"La Première Route: Route 1," she spoke softly as she read off the sign. Audrey wasn't exactly sure on the length of the route, though that didn't really matter much. It's not like she would be able to get her first badge in a few days. Plus, she had to train Spiritomb and possibly catch some other pokemon to strengthen her party. But even then, she would have to train them as well so she figured she might as well take her time.
She didn't dare bring Spiritomb out for fear of frightening away any wild pokemon who might be in her proximity. He didn't look like the most welcoming and friendly pokemon around, although she was sure there were more frightening pokemon lurking somewhere. Though it would be dull and boring without the company, it was worth the chance of encountering another pokemon.
Audrey started down the road quietly with Spiritomb's pokeball still held in her hand. She thought it would be much easier to have it easily accessible rather than placed in her bag or at her side. This way, she would be much quicker to let him out. Although, she couldn't help but feel some sort of loneliness. It was so quiet and seemingly empty. The only sounds she happened to hear was that of far off bird pokemon chatting amongst themselves. She groaned faintly, shifted the weight of her bag, and continued walking down the path hoping she would at least catch a glimpse of a wild pokemon.

A lonesome Oddish trotted down the route, looking for a place to sleep for the day. As a nocturnal creature, she generally slept peacefully underground during the day, her weed like hair the only part visible to anyone who passed by. She needed to find a place where the moon would reach her to reinvigorate her floral body and wake her from her sleep. But it couldn't be too open or she'd be picked off by a foraging Sentret or a keen eyed bird. As she reached a smallclearing, she tested the strength of the soil with her feet, while glancing up at the sun with the corner of one eye. It would do for tonight, seeing as she hadn't reached the general Oddish nesting ground in time and had been kicked out to find somewhere else to sleep for the day. Digging up mounds of dirt as she ripped out the ground to plant herself, she didn't notice anyone approaching. Silly Oddish. She was so desperate for a place to sleep that she didn't keep an eye out for the humans Pokemon tended to fear. ::oddish::

Before long, Audrey happened to spot a lone Oddish in the distance. She thought it would be best if she kept Spiritomb in the pokeball until she got just a little closer to the small bulb-like Pokémon. It was, in fact, more focused on digging a hole to even notice her as she carefully approached it. With each step closer to it, the more she wanted to just throw a pokeball at it but she knew that would be a foolish mistake to make.
She thought back to what her father was telling her before she left. "Weaken it." He seemed to put so much emphasis on that. She tightened her grip on her occupied pokeball before throwing it in the air. She watched as it opened up to let its contents loose in a shimmering beam of celestial-like light. However, she didn't say anything as her Pokémon finally appeared. Instead, she watched it hover there for a few seconds before deciding what move it should use.
"Spiritomb, use Shadow Sneak," she said in a slightly shaky voice. It was unlike her to be nervous since she was usually calm about everything, but it was her first battle against anything. Plus, it was her first time encountering a wild Pokémon by herself. She hoped it wouldn't be too difficult of a battle seeing as her only Pokémon was her starter.
"Speear..." moaned Spiritomb as he launched his attack. Though it seemed much more malevolent, it was a basic variation of the more common and easily identifiable Quick Attack. He gained speed as he rushed through the air with a shadowy light trailing behind him. He aimed himself towards the much smaller Oddish while Audrey watched from a few feet behind them.

::oddish:: Pokemon battle ! Oddish was slowly coaxing her body into the hole she'd just dug when she saw a sudden movement to the side of her. Raising her head to see just what was happening, the plant fluids flowing through her ran cold. What was the thing coming toward her? The face, so demonic and vile, that it wore chilled her to the bone and even rendered her unable to move. Shadow Sneak struck true, square in the most vulnerable part of her back.
The small, blue plant gave a cry of agony as the pain stabbed through her. What had she done to anger this spirit? She didn't know, but it was up to her to fight back and save herself.
Whirling around, the weed lashed her vines at the ghostly figure and attempted to reap whatever energy she could from this dastardly foe.
Oddish was hit by Shadow Sneak. Oddish used Absorb on Spiritomb.

"Speearr..." Spiritomb moaned as his energy was sapped from his gaseous body. He floated back a few feet, nearly bumping into his trainer. Audrey took a few steps back to avoid any collision. It seemed like a stand off between the two opposing sides. Audrey was intensely focused on the Oddish, trying to think of what to do next, while Spiritomb blankly stared down the small bulb.
"Spiritomb," Audrey started, however, pausing to finalize her decision, "use Confuse Ray!" The ghost's eyes, or where its eyes would appear to be, glowed a vibrant purple hue. Being a new trainer was proving more of a tactical job than what she originally thought. So much thinking and planning had to be put behind each move, which Audrey was struggling at trying to do.
However, she kept her faith in her Pokémon. She knew, or rather believed, that he was going to win this fight for her. Though, she knew he couldn't win every fight they were up against. She would need other pokemon, like the Oddish for example. Audrey silently contemplated whether she wanted to capture the Oddish or not. She wasn't all that comfortable with only sticking with Spiritomb for the time being, especially since he would be tired after this battle was over.

Oddish blinked as the purple light surged through the air like a distorted aurora, enveloping her in its thrall, addling her mind and causing several hallucinations to materialize and scare her out of her mind, including a bushfire and several angry looking Swellow who wanted to devour her. The images temporarily vanished as she focussed on releasing a sickly sweet scent from the weeds atop her head, permeatig the air with pink gas tinted with white shimmering crystals of light to lower the Spiritomb's evasion and make it easier to hit. That done, Oddish closed her eyes and sent out another Absorb, this time in the form of a trio of green and yellow orbs as an alternative to the short range vine equivalent. It seemed like, though effective at first, Confuse Ray's hallucinations quickly wore off. And just as quickly as it was brushed off, Oddish was already making its next move. The first being Sweet Scent, which left a relaxing aroma in the air. Spiritbomb floated calmly in the air much like a puffy, white cloud in the blue summer sky. Its second move was in the form of Absorb which sapped more precious energy from the ghost.
"Damn," Audrey whispered under her breath. She wasn't sure how much longer Spiritomb could carry on, but she was sure Oddish could continue for quite some time as long as it kept using Absorb. She needed to end this soon, but how? "Use Spite then Shadow Sneak again," she said. Spiritomb let out a loud screech full of what sounded like ill will towards the plant pokemon right before zooming towards it.

The Oddish was thrown back from the Shadow Sneak. Her body was tumbling until she hit a rock and stopped. She got up to her feet and shook herself.
She sent a Sweet Scent into the air, atemping to lure the ghost Pokemon towards her. The pink scent drifted towards the Pokemon, a soothing scent which could make you come towards if you had a good wiff of it.
She then started using Absorb. Trying to suck the energy out of the Pokemon, her vines went out and atemped to grab it and take what ever energy she could.

Just as Shadow Sneak hit, Spiritomb felt his strength leaving him. Audrey could tell that he was weakening by the way his movements slowed down. "Come on," she thought, cheering him on to herself. "Just a little longer." She quickly decided what to do next, but right before she could tell her Pokémon what move to use, Oddish used Sweet Scent again. This time it drew Spiritomb closer like a bee to a flower. He gradually got closer until the absorbing vines of the Oddish grabbed onto him.
He cried in a ghostly manner as he slowly descended. His strength was leaving him slowly. Audrey knew she couldn't just sit there and wait for it to be over. "Quick! Use Shadow Sneak again!" she yelled. With the rest of his remaining energy, he threw himself at the wild Pokémon. His movements were slower now, due to having his energy sucked from him. Even if he managed to somehow hit the Oddish, he still couldn't last long enough to attack again. It was a last ditch effort to beat their opponent.

Oddish was hit by the Shadow Sneak and thrown back by the sheer power of the Ghost Type's strike as her confusion continued, hitting the ground with a small >Ooomph<As she stood up, the world spun, partly because of her bump on the head and partly due to the effects of the Confuse Ray that still perplexed her young mind. Running forward to use Absorb on one of the many Spiritomb's that still floated around her hallucinations, she instead ran head first into a tree. Stars exploded in her vision as she toppled over. She never even knew she had fainted. ::oddish:: Oddish has fainted. Spiritomb gains a level.

In some odd turn of events, Spiritomb's attack sent the little Oddish flying back. The ghost drowsily floated backwards to stop in front of his trainer. He was barely even floating, instead, he was more along the lines of scooting across the ground. Audrey thought the battle was over and that she had lost as she watched her pokemon struggle just to keep itself afloat while the Oddish got itself back on its feet. However, it did not aim its next attack towards them. It seemed to rush forwards, stretching the vines of Absorb towards an unseen enemy, before ramming itself into a tree. As it collapsed, she anticipated it to spring back to its feet though it laid there motionless on the ground.
Audrey brought her hands together in front of her mouth to muffle her small laugh of happiness. She had just won against her first opponent, though it was just a wild pokemon. Although she wanted to just keep going down the route, she didn't want to leave the Oddish there and vulnerable. She did, in fact, put time and effort into beating it. Audrey reached into her bag and pulled out one of the pokeballs she received when she got Spiritomb. Enlarging it to its full size, she aimed and threw it at the pokemon. She may not know much about battling and training just yet, but she did know that a pokemon that fainted is much easier to catch.

Oddish was shocked into consciousness by the suddenly sparking Pokeball. The black confines were laced with blue and golden electricity, rushing over Oddish's body like wildfire, singing the green weeds atop her head. Struggling valiantly, with the aid of the malfunctioning Pokeball, Oddish broke free of the Pokeball that had not only restrained her, but tortured her. The Pokeball had discharged all of its electricity, and was now all but unusable as it lay beside the Oddish, no longer able to sense the touch of Pokemon DNA. The Oddish had briefly regained consciousness while inside the painful Pokeball prison, but she now lay on the dusty route, totally unconscious once more. Perhaps a second try would yield better results? ::oddish:: Oddish has escaped the Pokeball. Try again? [/I]

Her patience quickly dissipated as the Oddish broke free. "Really," she thought. The blackout was proving to be more of an inconvenience than she previously thought. Audrey was just fine, though annoyed, with having to go to the Ranger Station but having to use two pokeballs on one little pokemon was making her more and more aggravated.
"Let's try this again," she muttered. She grabbed another ball, this time taking greater care of it, and walked up to the Oddish. Audrey bent down as well as she could in her dress and lightly tapped the small pokemon on the side. Of course if this one didn't work, that means she just wasted two pokeballs. "Please work," she pleaded silently to the pokeball.

Maybe the second time was the charm? The Pokeball sucked the Oddish into it's grip once more. With sounds heard and a few sparks flying from the Pokeball it was trying to catch it.
The Oddish really had no energy left, it was over, done, bye bye freedom.
The Pokeball finally let out a loud 'click' and stopped moving.

"Finally," Audrey said breathlessly. She had been holding her breath subconsciously in anticipation as she watched the ball rock back and forth before finally coming to a stop. She went over, tossing the old pokeball to the side, and retrieving her new pokemon. Like her Spiritomb, she chose not to nickname it seeing that it was much easier for it rather than try and get it to remember its new name.
She looked back at Spiritomb who wasn't looking that great. The tiring battle took a lot out of him and left him weary and barely able to keep himself off the ground. Attaching the pokeball to nearly indistinguishable belt around her waist, Audrey pulled a potion from her bag. She should of done this much sooner, although, she didn't have a lot of chances to do so. She quickly sprayed it on Spiritomb who immediately perked up. His strength, or at least some of it, had returned.
Audrey briefly smiled before turning and continuing on, this time leaving him out. She felt more confident having caught her first pokemon but now was not the time to celebrate. She was still in the middle of the wilderness which teemed with life, though hidden. Spiritomb floated a bit behind her, occasionally moaning in his ghastly way.

A pair of Sunkern hopped along. Talking with each other.
<A nice day, isn't it?> <I agree.> <I hope it doesn't rain.> <that'd be bad.> <I know it would, lets hop!> <Yes, lets!>
The two hopped along happily. Each going up and down, talking until they saw.....a ghost!
<EEEPPP!> one of the Sunkern fainted from the sight. What a scary Pokemon! The other stood, frozen in fear.

Audrey couldn't be more confused. The little sunkern pair seemed to be truly terrified after taking on look in her direction. She was sure she didn't look that horrifying, although, they were just little seeds to begin with. Anything could be seen as a frightening monster to them. She thought long as hard as the one laid motionless on the ground and the other stood frozen in fear before she actually realized why they reacted the way they did.
"Oh, that's right," she thought as she turned towards Spiritomb. It did make more sense now. It was for this very reason why she didn't want him out earlier. "Sorry to do this," she said towards the ghost pokemon, "but return." As he was sucked into his pokeball, Audrey kept her eye on the little seeds. She was rather bored, and she guessed they couldn't be too much of a threat to her by herself.
She latched Spiritomb's ball onto her belt beside Oddish's, checking to make sure that it was secured tightly. Audrey knelt down right in the middle of the road and held one of her hands out in a nonthreatening manner. She had seen this work with other small pokemon like Sentret, so why couldn't it work with Sunkern? She hoped she would be able to coax them over, well, at least the one who was still conscious.

<Um. Um. Um.> The Sunkern stared up at the human in fright until she actually returned the demon that came straight from hell. Did she just save them, or was this some type of black magic being used on him? Trembling, the Sunkern wasn't sure if he should be thankful or afraid of this magical person.
She certainly appeared kind, trying to lure him over to her with a kind expression, but he wasn't that gullible. No, first he wanted to make sure his friend was ok. He slowly backed away, only to try and nudge his friend awake. The other Sunkern's eyes slowly cracked open, just barely gaining back his conscience.
<The t-thing is gone.> The awake on responded in a hushed whisper, as if to try and bring some comfort for his friend. He wasn't sure if the other Sunkern heard or not, because it instantly re-fainted. Lovely.

"It's okay," Audrey said in the most calming way she could. If they weren't so skittish, she could try and gain their trust through the use of one of her other pokemon. But seeing as they were even wary of her, she doubted that they would feel safer around anything. She looked around for something to try and coax it over to her as the one still standing went over to check on his unconscious friend.
"Maybe," she muttered as she looked towards a small bracelet she wore on her wrist. It wasn't quality made since she made it by hand but it did give her an idea. Quickly she took it off and held it in front of her, dangling it just so the two small wooden charms lightly hit each other. Some pokemon might see it as boring but she hoped the little Sunkern thought differently and viewed it as interesting enough to come a little closer.

<Shiny.> The Sunkern whispered, attracted to the beads that dangled off of her bracelet. The way the sun sparkled on it, making them shine in different colors was unlike anything he had ever seen before. Black magic or not, he wanted to get another look. Slowly, he approached the trainer, tilting his head to the side curiously while his friend lay unconscious.
He had enough trust in the area that nothing would attack his frightened friend, at least, he thought he did. This was simply a matter of not thinking straight. Finally, he was within arms reach of the girl, only because he was so fascinated with the strange object.
