The Quick Attack was almost too much for Oberon to handle, and he staggered, his breath rapid and tired. He would need to be returned after this last move. If the Rattata didn't faint, Raptor, his Spearow, would be his only hope.
One last time, Oberon. Use Tackle!" He felt his own fists clench. He didn't want his Pokémon to get hurt too much, so he'd recall it after this attack. A lot was depending on the Mudkip's Whirlpool.
As he charged, Oberon felt the same determination as his Trainer. Eyes narrowed for one last attack, he lowered his head, blindly rampaging forward.

<Why, you!> Soaked, angry, but thoroughly exhausted, that last tackle proved too much for the purple-colored rodent. Though she lunged bravely for another attack, she didn't quite make it far enough before she stumbled forward, landing with a sickening noise in some extra-thick mud. It was as if the ground had decided to spite her by worsening the state of her fur even more. But she didn't try to get back up, and it was then clear who had been the winner of this battle.
Rattata has fainted. Attempt capture? Oberon gains +1 level!

Oberon, thoroughly exhausted, fell asleep on the spot, and with a small smile, Talis took his Pokeball from his belt, enlarged it, and returned the exhausted Mudkip with a flash of scarlet light.
"Nice one, Oberon," he said quietly. His heart was pounding. He didn't know what he had expected from this battle but it was the best possible result.
Now, to deal with the Rattata with an attitude. Taking out a second, empty Pokeball after putting the one containing Oberon away, he knelt beside the unconscious rat, stroking its soft purple fur to try and calm it down, before touching the Pokeball to Rattata, watching it get sucked in, then placing it on the ground, and waiting.

Unconscious, the Rattata could not feel the trainer running his fingers through her fur. In fact, the KO'd rodent couldn't feel much of anything until the ball sucked her into it's depths, bringing her to brief consciousness. What the heck was going on? She didn't want - but wait, did she have a choice? It didn't seem like it. The ball barely rocked when she tried to escape. Oh well. With a slight sigh, she resigned herself to the idea of her new life. She always had been the adaptive type, and she'd learn to live with it eventually. The Pokeball gave a soft ping, and she resigned herself to sleep.
You obtained a Rattata!

Picking up the Pokeball, Talis tucked it away in his belt, before taking out another Pokeball and releasing his Spearow, Raptor, who seemed happy to get out, fluttering madly all over the place on his tiny wings.
Talis smiled and held out his arm for him to perch on, which he did, as the two walked on. The next city was in plain sight now, but he just wanted one more Pokemon.
One more...

Not much activity ensued from then on, until Talis came near a tree with a few branches hanging over the beaten down dirt. Upon the boughs resided a pine - cone like pokemon that was surveying the ground below. Gruffly, he straightened his body, but this caused him to lose his balance and slide off of the slippery bark.
Gravity was not his friend - he plunged to the ground in front of Talis, an unceremonious crash greeting him as he met the dirty ground.

Raptor tilted his head to one side as the Pineco fell out of a tree. Talis winced as the painful, almighty crash sounded. That didn't look pleasant. He hoped the Pineco was alright.
Walking over to it and kneeling down, he put his hands on the flat part of a spike. "Are you OK?" he asked it.
Raptor hopped down from Talis' shoulder and regarded the Pineco through beady black eyes. It was odd to the Spearow's untravelled mind. But it was probably one of many new things he would encounter with Talis and Oberon.

Pineco gave a groan of pain as he sat up.. or whatever it is he did to regain his stature. Looking up at the human, he started. <Oh. Er. Well, I suppose I am.> He said, shaking his body to rid himself of the dust that had collected onto it during his unceremonious fall.
<If you don't mind, I'll be going.> He dismissed, turning and hopping into the trees. Trouble was something he didn't want to come across today - hence his surveillance of the route before.

Talis noted that the Pineco was quite cautious, and he could use someone of its type on the gym ahead, so he decided to use that to his advantage as he spoke.
"It's kinda dangerous around here. There are a few angry Rattata that would attack you just for touching them by accident." He was aware how odd it looked for him to be talking to the little pinecone but he persisted nontheless. "It... might be safer if you... travelled with us?"
Raptor cringed inwardly, his beady eyes scrunching up as he watched his Trainer try to coerce the Pineco into joining them.

The Pineco stopped his movements towards the trees. Turning back to face the trainer once more it looked skeptical. Leaning from one side to the other it seemed to be weighing it's options. <Well....> It started out but cut off soon after.
Maybe if you tried to convince it some more you could persuade it to come with you? Say too much however and it might be frightened away from the life of adventure so tread carefully.

It seemed to be slightly torn, but Talis had convinced it slightly. "It's always safe inside one of these." Talis pulled out a Pokeball and extended it, but not bringing it too close to the Pineco, so he wouldn't startle it.
Raptor decided that he should help his Trainer to convince the Pineco, and walked in front of it, again not getting too close so he didn't unnerve it. <Yup yup. It's true. And you'll meet this beautiful blue Pokemon. And it has the voice of an angel>

The Pineco frowned, still doubtful. When the trainer pulled out a Pokeball, he backed off quite a bit and eyed him with a critical sort of glare. <Is this some sort of plan to force me into your company?> he demanded accusingly, not too fond of the idea of being forced to live inside that ball. Heck, at least let him think about it first! Maybe then he'd decide what he really wanted!
Hmm... but it would be safer, that is, less dangerous, if he were to travel with a group. Blinking slowly, the pincone Pokemon weighed his options a little more. On mention of the blue Pokemon, he coughed slightly. <Excuse me?> What on Earth were they going on about? Why would he care if-
Abandoning that thought, he returned his consideration to the offer. <Angry rattata, you said?> He had to clarify what sort of dangers he would be encountering if he chose to leave the life of a trainer's Pokemon alone.

"Oh, sorry. Talis put the Pokeball away, then placed his hands on the ground in a gesture of submission. "I get too eager sometimes." He smiled warmly, and tried to relax his body a little so he didn't seem so tense.
<Yeah, the Rattata that hang around here attack people> Raptor sighed dramatically. <It's just not as safe here as it used to be. That's why I decided to go with this guy.>
Talis had no idea what his Spearow's cawing meant, but he hoped it would sway the Pineco into coming a little closer.

Pineco seemed a tad cautious at the man's words - they sounded creepy to the tense little pinecone pokemon. Although he was overcautious.
He turned his attention to the Spearow. Now that the bird mentioned it, he'd been in some rough situations with rattata before - but they hadn't bothered him enough for him to consider going with the likes of a trainer and pokemon. However, protection would be nice. <Umm. I suppose I could go with you.>
The mention of the blue angelic pokemon also interested him slightly, as well. What was it, anyway? Curiosity overwhelmed him. Quick, grab him while you still can!

Talis released Oberon, who was still looking a little tired, but healthy enough. "This is Oberon, my Mudkip." he said quietly, as the Mudkip smiled warmly at the fallen Pineco. "He can protect you."
Raptor hopped up to Talis' shoulder again so the Pineco didn't feel overcrowded, and Talis sent a smile the Pineco's way. "So, what do you say?" He was nervous. Almost at the Electric City, this would probably be the last Pokemon he would encounter in Route 1. He wanted to end it on a good note.

A Pokemon burst from the Pokeball. It was blue. Could it possibly the Pokemon with the angelic voice that they'd spoken of? Whatever it was, it certainly looked well cared-for, as did the Spearow. They didn't seem injured; perhaps a little tired, in the case of the Mudkip, but otherwise unharmed.
Nodding, the Pineco admitted defeat to his curiosity and fear. With the idea of a gang of Rattata swarming in his brain, the cone Pokemon decided that it would be much too dangerous to live alone on this route any longer. <Alright,> he decided, speaking quickly as if eager to get it over with, make it official already before something else interfered.
<But quickly!> he urged. <Before I change my mind!> And, well, also before a gang of those Rattata interfered. Plus, he wanted to hear the angelic-voiced Pokemon. As much as he denied it to himself, it was sort of true. They'd intrigued him.
::pineco:: Pineco has agreed to join you! Throw Pokeball?

Oberon turned to Talia and nodded silently. Taking it as a sign of agreement from the Pineco, he withdrew another Pokemon, and threw it at the Mudkip. Things were going well. A fourth Pokemon was going to join him.

Pineco fidgeted uncomfortably as Talis pulled out a Pokeball, admittedly a little nervous about letting the spherical object suck him into it's depths. Oh, if he wasn't desperate to stay away from those Rattata and meet the Pokemon with the voice of an angel... And then, suddenly, it was happening. He panicked immediately, the ball rocking with such violence that one would think it was going to break open. But once he realized what was happening, he forced himself to stay calm, wincing only slightly at the slight ping that signified a successful capture.
Well, at least he'd be safe?

Talis smiled brightly as the Pokeball pinged to signify a successful capture. He'd finally caught his fourth Pokemon. This had turned out to be a pretty successful first day. Picking up the Pokeball, he placed it in his belt. "Don't worry. I'll take good care of you," he murmured.
Now, the Electric City was in sight. It would be a great place for him to train his Pokemon and capture new ones. Placing his hands on the Pokeball that contained the tired Oberon, he said 'Don't worry Oberon, Anna. We'll get you to a Pokemon Center soon so that you can rest."
With that, he walked briskly towards the Electric City, Raptor flying rapidly ahead of him.
OOC: Finished.
