Blinded by the sudden Flash made worse by the shroud of darkness provided by the canopy overhead, both Cleon, Pandora, and the Exeggcute were forced to squeeze their eyes shut in order to regain proper vision. Unable to see the incoming bug-type, the tackle his Pandora straight on, sending the Taillow to the ground. Screeching her annoyance, the feathered Pokemon glared daggers at the offender. Not waiting for a command, she growled at the bug-type, then regained her wings and zipped forward with a peck.
Cleon rubbed his eyes with his hands. He’d have to remember to shut them next time he heard that command. Flash was not fun for anyone involved, apparently. Seeing that Pandora was occupied, he turned to his Exeggcute, who were looking around at the various images of the male bug, still blinking stupidly. ”Exeggcute, use hypnosis on him, put the bug to sleep,” he called out. The eggs nodded, then each individual stared at a different image of Mister. Their eyes began glowing as the Hypnosis began. ::Taillow:: ::Exeggcute:: Pandora uses Growl, then Peck on Missus. Exeggcute uses Hypnosis on Mister.

* Mister uses Double Team + Dodges Hypnosis * Missus was hit by Growl and Peck. Uses Sweet Scent + Tackle on Pandora. Trainer Alice
"Double Trouble, Mister. Sweets and Pain, Missus." She called, making that second one up on the spot. She never did get far in her creative attack names for contests, but she liked being creative. Ok, well maybe that was her excuse to be lazy, but somehow she got by.
The Volbeat began to spread more clones around the field, some fusing with others to appear less faded than before. It was starting to get difficult discerning the real Volbeat from the fake one, and the Hypnosis was easily dodged. Albeit he was a gentleman, he couldn't help but chuckle in a raillery fashion, clearly amused that his Double Team was working so brilliantly.
Missus was having even more trouble, flinching and flying a bit backwards at the scary Growl attack. Her attack had been weakened, yes, and even worse that Taillow got a nasty Peck on her side before it went out of her reach. The Illumise let out a pained cry, holding her side as she looked at Mister pitifully. Then, she continued to let out another Sweet Scent onto the field, both getting close to the Exeggcute and the Taillow. Her main target was the agile Taillow, who she soon pursued with another, not so parlous Tackle attack.

That Double Team sure was something. Cleon gritted his teeth as he stared at the multitude of bug-types that seemed to swarm the field. He could make out the most solid individual for just a moment before it faded and he realized it was a fake. The egg-like Pokemon were having similar difficulties. Each was looking around, lost.
Pandora, her eyes still slightly out of focus from the Flash attack, was unable to dart out of the way of the tackle. This time, she flew back on purpose, flapping just above the Exeggcute, watching her trainer with narrowed eyes. She hadn't joined up with this trainer just so she could fight in front of him -- it was his fight, too! She wouldn't do everything on her own.
Catching his Pokemon's drift, Cleon nodded and shouted out his next instructions. "Both of you, focus on Missus. Uh... beak and smash?" His attempt to imitate the younger trainer's witty move nicknames did not go unnoticed.
<Smash? What the hell sort of move is that?> asked one of the eggs.
<Oh, shut up, you know what he means,> replied another, rolling her eyes before flinging herself at the female bug. The other head-like things followed suit, ready to pummel this insect to a pulp. Flying above the bouncing eggs, Pandora swooped in, ready to peck Missus from behind whilst she was being distracted by the Exeggcute. Though she said nothing, she was quite irritated with Cleon's behavior. Beak attack? She'd give him a beak attack later.
Pandora uses Peck on Missus. Exeggcute uses Barrage on Missus.

* Mister: Takes the Peck for Missus and uses Tackle on Pandora * Missus: Hit by Barrage and uses Tackle on Exeggcute Trainer Alice
"I see your Pokemon is having trouble. I was a little worried that it had Keen Eye, but now I'm safe." Alice grinned when the Taillow appeared confused with all of the accuracy lowering and evasion raising attacks going around. Even their evasion was going down, and according to her Scout Leader, it made them take attacks like dummies. She had to sell a bunch of cookies in order to earn enough for that Flash TM. 10,000 PD, go figure.
"Beak and Smash? Sounds scary." The girl gasped, looking at his Pokemon to see what the command meant. Beak was a bit obvious, seeing the Taillow charge forth at Missus with a beak aimed right at her. She would've told Missus to dodge it if Mister hadn't acted first, retreating from the safety of his clones to take the hit for Missus.
"Ah! Mister!" She cried, watching the Volbeat fly unsteadily in the air from that super effective hit. Twice the damage of a normal attack, and he kid you not, it hurt. It wouldn't be long before he went down. Missus was soon hit by a series of Barrage attacks from the Exeggcute, getting hit about 3 times. She yelped pitifully at the first attack, paying too much attention to Mister's wounds to realize the danger she was in.
"Ok! Twin Tackle!" She called, making yet another fancy combo name on the spot, pointing at the the two bugs. The nodded and split up, both taking on the target that last attacked them.

Keen Eye? Cleon was embarrassed to admit to himself that he had no idea what the girl was talking about. Was that a special move? Ability? He was getting told by a child, in any case, and he was never very fond of that at home -- why should he in this situation? In any case, she had gotten the better of him in terms of Pokemon knowledge. He just needed to grasp the upper hand in the fight. His Pokemon could do it; he had faith in them. Seeing Mister take the hit for his companion, Cleon grinned. That was it.
Twin tackle? The attack was obvious, and Mister was currently quite obviously distinguished from his clones after taking the vicious peck attack. Therefore, only the targets of the tackle were unknown to both Exeggcute and Taillow as they readied their dodges. Taillow deftly swooped out of the way, though went too wide as to give the bug-type a peck as he passed. The eggs were not quite so agile; most of them were knocked backwards and into the dirt from the attack. Groaning, they regrouped and looked to Cleon.
”Focus your attacks on the Illumise, all of you! Focus Energy and Peck, Barrage. Go!” Even if the attacks failed to hit the intended target, it was possible that the Volbeat would dart in the way. Plus, the Illumise was easier to hit, lacking all those copies. Get her out of the way. Then focus on the male.
Screeching as she gained power, Pandora spun around from her dodge and went spiraling down to dive bomb Missus with a peck. Simultaneously, the eggs began throwing themselves, yet again, towards the Illumise.
::taillow:: ::exeggcute:: Pandora used Focus Energy, then Peck on Missus. Exeggcute used Barrage on Missus.

* Mister: Takes the Peck and Barrage for Missus. Has fained. (Pandora and Exeggcute gain .5 levels) * Missus: Uses Tackle on Pandora Trainer Alice
"Whoa whoa whoa. Missus, you gotta dodge this." Alice said, shocked that they were both ganging up on Missus again. Knowing Mister's protective nature over the Illumise, it was no surprise to her that the Volbeat was going to do something reckless and stupid. Sure enough, as the Illumise was trying to avoid the severe looking Peck attack, Mister had boldly pushed her out of the way of both attacks, resulting in him taking both moves and going down.
<You idiot.> Missus whispered, her face flushed with embarrassment when she realized what the Volbeat had done for her. The sentiment had been nice, she realized, but didn't see it as necessary. Alice recalled the Volbeat into his Pokeball, despite the sparks that crackled on the outside of the sphere.
"Um. Tackle the Taillow." Alice sighed, a bit too tired and weary now. Emotional exhaustion, maybe? Her mom said that she often felt that when her mom was talking with Daddy. Suddenly she realized what it meant. Missus charged boldly at the Taillow, even though she was aware of the dangerous beak it possessed.

It wasn't a surprise to see Mister dive in front of the attacks, but Cleon hadn't expected him to go down right away. Must be thanks to Pandora's attacks; bug-types really weren't made to fight against birds. It almost didn't seem fair. Seeing his opponent's downtrodden face, Cleon wasn't even certain that he wanted to continue this match. She, however, had challenged him. He was not going to risk insulting her by suggesting they end the match prematurely. It was her job to concede defeat, not his to force it upon her. He wouldn't want someone to do that to him.
"Peck it as it gets close, Pandora!" Cleon called out as he saw Missus head towards the Taillow. Pandora, who had been planning on dodging the attack, rushed forward to accept it, feeling the heavy body crash against hers painfully. However, such close quarters enabled her easy access for a peck should the Illumise not flit out of the way almost immediately. Unfortunately for Pandora, there was still a pleasant scent lingering around the female insect that may give the bug time to escape her sharp beak.
"Exeggcute, start an uproar, if you don't mind?" Cleon added. He foolishly did not plug his ears as the eggs complied; each individual head-like creature began screeching and yelling in a dreadful song, bouncing up and down, occasionally thrashing towards Missus in an attempt to hit her, throw her off balance, toss her to the ground so the uproar could continue at a closer range.
::taillow:: ::exeggcute:: Pandora used Peck. Exeggcute used Uproar.

* Missus: Hit by Tackle and Uproar. * Missus has fainted. Pandora and Exeggcute gain .5 levels. Trainer Alice
The barrage of attacks without Mister's help made Missus feel more than overwhelmed, crying out in pain as the Peck struck her side, the Illumise lowered to the ground, only getting attacked by a mod of eggs. She weakened more and more until she crashed into the ground, clearly out of breathe and taking way more damage than she had expected.
"Ah! Not Missus!" Alice cried, upset that Mister had forfended her when he did. It was foolish, and he needed to learn how to listen, but he was still Mister. She sighed, seeing her defeat as plain as the sun in the sky. Earlier she had been so cheerful, agog at the idea of selling a bunch of awesome cookies and getting a big pile of quarters.
Now? She had to give away a cookie. For free. She sighed again, trying hard not to cry as she recalled Missus into her Pokeball. She cast a pitiful look onto Cleon as she reached into the cookie box, pulling out a GIANT sugar cookie. All for him. mmmmm.

Grinning widely, Cleon accepted the cookie from the young trainer once he had returned the victorious Pokemon; he saw a few sparks emit from the Pokeballs, and his smile faltered slightly. The sugary snack, however, drew his attention back to Alice. He held out his free hand to shake her small hand. ”Mister and Missus fought well.” Cleon took a bite of the cookie. ”And this is delicious, thanks,” he mumbled through a mouthful of crumbs. ”You’ll sell some, don’t worry. I haven’t seen many trainers out this way, though, so you may want to try elsewhere,” Cleon continued after swallowing, trying to help the disappointed girl as much as possible before they parted ways.
After accepting Alice’s handshake, should she take his palm within her own, he broke off a bit of cookie and offered it to the Hoppip still clinging to his leg.

Agog at the Trainer's generous offer, Hoppip took the piece of cookie with a smile. This Trainer was so malleable, a quality Hoppip had to admire. From the savage battler that forfended casual conversation, to a generous person who shared food with a Pokemon, Hoppip respected his new companion. It seemed that the scuttlebutt about Trainers wasn't all true. In fact, Hoppip found himself rather attracted to the life of the tame Pokemon. >...Um... do you have room for one more in your team?< he asked uncertainly, scooting his foot shyly on the dusty ground, not quite meeting the Trainer's eyes for fear of rejection. ::hoppip:: Hoppip wants to join you.

Bidding farewell to Alice, who scooted off on her dreary way, Cleon turned his attention to the small Hoppip at his side. He had not expected the small creature to want to accompany him; it was a pleasant surprise. How could he decline, seeing those small eager eyes avoiding his own gaze. They might not run into the Hoppip’s family, anyway, and what would the small grass-type do, then? It would be safer with Cleon.
”Of course I do, and I would love for you to be part of my team,” Cleon said to the small creature, smiling broadly. He knelt down so that he was level with the Hoppip and drew out an empty Pokeball. This particular sphere did not show any sign of malfunction, oddly enough, until he tapped the Hoppip gently on the noggin. Then, it sparked once as the Hoppip was absorbed. Cleon frowned, worried, as he held the poke ball in his calloused hand, waiting to see the result.
ooc|| Pardon the small amount of gm-ing with Alice; I figured that since the last mod didn't mention her that she wouldn't be coming back. I wanted her to actually leave as opposed to just... vanish.

The Hoppip let himself be sucked into the Pokeball. The sparks he passed hurt slightly but nothing awful. It was time to start his new life as a captive Pokemon. Maybe he'll get stronger!

With a smile, Cleon clipped the now filled Pokeball onto his belt. For a moment, he stayed where he was, kneeling at the edge of the trees next to the lake. His purpose had left him, so content was he. So many friends he’d made already, so many battles fought. And now a moment of peace. And slight forgetfulness, as he didn’t exactly recall what he’d come in the woods for. Then, at his feet, he saw the two long sticks he had collected for his tent. Ah, right! Gathering them in his arms, he strode back to his backpack, untouched by the shore of the small lake.
Setting up his tent was a simple task, though the result was anything but impressive. Two small holes in the ground provided places to hold the sticks in place. Using a rope from his bag, he tied the two sticks together, then threw the ratty cloth over the rope. It was large enough to keep him covered, but not effective for anything else. Honestly, he probably didn’t even need it.
Finishing his masterpiece, Cleon flopped down and lay sprawled on his back, looking up at the darkening sky with a contented sigh. Life was good. Calm, peaceful, and quiet. But at the same time, should something come to ruin this serenity, excitement made everything even better.

Quinn Delessin stumbleld through the woods, Helix the Shuppet floating messily in front of her. "Dammit, Helix! It's getting dark, how can you not get us out of here?" She sighed, pushing back supple branches and snapping foliage out of her way as she stepped uncertainly through the greenery. The Shuppet just gave a cocky twirl before continuing. Quinn was a bit of a mess; her left cheek had been slashed by a sharp leaf earlier on, and her leggings were ripped to shreds from different plants. Finally spotting something other than a tree, Quinn teared herself towards it, despite Helix's protests... A tent! A tent! Salvation, finally, after this long, lost ramble through the woods. It was then that Quinn's blue eyes fell on the owner, lying on his back staring up at the sky; Cleon. "Cleon?!" Quinn gasped in awe. Out of all the people she could have come across tonight, it was her rival. Just her luck...

Cleon had heard rustling trees for quite some time, and voices; he knew there was a human wandering about the area. He was, however, shocked to hear the trainer utter his name. He craned his neck backwards and stared at the girl. "Quinn? Fancy seeing you here" He leaned upwards, then twirled on his rump to face her, grinning widely. "Care to enjoy the sunset with me?" It wasn't said sarcastically, and the way the sun was sinking down behind the trees, reflecting quite nicely in the small pond, was stunning, but it was still not an entirely serious suggestion.

Quinn, looking tired and slightly injured from the battering the forest gave her, raised an eyebrow skeptically. Watch the sunset? They weren't friends, nor were they in a relationship ... well, they were sort of friends. Just the competitive types. The blonde didn't have the energy to quizz Cleon on his ulterior motives, and instead decided to go with the flow, play him at his own game; "Sure, it looks lovely." She replied weakly, fidgeting with her t-shirt and sitting beside the boy. Helix, quite content in playing with himself, found a nicely-shaped rock to marvel at, and twirled around it enthusiastically.

Cleon laughed; Quinn seemed quite tired. He wondered how long she'd been moving through the forest, unable to find her way out. It was really quite lucky for Cleon that he kept running into helpful Pokemon. If the Exeggcute as a whole could be considered helpful, at least. But in any case, he hadn't gotten in a state of stress once during his time on Route One. Nor had he gotten attacked by a feral leaf, as had his friendly rival.
"Get in a fight back there?" he asked, nodding to the cut on her face. "Afraid I don't have a bandage or anything for it, unless you want me to give you another potion." His words may have been slightly flirtatious, but that was not his intention in the least. Quinn looked so uptight; letting her chill a bit might make her feel better. Maybe a rematch...? Cleon glanced at Helix; he seemed chipper enough with life. He'd wait before popping the question.

Quinn kept her eyes on the sunset as Cleon spoke - it was quite pretty. Lots of pinks and reds and purples and blues... a relaxing rainbow that seemed to soothe the uncomfortable scratches she'd suffered in some way. When Cleon made a Cleon-ish remark about the gash on her cheek, she touched it tenderly; it stung, but it wasn't too deep; it'd be fine if she just let it heal naturally. That didn't stop it stinging like a bitch, though. "Oh, it's fine. I sorta... well, this sounds really stupid, but it wasn't even a fight. I just went through this muddly patch and a tree branch came out of nowhere and slashed my cheek!" She said, still sounding totally shattered, yet amused at the same time. "If it gets bad I'll rip a trouser leg or a top in half and use that as a bandage." A ghost of a smile flashed across her features; was Cleon flirting with her? The silly boy; he was naively sweet sometimes, in a way. He looked at Helix; Quinn caught his eyes flash. She knew that flash - he wanted to battle - soon, anyways. Smiling, she laid down on her back to gaze up at the sky. If he wanted to battle, she wasn't just gonna play into his hands - he'd have to ask for it, like a polite gentleman!

Cleon couldn’t help but laugh in what he hoped was a good-natured manner as he heard what happened. He had almost expected a grand tale blown out of proportion, as his siblings might have told. A fight with a Sandslash, maybe, or wrestling with an Arbok. Quinn really was too honest; he was the same way, he supposed. “You can always use part of my tent, too,” he said, nodding towards the dreadful blanket-like thing he had put together. It really was the last thing anyone would want to keep them warm, let alone covering a wound on one’s face. Cleon examined the dirty, torn up fabric that had seen far too many days and thought better of his offer. He really didn’t want to get the wound infected. Quinn might not appreciate that. ”Actually, maybe not.”
He lay back, too, imitating his friend and rival, watching the sky gradually darken. Every so often, Helix would float overhead, and Cleon couldn’t help but feel taunted by the critter. He shifted, then decided to bring out Target, his Poliwag. He poked the center of the Pokeball containing the water type, then watched as he squeaked with joy and plunged into the pond to swim around. ”So aside from losing fights with trees, how have you and Helix been?”

The slightly chilly wind that usually came with evenings at this time of year was incredibly soothing for Quinn's cheek; it was almost numbing the wound. At Cleon's offer, she too glanced at his tent - it was old and looked quite manky, to be brutally honest. She was formulating a polite way to decline in her mind before Cleon retracted the offer, obviously knowing it wouldn't be the best idea. Out of the corner of her eye, the shape of her rival slumped down, and she heard a thud as he dumped himself onto his back beside her. She, too, noticed Helix being annoying; raising her eyebrow in contempt at the Shuppet, she scolded him. "Don't make Cleon uncomfortable, Helix! What have I told you about doing that?" The mischief maker's favourite hobby was to unnerve people, and damn, had she tried to remove it. Helix wouldn't be deterred for anything, though; thankfully, though, his attention was diverted to the Poliwag when it was released. Quinn didn't remember the Poliwag from before - last time, they'd battled Prometheus, Cleon's Zubat. The Poliwag might make for an interesting competitor... "Very funny!" She chuckled, once again imagining herself "losing" a fight with a tree. Damn, it looked ridiculous in her head. "Oh, not much. Helix has got a little stronger." Quinn's eyes twinkled as she said the sentence; it was a tease, a little scrap of bait for Cleon to catch and cling to, and make him itch for battle. He'd crack soon; he always loved a good battle.
