The idea of competing against so many different trainers was a foreign one to Cleon. Even though his grandmother had informed him that this was the main goal of trainers -- to be the best involved competing amongst one another -- it was crazy. Still, he was more than willing to give this a shot. Why not rent out a room for a while? Why not see what he and his Pokémon partners were capable of? It would be exciting!
And so, Cleon entered the Trainer Lounge and rented out a battling room. It was empty when he walked in; he hoped it wouldn’t take too long for a challenger to appear. Whoever it may be, a relative beginner like himself was preferable. He wasn’t afraid to lose, but being crushed into the dirt would be slightly embarrassing. His Pokémon -- a Zubat, Poliwag, Taillow, and Exeggcute -- would manage to put up a fight. He’d help them. They’d all become strong enough to keep moving forward in the world, keep exploring onwards!

Quinn had only received Helix, her Starter Pokemon, a couple days ago, but she was already determined to get maximise him to his full potential. In a stripy dress, denim jacket and heels, Quinn had taken full advantage of the fact that she wasn't on the road, kitting herself out in fashionable clothes to stride around in. Sauntering into the Trainer Lounge, she surveyed the different doors to different battling rooms. "Why don't you choose, Helix?" The Shuppet didn't need telling twice; after floating in hazy spirals around a few doors, he settled on one, hovering next to it patiently. Quinn joined him, heels clacking against the floor. Fiddling with her complicated french plait, she pushed open the door. Inside was a dark-haired, dark-eyed boy. First impression? He was... normal? She'd been expecting zany characters on this journey... but hey, normal was good. She liked normal. "Hey." She greeted, bubbling with positivity. "Want to battle?" After all, this was a battling room.

Compared to the fashionable Quinn, Cleon looked rather like a construction worker in his torn and dirty jeans and t-shirt; even his hair looked quite the mess at the moment despite his being in civilization. The teen did not really consider his appearance at the moment, however, and so long as he was otherwise hygienically pleasing, all was well in the world. Seeing the girl walk into the room, Cleon was incredibly pleased. His first trainer battle here in the lounge was about to begin!
"I'd love to," the thin teenager responded, sweeping a small bow as he took a Pokeball off of his belt. "The name's Cleon, by the way," he continued with a smile. Pleasantries were a necessity in his book. "And this is Prometheus." In a flash of red light, a Zubat began fluttering about in the room, squeaking happily as he darted about. Cleon continued smiling, waiting for her to make the first move. Ladies first, and all that.

Quinn, once again, played with her braid as she watched the handsome Zubat flap. It was quite a respectable Pokemon... it made her nervous. "Quinn." She smiled, before glancing at Helix; he was her only Pokemon, so he whizzed in a helix shape around her before hovering a few feet in front of her. "And this is Helix." She chucked slightly to herself at Cleon's little bow, before switching to battle mode, her feet apart and her back up, surveying the battle space in between the two trainers. Taking the opportunity, she seized the first move. "Screech and Shadow Sneak!" The piercing wail seemed to come out of nowhere, least of all the Shuppet; once again, because of Helix's lowly level, it wasn't quite enough to make her ears explode, but it did make it throb painfully. Helix then proceeded to extend his shadow before whizzing around, intending to attack Prometheus from behind.

Quinn's rapid change from pleasant introductory girl to battle mode was enough to set Cleon on edge. He had no way of knowing that his companion was an even newer trainer than himself; he was prepared to lose, but ready to put up a hell of a good fight before that happened. There was no time to call out a warning instruction to his Pokémon before the terrible screech filled the room, reverberating against the walls.
Prometheus squeaked loudly, his ears throbbing; it was a good first move, perfect to distract and harm the Pokémon which relied so dearly on its hearing. "Theus, he's coming up behind you!" Cleon called out, though the Zubat was not able to react in time to avoid the hit; the blue bat spun around just as Helix struck. Falling backwards, Prometheus struggled to regain whatever composure he ever had as Cleon gave his battle commands. "Shake it off, don't worry. You'll get it back. Leech life!"
Squeaking again, this time much more restrained, in assent, Prometheus darted forward, fangs bared and ready to sink into the Shuppet's misty body.

The first attack was successful; this gave Quinn and Helix a confidence boost; Quinn's stance shifted slightly to become more relaxed, while Helix looked slightly less nervous. The happiness was short-lived though; as soon as Cleon shouted out his attack, Quinn and her Shuppet snapped back to attention. The Zubat had whirled around and intended to bite into Helix's semi-transparent body. "Get out of the way!" Quinn shouted into the battle space, and Helix tried to comply; but alas, he tried hard to dodge the attack, but nevertheless, the Zubat caught him and sunk his fangs into Helix's body. There was a haunting wail as the attack struck; the Shuppet whirled and revolved in the air, spinning away from it's opponent, still hurt. "It's okay, Helix, it's okay!" Quinn called out to her Starter with gritted teeth, knowing the Leech Life would affect her Pokemon later on in the battle. "Shadow Sneak again!" It was the Shuppet's only proper offensive move, apart from Knock Off, which was useless in this case. So Helix twisted himself upright in the air and then made to attack the Zubat from behind again, extending his shadow first.

"Prometheus, watch out! Counter with a Headbutt!" The warning cry was not necessary the second time around, as the Zubat was not about to fall for the same attack with the same strategy twice in a row. With quick, jarring movements, Prometheus spun around, attempting to meet the Shadow Sneak with an attack of his own.
Just as the two Pokemon were about to possibly collide, the lights sputtered and died. Cleon looked around; there was absolutely no source of light. However, Zubat was a nocturnal Pokemon, and he assumed the Shuppet could see in the dark. Should they continue? "What do you think, Quinn? Up for a fight in the dark? Seems appropriate, given our Pokemon," he called out through the gloom.

Quinn was tense as the Zubat whirled around, intending to produce a counter attack. The two Pokemon were about to collide; Quinn clenched her fist in anticipation, and that's when the lights went out. Something happened, but she wasn't quite sure what. She heard something wail; it was one of the Pokemon, but which? She had a feeling it was Helix; he wasn't used to such aggressive fights yet. Feeling disoriented in the heavy darkness, she heard Cleon's voice shout through the emptiness. "Of course we'll continue. I'm not backing down yet!" She replied sweetly, her voice chiming through the room. Both Pokemon were perfectly capable of seeing in the dark; the trainers would have no clue, but they may as well try to battle. "Whatever happened, Helix, don't worry. If you got hurt, pick yourself up, you can continue! Hit that Zubat with a Shadow Sneak!" All Quinn could see was pitch black darkness; she didn't know what the Shuppet was doing, and since the chosen attack was a quiet one, she had no idea where he was or if he was doing the move. She just stared at a blank spot, hoping to hear some sort of collision noise.

Grinning into the darkness, Cleon was quite pleased with Quinn's response. Good. He was enjoying this fight; it was a lot more exciting, in the darkness. What was going on? He couldn't tell. In reality, this was probably a dangerous move; what if something bad happened that he couldn't see or react to? He'd have to trust in Prometheus to tell him if something went wrong. If the bat could put a proper sentence together, at least. The hyperactive bat was not one for properly wording thoughts into complete sentences.
Zubat was completely oblivious regarding the absence of light. He had no eyes. Firing his little squeaks just as often as normal during a battle, he was able to 'see' the Shuppet prepare for another attack, though was unable to flit away in time to dodge the attack. With a loud squeak to alert his trainer, he darted away.
"Theus, supersonic!" Cleon's voice reached the Zubat, who responded in a heartbeat by firing increasingly rapid sound waves in the direction of Helix, intending to confuse his opponent.
::zubat:: Prometheus used supersonic.

Quinn heard a satisfactory thump in the darkness. Helix must have hit the Zubat with the Shadow Sneak, because a split second later a squeak rang through the room, quite obviously from the Zubat as Helix wasn't the type to squeak. Cleon's voice cut through the blackness, ordering the Zubat to use Supersonic. How could her Shuppet possibly dodge that? "Do whatever you can to get out of it, Helix, then counter attack with Shadow Sneak!" Quinn called, grinding a heel into the ground with agitation. The darkness was really getting to her, now; she couldn't even make out her bright yellow hair, as it was now just a faded shape. She hated not being able to see the battle, calculate distances and angles between the Pokemon, test out strategies in her head, watch how the Shuppet was attacking and how she could refine his techniques. She hated being lost, and having to be totally dependent on Helix - of course, she trusted him with everything she had. But with her history, she had always been independent, never used to sharing responsibility or letting it all off her back. Maybe this was a good thing for her? She couldn't hear the Supersonic attack, but her eardrums throbbed painfully; she was sure the Shuppet had tried his best to get out of the attack, but it hadn't worked. He gave short wails as he endured his own ear-related pain, and the blonde couldn't bear it; it stopped, before she heard a thump, and another wail from the Shuppet; he had attacked himself! Oh damn, he'd gotten Confused!
Helix has become Confused! Helix attacked himself with Shadow Sneak! ::shuppet::

Gradually, Cleon was able to start making out vague shapes in the darkness, moving around through the air. Across the battlefield was an even more indistinct form. Quinn. Or his imagination. Indeed, not being able to properly see the battle was growing on his nerves. Adrenaline, however, had taken control, and Cleon was not willing to give up the high it provided. This battle was his and Prometheus's. His starter was a bat. They ruled the darkness. But not in the figurative sense of the word, only literally.
Forcing himself to stay focused was not difficult; Cleon was completely sucked into the battle, listening carefully to each beat of Prometheus's wings, each sound that came from the Pokemons' mouths. A wail. Not his Zubat's. Good. He was confused.
"Zen Headbutt, try and keep him spinning!" Cleon called out. Flapping his wings as hard as he could, Prometheus shot out towards Helix, aiming for the back of the creature's large, broad head. All the while he was squeaking, softly for his usual level of jabber, <Spinning spinning spinning keep 'im spinning spinning.>
::zubat:: Prometheus used Zen Headbutt.

Helix was utterly confused. He was literally just spinning in the air, seeming almost careless, completely overwhelmed by the Confusion. "Come on, Helix." Quinn tried to make her voice calm and soothing, keeping it on one pitch to avoid any cracking or bursts of frustration. "You can do this. Get out of the Confusion, you can... counter with a Shadow Sneak!" The only reply she got was a small, withering mumble from the Shuppet; he was still utterly Confused, beyond any point of redemption. As he hovered in the air, the Zubat, using a Zen Headbutt, hit him straight in the head, knocking the Shuppet clean out of the air. He didn't even have the energy to wail or moan - all Quinn heard was a thump on the ground. Then... silence. Apart from the flap of the Zubat's wings. Quinn couldn't keep in a small gasp; poor Helix. He was only a low level right now, anyways; he'd barely gained any during their short timespan so far. "Helix?" Silence. "... Helix?" Nothing. The darkness swallowed up her voice quickly, but she was pretty sure her Shuppet had fainted. "Okay, okay, you win!" Quinn said half-bitterly towards Cleon, stepping around blindly in the darkness, heading where she thought she'd heard the thump. Her arms outstretched, squinting helplessly in the dark, she stumbled and stepped tentatively towards her fainted bundle, not wanting to step on him accidentally.
::shuppet::
HELIX has fainted! PROMETHEUS has won the battle!

Zubat began squeaking triumphantly the moment he knew his opponent was down. <Win win win win win win~!> The creature had absolutely no sense of dignity nor restraint. He was merely pleased to have been victorious, not particularly caring for the losing trainer. Prometheus proved himself to his trainer. That's what mattered in his batty little mind.
Cleon couldn't help but grin when Quinn admitted defeat, though he certainly felt pity for the girl. "Theus, help her find her Shuppet, would you?"
Pleased to be able to do even more, the Zubat flapped down to where Helix had landed. <Here here here here.> The word was repeated until Quinn found them.
Also moving towards the irritating cry of his Zubat, Cleon held out his hand, but realized that in the darkness she could not see it. He let it fall back to his side, then on a second thought slung his backpack down from his shoulder and dug out what he assumed was a potion. "Good fight under bad circumstances," he said, trying to sooth the girl's loss. "You need a potion? I think this is one. Maybe." Holding the potential potion up to his face, he squinted as though that would help his diagnosis.
ooc|| Yup, that's correct! Now Helix'll be even more likely to kick that Wingull's butt. <3 Whenever Quinn needs a battle, feel free to bother Cleon. ^^ [/size]

Quinn gratefully accepted Cleon's help; any embarassment was washed away as she followed the sound of the bat, until her foot gently nudged her unconscious Shuppet. Falling to her knees, she loosely held the Shuppet in her arms, unable to see any damage in the dark. She gently rocked her Pokémon side to side, trying to rouse him, before hearing Cleon making some noise nearby. "Um... Thank you." She mumbled politely, taking the Potion from her opponent and trickling it, drop by drop, into the Shuppet's mouth. When it was empty, and she felt Helix fidget, she stood up, waiting for him to gather enough energy from the Potion to soar out of her arms. "It was a good battle. Congratulations, you deserved it." She smiled, before remembering that he couldn't see it. Clumsily, she reached out an arm for him to shake her hand, hitting him somewhere accidentally. Where? She had no clue. But she blushed anyway, kicking herself internally for being so socially awkward. Helix had regained full strength; she felt a gust of air as he shot up towards the ceiling, and assumed he was whizzing around in all sorts of shapes.
{{ooc. Thank you, you're very sweet :3 }}

"No problem," Cleon said. He, too, blushed when her hand flopped awkwardly against his chest; clearly he wasn't the only one attempting to be polite. He decided not to mention the mishap, and couldn't help but be grateful that his own hand hit only dark emptiness. "Here, I'll have Prometheus lead the way out of here. Theus? Take me to the door, would you?"
With an affirmative squeak, the bat fluttered off and began flying in a line, back and forth, between Cleon and the doorway, squeaking as he went in his bothersome way. Smiling in an apologetic manner, Cleon said, "Sorry about him. When I first got him I thought he was just overexcited. He hasn't shut up since then."
Had he not held out his arms to feel for the wall, Cleon would have run right into it. Luckily, though, he stopped himself in time. He felt for the handle, turned it. The room outside was slightly brighter; light flowed in from the windows. To his surprise, there were still some trainers lurking about, wanting battles. Granted, he felt the same way. The assistant at the desk was looking annoyed, constantly having to tell everyone that the healing system was down, and that they were working on the problem the best they could.
Turning around, Cleon held out his hand yet again for Quinn. "I imagine I'll see you around, huh? Once you've trained Helix up a bit I'd love to battle again."

Val was not used to Verona, at least this Verona, his life was in the Ghettos and he happily would of gone there, but if he was caught by the manager of his building his rent might double. Val had said he was not going to be around for some time.
So he lingered in the nicer part of Verona. His amber eyes scanned the street, even though the power outage had hit, the shops still were full of shopping people. How amusing.
He could feel some people staring at him because he didn't even hide that he had ears and tail. His ears flicked up and down around his black gelled up hair. He ignored the whispers.
Val stopped at a small board plastered with papers. Flyers. He looked over then. Sales. Sales. Sales. Raffle. He looked over the raffle sheet again, slowly pulling it off the wall and reading what it said;
RAFFLE! ENTER TODAY! You wanna win a great prize? Entering is easy! Just battle! Fill in the flyer below and give some proof of a battle. Then BAM your entered!
Easy enough. He folded the paper and shoved it in his pocket, then headed on his way.
Val kept walking until he saw a building called, 'Trainer Louge'. Slowly he pushed the door open, letting the light shine in. "Im looking for someone to battle," He said, holding the door open to keep the light in the building.

After bidding farewell to Quinn, Cleon was distracted by the declaration of this newcomer. Well, he wanted a battle? He came to the right place. If he wanted to battle in the dark, that is. Cleon nodded to the fellow -- a strange lad he was, quite furry and was wearing animal ears and a tail -- but said, “I’m afraid it’s a bit dark in there to--”
“Open the window,” the receptionist responded dully, speaking before Cleon could finish his retort.
Ah. Windows. Right. Those existed. Grinning sheepishly at Val, Cleon extended a hand. “Cleon. I’m up for another match, ‘s soon as I can find the window back there,” he said, gesturing to the room he had just left. Knowing, now, that this individual was going to be his opponent, he looked a bit closer. The ears, he noted, were not fake as he had first assumed, but attached to his head. Having little to do with Pokemorphs, it would not be a lie to say that Cleon was surprised. Still, the one he had met before was kind enough; he was not going to judge.

"Cleon. I’m up for another match, ‘s soon as I can find the window back there"
Val took Cleon's hand and gave it it firm shake. "Alright," he glanced to the room, leaning on the still open door. When he noticed Cleon looking at his ears, they moved down like a reflex only to lift up a second later. "Shall we go get a window open?" Val moved to let the door slowly close, "I would like to get this rolling."
He blinked as his eyes adjusted to the dark, well being a Pokemorph made it easier to see in the dark it really did not help that much. His eyes moved to Cleon to see if he would lead the way or if he would have to.

A nice, firm handshake. Cleon, having been raised in a relatively old fashioned town, found this to be a good sign, instantly disregarding any further negativity inspired by Val being a Pokemorph. ”Of course, one second.” Feeling along his belt for the first Pokeball in line, he released his Zubat. Curious as to why he was out again so soon, the small bat began fluttering about ecstatically. ”Hush. Just lead me to the window, would you?” he requested. Prometheus did as he was bid, beeping and flapping as loud as he could so his trainer could follow him. After a momentary struggle, the window was open and light was pouring into the room; the angle was almost perfect for filling the room with a nice glow.
Returning Prometheus to his Pokeball, Cleon took his place at one end of the field. The Zubat was still tired -- supposedly, though his frantic fluttering seemed to indicate that he was in perfect condition -- from his earlier match. He’d have to rely on others for this. ”How does a double-battle sound to you?” Cleon asked, selecting one sphere in each hand. Released were a Taillow and Exeggcute.
