Startling golden eyes stared at the sky above, watching as lazy white puffy clouds drifted in the still dark sky. The sun was barely above the horizon, it's rays not yet touching the earth, but already illuminating the clouds, giving them a soft golden glow. It was a superb sight that made Jae stop in her tracks. Although her feelings for human beings could be described as simply non-existent, she was easily shaken by nature's beauty.
The breeze made her equally golden hair dance and chilled her skin, but she didn't seem to mind. Actually, she just smiled softly, her usually cold eyes losing some of their cutting edge. Her hand grabbed a white and red sphere and she bit her low lip as she pondered whether she should release the Pokemon within it or not.
Suddenly, the Pokeball opened and out came a blue turtle, his eyes immediately finding Jae and glaring at her. Needless to say, he didn't look very happy. Then again, neither did Jae.
The girl glared at her starter, hands on her hips. "You're going to obey me, starting from now. I'm your trainer and I don't really care what you think of me as long as you do what I say."
The Squirtle looked startled, losing some of his steam. Then, recovering from his shock, he huffed and crossed his arms in front of his shell.
Ignoring her immature Pokemon, Jae walked deeper into Route One, Squirtle having no choice but to follow his trainer. "By the way, I'm naming you Lisander."

The branches of a nearby tree had recently become the temporary abode of a very territorial young Zigzagoon. Most of his ilk were a little timid, but he always swore up and down that the only way to get ahead was to assert your dominance. Right now, he was scuttling down the boughs of his arboreal apartment, ready to give this young lady a vicious tongue lashing. He would have been content to let her leave in peace, but no, she decided to release one of her pokemon in his neighborhood. That was just unacceptable behavior. It didn't help that he was a little grumpy about being woken up as well. 'Hey lady! Get off my lawn!' He harped in the language of Zigzagoons, pumping a furry, little fist at her. That Squirtle looked pretty irritated. If it broke down to a fight though, the furry pokemon was relatively sure that he could outmatch the tiny turtle. 'Seriously, move it or I'm gonna have to get mean!' He chittered. ::zigzagoon::

Jae knew that it was only a matter of time before they encountered some sort of wild Pokémon. She wasn't expecting much since this was only the first Route, but that didn't mean that she couldn't battle her way over to the next city, earning her annoying Squirtle some experience. She glanced at the water turtle from the corner of her golden eyes, arching an eyebrow when said water turtle kicked a random pebble furiously. So, he was still irritated. That wasn't surprising.
However, this peacefulness (if it could be called that) didn't last much longer. Jae moved her head to the side when her eyes detected some movement in a nearby tree. Lisander had obviously also seen something because he stopped and glared at the tree. Some time later, both were able to distinguish the Pokémon that sat on one of the branches, and did it seem mad. The small Zigzagoon was obviously angry, pumping his fist in the air while he chattered endlessly about something. Jae, being a human, had no idea whatsoever about what the small Pokémon was saying. The noise was making her head hurt, though.
Lisander, on the other hand, could understand the Zigzagoon pretty well. He huffed, glaring at the Zigzagoon. <And what can you do, pest? Battle me? You wouldn't even last a minute!>

'Listen here turtle! You haven't got any right to be in my home, and I'll knock you on that big goofy back if you don't watch your mouth.' Zigzagoon was talking trash now, but he wasn't afraid of the Squirtle. Steadily, he approached the young woman and her pokemon. His face set with grim determination. He quickly formed a battle strategy, growling at the top of his lungs. This Squirtle was a punk, and obviously wanted to get rough. Maybe some big talk would take the force out of his blows. Zigzagoon stood ready for the next incoming attack. He'd let the turtle make the first move, and wear himself out. ::Zigzagoon:: Used Growl; Attack Lowered

What the Zigzagoon said only fueled the Squirtle's rage further, which must have been the Zigzagoon's plan all along. It wouldn't be long before the Squirtle was foaming at the mouth due to his anger. Jae, although oblivious to the whole conversation, knew that Lisander would do something rash if she didn't act soon. She also knew that it was likely that he wouldn't follow her orders, so she had to play with his emotions somehow, seeing as, from the looks of it, he didn't have a big brain.
"Listen to me Lisander." Once she got the Squirtle's attention, she immediately continued to speak. "You want to win this battle, don't you? You want to show him who's the best here."
The water turtle narrowed his eyes, but nodded anyway. He didn't know what his trainer was getting at, but it must be something important. At least he hoped it was important or else he'd be very angry (well, angrier). "Then, listen to me. Don't play his game. Do what I tell you to do and I assure you that we'll win." Her icy eyes stared at the Squirtle and he flinched slightly. Huffing, he nodded and turned to face the Zigzagoon yet again.
"Use Tail Whip and Tackle."
Lisander almost groaned when his trainer told his to use Tail Whip, but he did it anyway. He just wanted to tackle the hell out of the Zigzagoon. Fortunately, after he was done with the Tail Whip, he lashed out at the Zigzagoon, happy to finally make some damage.
Squirtle used Tail Whip {Target's defense lowered} and Tackle.

Squirtle's tail lashed at Zigzagoon, it didn't hurt too bad, but it bought the turtle the time he needed to deliver a solid tackle to the raccoon-like pokemon. It hurt too, but in the kind of way that really pisses someone off. Zigzagoon took a few steps back, building some distance between Lisander and himself, before he turned around and fired his own Tail Whip, Tackle combo. He charged, spinning so that his coarse, bushy tail might strike the Squirtle hard in the face, and he used his moment, continuing into a one hundred and eighty degree turn, hoping to land atop the Squirtle and take him off his feet. ::Zigzagoon:: Tail Whipped: Defense Reduced Tackled: Received Damage Used Tail Whip: Target Defense Reduced Tackle: Minor Damage To Target

Lisander grinned when he managed to Tackle the Zigzagoon, feeling his anger lessen, although he still wanted to defeat that Zigzagoon and make him eat dust. As he was planning his opponent's demise, he didn't notice the Zigzagoon get to his feet and get ready to attack him. The small distraction was enough to catch the water turtle by surprise. He yelped when he suddenly got a mouthful of fur in his mouth due to the Tail Whip. As he was trying to cough the fur out of his mouth, the Zigzagoon had more than enough time to Tackle the Squirtle to the ground, unfortunately managing to get the Squirtle on his back and practically defenseless.
Jae hissed in annoyance only to blink slowly when Lisander got to his feet somehow. There was rage in his eyes and the human girl sighed. The Squirtle's self control was by a thread and she wondered if he would hear her and obey her now. Probably not. 'Troublesome Squirtle... At least he's flexible.' She though, referring to the moment when he had been able to get back to his feet again.
Suddenly Lisander lunged forward, jumping in the air and moving his body so that, by the time he'd reach the Zigzagoon, he'd be able to hit him with his tail. As he landed on the ground, he wasted no time and lunged yet again at the Zigzagoon, in a rather reckless Tackle attack.

Dark Wings
The Zigzagoon was readying himself for Lisander's next attack but he merely started wagging his tail. He couldn't stop staring at it as he moved it. It was so hypnotic that it felt like he could almost fall asleep. It was then that Lisander suddenly rammed into him and knocked him backwards onto the ground. He let out a loud yelp because it much more than the first Tackle did. It was because he let his guard down. ::zigzagoon:: <"I'll get you for that one!"> he shouted. He got up off the ground and used Growl before lunging at his target with all of his might.

The Squirtle stood still, after his attack had been successful. He should put some distance between himself and the Zigzagoon. However, his clumsy body didn't allow for a very quick escape. Plus, it was more than likely that, in his haste to put some distance between himself and his opponent, he'd trip and fall. Squirtles just weren't made for speed. But they were made for endurance.
Lisander readied himself when the Zigzagoon used Growl, sure that his opponent would attack him now. He stood his ground as the Zigzagoon lunged at him, wincing slightly when he stumbled back due to being tackled. He needed every ounce of his almost non-existent balance to stay on his feet. The Squirtle shook his head, feeling a little sore. That Tackle attack had hurt him more than the previous ones. <Heh, you won't defeat me that easily, pest!>
Jae watched the battle from the sidelines, her golden eyes following Lisander's movements. It was a good thing that he had calmed down and had started to think. She didn't need to worry that much about the turtle Pokémon losing his cool and ending up losing the battle too. She knew that Squirtle were usually more resistant than Zigzagoon. She'd have to rely on that to win this battle.
"Tail Whip again and Tackle."
This time Lisander moved his tail from where he was standing, a few feet away from his target. Turning around so that he faced the Zigzagoon, Lisander attempted to tackle the Zigzagoon yet again, confident that he would hit the other Pokémon.

Wild Zigzagoon appeared! [/center] The TinyRaccoon Pokemon suddenly found himself staring at the Squirtle's tail once more, so caught up in looking at it that he let his guard down and suddenly felt the impact of the water-type's Tackle against his furry body. He skidded backwards before regaining his balance and glaring at Lisander angrily. "No more messing around!" he said, more to himself than to anyone else, before running forward in an attempt to Tackle the Squirtle again, despite beginning to get tired. hit by tail whip and tackle. used tackle. weakening slightly.

Lisander couldn't hold the grin off his face when he noticed that the Zigzagoon seemed to be getting tired. At last this fight was beginning to wear down his opponent, but he couldn't dismiss the fact that he was feeling slightly weakened too. However, he was still confident in his abilities to win this one fight.
Jae could also see that both Pokemon seemed to be getting tired, although she felt that the Zigzagoon was getting tired quicker than Lisander. That was good. However, she was not one to be caught off guard and simply eyed the battle, scanning her surroundings for a way to end this battle even more quickly. She soon turned her attention back to the battle though, when she noticed that the Zigzagoon was about to attack the Squirtle yet again. Sick of watching Lisander endure strike after strike, she decided to do something about it.
"He's going to attack. Roll out of the way!"
The Squirtle felt confused. Roll out of the way? What in Arceus' name did his trainer mean by that?
Dispite not understand what his trainer had meant, he had no time to waste as the Zigzagoon turned to attack him. The furry Pokemon didn't attempt to use a Tail Whip or a Growl this time; instead, he went directly to attack. With Jae's orders in mind, he scrambled away from the Zigzagoon, looking almost as if he was running away. Things didn't go very smoothly though, as the Squirtle was kind of clumsy and ended up tripping over a stone and literally rolling out of the way of the Tackle.
It hadn't been exactly what Jae had in mind, and it had turned out way more clumsy than she had expected, but it had worked, somehow.
Lisander shook his head, feeling more than a little dizzy. When he managed to stand, he looked for the Zigzagoon and attempted to Tackle him to the ground. He was almost sure that he was heavier than that pest.

Zigzagoon squeaked in shock at the incoming Tackle, and jumped aside with quavering legs. Glaring bitterly at the intruding Squirtle, he couldn't help but feel he'd underestimated this turtle- and overestimated his own ability to follow up on words. He let out a Growl in an attempt to be intimidating, though really he couldn't quite eliminate that cute edge that labelled him as adorable, much to his frustration. Still, it was actions that spoke loudest, and he rushed for the Squirtle in a Tackle that would hopefully show that intruder that he was anything but cute. ::zigzagoon:: Slightly weakening. (Defence -3) Used Growl and Tackle.

This time, the Zigzagoon also managed to dodge Squirtle's attack. It was obvious that both Pokemon were getting tired. Due to having his target leap out of the way of his Tackle, the Squirtle's eyes widened and he almost fell forward, managing to recover his balance at the last moment. He turned to face the Zigzagoon just as the wild Pokemon let out a Growl that, frankly, didn't sound menacing at all.
Jae would've told Lisander to dodge out of the way when the Zigzagoon lashed out at the Squirtle, but she knew that it was unlikely that the Squirtle could dodge this time. He was just too close to the Zigzagoon and he wasn't fast enough.
As she had expected, the Zigzagoon tackled Lisander, who had turned to the side so that he wouldn't fall on his back if he was knocked off his feet. The water turtle grunted as he fell, feeling comparatively more tired after getting hit by this last Tackle. He was on his feet in an instant though, although Jae had a hunch that his stubbornness had a lot to do with it too.
"Use Tail Whip and Tackle!"
Lisander grinned, turning his back on the Zigzagoon and waving his tail around, almost hypnotically. Then, he turned back to face the Zigzagoon and grinned widely. <I'm not going to let a pest like you beat me!> That said, Lisander headed for the Zigzagoon, attempting to Tackle the Zigzagoon against a nearby tree.

Darn that stupid tail was trying to distract him again! Even as it wagged side to side, the zigzagoon let out another deep growl, this one a lot more angry then the rest. This was so frustrating! It was at that moment that he realised the turtle was charging at him! Well, two can play that game... he thought, charging towards the turtle with a tackle attack of his own, not even trying to evade the water type this time. ::zigzagoon:: Hit by tackle and tackle(unless you dodge :'D) Used Growl and Tackle on Squirtle!

Much to Lisander's and Jae's surprise, this time the Zigzagoon didn't attempt to dodge. Instead, he ran at the Squirtle with a Tackle attack of his own. 'Oh, this is bad.' Jae bit her lower lip. Squirtle would get attacked either way, but he would also suffer, along with the Zigzagoon, extra damage from both attacks. The human girl wondered why in Arceus' name was the Zigzagoon attempting such a reckless attack. Nevertheless, Jae needed to come up with something that would give the Squirtle an advantage. And fast.
Meanwhile, Lisander was startled by the fact that the Zigzagoon was also attempting to attack him, but he didn't slow as he reached for the furry Pokemon, determination (or was it stubbornness?) shinning in his eyes.
Suddenly, Jae screamed at the Squirtle. "Use your shell, Lisander! Tackle him with your shell!"
Jae wasn't actually sure if that would work, but it was better than nothing. A Squirtle's shell was made to protect him and thus, would minimize the damage of an attack. In theory, anyway.
Lisander nodded, suddenly turning his body so that his shell would be the part of his body to tackle the Zigzagoon. Her schemes had worked before, so why not? It's not like Lisander had anything to lose.
Squirtle used Tackle.

That was quite the move, using his shell to ram up against him. Although, it was also a stupid move. A goodly stupid move. Jeez, he was starting to sound like some crazed bat.
So, in the end, the attack that the blue turtle Pokémon used did make contact, and it did hurt a little more than the last one. He had to guess that it was because he was getting weaker, though, and getting weaker was not something he liked to face.
He used tail whip again, hoping to mesmerize the stupid blue turtle Pokémon with his tail. If that worked, he'd back it up with a tackle. Again.

Lisander's eyes widened when he felt the impact of the Tackle on his shell. He wasn't surprised due to the shock of the impact - what surprised him was that he was sent flying due to the sheer strength of the impact. He squealed, every ounce of his dignity flying out of the window. Lucky him, he managed to land in a patch of tall grass and didn't brake anything.
Jae let out the breath she was holding when she saw the Squirtle come out of the bushes unscathed. Kind of, anyway. The water turtle had a limp, most likely due to the fall he suffered. Either way, it looked like the battle was far from over. Both Pokemon were still ready to take each other out. Jae, though, could see them weakening little by little. If she was correct in her assumptions, it wouldn't be long before one of the Pokemon fainted.
Although having being subjected to this Tail Whip attack before (and using it on the Zigzagoon too), the Squirtle couldn't help his eyes from following the Zigzagoon's tail, as if hypnotized. So, when the tail was snatched away from his sight, he was slightly disoriented. Maybe that was also because he was beginning to get tired?
Either way, he was hit by the Tackle and this time, he was unable to keep his footing. He fell back, managing to get up a few seconds later, not wanting to give the Zigzagoon a chance to attack him again. It was his turn!
He used his tail like the Zigzagoon had done to him, hoping to balance things a bit. Already used to this routine, he didn't need Jae to tell him to Tackle the Zigzagoon when he saw an opening.

Lisander found out the hard way that he was far too tired to dodge out of the way as the Zigzagoon hit him yet again with a Tackle. He winced slightly, feeling tired. He wanted to end this fight - and he wanted to win!
Golden eyes narrowed at the sight of a panting Squirtle. It was clear that the battle was exhausting him - not that the Zigzagoon seemed to be feeling any better. What she needed now was for the Squirtle to finish the battle. Seeing as the only damaging move he knew was Tackle, it's not like Jae had much to work with. Nevertheless, she wanted this battle to end. The constant Tail Whip and Tackle strategy was seriously boring her. She knew that her Pokemon needed to get more experience before they acquired new attacks, but that didn't mean that she enjoyed the limited move pool.
"Use Tail Whip and Tackle, Lisander! Knock him out!"
The water turtle already knew he needed to do something before he was the one to faint. It wouldn't be long before that happened. Glaring at the Zigzagoon, he used another Tail Whip in order to increase his chances to knock out the Zigzagoon. Then he smirked, tilting his head to the side. <Let's finish this, pest.>
He lunged at the Zigzagoon, throwing all his weight into the Tackle as he headed for the raccoon Pokemon.
