getting prepped to face the Gym Leader, no doubt - if not in this coming town then the next one over." Her walking stopped and she furrowed a brow. "Come to think of it, I'm kind of surprised we haven't run into snobby 'OH EM GEE BATTLE MEEEE!' person here ... "

After hearing the words of Windra talk about not hurting it's cute body The Poliwag simply walked over to get a better view of the trainer and her Pokémon. The Poliwag seem to be very shocked at Narcissus chubby, and yet weird appearance. <Hmm, what kind of Pokémon are you?> It questioned curiously, not trying to seem rude at all.
<Well, if you guys are looking for trainers, I seen a couple of them up ahead." The Poliwag stated, deciding to be a little helpful. <Becareful though they can get a little crazy.> It added thinking about the girl trainer that had an hugging fit over it's petite body.

"I mean, I could always become something other than a Trainer. That's my point," Windra was saying when the Poliwag hobbled up to them, trying to get a better look. She fought the ureg to sneeze - Thorne's pollen was beginning to seep down to her shoulders, wavering dangerously close to her nostrils ...
< What kind of Pokémon are you? > it asked Narcissus suddenly, curiosity aroused at the sight of its chubby little body with stubby arms and hoofed feet.
Narcissus blinked at the strange amphibian. Rubbing the back of his skull with a confused gleam in his eyes, the Hypnosis Pokémon suddenly felt and acted awkward. < I am a Drowzee. > The answer was simple and he felt that ti was not enough. < My species sleeps a lot. We eat dreams. And we're hardly seen around thee parts, evidently. >
"Sleeps a lot is putting it lightly," Windra barked with a laugh. "Sleeping all the time? That's better."
Narcissus huffed, but appeared amused and did not retort. Thorne looked down at him however. < I was surprised you didn't fall asleep in my garden ... > Her cheeks flushed. < More than one got happy from the aroma of it and passed out right in the flowers. >
< Well, if you guys are looking for Trainers, I seen a couple of them up ahead, > said the frog creature. It was helping them? While Windra felt relieved that it wasn't running away screaming, a certain dread filled her gut at having Trainers come looking for them. < Be careful, though, they can get a little crazy. >
A sheepish look crossed over her features. "Well, um, that's the thing," she attempted to explain, fighting the urge to itch her nose. Don't sneeze don't sneeze don't sneeze ... "I'm not into battling Pokémon. The whole notion seems insane to me. Was thinking of becoming a Breeder, maybe. Or a Ranger." A frown crossed her face. "It would be bad news if a Trainer came strolling up to me. I've got no experience."

A frown crossed her face. "It would be bad news if a Trainer came strolling up to me. I've got no experience."
The Poliwag's eyes nearly popped out at that, and instantly began thinking over the possibilities. It was true, the one thing he hated was being treated like a child. Being called 'cute' and 'adorable' was something to make him cringe, even. But this was something tough and manly, and it was one of the few chances he had to ever act like a big brother.
<Hey! Hey! I could help you. I can give out some pointers...and stuff. Wanna have a practice battle with me? We don't fight till we faint, okay? Its supposed to be a helping battle. We keep making suggestions for the other while we fight. Its fun, my dad did this with me once.> The water type began walking off a couple feet away. It looked like there was no stopping this one, but at least it would be a gentler fight than most of them. Heck, he didn't even care about winning. He was being that mature about it.
<Okay? I'll help you guys out right now. Pretend that I just came onto the scene, and I'm here to fight! Grrrrr...I'm a mean water type. You make the first move.> He giggled to himself, before putting on his best game face. Spreading his feet apart so he could at least balance himself if he was attacked and shoved over.

< Hey! Hey! I could help you. I can give out some pointers ... and stuff. Wanna have a practice battle with me? > Windra blinked at the tadpole. Was he being serious? Didn't she just say that she didn't like the aspect of battling, finding it somewhat insane? But the Poliwag appeared determined. He stalked back a couple of feet. < We don't fight till we faint, okay? > That sounded good at least ... < It's supposed to be a helping battle. We keep making suggestions for the other while we fight. It's fun, my dad did this with me once. Okay? >
"I ... uh ... " A cautious glance was thrown to Narcissus, who was watching the Poliwag with mild disinterest. He was a lax creature by nature and this material didn't phase him. The Drowzee rocked back on the heels of his hooves and yawned widely so the tapir-snout jiggled a little. Doubt wafted in Windra's mind. On her head, the Budew shuddered a little.
< I'll help you guys out right now, > Poliwag continued. < Pretend that I just came onto the scene, and I'm here to fight! > A horribly fake growl issues from his reddish lips. < I'm a mean Water Type. You make the first move. > And the tadpole creature started getting ready, putting on a game face and scooting his legs a bit wider.
But the only thing reading on Narcissus' face was bland amusement. < Why bother? > he was inquiring, scratching behind his ear and pulling off a tick. < I'm too tired ... > A shrug of his shoulders was accompanied by a long yawn.
Windra grinned sheepishly. "You'll have to try harder than that," she told the Poliwag. "Narc is Lax in nature. He won't fight unless something endangers his welfare ... "
But she was tensed, and Thorne felt it. < Are you okay? > she crooned, concern stitching itself between every syllable.
"I don't do Pokémon battles," she whispered back. A frown creased her face. "But I also don't like the thought of getting attacked by an experienced Trainer who could actually do harm to Narcissus ... or anybody else for that matter."
< Why don't you become a Trainer? > Budew continued, trying to think things out. < You don't have to become like the others ... I mean, battling for prestige and all ... > When Windra hesitated, she added, < You could battle to protect? To grow strong a protect people and things? >

The Poliwag was beginning to feel strange just standing there, the Drowzee not even bothering to listen when he was only trying to help them out. One couldn't become strong without training, and training against another was the best kind. Plus it was good exercise, which Narc really needed.
<You're kidding, right?> The Poliwag suddenly became silent. The blowing wind around them was even louder than he was, but he was actually thinking about something that could change the Drowzee's mind.
<You mean you want to die of a heart attack? Getting scratched up in a battle is a small price to pay. You should probably eat less human food too. Mum always said that veggies were good for you. Good exercise helps you lose weight. Maybe a diet would help too.> Suddenly the Poliwag began rambling on random bits of health facts that he heard from his parents and friends. 'I'd be surprised if he didn't care for his own welfare by now.' The Poliwag thought, almost cackling evilly in his head at the thought.

OoC Sorry about the delay, but I left a notice in the Away forum. :]
--
< You're kidding, right? > The Poliwag appeared perturbed. Windra groaned, rubbing her face with a free hand while the other idly twirled the baseball bat about. Budew sat still atop her skull, watching with slight anxiety as the Tadpole-Type went after Narcissus. < You mean you want to die of a heart attack? Getting scratched up in a battle is a small price to pay. You should probably eat less human food, too. Mum always said that veggies were good for you. Good exercise helps you lose weight. Maybe a diet would help too. >
Narcissus rolled his eyes. Was this thing being serious? Did he know anything[ about him, or the Drowzee species as a whole? < Yo really do not know much about my kind, do you? > asked the Hypnosis Pokémon with a hint of fatigue in his voice. A sigh rolled off of his tongue and his chin drooped a bit, but th eyes never left the piercing stare of Poliwag. Orbs met orbs and the Drowzee did not look away. < Human food? Veggies? We don't eat like that. Drowzees are considered Hypnosis Pokémon for a reason, you understand. > He close his eyes and rolled his head towards the sky. < We don't ingest nutritional foods as humans and other Pokémon do. Instead, we feast upon dreams and nightmares. Our bodies convert mental energy into physical energy, which is used to move and function and the like. > Snapping his head back, the Drowzee allowed his gaze to fall upon Windra and an amused quirk forced its way onto his face. < Her's are strange. They cause slight indigestion, but after the initial sickness comes a burst of energy. Zombie dreams do that, I suppose. >
Furrowing her brows, the Trainer laughed. The resulting chortle shook Budew and forced some pollen to fall upon her nose. All that trying to hold a sneeze in? It failed miserably now and she keeled over in response to the sudden jerk of her head, which caused Thorne to fall.
< Eii! > cried the little Sapling, before Windra's arms caught the critter just when she was about to hit the ground. Poor girl was whimpering.
Windra offered a sheepish grin and pulled the baby into a gentle hug in hopes of comforting it. "Sorry, Little On," apologized Zed. "I never admitted to you that I have allergies. The spores coming from your petals is getting to my nose." Looking now at Poliwag, she bowed her head. "I have to apologize for this whole thing, Poliwag. I may be a Trainer, but my morals go in the completely opposite direction. I don't battle for badges or recognition or anything like that."
< Thorne mentioned that you could battle to protect those you care about, > quipped Narc. He held back, wobbling slightly. < A noble cause, even if it does consist of using Pokémon as tools of battle. >
"I'd rather leave the dirty work to myself, thanks," said the fae with a frown creasing her features. "My fists and my bat are just as good as any Thunderbolt, if applied properly."
< Save those weapons for human enemies that you encounter, then. The theme of human versus human seems to be the way of nature. As such, then Pokémon versus Pokémon is the same thing. > A small smile tugged at the corners of the tapir-based Pokémon's mouth. < If I were to train, I could become stronger. This way I could protect you, just as you would protect me. >
Without giving a chance for Windra to respond, Narcissus suddenly wheeled on the Poliwag and launched at him with a Pound aimed towards the thick of its belly. Despite his heavy appearance, the Drowzee was quite agile on his feet. One had to wonder if it was fat that made him appear so round and plush ... or muscle.

The Poliwag was having trouble trying to decipher the Drowzee's meaning behind his words, but nodded his head in response anyway. Trying to be somewhat respectful to the older Pokemon, but it was hard when one's eyes were drooping. He was already getting pretty tired from the long morning, and not to mention this sudden lecture. He was just about to let his eyes close for a brief second when he noticed the Drowzee lunging at him with his hand extended. Just ready to smack him silly with a Pound attack.
<Ahhh! Hey wait I wasn't ready!> He squealed, trying frantically to get away from the beat down, but just couldn't The only thing he could do was slither away from the Psychic type's fist with his slime coated skin. Hopefully with that gunk on him, it would be easier to avoid attacks.
'Wow...He's pretty fast. Kinda scary when he runs like that too. I don't know what attack would be best. Do sleepy moves work on sleepy Pokemon? ' The Poliwag thought with a confused tilt of the head. Well, everything had to sleep sometime. And he looked as lazy as ever, even after making such an attack.
So the water type decided to give Hypnosis a shot, turning his large belly in Narcissus's direction with narrowed eyes. Letting out a fake yawn as he did this, a trick he learned from his papa. Since yawns tended to spread from Pokemon to Pokemon, regardless of whether they were sleepy or not. Letting out a whispering chant, he began to send out sleep inducing waves at the Psychic type.

Feeling Budew tense atop her head, Windra grimaced when the first strike was made by Narcissus. She didn't know whether to feel elated or dismayed when he missed completely. Poliwag jumped back in surprise. Had he been caught off-guard? Funny, she thought he'd been paying attention. Obviously not.
< Are they going to hurt each other? > Thorne was whimpering. Her heart went out to the poor girl. She really was petrified of all the fighting, wasn't she? Even if it was a small skirmish ...
"It's only a practice battle," she told the critter. "Nobody's going to get hurt, I promise." Her reassuring words were met with a relaxing Sapling, and Windra found herself exhaling as well.
Oh the irony! Within time, Narcissus found himself staring intot he swirling vortex that was Poliwag's stomach. The Tadpole's yawn made matters worse. Weariness was setting in aweful quick ... His eyes were drooping.
But the least he could do was share the wealth.
Almost asleep now, the Drowzee waved his arms about in front of his long snout. Sagging eyes began to swirl. Narcissus sorely hoped the Poliwag would be looking at the Drowzee's own version of Hypnosis as his head fell against his chest.

The Poliwag felt his eyes begin to droop much as much as they had from before, finding himself in a tricky predicament. It would probably be safe to take a little snooze, knowing very well that the Drowzee had fallen asleep first. He could only hope that he would wake up before Narcissus, which wasn't very likely.
Finding it even harder to fall asleep than before, the Poliwag found himself entranced by the Drowzee's psychic waves, only made stronger because he was an actual Psychic Pokemon. There wasn't even a chance to let out a last second attack, and he was soon asleep.
It would probably be a boring match to watch, but it was really a tense situation. Who would wake up first? And when would they wake up? Hopefully within a couple of turns so at least something would happen soon.

Within a few turns, yes.
But for now? Mostly it would be just waiting. Since both Narcissus and the Poliwag had attacked consecutively in the last post, they wouldn't bolt from their separate naps immediately afterwards, now would they? Right now it was something similar to a staring match, except the staring was being done through closed eyelids and blocked minds engulfed in drowsiness.
It was amusing. And thus, Windra burst into wild laughter. Irony was a clear-cut winner today. Was it having fun with everybody's lives or what? Her first battle, and both contenders were passed out - slacking on the job, mused the Trainer to herself.
< Are they thinking? > Thorne asked suddenly. She was blinking between the two, pretty curious and very confused about the current goings-on. < Neither of them are moving ... >
"Naw, they're both asleep," Windra answered, stifling her laughter with a sniffle.
< But Narcissus took a nap a little while ago, didn't he? >
"Hypnosis is another matter altogether." Sensing the Budew's perplexion, she attempted to explain after slipping a tongue between her lips. "Both of them used Hypnosis, an attack that focuses on dismantling the opponent by putting them immediately to sleep. This leaves the enemy vulnerable to attack. But ... "

Windra’s laughter didn’t go unnoticed by the Poliwag, it was embedded within his subconscious and into his dreams. Despite his will to wake up, his mind was blocked by a powerful darkness. The only thing he could do was sleep some more until something dramatic happened. Not even the thickest Pound attack could wake him up at this moment, for this was the high of the sleep attack. Its chains were the strongest against the water type once he really began to fall asleep.
He could also hear Thorne’s soft voice, a picture of a Buduw faintly coming up within his dreams. Like a reflection in the water, before disappearing into a clear darkness. The spell of sleep was beginning to slowly go away, but the young Poliwag had forgotten about his urge to battle.
Now he wasn’t sleeping because of the Hypnosis, he was simply sleeping because he was tired. How about that? It was another lucky break for the Drowzee and his trainer.
