Despite her normal bubbly, happy mood, Kaera was a little nervous. As her father dropped her off and proudly patted her on the back, she felt butterflies fluttering around her stomach. Today she would get her first pokémon and begin training to become a trainer, to follow in the steps of her father... Instead of taking the worn path to the Lab to choose, she wanted to do something a little different, and took the trial toward the Ranger station. It would be random, she would have no real say in the selection of her pokémon, but there was a chance she could get something stronger or rarer than what could be chosen from the Lab. Even if she got one of the most common species of pokémon, she would love it the same as if it was rare.
Walking into the station, she looked around for someone, smiling yet still nervous.

"Come on Riley, you punch like a guy!"
The yell came from a female from inside the Ranger tent. If one went inside to investigate they would see an unusual sight. A female, short in size, probably around five feet tall was standing in a cleared out area. Tables and chairs pushed against the wall. Her hands were up, as if she was boxing and in front of her was a Pokémon looked much more impressive then she however, even if it was three inches shorter. In front of the female, who you could only guess was a ranger given the ranger outfit, was a Hitmonchan who looked at his trainer confused. <Punch like a boy? Well I am one....> Jordan, the ranger, couldn't help but laugh at her Pokémon. Apparently he didn't get the statement, though who would? Shouldn't the insult be "you punch like a girl"? Who knows. Dropping her hands, she waved at her Pokémon in a signal that the match was over and walked over to one of the moved tables to a bottle of water. Uncapping it, she chugged half of it as she leaned against the furniture. "Slow day today isn't it Riley. I haven't see a new hopeful trainer all da-" She stopped at she noticed movement pushing open the front tent flap revealing Keara. "Well what do you know. Speaking of newbies. Welcome to the Ranger Station Miss. I can only guess you're here for your first Pokémon?'

As she had been walking by one of the ranger tents, she noticed a short female ranger and her Hitmonchan. The pokémon looked impressive and strong, obviously well trained. She shyly stepped in, smiling to both of them. It appeared that they had been training, and although she didn't want to interrupt, it seemed they were eager someone to stop by. She smiled brightly to the pair and waved.
"Hi," She said after Jordan welcomed her to the Ranger station. Nodding to Jordans question, she said, " yeah, I am. First time and everything." with a giggle. "So... how does the Ranger Station work?"

Jordan grinned at the girl's hello. Thank heavens, a non-antisocial person. After hanging out with Ranger Bruce, aka "Batman", all day yesterday she'd welcome anyone with a mind to talk with open arms. Even if they talked too much. At the girl's question, she pushed herself off the table and walked off to one of the corners of the tent where a few boxes sat on a table. Grabbing a bag, she looked over her shoulder at the teen.
"The Ranger Station is pretty easy to understand. It's much like a lab, but I'll explain from the beginning just to make it easy."
Glancing back at the boxes, she began pulling a few objects out of them and into the paper bag in her hands. "Here at the Ranger Station, we, the rangers, help new hopeful trainers, like you, get your first Pokémon. Unlike a lab however we don't have a list of Pokémon for you to choose from. Here it's completely random to what you're gonna get. You get whatever Pokémon we find first however. So if we find a Magikarp first, you get that. It's the rules. We can't have people coming back complaining for a new Pokémon until they get one they like or something rare." At this point she was done with the items and was moving her way towards Kaera. Holding out the bag for the girl to take she continued where she left off. "We provide new trainers with a bag of essentials to help them start their journey, that's what this it. Back to before though. With that said, I'll take you out back and Riley here, my Hitmonchan, will weaken a Pokémon to which point I will hand you a pokeball for you to catch it with. I'll help you along too, just in case you don't know how to use a pokeball. In other words, I'll answer any questions along the way.
"Now, unless you have any questions before we start, follow Riley and I out back. Just be forewarned. I like roughing it when finding a pokemon, you find better Pokémon that way." She winked at the teen before slowly starting backwards towards the back flap of the tent. x 5 x 3

Kaera nodded and smiled as the ranger talked. It seemed easy enough. She understood what she would do, already knew how to use a pokéball and everything. She took the bag of starting items, casually looking into the bag to see what she would have while Jordan continued talking.
"No more questions from me, i'm all set to go," Kaera said, slinging the bag over her shoulder. She wouldn't mind roughing it. She was no little city girl and knew how to handle wilderness. She followed after Jordan to the back flap of the tent, eager to see which pokémon she would get. Even if it happened to be a magikarp.

Seeing how the teen had no questions, the trio left through the back flap, pausing only for Jordan to unlock the gate behind the flap and to lock it back. "To keep the pokemon out of the tent is all."
She was used to people asking why there was a gate and fence around the enclosure. Turning and looking at the many paths they could take, the ranger turned her head to Riley who pointed off path. This motion made the female grin larger then she had since Kaera had arrived and she turned once more to the girl. "Hope you like running." It was all warning she gave before the duo took off into the woods, granted it was more of a jog so that the girl could keep up but still. The woods however quickly took a more rocky feel to them, moving up as if on the base of a mountain. Stopping at a flat spot, the duo glanced back to see whether their newbie managed to stay with them or not. "Riley, go on ahead, we'll wait here." The fighting type said nothing and moved off into a deeper section of the woods, disappearing from the female's view.

Kaera followed, practically glowing as Jordan unlocked the gate. She nodded, understanding the gates meaning. She wouldn't particularly like if she woke up one morning with a drowzee getting into her belongings due to the lack of some form of barrier. As they approached the first set of paths, Kaera examined the forest. She could hear the chitters of bird pokémon and the rustling of bug pokémon in the brush. Riley the hitmonchan pointed off toward a path before Jordan gave a warning to a run. Before it had even clicked fully in her mind, the pair began to jog down the path.
'so this is what she ment by roughing it....' Kaera thought. She wasn't really in the mood for a work out, but a jog wouldn't kill her. She caught up to them and set a leisurely pace to keep up. Soon the forest terrain turned rocky and slanted upward, as if they were starting up a mountain. Kaera jogged with more caution, lifting her legs higher so she wouldn't trip over a loose rock and fall. At a flat area, Jordan stopped, Kaera following a few steps behind. Riley stopped, but went off when Jordan told him to go on ahead.
Kaera was grateful for the stop, realizing that despite her thin build, she wasn't exactly in shape. She took slow deep breaths, hands on her hips as she watched Riley take off into a darker, deeper part of the woods, out of their view. "Nice run." Kaera said with a smile, feeling a cool breeze.

Jordan couldn't help but laugh at the girl's appearance and comment. "Sorry, should of gave more of a warning. We can walk back if you want."
She looked over to where her pokemon left at before returning her gaze to Kaera. "But on another subject, that wasn't a run for us." She winked, giving the hint that they weren't really trying with the jog they had set. It would be after this comment that Riley returned. In his arms he carried a mass that could only be guessed at as a fainted pokemon. When he stepped out from between the trees and onto the flat section next to Jordan the mass could be better examined. It was a Phanpy. Jordan held out a pokeball to Kaera to take and us. "You know how to use it? If you do go ahead. It shouldn't be hard to catch in it's shape." ::phanpy::

Kaera laughed at Jordans comment. Well, if that wasn't a run for them, Kaera didn't want to find out what was. She was never the exercising type, but still, the jog had felt good, stretching her muscles and all. She considered the idea of walking back when Riley returned from his time in the deep woods, fainted Pokémon in his arms. Kaera tilted her head to see a bit of blue as he came forward. Stepping forward, she could see a little phanpy in his arms. She 'awe'd, unable to resist it. The phanpy was just so cute, even KO'd.
As she was nodded the pokeball, she nodded. She smiled at the phanpy and pushed the button to the ground pokémons head.

Jordan nodded when she saw the girl nod to her. It was a silent understanding that she knew how to operate a pokeball. Good. She wasn't stupid, she knew how to press a button.
The ranger watched as the pokeball's button glowed red for a few moments before stopping with a light 'click' noise. The Phanpy was caught.
::phanpy:: Level: 5 Attacks: Odor Sleuth, Tackle, Growl, Defense Curl
Jordan smiled to Riley and Kaera before motioning for them to head back. "At the Ranger's Station there a new pokemon restorer. You can heal up your Phanpy there before you go."

"M'kay," Kaera said with a bright smile. As the pokeball stood still in her hand, she felt a joy inside beyond compare. She had her own pokémon now, and she could now start her own journey! But first, off to the Ranger's Station to heal up Phapy. And think of a name while she walked.

As they walked down the slope and back into the more wooded part of the enclosure, Jordan couldn't help but hum. It was keeping her head off of running and training. 'The trainer comes first.' She thought but no matter how many times that ran through her head, the urge to run or challenge Riley to a race was killing her. 'Five more minutes... Five more minutes.'
It wasn't long before the group made it back to the gate, and after repeating the earlier process, all of them stood back inside. Apparently while they were gone though one of the other rangers had moved the tables back to their original spot. Groaning to herself, she turn to Kaera and pointed to the opposite corner that the boxes were. There stood a machine that had five rounded indents to place pokeballs. "There it is, go ahead and put the pokeball on there and then press start. Shouldn't take but ten seconds. Riley and I on the other hand have to move the tables back."
If Kaera hadn't stopped listening, she might have caught the under the breath comment of Jordan betting it was Bruce who had moved all the furniture back into place.
