Tess smiled brightly and walked along a path that circled the volcano. She might have tried to go inside, but she didn't exactly feel like walking around in lava. How painful would that be?
She was perfectly happy with just looking around outside the valcano until she had reason to go inside. In her arms she carried a small egg she had purchased from a shop. It held a Houndour inside, and she just couldn't wait until it hatched.
"Wonder where all the Fire Types are. . . ," she muttered quietly to herself, smiling. Fire Types were her favorite, and the only thing she trainer besides Electric Types. She didn't like most Grass types, but she needed something that could handle those pesty little Water Types.

A volcano in the distance exploded, lava, magma and ash going everywhere. Some Pokemon stood bold, watching the lava flow as others, ran for safety. In fact, a stamped of Ponyta was running from the Volcano and a lone female, a bit slower then the Stamped was running straight for the trainer...
::Ponyta:: Appeared!

Tess gasped as the Volcano decided to blow it's fuse and she watched in awe as the lava started to spill over. Guess it was a good thing she hadn't been wondering around in the caverns or whatever. . .
She spotted the Ponyta coming toward her and she completely forgot that they might just trample her. She was too excited to be thinking straight. Or realize that she was pretty much in some deep shiz if she didn't run away like they were. . .
The oblivious trainer-- star struck as she was-- removed one arm from around her Houndour egg and waved to the Ponyta. "Hi there!" she called. Maybe she could make friends with one. . . She would much rather not cause such a majestic creature any pain.

The Ponyta was more of a simple minded one, and while caught up in the excitement with the rest of the herd, she barely noticed that there was a human standing right in her path. If the human didn’t move, she was seriously going to be trampled. And possibly die.
Just a warning.

"Oh, hey-- darnnit!" she muttered, diving out of the way of the Ponyta's path. She blinked, then followed after it. She pretty much knew she wasn't going to be keeping up with it, but maybe if she could catch its attention. . .
She was not about to let the Ponyta escape. No way.
However, she had no clue what to do, so she leaned down, picked up a rock about the size of a golf ball and chucked it at the Ponyta. It was better ask for forgiveness, anyway.

After all of that running, you wouldn’t think that something as simple as a rock would stop a mad Ponyta in its tracks. But she was a quirky Ponyta, and any feeling of pain always made her freak out in the strangest of ways. She reared up into the air, stopping as her weight helped her to come to a complete stop, with her front hooves waving as wild as her mane of fire. Her hooves fell to the ground once more, in a resting position as she slowly turned to gaze upon the wound inflicted on her.
She didn’t say anything, for she still hadn’t noticed Tess in the distance, probably still a little frightened from her life and death experience. But there was a distant expression in the Ponyta’s eyes, as if she wasn’t really there.

Tess sighed in relief as the Ponyta came to a halt. She was surprised that she had been able to throw the stone far enough, but apparently she didn't know her own strength. She started walking, knowing that she would have to hurry if she wanted to catch the Ponyta.
However, she did not run. She knew better than to run at a spooked horse. Or any horse, for that matter. The creatures were very skittish, she knew, and she might be seen at a threat if she were to approach too fast.
"Hey, there," she cooed once she was within earshot of the pony Pokemon. She smiled brightly, trying to seem as friendly as she possibly could. "You're safe now. You don't have to worry," she continued as she slowed her walk to a little faster than a crawl.

Her ears perked up at the sound of soft footsteps, now able to detect such sound since her herd was now long gone, roaming through the distant tunnels of the Volcano. It wasn’t that much of a worry though, for now her curiosity was aroused with this new creature, who spoke with a voice as soft as an angel’s.
She appeared hesitant, as if not knowing how to react to the human. Taking a tentative step forward, but moving back in an instant when she realized she didn’t feel comfortable being so close to her. Finally, she allowed Tess to walk right up to her. Petting her was an option, for her mane was no longer hot. But the moment she got nervous again, you would get singed to a crisp.

Tess smiled brightly as she realized that this beautiful creature was going to let her get close. Moving painfully slowly, she stuck her hand in her pack and dug around until she came out with a handful of Pokemon food.
"Here. . . Try some of this," she crooned as she slowly walked up to the Pokemon until she was at arm's length. She reached her arm out, holding her hand flat with the Pokefood on her palm. "It's good."
She wanted so much to reach out and pet the pony Pokemon, one of her dream Pokemon, but she didn't want to get burned. She knew Ponyta could control the heat of their manes, and she was not ready to get hurt. She wanted to make friends with the Pokemon, and the Ponyta might not like her petting her.

The Ponyta seemed to relax little by little as the food was offered; she checked it out by sniffing the tiny food pellets before scooping them up into her mouth. She was gentle, as well as shy around this new human. There wasn’t a chance of her accidentally biting Tess’s hand, because she was so careful not to make this new friend of hers’ angry or upset.
Not once, during this entire time, had she spoken. One had to wonder if she could even speak at all, or perhaps she simply knew that Tess couldn’t understand her, and didn’t even bother trying. There were lots of reasons you could think over in your mind, but you’d never get the true answer that way.
She finished what was offered to her with a small smile, more relieved to find that she met someone friendly, instead of a new foe that wanted to fight. She bowed her head quickly, to show her gratitude for the trainer’s kindness.

Tess's face lit up as the Ponyta began to eat from her hand. A happy little shiver went down her spine. They were such wonderful Pokemon. Graceful and beautiful and strong. She thanked her lucky stars for bringing her to this new Pokemon and giving her this opportunity.
She smiled brightly at the little pony Pokemon and gently stroked the top of her head, being sure to move slowly. With her free hand, Tess took out an empty Pokemon and slowly lifted it for the Ponyta to see.
"Hey. . . How would you like to come along with me?" she asked the Pokemon, her voice a little croon. She didn't want to sound like the gorgeous horse Pokemon didn't have a choice, for if this little beauty didn't want to be with her, then she definitely would not force her, no matter how disappointed she was.

The innocence of the Ponyta stood out when she eyed the Pokeball questionable, not sure whether it was some type of toy, or if it contained food inside of it. She was a very wild Ponyta, and these were the types of things that made her nervous, but a little curious as well. Her ears tilted backwards, almost showing disapproval upon the object, but she was actually listening to the footsteps of her herd, or at least several of them running back to this same spot.
”Poooooo!” Several cried in the background, almost in a panic from some rare disaster that had struck. She instantly turned her attention away from the Pokeball, nearly tripping over her four legs while stumbling backwards to get a better view.
Two wild Ponyta ran straight toward the female in a panic. Neither noticing Tess at all while they talked to each other in a frantic conversation, the female getting more and more agitated until she couldn’t take it anymore, the trio ran off into a nearby cave. Only half way did she stop, turn to look at Tess, as if trying to ask for her help, before continuing onward.
