Nathara stood outside of the Pokemon Center for a moment, and brought out the ball containing the new member of the team. Enlarging the capsule, she sent her ditto onto the sidewalk. She had no idea what to expect, having never taken him out of his pokeball before.
The ditto looked around, his small black eyes scanning the street before settling on her.
<I suppose you're my new trainer.>
The pokemon's voice was impassive, as if it didn't care at all that it was now her teammate.
"Yes...I am. What do you think of the name Dominay?"
<It's as good a name as any. Now, if you're going to be my new trainer, there are a few rules you must follow.>
Dominay paused, and Nathara's mind whirled at the absurd notion of a pokemon setting rules.
<First, I want to be outside of my pokeball at all times. Second, don't ask me to do anything overly dangerous, because I won't do it.>
She chewed her lip for a moment, considering the ditto's "rules". None of them were too demanding, but having this strange pokemon as constant company might get annoying real fast. It was the strongest pokemon on her team, though, so she supposed that the ditto's requirements could be met.
"Alright, your terms are acceptable."
It nodded, then climbed up her leg to rest on her shoulders like a backpack.
I can't refer to him as 'it' forever...let's call him a male.
Before they could even get going down the street, however, a sheep came bounding towards them, yelling that they get out of the way. Behind the mareep, several security guards were running, obviously trying to catch the stray pokemon. There wasn't any time to call out another pokemon.
"Dominay, could you block him please?"
<Yeah, sure.>
The glob slid back down onto the ground and stretched himself out like a barrier. His target would be hard-pressed to find a way around. While he was at it, he took a mental photograph of the mareep.

Mareep let out a bleat of mixed irritation and annoyed caution as he tripped over the Ditto's elasticated form, rolling over and over so that his once clean coat of static wool gathered even more dust and stones, before he finally rolled to a stop, breathing heavily and feeling a little dazed for his journey. Shakily climbing to his feet, he looked at the girl with his legs buckled and his lightning conductor ears bent back in caution. She didn't seem like another security guard. The others had long since fallen behind, leaving only this anarchist of a Mareep, this girl... and this pink blob she had used to trip him up. Mareep let out a growl at the pink blob as blue electricity began to crackle around his ears like a pair of circuits, the sparks crackling and dancing as they were given that faint hint of freedom from the Mareep's electrical container of a body. With a flash of light, the electricity was released from Mareep's form, the thick blue bolt soaring through the air towards the pink Ditto with a hiss as it cut through the air. Mareep used Growl and Thundershock.

Dominay made himself lie flat on the ground, effectively dodging the attack. Once the bolt of electricity had passed, he gathered himself up and transformed into his opponent's form. His new legs felt strange and abnormal, but Dominay was able to stay upright in his new body.
Nathara nodded to herself, and quickly took out her pokedex. She scanned the new mareep, and looked through the list of moves available for use.
"Alright Dominay, send Thundershock right back at him."
The transformed ditto focused the energy that was crackling along his new wool pelt. It was difficult, considering that he had never handled electricity before, but he managed to gather enough energy to shoot out at the other mareep.

Wild n' WoolyMareep Hit by Thundershock (Not very effective.) Uses Growl and Tackle
Seeing the bolt of electricity miss his opponent made the Mareep scowl in annoyance, turning around really quickly to make sure there weren't that many witnesses. If those people were still chasing him, or if they bothered to find him this far out, he was going to have to make a run for it. Appearing trapped and wild, the impatient Mareep stamped his feet on the ground as the Ditto prepared its attack. It was so slow, goodness, why couldn't it hurry up?
He had places to be, places to go, and the situation was only making him nervous. Apparently he had something rather important and shiny snagged in his fur, which started the whole mess. So what if he ran in a few shops, he was looking for some green grass and got lost looking for the florist.
Somehow someone freaked out seeing a wild Mareep going around, and in his mad chase, something valuable was in his fur. It was heavy, and it annoyed him. Grunting, he growled at the Ditto as it Thundershocked him, feeling the electricity sting him as his wool began to grow in size. Ah, now that was more like it. He felt like he was charged, in a way. Sure, it hurt, but he endured it.
Without a sound, the Mareep charged at his copycat with his head tucked down low, prepared to smack into his opponent with his head. If all went well, he could try and run past them in his attempt to escape.

Nathara felt a wave of embarrassment wash over her at the poor move choice. Where had her brain gone? Why did she have Dominay use Thundershock on a mareep? Of course it wouldn't do much damage!
Thoroughly annoyed with herself, she barely had enough time to react when the crazed-looking sheep charged forward, looking like he intended to push past them and continue with his escape.
This isn't your problem, you know. The cops can handle this mareep.
She really would like to help, but there was nothing to gain from engaging in this battle. Dominay wasn't in desperate need of training, and she certainly wasn't going to catch this anarchist pokemon. The cops were capable enough to catch a runaway mareep, certainly.
"Dominay, let it pass."
The transformed ditto shrugged, and hopped out of the way of the charging pokemon.
<I didn't want to fight it anyway.>
As he said this, he transformed back into his normal, blob-like form and crawled back onto her shoulder. He settled down into a comfortable position, and stared blankly into the distance as if a crazy mareep hadn't just run by.
Nathara felt a little guilty about giving up so easily, but she was confident that the situation was under control. As she started walking down the street, the silence between trainer and pokemon stretched on until it became uncomfortable. Finally growing desperate for some more agreeable company, Nathara brought out Razel's pokeball and released him onto the sidewalk.
Dominay wasted no time in taking a mental snapshot of the new arrival, while Razel was still looking at his new surroundings. Apparently unaware that he was being rude, he looked away from the sneasel again, not even bothering to introduce himself.
Razel glared up at the purple glob who was pointedly ignoring him, then turned to Nathara with a smile.
<Hello! Are we getting some more training in before it gets dark?>
"Yeah, that's my plan. I thought that you may want to travel outside your pokeball."
Razel nodded in agreement, then gestured towards Dominay.
<Who is this?>
"This is Dominay, the ditto. He's asked to be kept outside of his pokeball whenever we're traveling or training."
<Oh.>
His voice sounded almost...jealous. She was about to question the sneasel when he turned and started walking down the street, and Nathara followed without a word.

Youngster John { Crackle }
The Mareep hissed in his wild, frenzied state as he ran off with the sound of whistles blaring after him. The cops weren't gonna get him! He was a wild one, alright! However, as he turned the corner, a blockade of officers happened to stop and nab him before any more destruction could be caused. At least now he could be moved to a proper area, with good grass, and less people.
----------------
Despite the snow falling around the place, it wasn't as despressing as it looked.. A young lad laughed as he bounced around in the powdery snow, clad in a T-Shirt and shorts. Why? Well, why not? He sneezed every now and then, and his face was as red as his Krabby should've been. The Krabby made a funny bubbly sound as he laughed, pinching snow in his sharp claws and tossing little clumps at the boy.
"Hahaha, Crackle, that's not how you throw a snow ball. Yer just breakin' it!" The youngster laughed as his legs were only sprinkles with snow. Gathering up a quick snowball as it burned his hands, he attempted to throw it at Crackle, but the water type moved out of the way, and it landed near Razel.
"Ah! My bad!" He laughed sheepishly, hoping that the girl didn't mind too much. Then again, it wasn't that big of a deal. He just wanted to play with his awesome shiny Krabby. Because it was awesome!

Despite the presence of Dominay, the rude and annoying ditto, Razel was in a very good mood. He was always in a good mood when it was snowing, and this snow was coming down hard. He was therefore not at all irritated by the boy's snowball landing just a few inches from his feet.
<It's perfectly fine! I happen to like snow.>
Nathara caught up to the sneasel just in time to hear this cheerful reply, quite glad that her partner was no-longer annoyed. It was then that she noticed the strange coloring of the boy's krabby.
"Oh, is that a shiny pokemon? I've never seen one in person before!"
She knelt down in front of the water pokemon, and smiled gleefully. Nathara had always had always been intrigued by rare and unusual occurrences, and shiny pokemon fit right in that category. Scientists weren't entirely sure what caused the abnormal coloring. It couldn't be caused by genes, because there were objects that could turn pokemon shiny. It didn't happen solely from contact with those objects, however, because occasionally a pokemon would be born with the strange coloring. It was all so mysterious!
"My name's Nathara, by the way."
Dominay lounged on the trainer's shoulder, observing the krabby lazily. He wasn't sure about why Nathara found this pokemon so amazing. He could change himself to look just like that crab. Humans were so strange...
Razel watched Nathara as she admired the crab pokemon, and felt another pang of jealousy. With all of these special pokemon in the world, he felt rather mediocre. There were stronger pokemon in the team than himself, and there was something different about the newest member. Now that Nathara had a full team, was he still her number one pokemon? Was he still important? He stifled a sigh, and looked down at the snow covering the ground. This time, though, not even the winter weather could lighten his spirits.

John chuckled. "Yup, just got him a few days ago. His name is Crackle." John held out his hand to shake the girl's. "Name's John." He said smiling.
Crackle chuckled to himself. Taking some snow in his claws he chucked one at the girl. He then snickered to himself and hid behind John's legs.
The youngster laughed along with his Crabby but hopefully Nathara didn't mind. "Ha, sorry about that, again." He smirked. "Crackle has never been in the snow before." He explained.
Chucked a snowball at you. Ha ha ha ha

Nathara got back to her feet as the boy (whose name, apparently, was John) turned to speak with her. Taking the proffered hand, she shook it warmly.
"It's nice to meet you, John. My name's Nathara, and this is Razel. He was my starter from the lab. This..."
She gestured to Dominay, who was still sitting on her shoulder.
"...is Dominay. I just got him today."
Razel raised his claw in greeting, still put out by his trainer's behavior. Dominay didn't even bother to acknowledge the boy, instead focusing on the people who were walking on the other side of the street. It was then that Nathara saw the shiny crab move out of the corner of her eye, and felt something cold and wet impact with her lower leg. Seeing as her clothing was hardly any warmer than John's, the snow on her bare skin felt icy indeed.
She giggled, despite the slush that was now soaking into her sock, and waved off the boy's apology.
"I'm glad he's having fun. Say, if you're up to it, would you like a quick battle? The gym is closed, and I have a few hours to burn before nightfall. Razel, would you be up to a friendly one-on-one match?"
The sneasel looked up from the snow-covered sidewalk, a little surprised by the question. He didn't know a lot about types, but he was certain that Orbit would be a better choice in this fight. Why did Nathara want him to fight?
Nathara's eyes narrowed in concern when an answer wasn't offered right away. This wasn't like Razel at all. Before now he had always been anxious for a good battle, but this time he was hesitating. Was something wrong?
"Are you okay?"
Razel snapped out of his contemplating to find Nathara kneeling before him, brows furrowed in worry. He gave a small smile in an attempt to reassure the girl, and nodded.
<Yes, of course I'd like a good battle!>
Apparently relieved by the energetic answer, Nathara stood back up to face John. Razel looked around at the snow again, the smile still on his face. Perhaps he had overreacted. Nathara still cared about him, and still wanted his help. On top of that, it was snowing! What self-respecting sneasel could be so moody in this beautiful weather? Settling into a defensive position, he flexed his claws in preparation for the battle. That was, of course, if the boy agreed.

Crackle giggled at the thought of a battle, eyes glimmering with adrenaline addled joy as the shiny Krabby stood to face the Sneasel, shaking the snow off his claws and back as he waited for John to give him his orders. "Harden and Vicegrip!" called John excitedly. He was pumped up. This was one of his first ever battles and he intended to enjoy it and impress this older Trainer. And so did Crackle, a sheen passing momentarily over his body, signalling the successful increase of his endurance, before lunging with claws outstretched and open, trying to clamp down on the Sneasel's midriff. Crackle used Harden and Vicegrip. [/B]

Razel was ready for the attack, and jumped away from the dangerous claws. Landing back on his feet, he prepared to retaliate while Nathara tried to work out a good way to counterattack.
"Alright, Razel, I want you to use Screech. After that, go after him with a Quick Attack."
Once her order was given, the trainer took out her pokedex and scanned the shiny krabby. Were there any weaknesses they could exploit? It's defense and attack were both impressive, but the rest of it's stats were rather mediocre. Too bad Razel didn't have any special attacks, because then they could finish this opponent off in a few rounds.
Razel tensed in anticipation as Nathara called out her commands, and let out a sharp, defense-lowering screech. It was quite a terrible noise, even to his own ears, but it would more than compensate for the crab's Harden. After that, he bent lower to the ground and took off towards his target like an arrow.

Youngster John { Crackle } Level 13 (Defense -1) Hit by Quick Attack Leer + Bubble
"Whoa! Your Sneasel is so cool!" John cried as he was covering his ears from the painful Screech, though it hardly protected him. Crackle couldn't even have that kind of protection, since his claws weren't made for covering up his ears, he was easily hit by the Screech attack. He let out a startled cry as he tried to scuttle away from the Quick Attack, but Razel was much too fast. The Krabby huffed as he was knocked backwards, but with his armor, he was easily able to withstand the blow.
<I'm cool too, ya know.> Crackle argued, though his eyes still had a familiar playful expression on them. He could have fun and still be the tough guy around here. John and Crackle were still relatively new at battles, and overall, this was one of their first trainer battles. He didn't know much about tactics and strategy, but at least John knew what his Krabby was capable of.
"Sorry Crackle, you know we're cool. Anyways, Leer and Bubble!" John grinned, not caring if the Bubble wouldn't be affected by leer. All he knew was that it could potentially lower the Sneasel's speed, while Leer could make Crackle's Vicegrip even stronger. Crackle nodded as he sent out a mean looking Leer at the Sneasel, then sent out a small wave of bubbles at the speedy dark type.

Razel didn't even notice the complement, so focused was he on the battle. He landed a few feet behind the krabby, and spun around to face his opponent again. What met his gaze was a vicious Leer, and he felt his defense lower as the narrowed eyes found his.
The sneasel prepared himself as a stream of bubbles shot at him. The move hardly hurt, only causing a stinging sensation where the bubbles landed, but he was more concerned about the possible side-effects of this move. He knew that it had a chance to lower his speed, which would be awful against an opponent with such a strong move. Allowing a second to pass, he waited for the stiffening of his limbs that would prove his lowered speed, but it didn't come.
Nathara nodded to herself, recognizing their strategy.
They want to bulk up the amount of damage that Vice Grip will do. First, they lower Razel's defense with Leer. Second, they try to slow him down with Bubble. Good thing it only has a 1 in 10 shot of causing a stat drop.
Now that the action was momentarily over, during this lull between turns, she acknowledged John's complement with an eager smile.
"Yes, he's a wonderful pokemon."
Dominay rolled his eyes, and pretended to sleep while this battle continued.
"Razel, let's use Reflect. That should stop Vice Grip from doing any serious damage."
It was a move that they used too infrequently. Reflect was so useful in almost any circumstance, but in this battle it was heaven-sent. It would block out about half of the damage done by physical moves for several turns.
At least, that's what the pokedex said.
In reality, the move had worked quite differently. The first time, the barrier only lasted a turn or two, but it reflected most of the damage done by the first move. The second time, it actually reflected some of the damage back on the opponent, leaving Razel completely unharmed. That one didn't last the listed five turns either. What would happen this time, now that Razel was even stronger?
In the time that it took Nathara to think about all of that, Razel had already put up the barrier, and the blue wall was slowly fading into a clear sheen.

Youngster John Crackle used leer and Vice Grip on Razel. The boy was totally flustered at the sight of that magnificent semi-translucent wall summoned from the Sneasel. The sharp claw Pokémon really amazed John! Even as snow fell the boy was flabbergasted by the move- so much that he didn't realize it was a reflect, and that he didn't communicate with Crackle to change the move plan. He didn't even think of changing the move plan, calling it out calmly. "Crackle, hit him with another Leer, and with Vice Grip!" The little golden crab scuttled forward like a bullet train, launching a venomous leer at Nathara's Razel; and then launching his left claw forward, intent on grabbing the dark & ice type Pokemon's leg, with the claw, putting it in a vicegrip[ooc; Spirit Sorry if you didn't want me using the Youngster image. <3 ] Spirit Edit: You're fine. xD It's the official artwork.

Razel suppressed a shudder at the second Leer, but held his ground as the krabby charged at him with claws open. The dangerous pinchers touched the barrier, and forced their way through. Despite being able to break through the shields, the damage done was halved.
Pulling free his leg from the weakened Vice Grip, Razel jumped backwards to put some distance between them. The Reflect shield was holding, looking a little depleted but still whole.
"Use Screech and Quick attack once more."
The sneasel nodded, took a deep breath, then let out another high-pitched screech. Then he braced himself before taking off at his opponent. This time, however, he aimed at the shoulder of Crackle's right claw.

Razel raised up his arms to protect his face as the bubbles went straight through his barrier. They popped loudly on his fur, and the stinging sensation returned with new force. At least his barrier was still holding strong.
Nathara fidgeted with her bag as the last of the bubbles popped, leaving Razel standing inside of his transparent sphere of protection. Was there anything else she could do to spice up the battle a bit? She didn't want Razel straining himself from using the same move over and over. The only problem was, Scratch wouldn't be as effective on the krabby's hard shell, and he had no other offensive moves besides that and Quick Attack. Oh well, Razel would have to persevere.
"Once more, Razel. Use Leer this time, though."
Her ears were still ringing from the last Screech, so they could switch to a less violent way to lower defense.
Razel nodded, and sent a fierce Leer at his opponent before dashing at it again with Quick Attack.

Youngster John { Crackle } Level 13 (Defense -2) Hit by Quick Attack Uses Leer + Bubble
<Now that's what I call a look.> Crackle exclaimed with surprise as the Leer galumphed right at him, everything happening in slow motion during that long hard stare. It was as if the shiny Krabby could imagine the power of the Leer as a mysterious ghost, making heavy footsteps towards him before colliding into his hard shell. It was as if his armor was weaker somehow, though he couldn't find the right words to explain it.
The Quick Attack remained slightly weak, but with his now lowered defenses, things were looking up for Razel and Nathara. He grunted as he was shoved backwards, letting out an accidental bubble into the air from the blow. John bit his lip as he sensed the change in the battle, knowing that the Reflect wasn't the best thing in the world. They would have to prepare for when it went down, and bubble until then.
"I think we should use Leer and Bubble this time." Oh no! He didn't feel confident at all. Crackle gulped at his trainer's hesitance, but kept going with a positive attitude. He used a Leer of his own, before using another weak swarm of bubbles against the Ice type.

Nathara noticed the lack of confidence in John's words, and felt a swell of excitement. This battle was coming to a close, and if nothing changed, it looked like Razel would be the victor. Of course, this Reflect wasn't going to last forever, and with his lowered defense the sneasel would be dealt massive damage by Vice Grip. It was best to finish this before Reflect wore off.
Razel gave a short growl of frustration as the Leer cut further into his defense, and was enveloped in bubbles soon after. The repeated beating he had suffered from those bubbles left his muscles feeling sore, and his fur was wet. The leg that Crackle had clamped on with his claw protested when he put too much weight on it, and to top it all off, he felt his body stiffen with the telltale signs of a speed drop. Despite all of this, it was his first battle of the day, and he still had that early morning energy flowing through him. Plus, it was snowing! Cold weather always made him feel faster and stronger than normal.
Dominay watched the battle progress, focusing on the attacks themselves. If he was ever given a reason to transform into one of them, he wanted to know the proper way to move.
Nathara bit her lip in concentration. After Razel attacked, they had two more turns of protection. Then the game was up. Crackle's Vice Grip, on top of Razel's lowered defense, would be a terrifying force.
"Leer and Quick Attack!"
Razel leaned forward in preparation, and sent another Leer at the krabby. Then he kicked off of the ground towards the water type.

John winced as his precious Crackle was frozen in place by the Leer, as though it were boring deep into his soul. He was stock still as the Dark Type rushed in for another physical attack. Even had Crackle not been frozen with fear, he would have been unable to avoid the blindingly fast Quick Attack honing in on his position and was thrown back by the sheer power and momentum generated by the rapid assault, gasping for breath. Fists clenched tightly as he watched Crackle. John breathed a sigh of relief as the shiny Krabby got back on his feet. But something was wrong. His beautiful golden armour was scuffed and scratched. He was bleeding from a cut on his side. Crackle was hurt. "Alright Crackle! Vicegrip!" demanded John, forgetting about status moves for the time being as he focussed on doing sheer damage to the Sneasel. His Krabby obeyed, dashing forwards with his right incer open and attempting to clamp down on the Sneasel's side. Weakening. Used Vicegrip.
