[ standoffish • deceptive • astute ]
female
twelve
Appearance
Gleaming, pin-straight teal blue hair that reaches down to her mid back, almost always tied back into either a pony or bun. She has short bangs that fall to just above her eyelids - not shaggy, but not styled.
Like a Shedinja, Mercury lacks a visible iris - the iris and pupil as a whole is pitch black. Her whole eye is an ashen gray, and in the center is the inky black form of a pupil. They don't show much true emotion; mostly iron-hard determination or a masquerade of contentness.
The 'morph sports a short muddy brown dress with a large neck, and a slightly longer, moss green slip under. The whole dress reaches around her mid-thigh, and the slip dress's collar hits the girl's collarbone - not high and not low. The overdress, of sorts, is a rather grayish shade of brown, with a lighter shade of khaki that is the color of a thick stripe at the hem of the dress. The khaki-like hue is the same shade as that of a Shedinja's wings. The green dress's sleeves also peak out from under that of the brownish one.
Mercury wears forest green sneakers in no special brand or style, and striped knee-high stockings. The stripes are the same color as the main part of her brownish dress in a lighter and darker shade. They're just high enough to cover armor-like plates of a Shedinja's exoskeleton that have formed on her shins and the tops of her feet.
In addition to sheets of exoskeleton the girl developed over parts of her body, Mercury also recieved insect-like wings. Above her head floats a ghoulish half-halo found on the bug-type Shedinja, and her eyes are strangely dark.

What the hell is she?
Don't go near that girl - she'll hurt you.
What a freak...
Lines the girl had heard many times before. Statements that could scar one for life. Proclamations that were extremely rude, yet no one even thought to scorn the speaker when heard. One's heart must surely be broken upon hearing these time and time again.
But it was not. Instead, the girl's heart grew to be ice cold and steel hard. Every day was an act - something to hide how she really felt. Angst? No. Anger. Blind, swirling rage. She would never let anyone see it, though; her vexation was viewed as weakness. Every day passed by, and the rage only grew stronger and stronger. Scream and cry and kick she might, but only when she was alone, and it still wasn't enough. But showing anger was weakness. It was not to be seen.
So each day passed by, a blurr and as sharp as a black and white print, a content smile plastered to her pale face, which on the inside yearned for someone to understand. As time went on, however, her desire for someone else that could understand faded into nothingness.
But no one must see how I feel; no one. Can't let them see.
The words flowed through her mind every minute of every day. Words that kept her from exploding.
So how did it all begin? It was nothing special - Mercury never remebered, and is indifferent to her forgotten memories. Her parents tell her it was a mistake, but she knows it to be false. She was taken upon birth in her fragile condition. Any other child would've died, but somehow the doctors saved her. The plentiful doctors that leaned over her bed every single day, working feverishly on their latest project. Mercury was born with deadly leukemia. It was miraculous how well the treatment worked; no one had thought it would, but it did.
However, Mercury's life came with a price.
She was to live her life as an outcast, a reject. Doctors theorized that since Pokémon were seemingly immune to any sort of human cancer, an invasion of Pokémon cells would ward off tumors. Mercury's blood was transfused with that of a Shedinja daily, muscular and skeletal transplants taking place almost as often. Soon, her body became accustomed to the genetic material. It became part of her genome. The girl's body began to develop characteristics that were almost identical to the Shedinja's on it's own. The girl was cured of her cancer, but the effects of her treatment were to stay forever.
Her back sprouted wing-like limbs, and her torso was covered in iron-hard scaly armor found on that of the bug-type. The soles and palms of her hands and feet hardened into the same striped, armor-like material, and soon enough, a ghastly halo floated above her head.
Her parents never really minded, or at least they never showed that they did. They were overjoyed their daughter was alive, and tried to make the best of her childhood; covering her ears when people commented, adverting her gaze from those who couldn't help but stare, providing her with a good home. The real trouble came when she began school.
That was where she developed her 'hide it all' mindset. She was teased, stabbed in the back, but no one dared touch her. Stares, sarcasm - it was all diurnal. And she learned not to react. Insults back, tears of rage; it was all shunned. The teachers never punished the other students for their actions, only Mercury for her retorts and defensive behavior. The girl assumed it was the same story with all other pokemorphs, and learned to cope - rather, she was forced to cope, and aquired the ability quickly.
Her parents were more than willing to oblige in Mercury's requests for a Pokémon journey. Deep down, they thought it better for both her and themselves to have Mercury gone and forgotten.
That is where it stands today.
In Cheyenne.
Personality
[ I'm surrounded by idiots ]
I'm sure you've heard the line before; well, that very saying has run through the 'morph's head time and time again. No one ever knows, though - if she thought you dull, you'd never know. Mercury seldom makes her true opinions known.
[ Just smile and nod ]
People only want to hear compliments and flatterings. Criticism is useless coming from a pokemorph; no one takes her seriously if they aren't hearing what they want to. To keep from being utterly alone, one would need friends. And to find friends, you have to be pleasing - in other words, just smile and nod.
[ I refuse defeat ]
Not exactly a famous quote, but one must be original, no? There are not many things that Mercury requires for herself - sure, the basics like food, water, shelter, but there are other things. Things that keep her sanity from slipping away. One of those things is victory; good, truthful victory. She must have more points, higher grades, stronger pokemon; it's all part of the deal. And if the score doesn't coincide with her views, as long as she knew in her heart she won, then everything is fine.
[ Nothing is more deceptive than an obvious fact ]
Sherlock Holmes, anyone? It's almost uncanny how right he was. The obvious fact? Mercury was smarter, stronger, and faster than almost everyone in her school. So why was she never acknowladged for such achievements? Again, another obvious fact, but Mercury herself never truly understood. It was the one thing she never understood, and probably never will unless told.
