Riley had to stand on tip-toe to get her chin over the edge of the safety rail of the bridge. She peered into the crystaline lake curiously. It certainly seemed an ideal location to train Stretch. With so much water around, there were bound to be at least a few water pokemon...
Though, it was rather cold. She shivered just thinking of this, and wrapped her scarf tighter around him neck. Well, there had to be SOME pokemon out, right? Or had the cold weather scared them all away?

Splash. A flash of orange broke the glassy surface of the water, jumping into the air momentarily before re-entering the lake with a splash. It bellowed it's name unintelligently, ugly head poking up out of the water slightly. It locked eyes with Riley.

Riley stumbled back in surprise, scrambling to avoid the splashing water. There was no way she was getting wet; she would definitely freeze alive if that happened. She recomposed herself huffily and dug out Stretch's pokeball. She tossed it into the air, mumbling, "this should be easy!"
The shinx in question was out of his spherical prison in a flash and bouncing around the bridge joyfully. He quite loved to stretch his muscles, and oh could he stretch them! Standing, however, was another matter entirely; it was much easier for the oddly boneless pokemon to hop.
"There, in the water! You see it? Thunder!"
It was not a very accurate attack, but it was the only one Riley was willing to let Stretch preform. In order to use bite or spark, the little shinx would need to be in the water with the magikarp, and she guessed he would not appreciate the cold.

<Karp, Karp, Karp!> The small orange fish-pokemon cried as it's body became attacked by the Shinx's Thunder Attack. Soon without saying another gulping word the fish Pokémon fainted.
Stretch gains one level!

"......ah." Her breath hung in the air briefly before dissapating. Well, that was much easier than she thought it would have been. After a moments thought, she lobbed an empty pokeball at the fainted fish Pokémon. She had heard somewhere that gyarados were rather powerful Pokémon.

A small blue ball had been curious to what was causing all the commotion as it stumbled across your path. What will you do.

Riley spotted the poliwag and rapped out a quick order. "Alright Stretch! Let's go, spark attack!"
Bounding around happily, the shinx leapt at the blue pokemon with an electrified tackle.

'Twould appear, quite oddly, that the Magikarp had faded into the sphere without a noise of belligerence -- simply disappeared, nary a quiver or a remnant of one marking its defiance. A ding resounded across the area instantaneously upon its entry into the sphere of crimson and ivory, and it was an instinctive assumption that this was the reason that its capture had not been marked by any ceremonious notability.
In that manner, the trainer, Riley, obtained the most peculiar and trivially useless-yet-not-so-useless Pokemon existant.
The Poliwag was struck by the electrical discharge of the lionesque 'canid', skidding backward upon one dainty foot. It blinked and goggled quizzically at Riley for a moment or so. It was being... attacked, per say? It took a rather long while for such an alarming fact to register properly in the more or less dense tadpole's mind, earning a decent chip of time to execute another attack if Riley so desired.

(....not to be demanding or anything, but could I get some stats plz? xD and holy wow your posts are delicious)
Riley glanced up briefly as the pokeball containing the magikarp was zapped back to her PC. Satisfied, she turned her attention back to the battle. "Try a bite this time, while it's distracted," suggested Riley, feeling no remorse for the poor, cofused Poliwag. Being a little dim witted herself, she was not quite aware that not everyone loved to fight...
Stretch hopped back over to the blue pokemon and tried to snap at it's wagging tail. However, the shinx had very weak physical attacks: if the bite attack connected, it wouldn't do much damage.

The Poliwag, being a slow, ditzy pokemon, only saw the attack coming at the last minute and couldn't avoid it. It tried running, but those two tiny legs could only carry it a few steps before it was abrubtly stopped by fangs on it's tail. "POLIWAG!!" It cried out, trying to shake the thing off of it patheticly. However, poor Poliwag was rather defensless at the moment, and hardly apple to deliver any attacks. This left it open for a good shocking, while the Shonx had a hold of it, perhaps a quick end, and a quick capture, and another level for the lionesque Pokemon? Perhaps..

Riley cheered for her pokemon. "Good! Now, while it's close, thunder!"
Shinx nodded happily and, with the blue pokemon's tail still in his teeth, unleashed a plethora of powerful electrical energy. Though thunder had very bad accuracy, the fact poliwag was in such close proximity made it more likely to hit.
(OMG short and horrible)

It hit the poor tadpole, and hit hard. It cried out for a while, once the attack ended, it ploped over and rolled for a minute, sizzling from the closeness of the attack. Obviously fainted and keeled over, it was simply up to the trainer to decide to capture now or not. (Mine sucks worse )

The trainer grinned at her pokemon's success. "Nice work, Stretch!" The shinx in question bounded around joyfully, growling with mock hubris. Riley turned away from his revelry briefly to glance down at the fainted poliwag. Should she catch it? She had never really been a fan of the small blue pokemon.
She dug through her bag for some sort of healing elixir, but could find none. ".... ah. Crap." With a slight sigh she tossed a pokeball at the tadpole pokemon. She intended to release it as soon as she had taken it to a pokemon center, though.
(stretch gets level yes?)

"Brrr," said a small voice, up ahead. "Brrr, brrrrrrrr."
What was it? An oddish, shaking from the cold! Poor thing.
"Brrr brrrrrrrrrrrrrr brrrr." Shut up brrring, Oddish. Oddishes do not brrrr.
Oddish frowned.

At first, Riley though it had be she herself brrring. But, as she looked away from the still shaking pokeball of poliwag, she saw the oddish. "Alright, Stretch," she began- and then she noticed it was shivering with the cold. Something clicked in her imensely small brain, and Riley gave a cry of distress.
"Oh! What are you doing out here in this weather?" Briefly, she recalled that her mother had taken in the plants whenever the weather was this cold. Did plant pokemon freeze like regular plants did? If so, this oddish was in trouble...
"Don't you have some place warmer to be?" Riley questioned, leaning down and attempting to scoop the brring pokemon into her arms to snuggle it and hopefully warm it up a little.
(...poliwag... catch or no?)

You have captured Poliwag.
Lv; 14 Attacks; Bubble, Tail Wag, ... serebii.
Oddish felt itself being scooped up by a bit of warmth, but it wasn't by much. It looked up. "Brrr," it said. Then, without any logical reasoning as far as the eye can see, it opened it's mouth and sank it's tiny little midget teeth into Riley's arm and jumped out of her dastardly clutches. "ODDISSSSHHHHH." Looks like it warms up from the HEAT OF BATTLE. Lordy.

(MADE ME LOL.)
Riley spluttered gibberish in surprise (as she often did when she was startled) and shook her arm wildly. "AGFHGADSFDSA! OKAY THAT really wasn't called for. YOU WANT TO BATTLEEEEEE? Oh, you'll see some action. YOU'LL SEE SOME ACTION. BRING IT. TO. Um. ...my shinx. Sorry Stretch."
The little shinx giggled to himself before launching a spark attack at the BATTLE WILD oddish.

The Oddish bounded to the ground and promptly stuck its tongue out and donned a disgusted visage, clearly remarking about the taste of Riley's hand or something else related to the matter. Smack talk was often the way to handle these great beasts, the Oddish had learned over the course of its life in the trees along the route. If you could fluster a human, it quickly lost focus and you could quickly scurry away into the underbush somewhere. Yes. Run away and hide from the mean old meanie who wanted to take you away from your home just because you were short, round, and adorable. This Oddish had no problem believing that it was adorable and even shook its leaves mockingly at the Shinx and its trainer, clearly noting that its milkshake did indeed bring all of the boy Oddish to the yard. And then something happened that it hadn't been expecting. The little blue cat thing ran toward it, fur standing on end and electricity popping about like gravel beneath its feet when it walked the road in the summer. Its eyes widened quickly and it squealed, "--DISH!"
Running toward the nearest tree, the Oddish swerved right randomly which resulted in the attack going into the bark of the tree and singing it dark black. But the Oddish, running around with its eyes closed, didn't quite witness this and ended up heading directly for the lion that had just attacked it. Accidentally, it released sweet, sweet pink pollen into the air (sometimes, it did this when it got nervous... hey, everyone had flaws and Oddish's inability to hold in its...pollen dust was just the way he'd been made) in a pale glittering cloud that settled over the immediate area and by the time it'd stopped running in circles around the little Shinx, it was breathing hard and feeling especially ready for a battle.
"Odd...odd..." Then it narrowed its eyes and began jumping up and down, leaves angrily shaking in some attempt to perhaps intimidate the human and its pet. And speaking of pets... it attempted to launch an absorb attack in a manner that was so obvious it was almost painful. Leaves moving back and forth like fingers beckoning the energy out of Shinx's body and eyes squinting in the effort, this little Oddish was one tough little thing... in its mind.
edit: removed typo.

(-didn't even notice the typo lol- ...i am envious of you. -exalt-)
Stretch had tried to follow the oddish, but only ended up ramming the tree and causing himself damage instead. Ouch. Hopping up and shaking his head, the shinx didn't even see the attack coming. Absorb hit, stealing a fair amount of energy from the poor boneless shinx. Swiftly, and without orders, Stretch repeated the spark attack, hoping the electrifying tackle would make contact with the oddish this time instead of a tree.
