Oddish was brave. Oddish was fierce. Oddish was going to stand its ground. Until it saw Shinx barreling down on it yet again. Squealing in fear again, Oddish clenched its eyes and jumped up just as the little lion ran at it, letting the little thing run beneath it and catching some serious air in its leaves. And then things started coming down, literally, and it all started with the Shinx’s tail brushing its body when it fell which consequently allowed for the transduction of the attack up along Oddish’s small, black body. It felt the pulsing current and squealed in yet more pain, landing on the ground and rolling about on its sides, to and fro; fro and to, as if that would get rid of the burns it suffered in being shocked by the short yet intense burst of electricity that was Shinx’s spark attack. But since most of the power in a spark attack came from the force of the tackle that accompanied it, Oddish was saved from most of the damage. Rolling around there on the ground, kicking up dust and sand, it released another involuntary sweet scent, imbuing the air with the fragrant smell of Oddish fear and with the gentle breeze wafting in on them, it dispersed in an even mist. Like a small localized rain cloud settling over an area, the fine granules of dust dropped like bits of sand from the air, glittering in the sun like small diamonds ground up and scattered to the wind.
“ODD!” It piped up as it bounded to its small feet and fixed Shinx with a dark, angry glare. That coward! Imagine the nerve of attacking someone from behind! Well, Oddish wasn’t going to stand for that, now was it? Oh no! Sucker was going down! Down! Down! Down! To the ground, to get out of the rain. Rain like the rain of Oddish’s vengeance for that cheap shot! Leaves extended toward Shinx again, Oddish sucked and sucked until it was started to turn blue in the face…well, a lighter blue anyway. It was doing all it could to take down that little sucker of a lion because nobody but nobody but nobody made Oddish look bad. Imagine! Getting dust on its leaves AND hitting it with that awful attack. Speaking of that awful attack, Oddish’s foot felt numb and somewhat tingly from its brief run-in with Shinx’s tail, and it bore a burn from the electrical current that had passed between them. Talking about sparks flying! A shame that they were on two different sides here or maybe they could have been friends.
Standing there in the glittering pollen that fell down upon it, Oddish glared for all that it was worth while it tried absorbing Shinx’s energy. The energy that it had obtained before was just enough to make up for its previous antics, but now that it had actually suffered damage, well, now it needed more. For some odd reason, it couldn’t remember actually feeling cold, couldn’t remember just why this had all started. It was consumed by one thing and one thing only: that Shinx. If it wasn’t so adorable, it would have growled and bared its nonexistent teeth. But as that wasn’t the case, it settled for trying to ciphon the life out of it. Rawr, baby. Rawr.

(.you=amazing. YOU DESERVE AN M-MAZING BAR~)
He skidded to a halt and turned around just in time to see the oddish launching another attack. Poor Stretch may have been able to dodge the absorb this time, but with all that pink glittering sweetness in the air, his evasion was severly lowered. Once more, energy was sapped from the shinx, and half of it passed along to the blob of terror. This time, Riley managed to get an order in before the shinx retaliated. "Try biting it!" And Stretch did so, bounding over to his adversary and attempting to clamp his teeth into... it's... um... something or other.

Oddish didn’t have time to get any of her brave heroics in this time and it made her pouty and sulky and all manner of other things else! The Shinx’s mouth was wet and gross and moist and warm and firm and…Oddish found herself zoning out even as the fangs from the little lion gnawed into her skin, but the odd thing was that she felt no pain from it, evidence of the Shinx’s inexperience though she did feel the pressure and felt quite uncomfortable because if it. Never in her life had she ever been handled this roughly and, well, she was starting to become positive that she liked it. The only problem was that if she didn’t get out of this somehow she’d have issues later on: like fainting from the pleasure…er… pain of it all. So she scrunched up as tightly as she could and let loose one of the largest clouds of pink powder she could into the Shinx’s face, eyes and all, and in the resulting confusion, wrenched herself loose and shook off the saliva from Shinx’s mouth. Then, dredging up all of her strength, she pushed herself against Shinx’s chest, leaves wrapping themselves around the lion’s neck as she hung on for dear life and tried her best absorb. She’d taken a lot of damage from that bite attack and while it had been rather fun to be shaken around and the like, she couldn’t let her energy reserves drop! She had a fight to win! She couldn’t lose! She had her honor to defend! Her pride was on the line! Among other things, but pride was the most important of things.
“OOOODISH!” She bellowed, green leaves fanning about in the Shinx’s face while some grappled around its neck in a not so tight noose even though she felt as if she were giving a death grip. Things didn’t come easily to this little Oddish. Sometimes even walking in a straight line was a struggle and as far as battling went, this was the longest she’d gone without someone laughing at her and pushing her over. Everything she had was the result of her hard work and she was quite proud of it. So to think that she would give up now when she was on the cusp of victory, laughable! Her pride wasn’t a simple vain act or something that she put on just to look tough (well, not all of the time). It was something she had worked so hard to build up and it brought pale blue tears to her eyes to think that she was so close to losing it… Glancing up into Shinx’s eyes, Oddish gave it a beseeching looking, hoping it understood. “--Dish…” she whispered through the strain it took to use her attacks in this weather for which she was not suited, and then clenched her eyes closed again, body attempting to regenerate damaged tissue. She just had to hold on. She had to.
The danger to her freedom, her pride, and everything else was real! She wanted nothing more than to become strong. New determination light up her eyes as they snapped open and she attempted with some effort to pull energy from Shinx even though it would take but a simple shake of its brilliant blue mane to throw her off. She wasn’t strong, she was often quite stupid, and more than anything else she was a fool who believed in her dreams. All in all, just another bump on some trainer’s path to become stronger. Well, as he’d soon learn (and this she was determined to prove), this bump bumped back. “ODD!” No one was going to underestimate her again. She would make sure of that.

(the first paragraph had me lulzing but then the next few -SOBS OPENLY FOR ODDISH- I FEEL YOU GIRL)
Stretch howled in terror, consequently releasing the beautiful oddish from his pathetic grip (of steel). In all the mayham (that and he was blinded by the PRETTY IN PINK dust lololol), he was totally unable to see the attack coming. The absorb hit, and was a critical one at that. It wiped out more than half of the lion cub pokemon's health points, leaving him hanging on to conciousnes by the hairs of his chiny chin chin. Blinking away the powder, he looked into oddish's begging face, and felt nothing but pity. Giving a soft whimper, the shinx collapsed, feigning exhaustion to give the poor cute oddish a chance.
Riley frowned and recalled her pokemon to his pokeball. "That's okay, Stretch, you tried your best." She perked up. This was the perfect opportunity to test out her new pokemon! She chucked a pokeball high in the air. "Alright Zipper!Let's go! Swords dance, then scratch!"
Zipper's magnificent body sparkled briefly as he escaped from the pokeball. Then, the dim whiteness faded, and Zipper the shiny zangoose was revealed! What a sight to behold! The battle friendly cat ferret pokemon wasted no time with formalities. He was already waving his claws in the air in a mad dance, greatly raising his attack stat. Then, out of nowhere, he lunged at the oddish.
(...no inspiritation for a better post right now. -is sick-)

Oddish had no chance to dodge, no chance to move, and no chance to do anything because she went from gazing in awe of all the pretty shiney things to getting herself clawed from head to toe which which put her on her back, eyes unfocused and body twitching in pain. She hadn't stood a chance, really, because it had taken her all to deal with the super cute annoying lion cub, and after he'd fallen over, she had thought she'd make it... and then she'd been blinded by the light and in general just taken down like yesterday's chopped liver. The funny thing was that as she lay there, she found an odd sense of peace with it and found no reason to complain. She'd done good. Real good and of that, she was proud.
And as she lay there, vulnerable and defeated, her pollen wafted on the wind, finding the noses of Pokemon who found the scent quite delectable. Apparently, sweet scent had the added effect of drawing the attention of Pokemon in the surrounding area. Who knew?
Oddish is available for capture. One level for all Pokemon who participated.

(argh... catch or no? i despise oddish, but... sweet scent... and she and stretch had such a connection. I suppose riley loves oddish, though, since they're flower-plant-y... rrgh)
Riley cheered, hopping up and down in her excitment. "Whoohoo! Way to go, Zipper!" She addressed the fainted oddish now. "Bite me, will ya? I suppose I'll have to teach you some manners. Huh... you look a little blue. Oh, well, I mean, more blue than... nevermind."
She lobbed a pokeball at the oddish and recalled Zipper to his pokeball at the same time.

The pokeball shook a little. The oddish had been to tired to fight against it the pokeball. Finally having the strength leave the pokemon. The ball stopped shaking and it the color faded from red to the pokeballs normal color.

Riley nodded briefly with satisfaction as the pokeball was zapped back to her PC. Where her PC was, she didn't know. Puzzling over this, she turned and shivered, on the lookout for more pokemon to battle. If she wanted to beat the second gym, her team needed some major training!

The sweet scent that the Oddish earlier did had increased the chances of seeing Pokemon. Thats why there was a Pokemon that looked a lot like a tree was standing in front of the trainer and her Pokemon. It looked ready for battle to. "Snover sno!" it said raising an arm and pointing at the trainer. <"I challenge you to a duel!">

Riley considored the pokemon for a while. It looked like it wanted to fight. "Wanna battle, do ya," she muttered, withdrawing a pokeball from her bag. "All right, if that's what you want, then bring it on!" Red and white sphere was tossed high in the sky, a muscle-bound machop was released from it. "Low kick!" "Maaaa chop chop!"
The machop obeyed, running at the snover, stopping near it, bending down and doing one of those elite circle trip kick things they do in the action movies.

The Snover jumped over the leg easily. As it came down it whipped its head and launched leafs as sharp as razors at the muscle Pokemon. It was using a Razor leaf attack! It landed on the ground and waited for the next attack to come if it didn't defeat the trainers Pokemon.

The machop was slashed by the razor-edged leaves, but he was not down for the count yet! He held his side and waited for the next order, which came swiftly. "While it's close! Karate chop!" Grunting, he swung his arms at the snow tree pokemon.

The tree was hit directly in the side by the Karate chop attack. It fell back onto its back seemingly knocked out. However, it stood back up. It shook its head of the stars that had come with the karate chop attack. It then moved its hand up and waved it a little. All of a sudden an ice wind hit the Machop. The attack would hopefully lower its speed.

Machop couldn't dodge the chilling attack, and the ice shards made him very cold, and slowed him considorably. Grunting, he awaited another order - military pokemon rarely did anything unless ordered too. "Focus energy, then karate chop again," ordered Riley. The Lieutenant relaxed his muscles and focused all his energy into attacking, raising his chances of getting a critical hit. Then, he slashed out with his arms at the snover. Karate chop had a high critical hit ratio to begin with, not to mention the increased chance given by focus energy. It was a good strategy, especially for the dim-witted Riley. But the question remained: would the attack hit?

Being at a disadvantage here against this fighting type, it had to use all it could to it's advantage. However, this time the Karate Chop did it in for good. The weird little christmas tree thing fell over with a grunt, unconcious and catchable, if the trainer so wished.

(...level? ) Riley grinned, and might have clapped for her Pokémon had the icy wind not chilled her to the bone, too. So instead, she recalled him to his pokeball. "Nice work," she whispered, putting it back in her bag. The trainer made no attempt to capture the snover. Shivering with the cold, she glanced about for more Pokémon. She couldn't stop training just yet!

All participating Pokémon between levels 5-20 gain a level. Sure, it was a cold day. Cold enough to freeze water? Heck yeah! A violent case of the giggles echoed around the breath of January's wind. The snow had temporarily stopped, leaving the ground with a blanket of fresh snow and many, many footprints that seemed to led over to the lake. Two brown fur balls seemed to be having the time of their life slipping and sliding over the lake. One of them uncurled to reveal a long and bushy tail. Striped like a raccoon with twice the cuteness, it pounced on its companion. Sending it half way across the lakes bitter surface. Not that they minded, they had built in coats. In a daze, the one that was kicked around slowly uncurled its tail to reveal swirly eyes. It was apparently attempting to walk on the ice, only to fall face down on the ice. Causing its companion to fall on its back in laughter. Have a little fun and battle these adorable things?

It did not take long for the bundled up trainer to spot the promising pair. "Aha!" she yipped, fetching two pokeballs from... somewhere... and pitching them into the air. "Let's go! Oscar and... um... Aerodactyl who I have yet to give a spiffy nickname!"
Oscar skidded across the snow with a shudder. Suppressing the cold, the little rattata dashed through the fresh powder, aiming a quick attack right at one of the sentrets. Aerodactyl, on the other hand glared down at the two raccoon pokemon with as much snide as possible. His teeth were gleaming and drool froze when it dripped from his mouth. A scary face attack, in an attempt to lower their speed!

The sentrets didn't seem to realize they were in trouble until too late. The trainer's voice was completely ignored until one of the small pokemon was hit by the barreling purple rat. It screamed in alarm and skid in the snow, leaving a rut. The other one looked up in alarm to be met with two glaring eyes. It froze, unable to utter a single warning yell.
Luckily, though, the other sentret was up and att'um soon enough. It launched itself into the air using its tail, and rose a good foot or two. Then it landed and used the landing to rush its attacker, Oscar the ratatta. It aimed claws and tried to rake the purple rat with them. it was using Fury Swipes!

Oscar gave a shrill screech as claws slashed through his purple fur. The claws struck once, twice, thrice, before he finally broke away from the brutal attack. He was too close for a quick attack now, he realized - so he aimed a tackle at the sentret instead!
Aerodactyl, on the other hand, was grinning maliciously. He had the pokemon right where he wanted it - frozen to the spot! So why not heat things up a bit? His fangs glowed white as he swooped down toward his foe. A fire fang attack!
