[yeahh i know i'll probably just ditch the roleplaying after a bit (again) but i have some muse and i want to spend it wisely before it flits away again.]
The girl trudged along, all her pokemon released from their pokeballs. It wasn't that she trusted them, oh hell no. She had ahold of Climber's tail, trying to keep the young treecko from making a break for it. Burn taunted Scaleon, Point tried to catch Tail, and Mudkip noisily followed Lyra's exact steps. She often had to turn and yell at Burn to keep up the pace, and then the scaleon would turn around and stick out his tongue.
Then the charmander would start running, and the fighting would begin all over again. Lyra sighed, trying to keep a firm grip on Climber's tail. The treecko would run off to explore as soon as the girl let go, and she knew that well. Climber was tensed for her escape. The grass-type had leaped a few minutes back, but the girl had tightened her grip at the last second and jerked the young pokemon back.
"Shaddup, you guys!" Lyra turned to yell at the charmander and scaleon as the bickering grew more intense. "Gawd, you're giving me a headache!"
<Maybe you shouldn't have let us all out?> Burn sneered. Lyra sighed, wishing she spoke his language. he was such a bratty little snot, she almost wished she'd chosen another starter. The girl was in fact tempted to pull out each pokeball and return each pokemon, but they deserved a day out in the cold winter sun. Good god, it was cold outside. She shivered.
<I'm not cold.> Burn laughed cruelly. His entire body was toasty warm, in fact. <Today is a wonderful day!> He laughed again.
<Shut up you pig-faced little weasel.> Scaleon snarled.

All of the commotion caught the attention of a Marill that was tucked under the roots of a tree. She lifted her head as the trainer and all of her Pokemon walked by, then she jumped out of her little hole and followed after them.
She had never seen a trainer with so many Pokemon out at once. The little blue mouse was rather confused, too, as it seemed the Pokemon were just fighting with each other. Wasn't it getting on the trainer's nerves?
Well, there was only one way to find out. She was going to follow this trainer to find out why she was putting up with the Pokemon's bickering. Maybe she was just ignoring the Pokemon. But no. . . Oh! The Marill was so confused, but she was afraid to ask any questions, lest the Pokemon attack her.

The charmander crossed his arms, contemplating whether to send out a little fire to cool the scaleon's temper. But he merely hmphed and turned around, giving Scaleon the "cold shoulder." It really wasn't a very cold shoulder.
Because he turned around, he noticed the marill following them. <Hey!> he squeaked indignantly. <What are you, some sort of spy?> He'd have tried to burn her with an Ember, but she was a water-type. Even he wasn't rash enough to attack a non-hostile water-type. <Lyra! Lyra! We're being followed! Loo-> He was cut off as Tail the taillow wrapped her claws around his tail and lifted him a few inches into the air, dragging him away.
<Shush!> She scolded him. The charmander struggled out of her grip, hmphing again. But he sat back. The little bird-pokemon flew over to the marill. <Pay no attention to Burn, he's a jerk.> Unlike Burn, her voice was calm and serene. She was much kinder than the pig-headed charmander. <He can't seem to get it into his head that nobody likes him.> She sent a meaningful glance in Burn's direction, who returned to tormenting his team. This time, he chose Point the nidoran as his target.
<Hiya there, purple boy!> He jeered cheerfully. <Been hittin' the 'shrooms lately?>
<Shut up, you stupid spewmonkey.> Point pointed his horn in Burn's direction, which made the charmander back up hastily.
<Hey, hey, hey, c'mon, we're all friends here...> He waved his hands in an attempt to get the nidoran to calm down. <Right? Riiight...?> All he got as an answer was glares from the whole team, including Lyra.

The Marill froze fearfully as the Charmander turned on her. Was he going to attack? No. . . Oh, but he was alerting his trainer! Oh, she was going to be in trouble for sure! She glanced around frantically, looking for a way to escape or hide, but she wasn't fast and the path was very big. . .
She sighed a heavy breath of relief as a Taillow dragged the hostile lizard away and apologized. She smiled up at the friendly little bird and gave a little wave with one of her stubby little arms. {Oh. . . It's fine. I've met meaner Pokemon that him,} she said sheepishly, scuffing the ground.
{I didn't mean to come off as a spy, though. . . I was just curious as to why all these Pokemon were out. . . ,} she explained hastily, hoping that she could maybe calm the Charmander down a little bit. But it seemed as if Burn was occupied with a different Pokemon for now.
{Are you all together? Or are some of you wild and just following because that Charmander was mean to them?} she asked shyly, a small blush sliding across her face. She wasn't good with meeting new people, but right then her curiousity was winning over her normally shy demeanor.

When the nidoran backed up to give the charmander some breathing space, Burn smiled nastily. <Oh, but of course we're not friends. What kind of friend rams his horn into someone else's gut?> He'd have poked the nidoran's hide, if he wasn't afraid of being gutted on the spot. Wow, he really went far, didn't he?
Point ground his teeth in frustration. Mudkip patted him sympathetically. <Leave him.> She said, a little too loudly. <He goes away if you ignore him.> The charmander hmphed, looking away. He didn't have any targets left, because the scaleon had now dropped back with the taillow.
<Oh, no.> Tail said in reply to the marill's question. <We're all Lyra's pokemon, though we'd all love to kick Burn out. Unfortunately, he was her starter pokemon, and she thinks she can batter some sense into him eventually.> She fluttered for a second, hovering over the ground, then landed carefully. However, because her bird-body was light, she landed on the scaleon's back. Tail was the only Scaleon really liked. He hated Burn, and the others were just sort of there for him.
<Lyra! Lyra, hey, pay attention! They're being mean to me!> Burn whined. The girl abruptly turned, her eyes on the young shiny charmander. She whipped out a foot, stopping inches from his stomach. The young fire-type winced, expecting a blow that never came.
"Look, you. You bring this upon yourself. Maybe you should try cooperating for once." She whipped around again without ever noticing the marill.

The Marill looked over at the Charmander and huffed. {Well, if he ever tried being mean to me I'd just give him some of my Water Gun! That'd cool him off,} she said, not liking the Charmander's attitude at all. She suddenly regretted it, though, hoping that the two Pokemon wouldn't take offense to her declaration.
Sighing, she walked with the two, eyeing the Scaleon slightly. She hadn't seen that kind of Pokemon around before. It seemed as if the Pokemon and the Taillow were friends, though, so she saw no particular reason to be afraid of him. Marill twitched her tail as the trainer pretended to lash out at her Pokemon.

"Okay, hands up whoever wants Burn to go." One hand went up. "And anyone on four legs should jump." Three more jumped. "And anyone with wings should land and raise a wing." Tail landed, raising her right wing. "Well, that's settled then." She yanked Burn's pokeball off her belt, facing the charmander.
<What? No! That's soo unfair!> She pressed the button, trying to return him. He leaped to the side, and the red flash just missed him. Lyra growled, aiming at at him again. He leaped away again. This time, Climber the treecko came up and grabbed him from behind. He struggled free of her hold, but was stopped by Mudkip as she backed him up. He fell right into Climber's arms again, and was successfully returned to his pokeball.
<That takes care of a lot of problems.> Scaleon commented quietly. Tail's eyes smiled. It was pretty hard to curve a beak up into a smile, and somewhat painful. She never took the time and effort to do it. Most birds didn't. <And now we can begin to enjoy the day.> He nodded, but didn't smile. He didn't smile a lot.

The Marill couldn’t help but let out a little giggle as Burn was unwillingly put into his Pokeball, all of the others seemed to think it was amusing, so she didn’t see the harm in showing a little emotion. She was careful not to offend anyone, unless they really bugged her, or if she wanted to make friends by insulting others. It wasn’t the nicest way to start up a conversation, but it tended to work.
<So you all stick around with her, right?> She motioned toward Lyra. <Do you guys battle a lot?> She was more curious than anything. She heard that trainers caught wild Pokemon like her all of the time. But sometimes, Pokemon that were weak would be released back into the wild. It was kinda sad, and she recalled a pal that lived around here that went through that very experience.
